Angels bleed from the tainted touch of my caress

Revery and especially Sajeek have only the blanket of darkness hiding them, but the ones they hide from do not travel with light sources, and pierce the black with their innate infravision.

One of the gnolls sees all, another sees Gwendalyn, but not Bast, and the last only sees the enchanter and beastlord.

Spot: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23
Spot: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13
Spot: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18

Your only warning of the approaching attack is the whistle of the javelin cutting the air a split second before it finds its mark in your supple flesh.

Gnoll 1 (Revery): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17
Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6

Gnoll 2 (Sajeek) 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (12) + 9 = 21
Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8

Gnoll 3 (Gwendalyn with +4 to AC for half cover): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24
Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5

Sajeek feels his system instantly react to a foreign substance entering his bloodstream (please include a DC 18 fort save vs. poison in your next post).

Poison Damage (if unsuccessful): 2d6 ⇒ (3, 4) = 7

Dragging steel across the flint will take time (full round action to light). Revery can just draw back his cloak to provide light.

As the lights come on you find yourself squaring off against creatures that resemble a cross between humans and canines. They stand somewhat taller than a human, nearly 7 feet in height, with a dark-furred body, large wolf-like ears, and feral eyes. Those with sharper eyes will notice that each has had their ears torn, leaving them ragged, which only adds to their wild appearance.

You have no clue which of the creatures attacked you in the dark.

Revery is the furthest away, having sought to backtrack into the previous chamber, before a spear had caught him in the back, placing himself 25' from the pit, and 35' from his foes.

Bast and Sajeek are 10' closer than the enchanter.

Gwendalyn is the closest, standing 7' from the pit, and 17' from the closest gnoll.

This 10' wide pit is the one that you heard the water droplets fall into. They fell a long, long way onto rocks.

Angels bleed from the tainted touch of my caress

Nogglegrop looks torn. He had a solemn duty to ensure that Kwen got safely out of the tight passage, but his friends were being attacked behind him. Also, clinging to the stones 6.5' above the sodden chamber floor was not a comfortable perch for gnomes.

He hisses again, "By Brells great sodden balls Kwen, hurry, a battle has commenced behind us!"

Kwen is the recipient of Justis' one possession, and it is a prized possession at that. The love-struck elf reaches under her threadbare blanket, and draws out a 6" diameter crystalline orb. This is the skinned remains of a slain willowisp. The corpse of the fey creature continues to give off a clear white light that illuminates its surroundings out to a 30' radius. The rogue can feel the weight of the thing as it is handed to him (1 pound). Willowisps are notoriously difficult to kill, and only a very few of them provide such a light stone, which makes this a valuable commodity, especially to the night blind (approximately 80-100 gp to purchase).

Revery (Erudite Enchanter) in somnis veritas // Kspress (Iksar Monk) Your pain is the breaking of your shell.

Revery uncovers the lantern he holds, spilling light out to the rest of the room.

Vah Shir Beastlord and Bast Kejek Tiger

Sajeek had been holding in a string of howling curses when he managed to step on his tail. If he was lucky, nobody else caught that one. The vah shir's surprise had been almost total, alerted to the javelin perhaps a fraction of a thought process before it hit.

Not about to fight with a javelin stuck in him, Sajeek tugs the thrown weapon out of where it had pierced his armor. And his hide. Gritting his teeth, he snarls, something about the wound didn't feel right. More so then a puncture wound.

ooc:
Fortitude Save (DC:18):1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15

Wet hot pain begins to radiate out from his newest wound. The javelin had certainly been poisoned. And his body had most diffinitly not fought off the nasty poison that seeps into his veins.

"Shitfire," the vah shir curses, looking at the dog men. On of those dog bastards had just poisoned him. Emerald eyes burning in anger, Sajeek targets the closest gnoll and throws the javelin as hard as he can. At least they had flesh and blood. And could feel pain.

After launches the gnoll's javelin, Sajeek shifts to a more (hopefully) defensible position and draws one his own javelins. Knowing Bast would be eager to jump into the fray, he tells the warder to stay hidden.

ooc:
Attack and damage:1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 111d6 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5. Going Partial Defense (+2 AC), and drawing a javelin.
HP: 35/50
Mana: 3/8
AC: 17
Second Fort save for secondary poison effect:1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21

Angels bleed from the tainted touch of my caress

Revery adds light to the scene (free action).

Insidious poison flows through Sajeek's system, seeking to still his heart (please include a second DC 18 fort save vs. poison in your next post).

Poison Damage (if unsuccessful, takes effect in 10 rounds): 4d6 ⇒ (6, 2, 4, 1) = 13

Distracted by the pain coursing through his veins Sajeek's throw runs well wide of the mark.

Revery (Erudite Enchanter) in somnis veritas // Kspress (Iksar Monk) Your pain is the breaking of your shell.

Revery feels the sting of a javelin he had heard and not seen coming. A heroic dodge was attempted but too late, and not nearly heroic enough, it seems. His neck stings from a good slash.

