Seeing Elinor hit, chivalry takes over. Abbas may do as he is told but that monstrous troll is ripping up his friend and he can help.
"Sorry Ellie. Gotta help you. This is bad thing."
His shining staff is shod with golden light at each end as he goes for the patella twice.
Abbas steps up five foot to O19, and attacks the knees of the troll. Enact Smite evil Left attack 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (1) + 9 = 10, damage 1d6 + 3 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 3 + 3 + 1 = 12, Right attack 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (14) + 9 = 23, damage 1d6 + 3 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 3 + 3 + 1 = 10. AC23 vs that troll.

Narnel Falerathon |

Round 8, Favored Target.
Narnel, seeing Eli in danger, moves to t-20 as he draws his sword and hides in the foliage looking for an opportunity to strike from a flanking position as his next move.
Hang in there Eli, Abbas and I are coming.
Stealth: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (6) + 10 = 16

Bryndyn sidesteps slightly and is missed by the grotesque teeth of the troll and then winces as the big cat takes a claw to his flank. In the periphery of his vision, he sees Elinor take a hit and he growls. His new tribe is in real danger here and he can't do enough to protect them. Seeing Abbas and Narnel move to help Eli, Bryndyn braces his feet and strikes at the troll again.

Damage with Heavy Shock Mace 1d8 + 3 + 1 + 1d6 ⇒ (6) + 3 + 1 + (3) = 13
Song, no flank (I saw the map today and see I'm next to the big monster, but can't remember if I have a flank, despite all of us around him. If I do have flank, please add +2 to my hit)

Aidan Ayrvar |

Are these things really good, or really lucky?
Climb: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11
Fire elementals appear in O20 and Q15 in order to flank.
Attack 1: 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 4 + 2 = 17
Damage 1: 1d4 ⇒ 4
Attack 2: 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 4 + 2 = 11
Damage 2: 1d4 ⇒ 4
Any troll hit by an elemental must succeed on a reflex save DC 11 or catch fire for 1d4 rounds, taking 1d4 damage per round.
How not-okay is Elinor? Is anyone other than Harlynn critically injured? If Harlynn is the only one critically injured, then the following action stands:
Narnel, pull her back! Aidan beseeches as he jumps down from his perch. Lightning strikes the ground, and flaming snakes rise from the smolders to strike at the trolls as Aidan points at them in turn. Ducking through the melee, Aidan prays he is not too late to get the conjurer back into this fight.
Wish I had that damn horse, he thinks as he jogs the distance.

Taedric Starfell |

Sigil -- how tall are the rocks? Was that established? Wondering if I can get Trumps to leap one and charge the one that attacked Harlynn. (I'll have to poke him again for that.)

Taedric Starfell |

Drat. Ok, Trumps'll double move into range and a sadly non-charge attack from reach.
Taedric winces as he sees Harlynn take the wounds, and snarls, his mind filling with both guilt at letting a target pass him and hatred that the troll would step around. He whispers to Trumps, "Get in there, but be prepared to step back.", wishing he had a free hand to dig for his alchemists's fire The wolf races forward around the obstacles, denying his two-footed friend the momentum of a charge, but Taedric stands in the saddle and drives the lance with all the weight his small frame affords him.
Magical Lance: 1d20 + 7 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 7 + 1 = 17 for 1d6 + 2 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 2 + 4 + 1 = 13 Again, assumes +1 weapon, +1 bardic inspiration from Eli, and +4 since he's still the target of my challenge.
Defensive training has Taedric at AC 26 vs. this troll, 24 against the others. If the troll attacks Trumps instead, then: Mounted Combat (Avoid): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23

Elinor Knutsdottir |

Oops. Looks like it should be me - soz.
"Alright, I suppose we can share."
Knowing another blow like that could make breathing uncomfortable Ellie goes to a fully defensive stance and hopes that Abbas can finish the creature while it's occupied with her.
Full defence, AC goes to 30.

As Aidans flaming aids arise, the creatures turn wide-eyed. The effect is only magnified when one of them hits the troll in the center.
Harlynn wisely withdraws deeper into the rock formations. Overhead the vultures continue their unholy cheers.

M16>N17>R17. i should move just outside the Troll's reach. I'm hoping Narnel drags Harlynn towards me so I can heal in the same round. I didn't know she had gone back into the rocks, or even if she was still conscious. If he uses the drag combat maneuver it shouldn't provoke AoO from baddie, and it'll get her in range so I can heal.
Tkurzhan is struck, and counters with an unprecedented fury.

Aidan thanks for that wrap-up! Loved it!
Tkurzhan lashes out. His instincts now taking over and guiding him to the best places to strike. Bryndyn follows up on his attack and the impossible happens. The monstrosity falls.
Narnel slips into a position behind Elinor, hoping he is unseen.
Both the remaining trolls suddenly realize that this fight did not go anything like the one they had earlier. Roaring in frustration one spins on Taedric and cuts the gnome with its foul claws. The other turns and focuses the same rage and fear at Abbas and manages a similar result.
And worse, the one on the ground's wounds stitch and heal before your eyes. Rising up, he looks for revenge!
Taedric takes 9 points and Abbas takes 7. Bryndyn, Tkurzhan and the elemental all get AoO. If you do not fell it, it still has to swing at you. Harlynn, Taedric, Tzurkhan, Bryndyn, Narnel, monsters, Seneca, Elinor, Abbas, Aidan. Elinor, Abbas and Aidan are up.

