"All you need to do for these stones to work is for them to hit something hard, or have something hit them. They should go off if a door closes on them, or if we have them on the outside of the door and when it opens it bumps it up against something hard. I think the most difficult part is a way to hold the stone in a position that will get struck. Either something sticky or we can gouge out a small hole in the wood to fit the stone into partially to hold it."

Mr Peppers then goes about showing Bishop what he thinks may work and hopes that Bishop's knowledge of disabling traps can put the entire thing together.

Yup, all exterior doors are locked. So far, I see the thunderstone trap on that one door. Are there others you wanted the stones on? Go ahead and add them to the map.

Mr. Peppers recognizes the mass of spiders as nonmagical and non-poisonous, but recalls that similar swarms can be quite alarming or distracting if encountered.

After hours of thorough preparations, trap setting, barricading, and locking, you get into position as you await the arrival of the agents. The sun sets and darkness begins to fall in the warehouse, and it's eerily quiet. A single drop of water falls from a pipe running through the warehouse. Wind blows against the wooden structure, rattling the interior.

As Mr. Peppers calmly stands above a few crates, he hears the main loading door at the front of the warehouse being tested.

A gruff voice is heard through the door as someone presses on it. "Aye, it's locked. As it should be. Where did I put those damn keys! BORIS! Get yer ass over here. Do ya have 'em!?"

A goofy, tiny voice nervously returns an answer as quickly as he can, "S-s-sir. Yes, yes I do, uh huh." You can hear the jingling of keys.

At the same time, you hear footsteps on the roof. Thud. Thud. Thud. Thud. Was it two? Was it four? It's hard to tell, but it certainly seems like too many footsteps for just one person. A hint of torchlight peeks into the warehouse from the skylight.

You hear the key entering the lock and turning, clicking as it opens. The duo try to push the door but notice it's stuck. "What the hell? WHO'S IN THERE?!" The angry one says in confusion, followed by nothing but silence.

...

...

The silence is broken when he charges at the door with a loud warcry, obliterating it into pieces of metal and wood, but also injuring himself in the process.

"You okay, boss?!"

A tall, bald human with gigantic biceps wears a brown robe and is accompanied by a shorter bowman with elven features. The bowman holds a torch as the two walk in.

Sir Biceps stretches his arms out, a little bloodied from his charge. "Ugh. Who the hell put that there?! Boris, get over here and see who's here. Go on! GET!" He commands the bowman to look around, intimidating him with his fist.

The bowman spots a piece of Mr. Peppers robe peeking through the crates. His surprise nearly causes him to drop his torch. "S-s-s-s-s-Sir.. Sir.. T-T-There's.."

"What are ya mumbling about!? Stop f@*#in' around!"

Just as they're arguing, the skylight window opens above, and two more agents come rappeling down through it.

"Hmph. Took ya long enough. Way to be some f$%&in show offs."

One of them is armed with a curved sword, the other holds a variety of scrolls on his back - so many scrolls that the edges of the paper peek out of the top of his backpack.

"Understandable Captain that you might think the tale is a little too hard to believe I was thinking the same thing when we were hired to clean up this mess. I can see we are both delaying each other in coming to an agreement, but the spider was being used by Laszo the Leper for one of his experiments in the sewers. That's why we have to capture it alive. The spider's poison is some missing ingredient for the crazed man. We capture the spider we get paid easy as that. Laszo could care less if the spider's brood gets loose but the brood mother he needs and dead won't work for him. I can give you and your unit 50 gold to let us do our job. Not much to tell you. They didn't give us the details on why he wants it. They said we got a job we said we need work. We're more concerned with not getting killed trying to trap this spider.

The reason they are there is because they were asked to check on the warehouse. They can say when got here that they were ambushed and thrown into the cage. I could stand in the cage amd prepare a spell to cast on them. Maybe force them to fight one another for a time."

Mr Peppers nods with some agreement to Bishop's idea. Then again with D's straight forward strategy. "If you want to use yourself as bait Bishop I'm not going to try to stop you. I'll try to occupy any spell casters if they appear to have one. Sirettis, keep that jar of spiders handy and I'll keep 1 thunderstone, that leaves 1 more not already in play. We also found a couple of acids down with Laszo." As he points to a loot sack.

