Kadria, I opened up another recruitment here. I knew you wanted to play to so figured I'd drop a line!

Grand Lodge

Did I answer the questions sufficiently?

I am listening to the play on youtube and trying to familiarize myself some more with the setting.

Liberty's Edge

Everyone answered their questions sufficiently and thank you for doing so. :) I'm writing up some questions for YorickRequiem's Whisper and am still eagerly anticipating the others who have put in a dot. As a reminder, we are coming up on the deadline for submissions after which I will make my selections.

Just wanted to make sure you saw my post, Kiradia.

Chance Dillinger, though Akarosi himself (and adopting his mother's surname) is (was) the son of a Skovlander revolutionary. The old refinery worker's years beneath the toxic clouds of Lockport had altered him greatly, to the point where he had to conceal himself entirely whenever venturing out into public, though the visage came in handy for the more confrontational endeavors. His son, Chance, took on a bit of the toxin as well it seems, as well as the demeanor.

He'd be an attractive lad, in his young twenties with a fit figure and bold eyes, except that in the light his flesh is almost entirely translucent. He often keeps to the dark where his face appears normal enough, with his newsie cap pulled low over his brow; and he has tattooed much of his torso to conceal the malady. But if you get within a meter or so, and the light hits him right, you see straight through to the bones beneath. As I said, an attractive lad -- from a distance.

Chance works at the Siren's Hook Distillery in the Docks District, a brewer by trade. His father, well versed in the processes of refining leviathan blood, schooled him well in matters of chemistry and alchemy. The job itself is enjoyable enough, but Chance's nightlife consists of rowdy dives and bouts in the pits--brawling until the punch-drunk stupor surpasses the alcohol. Spirits may blur the mind and the senses, but the don't ignite the blood the way a good fight does. Chance has found a way to achieve both.

((It's a quick snippet, but I got the feeling that in this case less was more. The concept for Chance is an Akarosi Leech (though I would invest in his skirmish), with a Labor background and a Stupor vice (fighting... he's a hooligan through and through).

Let me know what else you might be looking for, like if you'd prefer me to choose an ally and rival already as well!))

Liberty's Edge

Alright friends, another round of questions.

Ophelia Walker:

What did Riven do before he was killed?

How did Flint learn about Riven and decide to capture him?

You say Riven is more vengeful... but against what? or whom? Does he have a target or has he become more like a poltergeist?

How has the Walker family taken to your studies? I imagine with no small amount of argument against it. Also, what does the Walker family own or do?

Sinjin Blakely:

You've done a great job describing stuff that I can use to build a story with, just one question really about your Rival.

Veldren Burress, getting cut off for a drug addict is pretty harsh but he's obviously found a way to keep up his happen. So, why does he hold the grudge? How has he expressed it in the past?

Chance Dillinger:

I would like to see a friend and rival picked out before hand it helps connect characters to the world around them.

Now, about your characters malady. Translucent skin is... well, in this world of weird freaky stuff, that is definitely weird and freaky. How did Chance become afflicted with this change? He's tattoo'ed most of his body but if you can still see down to his bones then... are the muscles and organs translucent too? Basically, I'd like to expand this affliction more because its a very odd detail to include in this character who seems otherwise normal. Also, how did he get interested and involved in the fighting pits? Why does he like using his fists and finding oblivion in the rush of a fight?

Response for Sinjin:
That's an interesting question. I think it's probably because they were childhood friends, so Veldren felt entitled to Sinjin's assistance. It's not so much what exactly Sinjin wouldn't give him, it's the fact that Sinjin wouldn't help him when he needed help. Veldren had just been cut off by his father, and he was at a low point and went to someone he expected would help him.

In the heat of the moment it felt like a betrayal, but it was probably something that could have been fixed after they both cooled down. But both of them just stewed about it rather than discussing it and the incident got built up in their minds. So now Sinjin actively tries to avoid Veldren and Veldren bad mouths Sinjin whenever his name comes up.

Does that answer your questions?

Response for Chance:
Malista, a priestess - this is one of Chance's closest allies. She's an initiate priestess in the Church of the Ecstasy of the Flesh and also a past flame of Chance's. Though the relationship didn't work out, they've slowly regained an amicable relationship.

Eckerd, a corpse thief - Chance and Eckerd have had a rough relationship ever since Eckerd attempted to abscond with the unconscious brawler after an early pit match. As far as Eckerd could tell, Chance appeared quite dead. Chance awoke from his stupor as Eckerd was beginning his attempt at "harvesting" the supposed corpse. Chance has a vicious scar from the encounter down the center of his chest, and Eckerd is half blind from the same incident.

And Chance's malady is one he was born with. The toxins in Lockport have had fairly drastic effects on the workers there, and though Chance has never left Doskovol the toxin still must have affected his birth. In most cases he just appears pale, but direct light and the right angle can see straight through whatever we might consider "flesh". So yes, this includes muscle, organs, nerves, fatty tissue, etc. The thicker the tissue in an area, the more difficult it is to see all the way down to the bone; but where bone structure is well defined such as the face it's quite easy to see through.

The interest in fighting sprung from a childhood frequently wrought with it. This is a weird city with all manner of strange quirks, but a child with a malady such as Chance's tends to be a large target - especially one's with a bit of Skovlan heritage. What began as a necessity took on a greater role once Chance's father convinced a revolutionary friend to "teach the boy to fight."

Finally, Chance likes the oblivion because he forgets. For a bit he doesn't feel self-conscious or scrutinized, he just feels sore and awash in adrenaline. But most of all, when he does well there's accolades. For those moments following a successful bout he's a champion, and even if he loses there's a degree of respect for someone willing to endure it.

I'm going to go ahead and withdraw, just havent been hit by the necessary stroke of inspiration to get a character together :(

Have fun guys!

Take care Slipstreams!

I am excited for the end of recruitment and to see who makes it!

-is definitely not excited, watching the boards, constantly-

Liberty's Edge

Recruitment is now closed.

Thank you everyone for your submissions. Its been fun coming up with possible ideas and story lines that might evolve from different character combinations. While I do wish I could take everyone on a merry adventure through Duskwall I can only pick three. So, here are my selections.

DMRaven - Galland "Fog" Black
WarforgedMan - Abram "Guts" Orlov
YoricksRequiem - Ophelia Walker

With Dreg the Barbarian playing Dushyant "Dusky" Chaudhari and karlprosek playing Sinjin "Saint" Blakely we have our group of 5 scoundrels. I'll have the discussion thread up where we can start talking about the kind of crew we want to play later this afternoon.

For everyone else, DMRaven is running his own recruitment for his Blades in the Dark campaign and is giving preference to anyone who applied here so please give that thread a check out over here.

Yay! I am super excited for this!

Liberty's Edge

Discussion is up, getting the crew creation stuff into a readable form from the PDF took a bit longer than I expected it to. Please report in at your earliest convenience!
