I have no idea what we should buy. Disguise kits? Splash weapons? More adamantine gear? Potions of expeditious retreat?

![]() |

Mr Peppers is always partial to scrolls and potions usually... and wands, can never have too many wands!
Buff scrolls are nice... false life, prot arrows, pots of retreat, invis, see invis. Anything to avoid/remove capture. Non lethal aoe type effects?
Another adamantine wep wouldn't be terrible maybe? Can't deactivate the altar just distract it.

![]() |

Another Adamantine weapon will run us about 3000 gp. But whomever is holding the elixir will be bait and will probably be grabbed. We'll have to destroy it after defeating the guards. It probably resists magic, so another adamantine weapon will help damage it.
We are able to get a surprise round on the guards because they recognize us as friendly, so disguise kits may not be needed. Maybe we instead want to knock them asleep? A scroll of deep slumber may work wonders here at 375 gp.

GM Hmm |

Hey gang... How long do you think you need to put together a shopping list? Why don't we have a couple people propose something and you all make a vote? Do you think you can decide by noon, Tuesday? I'd love to move you into the heist.
Hmm

![]() |

I like the idea of one more adamantine weapon, so let's get that. The remainder can be spent on a scroll of deep slumber?

![]() |

Woah noon on Tuesday (Looks at calendar and clock...) That's in 2 hours for me!
If its possibly a potion of fly would be good for escaping with the vial. I don't remember the altar having anything that can deal with flying. That would be 750g. Adamantine weps are what 2k gold or so? Maybe I should just look at that list Hmm so kindly provided.
*Edit: Oh, adamantine weps are 3k now... did they used to be 2k in 3.5 edition maybe? That would make things easy on deciding what to spend $$ on!

![]() |

Yeah, this could be a thing we spend a lot of time deciding on. I'll propose something here and we can modify it. Once it's Tuesday we can just use this list?
- Wand of Dancing Lights (375) I can use this to mess with signals.
- Scroll of Haste (375) Mr. Peppers and Silas can use this.
- Scroll of Deep Slumber (375) Mr Peppers, Silas and Sirettis can use this.
- Masterwork Saps (301 apiece) Up to 6 for each of us?
- Adamantine ammunition would be cheaper. Can D pick his favorite ranged weapon and select ammo for it?
Sirettis will disable Nadini.
Silas will disable security.
Gallix will hold the vial and distract the altar.
Uesugi will smash the altar.
Mr. Peppers will create a getaway.
D can help smash the altar and maybe drop some force lightning and be our lookout.
Sounds good?

![]() |

I won't have access to new powers/an energy attack, until lvl 7.
I wonder, how heavy is this altar? :)

![]() |

I think we go with:
wand of expeditious retreat
potion of heroism, bears endurance, bulls strength
something that allows us to create a believable illusion
deep slumber scroll

![]() |

Wand or scrolls of silent image could go far. Putting glowing vials on our enemies at 400ft away would help keep us safe as we destroy the altar, or just send it off on wild goose chases vs halfling rogues.
Scrolls would be a mere 25g each or a wand 750g. Wands are superior but obviously more pricey.
A wand of retreat is nice but it would be more practical to have potions so everyone can use them as needed instead of a line forming at a spellcaster.

![]() |

So I moved the list to the SOS player handout. I also added a basic plan on the bottom. Please edit the list as you see fit.
When we're ready to move along, we can just start from the top and keep buying until we run out of money.
Here's the stuff that is ambiguous or argued:
Masterwork Saps (301 apiece) Up to 6 for each of us?
Wand of Expeditious retreat
Wand or Scroll of Silent Image
Adamantine ammunition would be cheaper. Can D pick his favorite ranged weapon and select ammo for it?

![]() |

I may have more success, dmg output wise, with my kinetic blast, over a light crossbow.

GM Hmm |

Alright, it sounds like you have a plan. I'll get you started, but Wednesday is crashing on me faster than normal this week. It may not be Thursday until this heist gets going in earnest.
Why don't you put yourselves on Slide Three from where you are approaching? The cliffs are 100 feet up and the convoy is approaching the intersection.