Once the lantern's light is again liberated, Revery sees three gnolls across the chasm from the group. He takes a few steps forward, and then practically throws a quickened Shallow Breath spell at the closest gnoll. This is followed by an Eye of Confusion spell at the second closest or middle one.

Revery's spells:

Quickened Shallow Breath, free action, 35' range, (4 mana)
Damage: 1d4 ⇒ 3 and -2 to DEX and STR for 8 rounds
Save: Fort 20 for half damage and no ability loss.

Eye of Confusion, 150' range, (4 mana)
Victim is blinded for 1d4 ⇒ 2 rounds and is liable to fall into chasms if not careful.
Save: Will negates, DC 22.

Mana: 54/90

Barbarian Shaman (Luminary Gwendalyn Shaughnessy the Giant Slayer)

Gritting her teeth against the pain, Gwendalyn notices that one of the gnolls is gasping for breath in a familiar way. Staying behind her insufficient shield, she peeks out just enough to chant a rift into brief existence; just for a moment, the gasping gnoll is struck by by the concentrated essence of the freezing winds of her homeland. Looking around at the others, she can see that Sajeek isn't looking so good, so she tosses a swift healing spell at him.

male Half Elf Rogue /Markus Vardin Human cleric (Giant Slayer Blackguard Kwenilithmor Eridosan)

" Go Noggy, there is a Elven child, she is a prisoner, I'll catch up in a moment." Kwen nods at the girls gift to him, the Rogue passes over a dagger, hilt first to her and whispers in Elven " I'll find you, keep that hope, this is all I can give you at the moment use it only if you must. I have to assist my friends, or else this could be even trickier then even I am able to admit. Be strong Justis, and have faith." The rogue says, squeezing her fingers lightly.
looking around briefly with the new light source he hopes to spy a new way into the room as he struggles to turn himself around.

diplomacy 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (19) + 8 = 27

Angels bleed from the tainted touch of my caress

Nogglegrop nods and slides down into the muck. He starts the slow process of wading through the murky waters, avoiding the floating and bloated corpses to the best of his ability.

Justis takes the dagger and hides it where she just retrieved the light stone. She holds on with panicked strength, and then lets go. The girl is shaking out of fear.

Kwen sees what he had with his infravision. There is a privies hole into the room only big enough for a loaf of bread, and the tunnel he is in continues along a space much smaller than that. The space has opened up a bit, so turning around is simple.

Sajeek feels better, as much of the sting from the attack is dulled by shamanistic magics.

Revery's initial attack is easily rebuffed (critical success), but there is still a bit of discomfort (1 damage). His second spell is much more successful, causing the gnoll to clutch at its eyes (50% miss chance, half speed, no DEX bonus to AC, -4 to STR and DEX checks, flankers gain +2 to strike, duration unknown).

Fort Save vs. Shallow Breath: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (20) + 11 = 31
Will Save vs. Eye of Confusion: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20

Gwendalyn's magical attack lands fully, causing maximum damage.

Reflex Save vs. Frost Rift: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16

Revery and Gwendalyn make themselves targets, and the the gnolls do not hesitate when they throw their spears.

Gnoll 1 (Revery): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24 (blinded)
Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
Concealment: 1d100 ⇒ 86 (success)

Gnoll 2 (Gwendalyn) 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (12) + 9 = 21 (12 damage)
Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8

Gnoll 3 (Revery): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11 (1 damage)
Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4

These gnolls appear to carry 5 javelins each.

(start of new round)

male Half Elf Rogue /Markus Vardin Human cleric (Giant Slayer Blackguard Kwenilithmor Eridosan)

Kwen starts to crawl forward, keeping as calm as he can, knowing that the group is in even more danger. His thoughts are racing, trying to puzzle out a way he can get to Justis and also, what he will be doing to the group of creatures that are attacking his friends. Moving as quickly as the space around him is allowing he pushes himself forward.

Angels bleed from the tainted touch of my caress

Kwen will be able to rejoin his friends quickly (4 rounds if he moves with caution, 2 rounds if he does so throwing caution to the wind: 2D6 damage + 1D4 nonlethal in the process).

male Half Elf Rogue /Markus Vardin Human cleric (Giant Slayer Blackguard Kwenilithmor Eridosan)

Kwen mutters curses at the rocks that scrap his hands and arms, not wanting to be hasty, but having no choice the others need him. Biting off an oath when he head butts a rock that he had overlooked, in his haste to reach the others.

moving quickly, taking the 2d6 points of damage and the 1d4 non lethal

Angels bleed from the tainted touch of my caress

Almost immediately Kwen catches a sharp rock across his forehead, flooding his eyes with blood and making him feel a bit woozy.

Jutting stones bruise knees, elbows, feet, and hands.

