Perception vs Sirettis: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (13) + 13 = 26 New tricks? Seems like I'm not the only one to pick up a thing or two in the desert...

Perception vs Uesugi: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (6) + 13 = 19 Seeing the stoic man doing some writing these days Mr Peppers throws him a compliment "Its great to see you taking the time to record your thoughts Uesugi. Its great for the mind to release thoughts to paper. These thoughts will be safe there, waiting for you to return to them someday."

In general, Mr Peppers does also spend a fair bit of his time in his quarters on the trip, taking to the deck for a brief bit in the morning and again in the evening after the last meal of the day. Soaking in the sights, sounds, and smells of the sea. "You're starting to look like more than just a drunk boxer Gallix, becareful!" He quips as he watches his boxing matches verses the salty air.

Relaxing and clearing his mind of his arcane studies for a brief bit before diving back in. During the meat of the day he has his face in a couple of books, his journal to finalize his mission report, and his spellbook to agonize over some new spells he's finally mastered. If only I could commit all of these to memory at once, I hate having to choose!

The field... again!

Hearing the horns sound and the scores of agents begin the trip back out where it all began, he gathers his things and calls forth his own version of Yurei, but one not born to battle, one born of magic. I remember that long hot walk, I won't be making that mistake again! He hops on and rides on out, being careful to avoid trampling anyone... well anyone that isn't a Gnome. "Out of the road short stuff! Some of us have important business here!" As he thunders past a gnomish woman back to, sending up a cloud of dust as he goes by.

"Heh! Well you're definitely starting to live up to being the master of the arcane you've always claimed to be!" Gallix continues to bounce around the deck and shadow box with the air.

Back in Absalom

Gallix breathes in deeply and soaks up the atmosphere of the City at the Center of the World. "Ah! I'm finally back, Absalom! Get ready for your star to rise again!" Over the next several days, Gallix bounces in and out of the Grand Lodge, making stops at some of his favorite haunts to spread his name all over the city. When the call finally goes out for the Pathfinders to assemble on the fields outside of the city for the coming events, it's like deja vu all over again as Gallix stumbles half drunkenly out of a dive bar on a main thoroughfare near the gates.

"HAHAHA!!! What a party! You're all wonderful and beautiful people, but never forget me. I'm..." He turns and points back through the open door and a cacophony of voices shout back out at him, "THE GORGEOUS GALLIX GRANBONNE!!!"

Hearing the call...

Uesugi looks down and nods at the deep ebony coloured cloth set before him. It had taken awhile but he had finally finished it a couple of nights ago. He gently rubbed the fabric between his thumb and and index finger pleased to find such softness in this durable fabric.

As he began to fasten the cloth to the pole – careful to make sure it was taut enough – he heard the call go throughout the Grand Lodge and the Society members rushing down the halls. He remembered D. saying something about whispers telling of visiting the falling star in the sky.

'These pursuits are confusing at times.' Memories flashed back to the last pursuit that had almost ended in the destruction of Absalom and most of the world. 'While they seek knowledge. Others look to use it for their unhonourable goals.' His heart sunk remembering Lady Arodeth's sacrifice and he moved his hand to the gold chain with the brilliant yellow tourmaline pendant that he wore at all times.

"They will never forget your sacrifice Lady Arodeth. In those last moments you found great honour." Donning his tatami-do and his helmet he picked the pole with the black cloth and wrapped it in burlap. Looking outside through the small window a small exodus was making for outside of the city. Not seeing any of the others he grabbed the rest of his other equipment and joined the back of the line.

Outside of the gate

Like a parade Uesugi walks with the other Society members. He remained quiet in the long procession mindful see if could find the others. As they neared the gate it did not take too long to find or rather hear the booming voice of the barbarian shouting "THE GORGEOUS GALLIX GRANBONNE!!!" Moving through the crowd he grabbed the half drunk man. "It is early barbarian. What time did you begin drinking?" Not waiting for him to answer "In your festivities did you see any of the others? No I did not think so. Come I have an idea."