![]() |

Happy Hump Day people. Brr, frosty morning here. Around 30 when I got up. Last frost I see in the forecast though, yesterday morning I was driving to work in flurries. Hopefully winter is now deceased for another 6-7 months.

![]() |

It is beautiful here. Cool and lovely. Also, I am finally off my stupid inhaler that was making me drunk and loopy (but also allowing me to breathe through my bronchitis.) After being sick (and occasionally stoned on prescription meds) for two full weeks, I am finally starting to feel human again.
I even managed the two mile walk into work today for the first time in... two weeks! I'm a little fatigued, but I made it. Go, me!

Now, let's betray everyone's trust already!

This morning lasted longer than the average Wednesday morning.
It was chilly at first, then got pleasantly Sunny lateron.
But then arrived the moment that my vacation has started....
Oh, by the way...
Uesugi on cafeïne

"What's it take for a girl to get some cricket and dragonfly marmalade with this awful dry toast?! Come on!"

GM Hmm |

Okay, I have Mr. Peppers and Silas in Eye on the Sky mode, planning to HALO jump from the cliffs. I have Gallix coming in from the ruins to the north. Sirettis of course is already situated with the main transport, and feeling guiltier by the second. What about the rest of you? Are you... on the cliffs? Following Gallix? Coming in from the ravine to the east of the convoy? Please place yourselves on the slide and post where you are and what you are doing.
Hmm

![]() |

Poor ninja icons, they already look sad, as if knowing the beatdown that will ensue upon them :P

![]() |

Could Mr Peppers gather a rough idea on the typical weapons the caravan guards used? Swords and crossbows, bows? Mostly I'm looking for how stocked they are with ranged weapons.. short ranged stuff like javelins or long ranged stuff like xbows and short/long bows I guess for prot arrows :)
I can't wait to have more available spell slots eesh. I'm going to be a scroll and wand whore without them.

![]() |

Thirsty Thursday people! Breakfast has been et and tea has been drank. I'm ready to roll! Who's with me!!
FYI: It snowed here last night... was very much not impressed when I got up for work and it was white outside.

Crossbows, kukris and longswords. They have crossbows out first.
How far away can you do your magical analysis schtick?

![]() |

See Magic (Su): The arcanist can see magical auras. If she expends 1 point from her arcane reservoir, for 1 minute she instantly recognizes magic item auras and spell effects (as per detect magic). During this time, she is treated as if she had studied each aura for 3 rounds, and she treats her Knowledge (arcana) check as if she had rolled a 15 on the d20. In addition, if she touches a magic item during this time, she can immediately identify its properties using Spellcraft without needing to spend 3 rounds examining the object. If an enemy possesses the object, the arcanist must first succeed at a melee touch attack in order to touch the item.
Says as detect magic so I guess 60'?

GM Hmm |

So, you cannot see any magical gear on the guards currently then.
Thanks.
Hmm

GM Hmm |

I've added a bot me spoiler, for GM convenience.
Pretty straight forward.
Thank you, D! Very thoughtful of you.

![]() |

Hey all back at work.
Wouldn't it be easier for Gallix and myself to be part of the convoy guard we trained with them after all it makes sense we would move with them.
Items that we were given and who has them:
Adamantine Morningstar (Uesugi)
Eyes of Eagle (Peppers?)
Horn of Fog (Silas/Peppers/Gallix?)
Vest of Escape (Silas seems obvious)
Prior to the showdown I would give Silas my wand of enlarge he seems to be on the ground.
Hmm Can we confirm what purchases that were indicated in the player notes were able to be bought?

![]() |

I already have an eyes of the eagle :) I would go with Silas or Gallix since they can deal with traps?
The fog horn probably someone in melee for getting out easier, short range item.
**EDIT: Ok so I copied the feather fall to my spellbook, I auto succeed on the spellcraft check. Wand of mage armor will be active as well as using my protection from arrows scroll on myself. I will keep message up on everyone that is within range, up to 5 targets, which is 150ft, 50mins.