Lethal Damage (Kwen): 2d6 ⇒ (3, 4) = 7
Nonlethal Damage (Kwen): 1d4 ⇒ 1

In no time the rogue actually overtakes Nogglegrop (this round will be spent in full movement, as will next round. May act normally in the following round).

Revery (Erudite Enchanter) in somnis veritas // Kspress (Iksar Monk) Your pain is the breaking of your shell.

Revery swears at the pain. Two more javelins had hit him, one in his foot and one glancing off his stomach, no doubt leaving a long red gash.

He casts another two spells. First, on the most injured one, he casts another quickened Shallow Breath. Then, on the one who resisted his Shallow Breath last time, he casts Eye of Confusion.

Once cast, he says, "move around!" and moves to another location 15' from his current.

Sneak: 1d20 ⇒ 9

Revery's spells:

Quickened Shallow Breath, free action, no AOO (4 mana)
Damage: 1d4 ⇒ 2 and -2 to DEX and STR for 8 rounds
Save: Fort 20 for half damage and no ability loss.

Eye of Confusion (4 mana)
Blinds for 1d4 ⇒ 3 rounds.
Save: Will 22

Mana: 46/90, hp: 20/35

Barbarian Shaman (Luminary Gwendalyn Shaughnessy the Giant Slayer)

Gwendalyn cries out involuntarily when struck by the well-thrown javelin. I need armor like Noggy's. And a shield. Pulling it out of her flesh, she murmurs to Sajeek, "If you want Bast to jump over, just say the word and I'll make him stronger." Peering around the stalagmite, she launches another freezing attack against the same gnoll as before. She notes with a sinking feeling that her mana reserves are getting very low, though still ready to buff the patient tiger with Fleeting Fury if asked.

Ooc:

Reflex DC 17 for half

10/50 mana, 32/45 hp

Angels bleed from the tainted touch of my caress

Nogglegrop pumps his little legs, watching the bleeding half-elf sprint past him, eating up ground with rabid desperation.

Revery's shield and sword launch forward and stop at the edge of the pit. They track the movements of the closest gnoll, but cannot cross over such an expanse.

It is a carbon copy of just moments prior, with the group casting the same spells once again. This time Revery's magics do nothing, but Gwendalyn is just as effective as she was previously.

Fort Save vs. Shallow Breath: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (14) + 11 = 25 (blinded)
Will Save vs. Eye of Confusion: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22 (24 damage)
Reflex Save vs. Frost Rift: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13 (2 damage)

It is a wonder what Revery has in mind as he skulks in plain sight of 3 foes. They are aware of his presence, so he only look ridiculous trying to be stealthy.

These are intelligent foes, and one of the gnolls has shifted his position to get a straight shot at Gwendalyn behind her cover. Should she move around, to deny him the shot, she will open herself up to fire from the other two gnolls.

Barbarian Shaman (Luminary Gwendalyn Shaughnessy the Giant Slayer)

Looking directly at the gnoll that has found a clear angle to throw at her, Gwendalyn places her thumbs in her ears, crosses her eyes, waggles her fingers, and blows a raspberry at it. Though she doesn't speak its language, the young woman is fairly certain that she has accurately communicated her feelings for the hyena-like humanoid.

Vah Shir Beastlord and Bast Kejek Tiger

"Rev, do you have any magics that could grab a plank and drop i?," Sajeek asks in the hissing tongue of the iksar. "So we could bring the fight to these dog-faced bastards!"

Not too mention that Rev's sword and shield could get over, as well as Bast. Sajeek was pretty certain that Bast could make the jump. He would rather be absolutely certain before pushing Bast to attack.

Taking a deep breath, the Beastlord looks at the gnoll he had thrown the first javelin at. The flood of warm healing took the distracting sting out his wounds, letting him get a good bead on the gnoll.

ooc:
Attack and damage:1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 231d6 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5.
Drawing a second javelin and going on the partial defense (+2ac).

Hp: 46/53 (+3 hp from Fleeting fury, added the hp, forgot completely about the active spell)
Mana: 3/8
Bast: Hidden, plus total defense

Angels bleed from the tainted touch of my caress

Sajeek's throw is accurate, and blasts through the defences of the blinded opponent.

Despite seeing nothing other than stars, the gnoll that has squared off against Revery remains perfectly accurate, as does the one that has positioned himself against Gwendalyn (move action has negated the shaman's positional AC advantage).

They gnoll has no clue what Gwendalyn is doing, but gets the gist. It licks its lips malevolently. Its meaning is clear: these are cannibals and will eat the fallen.

Gnoll 1 (Revery): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21 (blinded, 5 damage)
Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Concealment: 1d100 ⇒ 96

Gnoll 2 (Gwendalyn) 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (17) + 9 = 26 (12 damage)
Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6

The last of the slightly damage gnolls (received 2 damage) returns fire to Revery using his own methods against him.

(Revery: please include a DC 16 Fort save in your next post)

The blinded gnoll blinks a few times and then fixes its gaze directly on the enchanter (blinded condition has lapsed), but looks ready to make the beastlord pay for his indolence.