I don't suppose my shock damage is anything like fire damage to a troll? Also - Does Bryndyn know about trolls & Fire
Bryndyn looks at the troll as it heals and then begins to stand. His hit, his repeated hits, should have been enough to keep anything this side of a dragon, down. Angry, he swings again, hoping to brain the beast and keep him down once and for all.
Attack with Heavy Shock Mace 1d20 + 8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 8 + 1 = 13

16 to hit for 2 damage and 4 fire damage. DC 11 reflex save required.
Did any of the trolls get hit by elementals last round? If so, did they catch fire? The attacks were 17 and 11, which should have suckerpunched at least one troll's regen. Just not sure which one.
Aidan jogs the rest of the way to Harlynn, weaving through the rocks, his hands already charging with white light.
I'll use the rest of my movement to get within touch range and discharge my cure light.
CLW Harlynn: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
The elementals continue their assault, their forms cracking and sparking with white-hot sparks.

14 to hit for 1 damage and 1 fire damage.
13 to hit for 2 damage and 3 fire damage.
Bryn, I think it was announced by Eli to use fire. If not, it is by now pretty obvious from the rest of our tactics.

Abbas continues his assault, not having any fire other than the inner light of his staff. The man goes for the knees despite the damage he took last time and hopes to get the monster down.

Are there any attacks of opportunity when the troll got up? At work so no map at the mo.

Aidan Ayrvar |

I have the map from mid-round 7, and you're too far from middle troll to make the AoO, but there was one, yes.
I was actually a little confused by the "burn" ability. I thought it could be that you have to save to keep from taking any fire damage... But with a re-read, quoted here:
Burn (Ex) A creature with the burn special attack deals fire damage in addition to damage dealt on a successful hit in melee. Those affected by the burn ability must also succeed on a Reflex save or catch fire, taking the listed damage for an additional 1d4 rounds at the start of its turn (DC 10 + 1/2 burning creature's racial HD + burning creature's Con modifier). A burning creature can attempt a new save as a full-round action. Dropping and rolling on the ground grants a +4 bonus on this save. Creatures that hit a burning creature with natural weapons or unarmed attacks take fire damage as though hit by the burning creature and must make a Reflex save to avoid catching on fire.
Emphasis mine
I think it may be the case that you take it automatically.
Anyways, I never rolled the fire damage.retrofire: 1d4 ⇒ 4
If the middle troll did indeed take fire damage from the elemental last round, he's a goner. Still, if you don't want to retcon, that's fine. My mistake, anyways.
Sorry about the whole burn confusion thing, I've never summoned a fire elemental before.

Taedric Starfell |

Huh, you think AC 26 would be enough to save a gnome, but nooo..

Taedric Starfell |

Taedric winces as the blow strikes him, then says grimly, "So you're not a total coward after all. What's wrong? Don't like it when your food strikes back?", standing in the saddle again and driving the lance into the beast, with only an idle thought to the heavier hammer below him as the weapon has trouble penetrating the Troll's thick flesh..
Lance: 1d20 + 7 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 7 + 1 = 19 for 1d6 + 1 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 + 4 + 1 = 7 (+4 Challenge, +1 Bard Song)
He then allows himself to spin in the saddle, using taking cover against the Troll's attacks while Trumps backs out of the reach of the Troll's nasty teeth, the Gnome continuing to taunt his foe as he does, "Aw... Is your food outsmarting you as well as outfighting you?"
Ride (Cover): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (10) + 8 = 18 (vs. DC 15)
Taedric's moving back 20' -- to get out of range, and if the troll doesn't follow, have room to charge.
With full cover and defensive training, Taedric's got AC 30 against this troll (28 vs. the rest). If the troll attacks Trumps as we retreat instead of Taedric, then...
Mounted Combat (Avoid): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (13) + 8 = 21 .. well, that's less than Trumps' AC, so that didn't help...

Narnel Falerathon |

Round 9, Flanking, Sneak Att, favored Target
Narnel circles around to N-22, and attacks the Troll from a flanking position with Eli.
CB Att: 1d20 + 9 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 9 + 1 = 30
CB dam: 1d10 + 1 + 1 + 1d6 ⇒ (6) + 1 + 1 + (2) = 10
Crit Confirm: 1d20 + 9 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 9 + 1 = 16
Add'l Dam: 1d10 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5

![]() |

Aidan, I agree with your reading and have factored in that damage.
The middle troll never gets a chance to stand. The combined blows of the heroes lay it low. But for how long?
Elinor continues to defend herself while Abbas keeps the beasts attention. He misses once, but connects on the next one and hits the creature in its vulnerable kneecap.
Aidan connects with Harlynn and selflessly heals her. Color and vigor instantly returning to her previously wane face. One elemental burns the downed foe, but the other provides Elinor with no relief.
Harlyn, Tzurkhan and Bryndyn please take your actions... I have Taedric and Narnels already.

