Any place? My room at the Boot!
If limited to the mayors villa, then the stairwell outside the main room of the party.
Chris Welch DM2 |
With an image of your warm and comfy room in mind, you open the door. Through the door frame you can see through wavering air your room at the Boot. You usher Ragnar inside, and after he makes his way through you follow. As you walk through the doorway you feel a tingle and small rush of air. Looking back behind you, you only see the rest of the interior of your room.
Ragnar "Foesbane" Gothgarson |
Looking around in amazement, Ragnar quickly gains his bearings. Well friend elf, this is no room in the Mayor's villa I have ever seen. Do you know where you have landed us?
Caldir |
Ragnar, my friend, we are in the city, in my room at a inn called the Travelers Boot. How about that ale?
(Try to make myself presentable before going out to the common room. Alert Ragnar that I am going to alter my appearance for the common room using my hat of disguise. I will take on appearance of a human fighter type.)
And Ragnar, don't call me Caldir, call me Floki while in this disguise and do not mention the mayor's villa.
Ragnar "Foesbane" Gothgarson |
Heh, Caldir is it? Why do you think I've been calling you friend elf this entire time? You never gave me your name and in my land it is rude to ask. Hope you aren't in too much trouble in Westcrown Caldir as I may have done enough for the both of us. When Mayor Doskivari finds out I've escaped not just that canvas but the Knot too? Well I'd say there will be hell to pay, but I've already paid that tab. Where's my ale 'Floki'!
He heads confidently to the door.
Caldir |
Head to the common room and grab a table in the corner. Order up some food and ale.
Chris Welch DM2 |
A few heads turn as you walk down the stairs and walk in to the taproom with your large companion. You see Sarchep steadily working behind the bar. He looks at you, looks at the stairs, and then looks back at you thoughtfully but continues to serve drinks.
One of the regular servers walks over to you and asks for your order. Even though she is rather plain, Ragnar looks at her like a wolf appraising a young lamb.
Ragnar "Foesbane" Gothgarson |
He looks at you hesitantly, like he is going to wait on you, but instead blurts out Bring two huge slabs of meat and two overfull flagons of ale....and whatever my friend Floki here wants.
Caldir |
To the server:
"My appetite is not as great as my friend's, I will only take one of each."
nothing gets by Sarchep
Ragnar "Foesbane" Gothgarson |
Do you know how pleasant it is to smell something besides sulphur, soot, and blood? I feel more alive than I thought possible, even with my wounds! I can't wait to get my hands on this meal! Gorum's teeth! I can't wait to get my hands on those tankards! Out of respect for your inn I'll keep my hands off the lady's bum, but I'm not so wounded that I could use a good frolick with a lass or three!
The server comes back at just that moment and blushes akwardly at the last, placing down three tall tankards.
Ragnar immediately takes the first one and downs it in a quick gulp before setting it back down.
ANOTHER!he exhorts the server who, looking startled, he follows up with Sorry lass, but it's been a while since the fine foam has touched these lips. Yes indeed, it's been a while if you ken what I'm saying. He gives her an appraising stare.
diplomacy: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
She blushes even deeper and rushes away akwardly mumbling I'll be back with your food in a bit.
Ragnar-Well she's not the most likely lass and all is she?...sighs...At least my beer loves me. and sets to work sipping at his remaining tankard.
Chris Welch DM2 |
Sarchep continues to watch your table steadily, you notice that he finds time to speak with one of the men he has hired as security for the place. You know he isn't very deadly, but of course Sarchep's is fairly respectable. Sarchep does nothing else, but you get the feeling that he knows you are out of place.
Caldir |
"It looks like you are a bit out of practice Ragnar, be patient and give it some time my friend."
I will wait until Sarchep looks our way and I will motion for him to come over to the table.
Chris Welch DM2 |
As your meal arrives you are finally able to catch Sarchep's eye. After a few moments, there is a lull at the bar and he takes a break and comes over to your table.
Eyeing you warily, Can I help you friend?
You notice that his bouncer has moved closer to your table and is watching the scene intently.
Caldir |
I motion him in close and whisper.
No need to worry Sarchep. It's me,Caldir, but don't blow my disguise, my friend here will need a room for at least a few days, I will pay the bill.
Caldir |
"Just keep the food and ale coming for Ragnar."
sleightofhand: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (11) + 11 = 22
I shake his hand, slipping him an amethyst worth 150GP.
"As always, I appreciate your discretion."
Caldir |
To Ragnar: "What are your plans for the near future my friend? Will anyone come looking for you?"
Ragnar "Foesbane" Gothgarson |
Finishing a huge wolf bite of meat on top of potatoes and rice, the large man chugs down the remainder of the second tankard just in time for two more to arrive.
