I will try to get D's pic posted in a bit for all of you.
Happy Thursday!

Silas Vincent

Hmm, what mystical stick are you referring to, Sugi? I thought we'd only purchased a few scrolls and potions (according to our notes document?)
Uesugi Hideyoshi

my wand of enlarge I purchased this for my character prior to the campaign and wrote that I gave it to Silas

Happy Friday ladies and gents. More warm weather today, I've got the short sleeves and light jacket on!
Mr. Peppers
|
Its foggy, and cool, and I woke up to take a shower to find my water wasn't working and now I wait on a plumber. Great start to my 3 day weekend.
Sirettis
|
First time I've come to the office wearing shorts. It will be cloudy this morning but the sun will show up this afternoon.
GM Red
|
It could be worse... You could be scrambling to get ready for work and then find out you can't take a shower.
By the way guys, I wanted to discuss the interim period between SOS and Cosmic Captive. CC starts on June 9th. I'm not sure how much of SOS is left, but let's say it takes another week or two. I'm off on vacation mid-May and can't post which brings us towards the end of the month by the time I get back, so I think it makes the most sense to take a hiatus for a few weeks after this. Not a lot of time to fit anything else in before CC.
Sirettis
|
I could hop in as a GM, if you need me to. I should throw my hat into the ring, even if we don't try to squeeze anything into this.
I have GMed a few PfS scenarios past level 5, but I'm used to low level stuff. Are there any high level ones you guys would be interested in playing?
GM Red
|
Sure, but would there be enough time to complete the scenario before CC? It really depends on when SOS finishes.
Mr. Peppers
|
I was under the assumption we were playing it as a regular team. I'm flexible if we wanted to try to squeeze in another quick game between or just have our characters take a bit of a vacation until CC.

yeah that halfling is going to get squashed!!!! Unless he is actually an ogre magi in disguise. That would be nice! Make it happen Hmm!

I'm down for a hiatus. Could be a fun time to just put up some RP posts of the team debriefing after these back to back missions.
Sirettis
|
Yeah, Sirettis has one hell of a journey ahead of her, especially after my next Hex. Time for a break!
Uesugi Hideyoshi
|
BREAK!!! ok sounds good May is bound to be a busy month with my current class.
Uesugi Hideyoshi

Everyone minus Silas I take it. Not sure if Cup will be lvl 5 or 6.
Cup
|
Cup's already Level 6. Slow pokes!
I just have to level her.
GM Red
|
I need to run some quick and dirty Roll20 sessions to get Silas up there!
... Unlikely to happen given my experiences with pick-up games.
However, I have a group of newbie friends who say they are interested in face-to-face Pathfinder. I'm not sure if I should introduce them to Society or just get them going in a more contiguous set of games, perhaps an AP. What do you guys think works best for beginners? These are people who have never played a tabletop RP game before.
| GM Hmm |
Where did you do your pickup games? Discord?
I actually like society as an ongoing game. The one problem with it is that if somone dies it is hard to replace them.
Maybe you could do Dragon's Demand if you want something shorter? Otherwise, Rise of the Runelords is a solid AP. It has a bit of everything.
Hmm
GM Red

I did my pickup games on the PFS Google Group and just ended up winding up with some uncooperative players. I am certain not everyone is like that, but PbP is just so much richer than the type of roleplaying that's typical in a voice game.
I ran PFS text games on Roll20 for a while too, until my group kinda fell apart. I actually enjoyed that. I just had to type quickly and have as much text prepared as I could!
What's the best way to teach them how to build a PC? Is there any FAQ/walkthrough Paizo provides for that?
Uesugi Hideyoshi
|
What about the Starter box adventure? I have it just need to look for it I can it give to you tomorrow. It's relatively short but is not a bad tutorial.
PFS I always look at as more for experienced players.
Sirettis
|
I feel like I've seen a "newbie's guide to PFS" somewhere on reddit.
Ah, here we are. It's more of a filter to help players narrow down class features until they select from a handful of classes.
I haven't seen much more than the Bare bones character creation, which kinda annoys me.
You may want to look into character creators like PC Gen or Hero Lab, so they don't have to calculate everything and they can audit their characters, but Hero Lab isn't free and PC Gen's support is all over the place.
Session 0 (aka, you talk to them) is still the best method for newbies. This is the biggest problem with Tabletop Gaming in general.
GM Red
|
Sugi that would be amazing if you could let me borrow the beginner's box. I'd really appreciate it. I want to ease this group into it so that I don't scare them off with the mechanics.
Thanks Sirettis. I do have the paid version of Hero Lab but don't expect my group to have to spend money. The reddit guide is pretty good though. I may go through that with them as well as indeed having a Session 0.
Mr. Peppers
|
Ya my buddy got started using PC Gen, well that and my help. But PC gen (or something similar) is nice that it goes through everything you need to do when you make your first toon, level up, etc. Its not perfect but its a start.
You may want to start them off with core for simplicity.
Sirettis
|
Oh yeah, DEFINITELY start them in Core. The number of options is overwhelming at first.
Gorgeous Gallix Granbonne
|
Yup I recently started playing with a couple friends who are new to PF and limited them to CRB and APG if they really felt adventurous. That helps limit options without having to stick to pretty vanilla options.
GM Red
|
Great advice all around. Thanks guys. I'll stick to Core until they get comfortable with the basic rules.