(end of round)
(start of new round)

Vah Shir Beastlord and Bast Kejek Tiger

Flinging out a curse, Sajeek readies his next javelin. He had one left before he would need to start picking up fallen javelins. Glaring at the gnoll that still stood, the vah shir's emerald eyes narrow. He gets ready to add a second javelin to the first that had hit.

Sajeek eyes the chasm briefly. The vah shir's stomach flip-flops. Before the battle had started, he had listened to the water droplets fall. It sounded much to far to fall.

However, the Beastlord was rapidly running out of further options. The only spell he did know that would be battle worthy. But, the effects didn't last long, and he would rather be ready to actually attack when the Flash of Light went off.

ooc:
Attack and Damage:1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 251d4 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5.
Partial defense, drawing last javelin. Bast stays hidden, full defense, eyeing a pebble, waiting for the word to attack. Not so much jump, he'll wait on Sajeek for that one.

Revery (Erudite Enchanter) in somnis veritas // Kspress (Iksar Monk) Your pain is the breaking of your shell.

Revery puts down the light, turns and runs out of the room, until he can no longer see the gnolls.

Fort save: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10

(mana: 46/90, hp: 14/35)

Angels bleed from the tainted touch of my caress

Revery clutches his useless eyes as he is blinded (flash of light, failed fort save), making it difficult to navigate the run out of the room, since disorientation will lead to a death at the bottom of a very steep pit.

Barbarian Shaman (Luminary Gwendalyn Shaughnessy the Giant Slayer)

Gwendalyn suddenly notices that Brontide is much worse injured than she'd realized -- and then he clutches his eyes. She heals him a little, and then flings another Frost Rift at the same one that she'd already frozen twice. She realizes that they're going about it all wrong, since she isn't throwing javelins. "Sajeek! Take my place!" She moves over in front of Revery, and then lies down on the cavern floor. "Revery! Turn invisible and get down!"

Revery (Erudite Enchanter) in somnis veritas // Kspress (Iksar Monk) Your pain is the breaking of your shell.

"I'd rather not be here!" says Revery. He moves half-speed in a direction away from the fighting, towards where he knows the path they came in is.

(Mana: 46/90, hp: 21/35; blinded)

male Half Elf Rogue /Markus Vardin Human cleric (Giant Slayer Blackguard Kwenilithmor Eridosan)

Kwen groans and wipes the blood out of his eyes, getting ready to draw his new bow, keeping his footing would be dangerous for anyone who wasn't as nimble. Perhaps it is the rogue's training, or his heritage, but right now finding out who is attacking the others. A wicked thought enters his mind, using the desert poison against the parties foes, but unsure how much time he would have to coat the arrows, even with the special compartment that the quiver had.

Angels bleed from the tainted touch of my caress

Sajeek steps into his throw, and feels the satisfaction of watching his throw cross the expanse and cause the cur to yelp in pain.

Revery starts to blindly pick his way in the direction that he thinks is the exit (2 round duration of blindness).

Though the gnoll dodges much of the shaman's spell, it still gets hit by the tail end of it.

Reflex Save vs. Frost Rift: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20

Perhaps there is still some vestiges of the blindness, since the gnoll that seeks to return fire to Sajeek has the weapon slip out of its hands and lob right into the pit (critical failure).

Gwendalyn takes a javelin to the shin.

Revery is wide open for a ranged attack, and it lands in his side.

Gnoll 1 (Sajeek): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7 (10 damage)
Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6

Gnoll 2 (Gwendalyn) 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (7) + 9 = 16 (16 damage)
Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4

Gnoll 3 (Revery) 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (3) + 9 = 12 (2 damage)
Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8

Each of the gnolls moves towards the planks, and look about ready to drop them and cross.

(end of round)
(start of new round)

Kwen arrives, and Nogglegrop is not that far behind.

Angels bleed from the tainted touch of my caress

Revery's eyes provide nothing more than the barest glimpse of a multi-chromatic blur (blinded), but the spell only overloads the eyes for a few seconds (second round affected, next round vision will return). It is less fun being on the receiving end of one's magics, but it provides a very strong lesson in how much more effective such spells are on fellow spellcasters, when compared to melee combatants (based around fort save, which spellcasters are generally lacking, and spells that require LOS are lost to them).

The gnolls leave ropes of blood trailing from a number of wounds:

  • Gnoll 1 (10 damage taken)
  • Gnoll 2 (28 damage taken)
  • Gnoll 3 (2 damage taken)

Kwen enters the room to see what looks like a dysfunctional dodgeball game for psychopaths (has full actions standing at the back of the room).

Nogglegrop barks out that Sajeek and Gwendalyn should stop f+&@ing around and learn to harness the spirit of the wolf already.

male Half Elf Rogue /Markus Vardin Human cleric (Giant Slayer Blackguard Kwenilithmor Eridosan)

Kwen draws his bow, looking for a target to hit, seeing the gnolls, Kwen gives a smile and takes aim. Letting fly an arrow hoping to hit one of them when they least expect it.