Finding room towards the middle of the crowd Uesugi takes the pole he is carrying and removes the burlap covering it. Underneath the burlap the black fabric unfurls and you see red symbols painted against the black background. Securing the sashimono to a harness on his back it easily slides in. "Call the others barbarian. Let them know the Red Arm of Absalom has come to answer the call."

"I will also take a metamagic rod of reach. A minor one, please." Sirettis offers a bank note worth three thousand gold pieces- it wasn't easy for her to carry all of this money around.

With her trades complete, she looked through the crowd of Pathfinders assembling. Her mind flashes back between the succession of monarchs and royal families the headband was imparting, and the fateful first meeting with the Pathfinders. Despite their many differences, they bonded together under one name... the Red Arm of Absalom.

It was the first time she really felt like she belonged somewhere. It made her feel at home, like she belonged somewhere. Then something caught her eye- a banner bearing a familiar symbol. Now she had a destination. Isa was already on top of it by the time she turned towards it and began navigating through the crowd..

"It looks... beautiful." Sirettis looks at it, then looks at Uesugi. "You were keeping this a secret." She smiles. "Yes, that was a good idea. Let them all know where the Red Arm stands."

"What is up?"..... *looks*..."Peculiar, but then, most westerners are. The rowdy one, for example.".

The woman in the red mask was quiet. She had been watching all the teams, taking note of each one on her clipboard as they filed in.

Would they be ready for what lay ahead? She had no idea. Whatever happened though, she knew it would be out of this world.

Cup watches, wide-eyed, as the mysterious woman in a red mask walks by with her clipboard. What's she doing here?

Then her eyes widen even more and she leaps up and down as she sees familiar faces in the crowd. She runs as fast as her little legs will take her, a dog barking at her heels and a parrot flying overhead.

"Sirettis! Sister!' She bowls into Sirettis's knees and gives her a hug, and then looks up at all her other friends. "D! Gallix! Uesugi! How was Thuvia? Did your mission go well? What did you do out there?" She's bouncing, she's so excited. "It's so good to see you all! Oh, and Pep! There you are! Tall dark and dashing as ever! Did you hear anything about where we're going? There's some sort of rumor circulating that we may be sent really far afield this time! Can you imagine?"

Thump!

A mighty dragon (that bears some passing resemblance to a small parrot) lands on Uesugi's head, and then peers down at the Samurai. "Noble steed! Are you ready for battle and glory? That is a fine banner, you bear!"

Gallix stumbles through the crowd until a strong hand reaches out and seizes him by the arm. "'Sugi!!! Good ta see ya buddy! Hold on, hold on. I'll straighten up." Gallix pats down a few pockets until he finds the one he's after. He reaches in and pulls out a small packet which he carefully opens with fumbling fingers. He pulls a small bundle of herbs from the packet and stuffs them into between his cheek and gums. He sucks on the herbs for a moment, and his vision clears and his posture straightens as the effects of the alcohol wear off. "Ah! That's better! Hey, has this happened once before?"*

Gallix follows his brother in arms into the crowd, Gallix watches curiously as the samurai removes the burlap from the end of the pole. His eyes grow wide and his mouth drops open in wonder as the banner unfurls. "Oh my...Uesugi, that's INCREDIBLE! You made that yourself?! Aw, this is the best. Alright, stand back." Gallix gets a bit of space around him as the banner rises above him. He clears his throat, then calls out in a voice loud enough to be heard over the din of the crowds around them.

"Ladies and gentlemen! Pathfinders new and old! Prepare to be amazed at the amassing of the single greatest assortment of heroes this great organization has known in all its storied history. From the far-flung corners of the world, these heroes of might and magic bring their marvelous skills to bear to cast off the shadow of evil and display the symbol of the open road wherever they may go. They are slayers of vermin both mundane and malevolent; wooers and friends to royalty; masters of the trials of time itself! I am the Gorgeous Gallix Granbonne, and I am proud to call forth my esteemed friends, THE RED ARM OF ABSALOM!!!"

Sirettis looks at the banner, flapping in the wind. One of those arms represent her. She's so entranced that she's shocked as Miss Poshkettle grabs her knees. "Oh. Miss Poshkettle. I did not see you there. It is good to see you again. I hope your travels were well."