Morning guys. Didn't manage to get a post up yesterday since Uesugi and I were trying to defend our humble settlement of survivors from an axe-wielding, face-ripping monster.
By the way, Mr. Peppers, a 10 am post after a night of drinking is laudable.
| GM Hmm |
Wow. We're nearing the end of our little heist!
Uesugi, sorry that you won't get to beat up the halfling. He's not in the final battle... You only get to fight him if you attacked in Day Three, alas. Still, there will be others to fight now! Onwards!
Sirettis

You play Kingdom Death Monster? I haven't played it yet, but I'm watching a Let's Play and they just got up to this guy. He sounds super nasty!
Hopefully Sirettis can do something for the next encounter- she has a lot of mind-affecting tools for humanoids.
Mr. Peppers
|
Ha! HMM, If Mr Peppers wasn't LG he would have totally countered that Dancing lights, or at the very least sent up his own later issuing some new and entertaining orders... but alas he walks the straight and narrow...
Sirettis: I'm looking forward to your mind games, as I'm sure we're all itching for a nice little rumble. Well, maybe not me.. I'm always worried I'm gonna die off!

We sure do! Uesugi introduced me to it a few months back and it's been a lot of fun. The Lion had its own set of challenges and we lost a survivor to it, but The Butcher was just ruthless and we nearly got TPKed. Nearly. We figured out we had been pulling one too few AI cards each round and decided to conveniently restart that fight...
Sirettis
|
The LP mentioned a dreaded "Infinite Kick" where the Butcher's Kick attack may draw another Kick attack. Hang in there!
Uesugi Hideyoshi
|
ARGH!!!! Well he wasn't doing anything wrong so killing him there would have been criminal no doubt.
I'll take it out on his buddies.
Sirettis we didn't grab that card lucky for Red and our other teammates or their mouths would have fallen off. Been having a blast playing with Red still. Just hit year 6 so there is still lots to do.

Uesugi, you'd have been interested today. We went to Matsayuma castle. Aside from the impressive size of it all together, and displays with samurai armors, weapons and others, there was even a corner to try on samurai armor!
I would have tried, but those things are not tailored for tall gaijin 2 heads taller than the samurai of back then. >_>
Still a sight to see. Oh, and there were katanas in a display cabinet, where which you could test the weight of the katana, by the grip.
I've still almost 2 weeks ahead of me, but in one word: Sugoi!!
Awesome!!
Uesugi Hideyoshi
|
That would have been so cool!!! Sounds like quite a trip.
Mr. Peppers
|
Merry Monday people! Well, other than the 40 degree temps and rain. At least the weekend turned out warm and sunny.
Lets find us some Aspis to crush!
| GM Hmm |
I will give you Aspis to crush tomorrow. I had to deal with a whole bunch of behind the scenes stuff for Cosmic Captive, and that ate my day. Now that I've done that, I should be good to get you all started with a combat post in the morning.
Hmm
Mr. Peppers

Terrific Tuesdays to everyone! Its so terrific here that the fog and cold have decided to stay another day. At least the fish are starting to wake up I'm being told.
I think you've answered your own question D. We must be on about opposite timezones now.
| GM Hmm |
My morning. So it's 11pm your time? Ah well, it will be morning there again in just an hour, right?
Mr. Peppers
|
Ha sorry, MR Peppers is a bit of a planner.. His life is far too precious to be thrown away in a poorly planned assault!