GM Hmm |

I would put the Vest of Escape on Gallix. You need two people disabling and he has a rank in disable device.
Silas is on the cliff, but could join you shortly.
It would be easier if you were part of the elite guard on the main Convoy, but Javaro did not assign you there 'cause that's what the scenario says. Instead, you two are treated as mobile scouts who move between formations looking for trouble.
Hmm

![]() |

Silas should have the horn of fog.
I'll assume that extra equipment was purchased:
Total is 2550.
I'll add 2 potions of Expeditious Retreat (100gp)
I'll forego the sap and would think Gallix would do the same. We can use our weapons as non-lethal if need be.

![]() |

Oh well shoot... if we have that much left over I'll add in more scrolls!!
How about 5x false life scrolls for 750g for you all on the ground? That would leave us with 100g remaining of the 3500g.

![]() |

Was I supposed to open up against Nadini? Or was someone else suppose to open up and I take advantage of the confusion?

GM Hmm |

This is your show, guys. So far, as far as I can tell, you're just positioning before someone makes the first strike. What do you think will work, Sirettis?
Hmm

![]() |

Yeah, I'm holding off to see who's going to initiate, then I think I get up close and start looking for the secret entrance.

![]() |

Ha! I'm just the control tower for now so I'm not the one who's going to initiate. An opening sleepy hex would probably be best on Nadini and hope she fails the save!
Also are we to assume we have the above scrolls/potions? If so then you all should roll for your temp hp. Sirettis can use the scrolls on you all on the ground and I can have cast it on Silas. 3hrs, 1d10+3 temp hp.
Oh, I just noticed those likely won't stack with your normal temp hp D?

GM Hmm |

Hmm, how heavy is the altar?
And, are there any big boulders in sight?
The altar that you saw in the workshop is large and made out of stone. I don't know it's weight, so I'm going to rule that it is the weight of a full grown troll -- 1000 pounds.
Are there big boulders is sight? Sure. How are you going to get them into the transport?
Hmm

![]() |

Sounds like Uesugi laid out a good plan:
- Uesugi leads the dogs away.
- Silas comes out of hiding and lures the guards.
- Gallix attacks the guards.
- SIrettis disables Nadini, then helps fight the other guards.
So once the guards move towards Silas let's get started!

![]() |

![]() |

Peppers, i saw your post about temp HP.
They'd overlap. Highest of the two bonuses, would be my impression.

![]() |

Ok D. I guess the question is: is it worth it to you vs say applying it to Me :) I have a strong feeling I'm not going to be able to sit up here pretty without getting my hands dirty. But hopefully I'm wrong!

![]() |

No, you have Silas to get his hands dirty, so you yourself can stay back and use your controlling magics.
Edit about boulders for Hmm:
I could use boulders to throw at my enemies, for show. :)

GM Hmm |

Congratulations! In the four groups that I have GMed, you are the first to manage to prevent Nadini from sending her signal to the sky. No one ever thinks to take her out first, and she has a hellaciously good initiative bonus.
GM Hmm bows to Mr. Peppers! Your build just paid off BIG!

I was just happy to successfully use that ability I've had since level 4 on someone other than Cup. If I could make that WoW felhound counterspell noise I totally would.

Applauds Mr. Peppers! Well done you pointy eared bookworm!

![]() |

I'm going to make the assumption that his bolt went through my Prot arrows? Or no, wasn't sure you noticed I applied it with a scroll earlier. And did he have to reload that crossbow or did it seem to fire like a repeating maybe?
Also, if D isn't interested in having his false life added then Mr Peppers will claim it as his own :)

GM Hmm |

I missed the protection from arrows, Mr. Preppers. I'll edit my post again!
Shifty eyes
Or just note that it was correct all along... Muahahahahaha.
EDIT: Double-checked the spell. Yeah, the magical bolt went right through your protection.
They had loaded crossbows ready to fire.