"We went to Thuvia to help with their security. I know you will enjoy the story, I will try my best to-" Sirettis feels herself appearing to shrink a bit to match Miss Poshkettle, but Mister Gallix decides to introduce the party.

His Elven ears perk up as he rides towards the muster field No one can deny... that's our resident drunk Barbarian I hear... oh and what's that banner?

He turns his magical steed and cautiously rides towards the banner as the crowd is getting thicker. Many seem to be merchants and hawkers crowding around Sirettis. "Hello everyone! Are we ready for a party or is it just Gallix getting people riled up again?"

He dismounts carefully I should really take the time to properly ride one of these things... He sweeps back his cloak and takes down his pack from his glowing horse smiling as he does. "Oh hey there Miss Cup, Zarta let you out of the library orgy early? I'm not sure how you work for that woman.. the stories I hear!"

He goes around the group to take a look and greet them, curious to see anything new that may stick out magically. His glowing eyes linger especially on Sirettis's new headband and rod. "Woah now, what do you have there Sirettis! Very nice choices!"

Cup grins. "I've been all over the place. They started me out in Varisia on what looked to be a boring a tax collecting mission, but it turned out to be a town full of gruesome monsters and a hideous cult, so I got lots of excitement! Then I went to Minata, where we visited a Wayang only community... that had been invaded by monsters and a hideous cult! Finally I got to Lastwall, and then Belkzen, where there were monsters but no hideous cult, just a nice dragon that loves tea." She smiles up at Pep. "No orgies, alas. They would have been a nice change of pace!"

She stands on tiptoe as she looks over at the huge platform that is being constructed. "Whatever this is... They've put some money into it, haven't they?"

5. 4. 3. 2. 1. BLASTOFF!

The Society's Master of Spells, Sorrina Westyr, looks up with approval upon the 30 foot platform the society is erecting around the base of the Spire of Nex. Her slate-gray skin seems to blend into the stonework behind her, but her manner is lively. She grins as she addresses the unkempt beggar beside her. ”See, Drandle, we were ready in time. You owe me a beer.”

The old Venture Captain titters. “Heh. You’re not away from the spire yet. We’ll see.”

“So we will.” Sorrina nods, then waves at the assembling crowd. “Pathfinders—welcome and well timed. Please, make your ways to the designated safe areas quickly and carefully, and please mind the wards. Try to keep the paths clear, as we have some very delicate equipment coming through. I have some amazing discoveries to share in just a few more moments.”

Meanwhile in the crowd, the aura of excitement continues to build. Rumors are flying everywhere as Pathfinders ask each other, “What’s this all about?”

Ironfang Invasion | Loot/Provisions | Combat Map

Starlight brightens the grassy plain surrounding the immense Spire of Nex. Overhead, a comet lazily streaks across the night sky. Heavily armed patrols guard the perimeter, and the shadow of great wings occasionally blots out the stars. Sharp flashes of amethyst light, quick shouts, and chanting briefly periodically rise above the waiting crowd’s chatter as spellcasters hurriedly construct and maintain crackling wards. These efforts revolve around a thirty-foot-tall upright gleaming metal ring constructed at the Spire’s base.

You might hear rumors of the Society’s latest activities related to this gathering.

Diplomacy (Gather Information)

DC 12+:
Absalom is all abuzz with numerous and colorful tales about the sudden appearance of a new light in the night sky. Fortunetellers and doomsayers crowd the streets, shouting stories and warnings of what this portends.

DC 17+:
Messengers have been arriving in the Grand Lodge from around the Inner Sea with tales of strange gateways appearing around the world. Scholars have attended closed-door meetings with Master of Spells Sorrina Westyr to discuss this phenomenon as well as a sudden upheaval in the Elemental Planes.

DC 22+:
An ambassador from the elves of Kyonin met with members of the Decemvirate. Shortly afterward, the Society’s leaders commissioned scribes to copy a number of elven scrolls concerning the solar system and interplanetary travel.