Vah Shir Beastlord and Bast Kejek Tiger

At the sound of Noggy's voice shouting at them, Sajeek grins as he starts to take Gwen's place . Tugging the javelin that gashed his side, only to be snagged in his cloak, he spares a glance over his shoulder. Freeing the weapon, Sajeek turns his attention back to the gnolls.

"I'll get right on that Noggy!" the Beastlord calls back. Sajeek thinks about holding his throw until the gnolls drop the planks. As he gets to closer to cover he decides it a good enough plan.

If the young vah shir gets a good look at whichever gnoll was worse off (if any), Sajeek would target that one. Otherwise, he'll throw at the gnoll he had been picking on.

ooc:

Revery (Erudite Enchanter) in somnis veritas // Kspress (Iksar Monk) Your pain is the breaking of your shell.

Revery stops to cast Invisibility on himself (5 Mana), then keeps moving away from the fighting at a safe speed, until his vision returns.

(HP: 13/35, Mana: 41/90)

Angels bleed from the tainted touch of my caress

As soon as the rogue enters the chamber he can see the three gnolls gathered on the other side of the chasm by the two lanterns: one discarded by Revery and the other carried by Gwendalyn.

Kwen launches an arrow from his bow as Sajeek releases his javelin, but neither find the mark. The arrow bounces off of armour, which shows that hit was close to spilling blood.

Revery disappears, but continues to make noise (require sneak check at a -5 to the roll if trying to move silently). He immediately feels his invisibility spell lifting (2 rounds until it lapses). His trail of some of the previous chamber's fluids was not as prevalent as it had been initially, but all of gnolls still had an educated guess of where he was (50% concealment penalty to next round's attacks).

Nogglegrop is working his way into the room (will be able to act next round).

Gwendalyn is mind-boggingly lying down in the middle of the battlefield, but does not look to be sorely injured.

Barbarian Shaman (Luminary Gwendalyn Shaughnessy the Giant Slayer)

Seeing the ragged-eared gnolls getting ready to come over, Gwendalyn grins and stands back up. "It's about time!" She casts a swift little healing spell on herself, and then moves between them and where she thinks Revery is, drawing her cherished hammer once more. (Minor Healing, 1d10 ⇒ 9, 3/50 mana, 35/45 hp)

Angels bleed from the tainted touch of my caress

Glancing about you are able to get a gist of how to the others are doing, except for Revery, his spell has left his fragile condition as a mystery to both friend and foe:

  • Kwen (38/45 hit points, 1 nonlethal damage)
  • Sajeek (36/53 hit points)
  • Gwendalyn (35/45 hit points)
  • Revery (13/35 hit points, blinded, invisible)

Gwendalyn drops a quick heal on herself, and feels the fatigue of using up so much spell energy (roleplaying mechanism, no statistical affect), she stands, moves and draws her weapon, forcing her to drop her unlit lantern in the process.

There is intelligence in the eyes of these foes, which suggests that they have the capacity for tactics beyond the ken of just mindlessly employing their weaponry. A few boards are dropped by the most injured of the gnolls (gnoll 2 - 28 damage taken), and then the seemingly suicidal charge is on (balance check vs. DC 10 to cross, or DC 15 at speed).

    Balance (Gnoll 1): 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (17) + 0 = 17 (success)
    Balance (Gnoll 2) 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17 (success)
    Balance (Gnoll 3): 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (16) + 0 = 16 (success)

Gwendalyn places herself between Revery, an easier prospect since the enchanter has not even attempted to quiet his footfalls, and that simple act has likely saved his life. Ragged and rusted longswords, poorly taken care of by their owners, are swung with cruel intentions (+2 to strike added for charge, -2 to AC).

    Gnoll 1 (Sajeek): 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (9) + 10 = 19 (10 damage taken)
    Damage: 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9

    Gnoll 3 (Gwendalyn): 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (16) + 10 = 26 (2 damage taken)
    Damage: 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11

The last of the gnolls, a creature that is slightly larger than the other two, also charges across the expanse, but then moves toward where Revery had stood, as if seeking to pick up the enchanter's scent so he can track the erudite down and eat him. It barks out something ominous in its foreign tongue, which you are fairly confident is not overly complimentary.

    (end of round)
    (start of new round)

Revery gains his sight back (1 round left of invisibility remains).

Nogglegrop arrives full of profanity and sheathed in dripping gore.

Revery (Erudite Enchanter) in somnis veritas // Kspress (Iksar Monk) Your pain is the breaking of your shell.

Revery is relieved as his eyesight returns. He sees he is right near the entrance and the sea of humanity lies right before him. He turns only his head to see if any gnolls are heading his way, and if his pet is attacking. Indeed, he is, in fact he attacked the first gnoll that came across which attacked Revery.