Constitution: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
***hic***
Loudly-Mmm, hey, what?!! Future plans Tilbagebetale min wyrgelt selvfolgelig! Heh? Oh! Undskyld! I mean, I'm sorry. Whoo!...quieting... I guess my skills with the lassies aren't the only thing that need practice. I haven't felt this loopy since I was a lad. What comes next depends largely on your plans. I am bound to your side until my gelt is paid, that's for certain. As to those 'a come a calling for me, I mark the Mayor Doskivari for one. That crafty priest of Asomodeus is sure to want to fulfill his contract with me if he hears I'm out of tha canvas. Diabolical bastard! I knew I should never have signed myself away so cheap, but any cave in a blizzard my da' was wont to say. Plus with House Thrune on the rise and seemingly certain of the throne I figured it'd be best to place my coin on that pony. I s'pose if you are of mind we could sign with a different house and keep those diabolical bastards from ruling all of Cheliax!
Although he quieted down after catching himself earlier, Ragnar finishes his outburst with a much louder tone and emphasizes his point by pulling back on the tankard once more and glaring around the room. You notice that others look a little wide eyed at your table after his outburst impugning the Royal House of Cheliax. No one gets up to leave, but you know that any more from your towering friend and people will start to panic at being associated with such talk.
Caldir |
knowlocal: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (9) + 8 = 17
"I am beat Ragnar and you look like you are about to pass out, let us head to our rooms for the night, I will come get you in the morning."
Ragnar "Foesbane" Gothgarson |
Hearing your words, Ragnar slams back the last flagon.
Fer 'nuff thenn, ind't it. I'll juss be 'long to me room and er soft feathery beds.
He stands and Sarchep seeing your predicament is quick at hand to usher him up to his room.
Caldir |
I will talk to him in the morning. He has been through hell recently so I was cutting him some slack tonight. All I need is a good night's rest, thanks for your help Sarchep.
Caldir |
Get up the next morning and get Ragnar. Head to the shop of Thendeor. Still using my disguise until I enter the shop.
Caldir |
Ask Thendeor to detect magic and ID everything and then would probably like to sell most of the stuff to him.

The shop is willing to buy anything you want to sell at 90% of book value and sell at 100% of book value (if they can get it). The clerk indicates that the rate is usually 70%/120% BUT since you are a friend of Nashtakan's...
Wand of CLW he can procure within 2 days, but the weapons and armor may take some time for him to procure (2 weeks or so). All purchases require a 20% deposit to begin the acquisition process.
Caldir |
I've got some ideas, but what would you buy?
Caldir |
"I would like to purchase a Belt of Incredible Dexterity +6 (36,000) and a Belt of Physical Perfection +2 (16,000) for my friend here. How long to get the items?"
There goes my TON of gold!
Chris Welch DM2 |
Looking very pleased with the haul of gold coming into the store the clerk pauses and then quickly fingers a wand. Please wait a few moments. A few minutes later he returns with a small mirror that has the face of a well dressed and maintained man you recognize as Thendeor. Thendeor-Patron Caldir! You have made this a great day for my establishment and your continued patronage is appreciated. I would not extend this service to most customers, but then YOU have become not just any customer. Generally I would reccomend the purchase of two belts of physical perfection and then upgrading them. Since you have brought some much trade my way, I offer to exchange your belt of incredible dexterity at full price for any other item you desire, with the assurance that it is in good condition of course. In addition, I will extend to you my most favorable trading terms-purchases and sales can both be made at 95% of list price. This is a rare privelage I extend to only my elite customers and I trust you to be discreet with it. Thank you once more for your business!
The image fades from the mirror and the clerk beams up at you, I just knew he would want the news! As for your purchases, the lesser belt we have in stock but the greater will have to be manufactured from one of lesser power. It should be ready in about a week. Would you like to take possesion of the available merchandise now?
Caldir |
"Yes, thank you, we will take the Belt of Physical Perfection now. I will be back next week for the Belt of Dexterity."
I hand the belt to Ragnar.
Ragnar "Foesbane" Gothgarson |
Caldir, this is a princely gift; these are worn by the kings of my land. I can never repay your generosity, but I mean to try.
He takes it with shaking hands and straps it about his waist. Immediately he looks a little tougher, thicker, and more nimble. Dancing a quick jig, Now I ready my heart for battle and my hands for the blade! He circumspectly keeps his hands away from his sword, however, having been warned by you earlier about the guardians in this place.
Caldir |
My thanks, see you next week.
Resume my disguise just before heading outside and whisper:
"Ragnar, now we are going to meet with some other friends of mine, they are known as the Nine Star Knights. I must talk with them about the Chelish Crux."
Head to the hideout.
Ragnar "Foesbane" Gothgarson |
Knights, hey? Never had much use for their fussy type. All orders, and horses, and nobility. Give me a few of my northern brothers and we'll wipe the field clean of them; HAR! Friends of yours though, will be friends of mine. I'll be as interested as anyone to see what the hells is in that little contraption.
He follows you out the door.
Chris Welch DM2 |
You make your way through the streets, and make the top of the long stairs. Only a few hundred yards left till you make the hide-a-way.
Suddenly, in front of you, a pentagram of molten fire appears in the middle of the street. Passersby scream and head for cover as a hideously formed bone creature outlined in flame and sulphorous smoke appears.
Merging the most horrifying features of carrion-fed insect and withered cadaver, this bony devil moves in unsettling lurches.