DC 27+:
The Society has gathered a number of rare Numerian relics related to survival in airless environments. Additionally, the Society recently recovered fragments from a broken aiudara (also known as an elf gate) and shipped them to the Cairnlands north of Absalom.

Knowledge (Arcana) or Knowledge (History)

DC 10+:
The Spire of Nex is a mile-high column of smooth grey stone a few hours north of Absalom. The Archmage Nex constructed the Spire during his unsuccessful siege of Absalom in 166 AR

DC 20+:
The Spire has no obvious entrances on any surface, but is said to have contained Nex’s armies. The building seems to bend both space and magic around itself.

You might know more about the new comet in the sky.

Knowledge (Geography) or Profession (Astronomer)

DC 10+:
A new comet appeared several months ago. It does not match any known comets, and its trajectory seems highly irregular.

DC 15+:
The comet recently traveled past Akiton, and it should travel past Golarion within the next 24 hours. Initial observations showed it was rotating slowly, but it has now stopped spinning altogether.

DC 20+:
The comet is venting a tremendous amount of air, rather than the ice crystals and water vapor normally associated with such objects. A shallow atmosphere has formed around the celestial body.

DC 25+:
The comet is actually an asteroid known as Aucturn’s Tear, a piece of the Diaspora asteroid belt. Aucturn’s Tear passes through the solar system every 56 years, but according to records and eyewitnesses, it has never shone so brightly before.

A tall elven man with two studded emerald earrings approaches your group. He is followed by a short, stocky halfling dragging a small cart in which you see stacks of small rucksacks. You notice other people moving around the group that are also followed by an adolescent with a cart.

”Well met, I have been tasked by the Venture-Officers to provide magical assistance on your trip outside of Golarion’s atmosphere and into a low-gravity environment."

He waits for a moment to let the news sink in.

"Yes, yes, don't look so surprised. The comet! I won't be joining you there," he says with a snicker. "But! I can protect you from environmental temperature extremes, the vacuum of space, and damage dealt by radioactivity. I wouldn't plan on leaving Golarion without it, nor should you."

"It lasts for the better part of the day, and I can cast it on each of you. The faction leaders have agreed that together they will pay for the costs. Of course, they will find a way to make you pay for it in the end, but you first need to survive on the comet... Which should prove to be easy for The Red Arm of Absalom, I trust?” He eyes the banner.

He reaches into his spell component pouch "So, what do you say? Who wants it?"

I strongly advise you to make use of the spell. This special spell will cost you 1 prestige point and lasts 11 hours in-game time, starting in act 2 (which starts tomorrow)

Later, the elf takes one of the small sacks from the halfling. ”In addition, the Society has put together caches of supplies to help Pathfinders trapped in hostile conditions make it back in one piece.” He hands over the rucksack.

Each of you receive two pouches of air crystals, a potion of endure elements, and one snapleaf.

Air crystals:
These unpleasant-tasting, alchemically grown crystals release breathable air when chewed. A pouch of air crystals provides 1 minute of breathable air. Placing air crystals in your mouth takes a standard action; chewing them each round is a free action. Any attempt to speak while chewing air crystals negates any remaining duration.

Snapleaf:
This crystalline carving looks like a hand-sized tree leaf. It is usually worn around the neck on a strap so it is within easy reach, but can be affixed to a belt or clothing just like a badge. Activating a snapleaf is an immediate action and gives the bearer the benefits of feather fall and invisibility. The duration of the two effects work independently; ending one early does not affect the other. The item cannot be activated to provide just one of these two effects; they are always activated simultaneously.

Lots going on here, but there's (already) a time crunch since Part 1 is only going to last a single day. And.. GO!

Woohoo! Here we go!

Gallix snaps out of his revelry when he notices the rest of the Red Arm gang has assembled, and especially noting that Cup has suddenly reappeared, her arms wrapped around Sirettis's legs. "Hey! Good to see you again, Cup! You and Longjing the Mighty ready to join up for more adventures with the Red Arm of Absalom? Excellent! Let's see what's going on..."

His attention turns toward the Spire and starts asking around to see if anyone knows what's going on with all the preparations.