    Vick's attack:

    Attack, damage
    1d20 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 51d6 ⇒ 4

    (AC 13, HP: 5, Hardness: 5)

    (HP: 13/35, Mana 41/90)

male Half Elf Rogue /Markus Vardin Human cleric (Giant Slayer Blackguard Kwenilithmor Eridosan)

Kwen mutters another curse as his armor just missed his target, setting up another shot with his bow, he aims at the gnoll snuffing around looking for someone's scent. Knowing that he would only get one more shot with his bow before getting ready to leap into the fray with his blades.

    attack action:

    Standard attack with bow 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24
    damage 1d6 + 0 ⇒ (1) + 0 = 1
Move action drop bow, draw scimitar and Kurki

" Oi Dog Meat! why don'tcha pick on someone a little closer to your weight class! Or a contingent of Elven warriors! " The Rogue calls, trying to get the gnoll's attention and to throw it off balance.

    bluff check:

    1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16

Vah Shir Beastlord and Bast Kejek Tiger

Sajeek snarls when the gnoll's hits him after a crazy charge across the planks. Glaring at the dog-faced creature, the Beastlord flexes his claws.

"Now Bast!" Sajeek calls for the hidden warder as he strikes the gnoll rapidly. He silently curses himself for not having one of his claws tied on. Today was full of all sorts of painful learning lessons.

Bast tears out of his hiding spot at the call of Sajeek to join the fray. The tiger had been growing bored watching the pointed sticks being tossed back and forth. He was eager to sink his fangs into something. The big tiger let's out a roar moments before he bites at the dog-face that his brother-in-spirit was fighting with.

    ooc:
    Attack and Damage:#1:1d20 + 8 ⇒ (19) + 8 = 271d4 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4. #2:1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 161d4 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4.
    Hp(+bns): 26/53
    Mana: 3/8
    AC(+bns): 16
    Bast: Move to get into range and attack. Att and Dam:1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 221d6 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5.
    Hp(+bns): 39/39
    AC(+bns): 17

Angels bleed from the tainted touch of my caress

Nogglegrop clambers into the room, throwing one last tear-stained glance back at the horrors of the previous room, and works into the middle of the fray (full move action). Looking at the closest gnoll he whistles and pats his leg like he's calling a dog to come lick his hand. The indignity of the gesture appears to be lost on the gnolls. The gnome had run right past Revery with no clue that he was there.

The boards of the makeshift bridge groaned under the abuse of three gnolls crossing at once. Bast might be too heavy for the bridge, though there are a few more loose 14' long boards on the other side that have not been used yet.

Revery's pet launches itself in the general direction of the first two gnolls that come across the makeshift bridge, but it misses so completely that it leaves one to wonder which of them it was aiming at. Perhaps it couldn't make up what passed for its mind and swung at both at the same time.

The enchanter is a distance away from where the gnolls came into the room, but get this sneaking suspicion that the gnoll that separated itself from the others is looking right at him. Perhaps it is just a trick of the nerves. This one carries a longsword that is well taken care of (masterwork).

Kwen's arrow tears past the gnoll's breastplate and shield, finding the meat underneath. It is just a glancing blow, but it does attract its attention. The rogue's words are lost on the gnoll, since it doesn't speak the common tongue.

Bast reveals his presence with an incredibly loud growl, as Sajeek is struck. It had waited too long, and the large ambush predator bunches its legs under it and prepares to launch itself into the fray. Cats hate dogs, even half dogs.

Between the crazed run across the planks (-2 to AC for charging) and working together (+2 to strike for flanking), Sajeek can't miss, and dog's blood coats tiger claws and his own fists.

    Gnoll 1: (23 damage taken)
    Gnoll 2: (29 damage taken)
    Gnoll 3: (2 damage taken)

The tide of the battle appears to be turning in the group's favour, but the one that separated from the others looks like has been barely scratched, and the all but ignored third one had shown itself to have spells at its disposal.

Barbarian Shaman (Luminary Gwendalyn Shaughnessy the Giant Slayer)

Gwendalyn is relieved that her positioning had made it a little harder for the gnolls to reach Revery -- but it also meant that she didn't get to pick her foe. Not with a sword waving in her face, ready to take advantage of any opening. She returns the spellcaster's blow with her two-handed hammer, while using up all but the last of her mana to heal herself a little.

    Rolls:
    Attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21
    ...Damage: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (2, 4) + 6 = 12

    Minor Healing
    1d10 ⇒ 4

    1/50 mana, 28/45 hp

Angels bleed from the tainted touch of my caress

The spellcaster (gnoll 3, 14 damage taken) feels the air cruelly blown out of its lungs, and shakes its head for a moment before returning the favour (5' step back to avoid AoO). Fingers wave in the air and Gwendalyn has to force her eyes shut before the blast of illumination steals her sight.