Aidan Ayrvar |

Aidan whistles and points back away from the fight, and the big cat stalks, growling, from the field... for now.
Order disengage and move to M19, and stealth.
Stealth: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11
Not sure if I get a bonus from the rocks or not. Improved cover is a +10, total cover makes noticing impossible. Normal cover is no bonus.

Aidan Ayrvar |

FYI, there's a fire elemental right next to it that's about to go crazy on it, but Eli needs help.
Can we get an updated map, actually? Quick rundown of what I know - Harlynn Withdrew somewhere indeterminate in the rocks, X14 is 30' straight back. Aidan joined her there, probably in X15. Tkurzhan moved from O16 to L18 (I goofed reading the map earlier). Narnel just moved down to N22. Elementals are in O20 and Q15. Are you DMPCing Seneca? We could seriously use his wand of Cure Light and Abbas could definitely use the Touch Of Law. I'm not sure where Taedric is, but I'm guessing somewhere around K20? Aidan's almost out of spells, so it's time for him to start beating on people. Elementals will be around for another few rounds, but after that we'll need fire spells. Eli, Harlynn, Tkurzhan need healing - anyone else? I know Taedric was hit, but he's still up, so that's good.

Seeing the Fire Elemental move toward the fallen Troll, Bryndyn rushes to Eli's Aid.
Avoiding AoO if possible, and using a charge action, he'll attack if he can Thanks Aidan
Charge Attack with Heavy Shock Mace 1d20 + 8 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 8 + 1 + 2 = 17
Damage with Heavy Shock Mace 1d8 + 3 + 1 + 1d6 ⇒ (8) + 3 + 1 + (2) = 14
[ooc] unsure if a charge adjusts damage, so no extra damage added. [/occ]

Harlynn wastes not a moment and positions herself between 2 of her foes. She says the words of power and fire springs from her finger tips. This must be quite the surprise for a troll that moments ago counted her out of the fight! The smell of the burning troll flesh is noxious.
Taedric pricks his foe again and then falls back. The creature tries to snag him with its foul claws, but seems to have lost some will to fight.
Tzurkhan pulls himself back and out of the fight, though to lick his wounds or find a new angle of attack remains to be seen.
Bryndyn surges past the fallen troll and drives his mace into Elinor's enemy. His distraction is exactly what Narnel needs to deliver another blow, though this one from behind.
The monster on the grounds wounds continue to stitch together, but it does not move. Taedrics enemy has had enough of this fight. It turns and ambles off in the direction that it came. Unfortunately, Narnel seems to have attracted too much attention form the one he just stabbed. it turns and tries to destroy him, first with a grimy claw and then with its ferocious bite. The wounds are grievous and the elf falls!
Narnel takes 13 points. Harlynn, Taedric, Tzurkhan, Bryndyn, Narnel, monsters, Seneca, Elinor, Abbas, Aidan. Elinor, Abbas and Aidan are up.
Aidan, it you could post the map that will shortly be emailed, and if you want to run Seneca for the remainder of this combat it would make my life way easier! Thanks!

Aidan Ayrvar |

Map posted HERE.
I have no problem playing Seneca. I'll get familiar with his character tonight.
Aidan barks a command that sounds like the popping of a tree fallen to a wildfire, and the elemental surges forwards, ravaging the troll.
Coup de Grace, burn.
Coup de Grace: 2d4 + 2d4 ⇒ (2, 2) + (4, 4) = 12
4 points of damage and 8 points of fire damage and the troll's smoldering carcass catches on fire, taking 1d4 more every round. Muahaha!
The other elemental sputters and sparks, lunging at its enemy with soulless repetition.
Attack: 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 4 + 2 = 161d4 ⇒ 21d4 ⇒ 2
16 to hit for 2 damage and 2 fire damage against south troll. DC 11 reflex required.
I'm guessing by the new map that the other troll came down towards Seneca and is essentially standing where the last one fell?
Aidan sees the elf fall in the corner of his vision.
NARNEL! He cries in anguish as the lithe body of the hunter crumples.
A heat strikes his face, turning the world orange for a few moments, followed by the sickening waft of burning troll. Harlynn's hands smoke from the spell, but the Troll does not fall- it turns slowly to face the new threat.
With no time for caution, Aidan lets loose a roar and charges.
Charge: 1d20 + 4 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 4 + 1 + 2 = 192d6 + 2 ⇒ (4, 2) + 2 = 8
19 to hit for 8 damage. New AC is 15. (4 armor, 1 deflection, 2 natural, -2 charge) Charge to Q16.
The ashen staff smashes against the troll's back with a solid crack that resounds throughout the rocky clearing and, impossibly, knocks the creature off-balance with the force of the blow.
This is probably gonna hurt...

Taedric Starfell |

With the challenge active, Taedric would have tried to run him through rather than let him leave.