Cup ducks through the crowd, asking questions! She tugs on people's jackets, and jumps up and down. 'Um, excuse me... Do you know what's happening here?' Finally, she sees a short and friendly face in the form of the Society's most famous "Janira! What's happening here?"

She pulls out one of her trusty Pathfinder Chronicles to consult her notes, and expends a charge of her Kreighton's Perusal wand.

Everyone can flip all the spoilers. There's got to be some reasons to keep a librarian around, right?

She looks at everyone with great concern. "I think we all better take this fine vendor up on his offer of the spell. Sign me up, please!" As she receives the supplies, she gets more and more excited. "Look at this great stuff!"

"The headband was designed to help me recall more information. Right now it is explaining the history of monarchs in the areas around Absalom, and what embarrassing activities they performed." She looks at the rod. "This rod should help me with some of my magic- the fight in Saringfallow and the raid in Thuvia would have gone better if I could have reached my targets."

Sirettis listens to Miss Poshkettle and her explanations about what's going on. "The elven nation of Kyonin have learned much about the realm above us. Some of my masters thought the stars were demons, and the sun chased them off every day." Many explanations are often simplified forms of truth, so who was she to argue?

"The Spire of Nex contains Nex's armies... how do they fit within the spire? I doubt you can even enter it without magical assistance. We'll need it to get on the comet, won't we?" With no real geological background, Sirettis listens to Miss Poshkettle's explanation of Aucturn’s Tear and its many irregularities.

"I know with the rest of the Red Arm, we are ready for whatever comes forth."

Uesugi listens while Madame Poshkettle relays everything she has heard remaining quiet until she finally comes to a stop. He only nods when the barbarian's face lights up at the thought of 'spreading' their fame to the stars.

'Even with what we face here and those that spread dishonour the lords of the Society have chosen us to explore a star. We would better to stay here and punish the dishonourable Aspis.'

"I will await to hear more. They have given us little and as usual will expect a lot. Provide me with whatever aid you can bestow upon me vendor."

He lets the elf protect him with the abjurations and takes the small sack from the halfling.

Mr Peppers watches as the Elf goes through his verbal and somatic components and casts the spell over everyone. Take 10 on Spellcraft for a 26 He smiles as all the indicators click into place "Of course I've heard of that, its just something I've yet to encounter outside of the classroom. Do you know yet much about what we're actually going to encounter?"

I'm still pondering buying some consumables but I need to make sure I have enough PP to send space jumpers to recover my body if I die up there, anyone know off hand what that with a raise dead runs?... I'm leaning towards a scroll for 2PP with a few defensive spells. I'm also leaning on swapping fireball out for lightning bolt to diversify my elemental damage type since I do have scorching ray available. We need to find more arcane scrolls to add to my spellbook!!

Edit: Yes 'Sugi he did, but seeing how he's casting a level 5 spell and he's not a gnome, Mr Peppers would let that slide :)

Sorrina Westyr, the Pathfinder Society's returning Master of Spells, hurriedly concludes her conversation with Drandle Dreng before stepping onto the platform in front of a giant metal ring the Society has constructed. The starlight glimmers in her crystalline white hair, though her obsidian oread features are visible only in flashes from the nearby glowing wards.

“I thank you all for traveling here on such short notice, Pathfinders. A unique opportunity has come to us from the stars.” She gestures gracefully to the comet trailing gas in the sky above her head. “The asteroid Aucturn's Tear quietly travels our solar system once every fifty-six years. For the first time it now flares with brilliance. We have learned this phenomenon is the work of an entity trapped on Aucturn's Tear and, whatever this being is, it is calling out for help. We do not know its intentions, yet it is in our interest to learn more. If it is benevolent, it may prove a powerful ally and friend to the Society if we can free it. If it is malevolent, then we will do what we can to ensure it stays sealed away where it can do no harm.”

She casts a spell, briefly creating an image of Golarian’s solar system, and the asteroid’s trajectory within it.