(Gwendalyn: please include a DC 16 Fort save in your next post)

    Gnoll 1 (Sajeek): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 8 = 22 (23 damage taken)
    Rusted Longsword Damage: 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14

You have never heard a dog laugh. You are thankful for that. The largest of the gnolls simply kicks the lantern, that Revery left behind, into the chasm, sinking the room into perfect blackness.

The next attack is not seen by Revery, Gwendalyn, Bast or Sajeek, but it is certainly felt as Kwen finds himself at the receiving end of a javelin throw.

    Gnoll 2 (Kwen): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24 (29 damage taken)
    Javelin Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4

The dangerous gnoll moves to get close enough to chop Bast into bite-sized kitty litter (5' step).

    (end of round)
    (start of new round)

    Revery reappears.

Nogglegrop takes a moment to survey the battlefield, understanding that most of his allies cannot see. The enchanter was in dire straits, and it is he that receives the gnome's healing first (23/50 mana).

Minor Healing (free action, Revery): 1d10 ⇒ 9
Minor Healing (standard action, Revery): 1d10 ⇒ 8

Barbarian Shaman (Luminary Gwendalyn Shaughnessy the Giant Slayer)

"%$#@!" Gwendalyn curses as her sight is stoen by a spell that she's used before herself. Hearing the clatter of Sajeek's soiled lantern skittering across the chamber and into the chasm, it isn't too hard for her to figure out that she isn't the only who can't see. Taking advantage of the gnoll spellcaster having stepped back to not get hit by her, Gwen drops her hammer and commences lighting the lantern at her feet, which she plans to keep a very firm grip on.

    Rolls:
    Fort save: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7

    Listen (if necessary): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10

    Miss chance (if necessary): 1d100 ⇒ 84

Angels bleed from the tainted touch of my caress

Gwendalyn also gets to experience the frustrations of blindness (2 rounds), as Revery had. It gives some perspective on how her foes must have felt.

The lantern had been discarded as Gwendalyn had moved to save Revery from being impaled (lantern dropped as a free action at the start of the move, weapon drawn as part of move action). It was not close to her current position. She is confident that she is about to get her head caved in at any second, while sweeping her hands along the floor looking for her source of potential illumination.

Nogglegrop yells in the limited iksar tongue, "Get lantern I", and Gwendalyn can hear his little metallically-clad legs pumping to backtrack along her previous path.

male Half Elf Rogue /Markus Vardin Human cleric (Giant Slayer Blackguard Kwenilithmor Eridosan)

Kwen gives a mocking laugh at the gnoll, then places the Kurki between his teeth, then pulls the Wisp corpse out from his belt bathing the party with light.
He moves closer to the combat getting ready for a real combat, one that he has spent time working with. Kwen's goal was to get into range and take a swing at the spell casting gnoll.

if able to attack this round:

    Standard action swing with Scimitar 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10
As part of his move action pull the wisp corpse from his belt

Barbarian Shaman (Luminary Gwendalyn Shaughnessy the Giant Slayer)

Realizing that she'd left her lantern behind, Gwendalyn gives up, takes hold of her hammer once more, and steps forward to pay back the gnoll that blinded her. Unsurprisingly, her swings hit nothing but air.

    Rolls:
    Attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11

Angels bleed from the tainted touch of my caress

A clear white light pushes back the darkness (30 radius), causing all present to squint and momentarily lift their hands to shield their eyes from the light. A handful of heartbeats later, once eyes have acclimatized to the willowisp stone, the combat continues anew.

All can see, save the shaman, and the gnoll that kicked the lantern has lost its smile, as all the gnolls have lost their momentary advantage.

Gwendalyn swings at empty air, not even knowing if she was aimed at the gnoll. Though she cannot see it, the gods themselves must be guiding her hand, for she moves as if she had perfect night vision. It is only the speed of the gnoll that saves it from the hammer's impact.

    Concealment (50%, Gwendalyn): 1d100 ⇒ 100 (success)

Kwen takes the long route around the larger gnoll and swings at empty air once he closes the distance on the gnoll that is lining up the shaman's throat as a flesh sheath for his rusty longsword.

Revery (Erudite Enchanter) in somnis veritas // Kspress (Iksar Monk) Your pain is the breaking of your shell.

Revery wonders what is giving off that light, but is thankful for it just the same. And thankful for Noggy's spells which have healed most of his pincushion holes. He sees his pet moving to one of the gnolls and attacking again.

His pet, Vick, attacks one of the gnolls...

    Vick's attack:

    Attack, damage
    1d20 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 1 = 171d6 ⇒ 5

    (AC 13, HP: 5, Hardness: 5)

Revery looks at the closest gnoll, and prays his spell will work. He casts two spells at him in rapid succession, because there's not enough blindness and confusion going around, just yet.

Then he changes position, moving a little into the room and to the right, quietly.

    Sneak1d20 ⇒ 20

    Revery's spells:

Quickened Shallow Breath, free action, no AOO (4 mana)
Damage: 1d4 ⇒ 3 and -2 to DEX and STR for 8 rounds
Save: Fort 20 for half damage and no ability loss.

