Right now this is for discussing the rules.

First question, how would you change what I have established?

Second, what are the rules of the Triumvirate?

Liberty's Edge

Kingmaker Exploration Map

I have been participating in a group that does something similar to this.
Woldian Games
About the things that need to be taken into account:
a) Membership
They have the idea of accepting everybody that wants to join. There is no "doorman" to say you won't come in. Their idea is to "cull" the players on the games, and not before. I think they have something there.
They open a game, and people is accepted on a first come, first served basis. And if they don't post/play well, well, they get dropped. That way you get good players that maybe are not into great submissions or are new to the game.
b) Ruleset
The important thing is for a DM to receive an "existing" character without saying "WTF!?!". A common denominator. A ruleset every DM can be ok with, Characters that are "valid" for a group of (we hope) many DM.
As I see it there are 3 options.
- The Minimum Common Denominator: The most basic set of rules. Core Book, maybe one or two more, and that's it. (The Wold does that).
- Limited set: Pathfinder Society (They have made the work for us) or something similar, we make a set of XX books, and that's it.
- Free-for-all: If it is on d20pfsrd is valid. Even more. Each DM can do "extras".
I, for one, would like the Limited set. The Core Book, a dozen others, and that is it. Not necessarily PFS.
c) Gameplay
In the wold they have 2 DM per "adventure". I don't like that. But I think we should have a series of sprints instead of a big marathon. Small modules that last for 2-3 months instead of campaigns that takes years.
And between each "episode" a change of group and DM.
d) Special Rules
- No crafting. The adventurers are Adventurers, not artisans. Only works to break the WBL if you ask me.
- No experience, leveling "offline". Your character exists in every level at the same time. Today you can play a Level 1 episode, next a Level 7, next a Level 3. Not constrain the characters to a "fixed" level.
- Fixed WBL. At the start of each "episode" you character has the same level, and WBL, that the rest. You "reset" your equipment every "episode".
- You can "rebuild" your character between episodes.
- Only "base" items. No "special/maximized/crafted/one-of-a-kind" items.
- Downtime don't affect WBL. Many people wants Downtime to break the WBL. If it is for Roleplay only purposes, that's great!
- No "in-Game" Leadership feat. Only for Role Play purposes. your cohort's and followers can't go with you into the episodes (but they can go in their own episodes) nor can they craft things for you.
In fact, leadership is a "Free" feat for all characters, but it can't be used "in game" or to break WBL, similar to Downtime rules.
e) Campaign Setting
- Golarion, I would think. But what time? What has happened? Before Rise of the Runelords? Has some AP happened already?
What do you think?

I was forgetting:
f) Character Creation
- Point buy. I would say 25.
- 2 Traits, but should be tied to background.
- Core races only (?)

I like what you have proposed. I agree that a limited set is probably best. I will need to think on point e. One thing to consider is, do books count as a whole slot if only part of it is used? The two main books this might apply to is Ultimate Combat and Unleashed. I also agree that one GM per adventure is best.

Liberty's Edge

I think we can choose if only part of a book will be used.
That Unleashed book seems to be causing a lot of waves. I will need to buy one, but I am in México and will take some time for it to reach here.
Any other DM takers?
BTW: In the Wold they give "boons" to DM's. A second character or an "special" weapon. I don't think that applies here.
But what about letting you have a character from a different race (Aasimar or Tiefling for example) or Class (Psionics?)

About alignments... Good only?

Liberty's Edge

Kingmaker Exploration Map

I think we are only the two of us for now.
So...
a) Two games at the start, level 1 I guess. How many players for game?
b) Which books? Psionics?
d) Are we good with those rules?
e) Before any of the AP?
f) What about only extra races (and classes) for DM's?

I acknowledge your questions, but will need a few days to think on them. Mainly due to running Godsmouth tomorrow for my local PFS.

Sounds good. Let's see if other DM's join.
About the "rewards for Dm'ing". Do they sound good? If we post them maybe more DM's will volunteer...

This is where I am massively torn. I like the idea of rewarding our GMs, but I am concerned about something bad happening because someone runs only to get the rewards.

Liberty's Edge

1 person marked this as a favorite.
Kingmaker Exploration Map

Well, while they run it, what is the problem?
Just make sure they run an "episode", and finish it, before the reward.
It's a win-win.