“As it approaches planets, the entity has opened gateways in magic-dense regions, as if calling out to powerful champions that might come to its aid. Based on our calculations, the first of these gateways on Golarion should appear in a matter of minutes, and we have gathered in this magically infused site to draw the portal here and stabilize it, allowing us to travel to the asteroid ourselves. Our observations show billowing clouds pouring out from three locations on Aucturn's Tear. These both create a livable environment we can navigate as well as provide three entrances to the asteroid's interior so that we can find the source of these events.” Red arrows appear at each entrance as the image keeps focusing closer and closer to the asteroid itself. “The first entrance is at the base of an enormous crater, where there are monumental fortifications— likely making that the most difficult approach. The second plume is coming from the remnants of a frozen fortress, which could contain incredible secrets in its own right. The third plume is coming from the sunward side of the comet and is issuing from a number of lava tubes. Our observers also spotted the wreck of a metal craft near there.”

Sorrina pauses a moment, letting the significance of all of these observations sink in, and then continues.

“This will be an unusual environment, so prepare for unusual conditions: extreme temperatures, low-gravity, and airless pockets are likely. Everyone should have received a package of supplies to assist in managing these hazards. While the gateway should remain stable, a contingent of conjurers is staying here to monitor it, and additional teams are on standby to provide escape routes to extradimensional shelters in case of complications. Perhaps most importantly, we've ringed this area with defenses to prevent any outside interference with this expedition, and the bronze dragon Ahelvetinn has agreed to keep watch in case any evil attempts to escape through the gateway into Golarion.”

The Spire of Nex begins to hum, the vibrations creating a stomach-churning resonance as a pinpoint of light appears in the center of the portal ring and begins to grow.

Sorrina Westyr shouts to be heard over the deafening noise, “It's beginning! Be ready to move through and split into teams to investigate each of the three possible approaches. Once we're inside we can regroup and compare notes.”

The metal of the portal ring incandesces, and a blast of freezing air pours out as the gateway opens. The place beyond is a field of jagged grey stone, and once several dozen Pathfinders step through, the earth itself springs to life in the form of countless elemental creatures that swarm toward the gate. From further in, a terrible draconic roar accompanies the appearance of a flight of crystalline dragons sweeping out from the lip of a crater.

“Secure the gate! Do not let any of them through!” Westyr shouts as she sends a lance of swirling black and white energy into one of the wyrms, sending it careening end over end as the forces meet.

No sooner had Westyr's lance plunged deep through a fire elemental's chest than another duo of rock solid beings dash directly towards you. Pathfinders continue to fight back the swarms of creatures, and an enormous winged demon, seemingly carved from the earth, swoops down from behind the gate - and from behind you.

"በሩ ደህንነቱ ወደ ከነነፍሱ አቁም!"

"Stop the intruders, secure the gate!"

Frantically shouting at each other, the two elementals raise their fists in your direction!

Cup recalls that the gargoyle doesn't have any noteworthy weaknesses or special attacks, but when it does attack, it uses its claws, teeth, and horns. She's so satisfied with the sheer vastness of her knowledge and understanding that she decides to break into song and dance!

"Well," Gallix says as he tilts his head back and further, cracking his neck, "Looks like it's time to go to work." He hands quickly go up into their defensive positions and he begins ducking and weaving, throwing fake jabs and shifting toward his opponent to throw it off its defenses. He feigns a right hook, but suddenly the elemental's fist slams into the back of his head. "Hey! How'd you get back there?" Turning on the spot, he swoops beneath a second swinging arm and returns with three! rapid jabs!

Activate outslug style. 5ft step, gain +1 dodge bonus to AC and +1 damage with cestus. Brawler's flurry, plus my shiny new iterative attack for three attacks with the cestus. Combat expertise. AC20 this round.

D blasts the gargoyle with a freshly empowered ball of sand, which accelerates even easier given the low gravity. Mr. Peppers follows it up with two flaming rays directed at the same gargoyle, but the pair flies off into space and blows apart a meteor, unleashing a hail of stone upon the battlefield.

Gallix turns and clobbers the red-fisted elementals with two solid punches, the first across the cheek and the second under its jaw. The lumbering elemental wavers on its feet, but fights on!