    Eye of Confusion (4 mana)
    Blinds for 1d4 ⇒ 2 rounds.
    Save: Will 22

    Mana: 33/90, hp: 30/35

Vah Shir Beastlord and Bast Kejek Tiger

Sajeek tries to ignore his hot life blood leaking down his fur. Between the wounds and rapid draining of his precious mana, the vah shir's vision was started to fuzz near the edges.

Getting hit again might very well end bring a fast end to his short life. With that thought in mind, Sajeek chants a quick healing spell. Surprising himself, the Beastlord doesn't trip up when asking for spiritual healing. Some of the sting of his wounds fades. The sense of fatigue grows as his mana dwindles to almost nothing.

Knowing he has to drop the gnoll that is cutting him to ribbons, Sajeek growls and throws himself in the fray once more.

Bast roars and rips into the gnoll. Claws and fang flashing in the bright white light, the reddish-orange tiger gets ready to kill him one of these dog-face. He doubted they were edible, given how badly they stunk.

    ooc:
    Minor Healing:1d10 ⇒ 10
    Attack and damage (+2 flanking) #1:1d20 + 10 ⇒ (10) + 10 = 201d4 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4. #2:1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 191d4 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4

    AC(+bns): 17

Angels bleed from the tainted touch of my caress

Revery's summoned minion works to assist the beastlord and warder. Its magical blade ducks under its hovering shield, and comes back sheathed in blood.

An explosion of viscera stains Bast's teeth and one of its claws as the freshly healed Sajeek crushes bone with his bare hands. The first gnoll that had charged across the makeshift bridge (gnoll 1) collapses with the warder continuing to tear out its innards. It is still alive and screaming for a few moments, and then the light leaves its eyes.

The largest of the gnolls clutches at its throat, but wards off the attempt to blind it.

    Fort Save vs. Shallow Breath: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (4) + 11 = 15 (failed)
    Will Save vs. Eye of Confusion: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24 (success)

Two unexpected reinforcements had joined the fray, and while the gnolls don't understand how low the party's magical energies have dwindled, they do understand that they just lost one of their number. Backing up they cross the bridge (withdraw) and kick the lumber into the chasm.

One board remains loosely in place, and Revery's pet continues over using that as makeshift "ground." The enchanter's minion harries the gnolls until you lose sight of them fleeing into a tunnel.

    (end of combat)

You are left with a 9 poorly crafted javelins (-1 to strike), a single 14' long board crossing the chasm, a body of a dead gnoll (poorly crafted breastplate -1 to AC, wooden shield, rusted longsword -1 to strike) and 5 gold pieces.

Nogglegrop, his armour dripping the gore of the previous room, a room close enough to make you still want to puke, watches the departure of the shaman gnoll, and the larger choking one, smiling every time he can hear Revery's pet connect with a swing.

Turning back to the others he works to relieve the shaman and rogue's pain (13/50 mana).

    Light Healing (Gwendalyn): 4d6 ⇒ (5, 5, 4, 4) = 18

    Light Healing (Kwen): 4d6 ⇒ (3, 3, 2, 6) = 14 (nonlethal damage healed as well)

(please update your hit points and mana in your next post)

Revery (Erudite Enchanter) in somnis veritas // Kspress (Iksar Monk) Your pain is the breaking of your shell.

"I had this dream. I dreamt I was a pincushion, and this big dog kept sticking pins in me... Ah, thank you all for your healing. I was just starting to get into that fight, so I guess I must have scared them off." Revery sits down with a sigh.

"Thank you, Noggy and Kwen, for coming to save us. I was about to bolt when you arrived. Did you find the source of the whimpering?"

male Half Elf Rogue /Markus Vardin Human cleric (Giant Slayer Blackguard Kwenilithmor Eridosan)

Kwen carefully, takes the blade out from his teeth, making sure it not cut himself. Trying to get a hold of his emotions, or at least get the anger under control.
" Thanks Noggy well, yes Revery I did find the source of the whimping, the motherless dog f*@#%* has an Elven girl named Justis as a prisoner, in what I can only imagine a 'gilded' cage. It looks like a bedroom, with a music box being played... forever. The cage itself has bars around her and an impressive lock, she is scared, I want to get her out of there, but the hole that I was able to look up at and see her is a privy hole. You could barely fit a loaf of bread in it. I gave her one of my daggers after she gave me this."
Kwen lifts up the Wisp corpse which he hands to Revery saying " Hold on to this please I need to get my bow back, I'm not leaving that behind." He stalks off to get his bow, sheathing both of his blades, he makes his way back to where he dropped his bow and picks it back up.
Returning back to the group he says " Other then that, I think today is going to be a good day, for us. We've had a few setbacks, but all of us are alive, I'm not to happy at the moment at being down here, but if we can save Justis, and not die. Well then it will be a great day, for us... and of course breaking every bone in o Remover of Hearts will make me feel almost as good."