"Let me also say how happy I was when you didn't try to link us in a friendly manner to that lesion known as Laszo. I don't want my name or face sullied in that manner."

"Had the Kortos guards taken the bribe, I would not have elaborated." Sirettis takes the jar of spiders. "But he seemed to have some source of moral right, so I appealed to his senses while avoiding implicating or exposing us." She peers at the spiders. "Difficult but successful."

"Bishop will distract them long enough to cage them, and I will try to harass them with slumber." She slowly climbs atop the boxes. "At worst, I will try to assist you in melee, but I hope it doesn't come down to that."

Nods to Mr. Peppers "The man was vile but I figured adding his name would give us more credence to the story we were spinning. Alright Begrilda your volunteering makes for a more plausible story. At first glance I wouldn't take you to be dangerous at all so I doubt these agents will either.

From where they are likely to come from is what is left of the main doors, the guardroom or loading dock. I'll doubt they'll come in through the roof. Let's arrange the cage so the door opens towards the secret door that we put that wizard lock oil on. Everyone else find a good spot to hide in. We'll need a signal when to act. As far as targets I think you all have said who'll you'll be targeting. I'll likely act last so that I take them unaware."

Bishop enlists the help of the others as the move the cage towards the center of the room with the cage door opening in the direction of northern secret door. Making sure to leave it unlocked he leads Begrilda inside. "Whatever aid your deity can provide you prepare it now. Let the men gather in closer so that we can spring the trap on them without fear that any of them get away. I will find myself in a dark place closer to the front doors. Fabricate a worthy story to pull them in you know they may not believe you which is fine we just need to catch them unprepared. Plus your vision will aid you in case there are others moving in the dark.

There is a saying in Garund. The jackal can never pass on easy prey. They will move to you because they will seek answers and only you can give them that. What fear is there in a dwarven maid that is sparcely armed. When you feel they are close enough make your move. That will be our signal."

Mr Peppers assists with moving the cage for Ms Hammerhild. Poor girl, I really think Gallix scrambled her brain to try this foolishness.

"Lets get at least a single line of crates down along the front warehouse door, shouldn't be too hard. It keeps our rouse going and should slow down anyone trying to run out that direction once they're inside."

I set up the boxes assuming we had time to do this. Also, Mr Pepper's position is likely 10' or so elevated? Assuming the crates are stacked that high.

Upon completion Mr Peppers bids everyone good luck and dobs his sweaty brow with his handkerchief, and assumes his crows nest position. I hope this goes as smoothly as we expect...

"Alright D. you come with me in case they come from the top we should have eyes there too. Now we wait for Begrilda's signal."

Bishop blends into the shadows and waits for the sound of the agents.

GM:
Mr Peppers casts open/close to close the latch on the 'human cage' then casts ghost sound to make it sound like a swarm of spiders is crawling and scratching to get out of the crates nearby.

That moment when you've written your entire post and accidentally press the back button on your mouse. !@#$

About half an hour after the Kortos agents depart the warehouse, two people approach the smashed door in front and examine the crates, one of them with a glowing object on her armor that brightens the immediate area.

"Baws, wouldya look at this? I knew sumthin' was goin' on here, but this... This is sumthin' else!" A dorky sounding human can be heard.

A more intelligent and bloodthirsty sounding woman responds, "Yes, I can see that, and whoever we find in here is certainly going to die! Die, die, die! For the Consortium!" She cackles heartily.

The two walk away from the main entrance, looking for a more accessible option.

As that's going on, the sound of muffled voices is heard towards the loading dock, followed by a few firm pushes. The crates above the trap door rattle around a few times before everything is still.

Mr. Peppers, that's fine, and I assume all of you have extinguished your light sources so as to maintain your cover?

"Thank you for your bravery, Begrilda." Sirettis hesitates as Begrilda enters the cage. "I am...not sure I would want to be caged."

Caged again...no. That woman is more brave than I thought. Her religion grants her confidence I do not fathom.
