Imix, I like your plan of scouting a path before we leave, but I don't think everyone should go. Domhnall's prophecy that we will be offered a devil's deal has not come to pass. If we all leave the fate of that deal may be out of our hands. Plus, you really don't want Istiel around when they try to parley because she's liable to use d6 diplomacy on their diplomat's face.

I suggest Drazen and Istiel scout, and report back while everyone else tends Shadeholme. Drazen of course is still training, so Istiel could head out and scout the wilderness route to To-Moak on the 25th by herself, then when Drazen finishes training he could scout the road or river.

BP: I'm loving these little adventures Istiel is going on, even though the dice are not kind. So we learned that these weird ogres can have Scent (she must smell strange, huh?), or any other mixture of strange abilities...

This is a good point. Partly I was looking to avoid splitting the party or a prolonged period of time.

I am leery of this devil's deal. Usually such deals look good but are very bad. It is also possible Naira is that devil's deal (as she opens the option of going by boat). Heck, it's possible Istiel's discovery of the boat is such a deal.

Great, thanks Drazen. Then Istiel and Drazen start scouting the wilerness path to To-moak on the 25th? If we only travel 8 hours a day (non-stealth) Drazen could still get some training time in?

I wrote a really nice (in my opinion) post about Istiel meditating and praying, and then accidentally, irreversibly, deleted the whole thing.

Posting from phones is it's own special challenge.


Ugh, that sucks. Wonder if Lazarus can be put on phones?

Regarding the dice, I'll need a stealth check, a perception check, and a survival check. One roll for each check (can be one of you, or both of you, splitting up the rolls). The person who doesn't roll the checks can aid the other with a separate "aid another" roll.

Wow. They have their women and children with them. This isn't just an invasion, it's a resettlement. Truly apocalyptic for the Three People. We'll see how To-Moak faired, but only Cornucopia may have survived/they haven't hit it yet.

To be fair, they're pissed at Shadeholme because we thwarted their plans, oops..

I can think of two scenarios right now.

This is like the Gauls attacking Rome, but spurred on by the first flame instead of revenge and spoils.

Or, more horribly, this is like the Goths fleeing from the Huns and attacking Rome. If the Frozen are fleeing from something else (the men in metal armor that is prophesized?), we're in for an even worse time. I delight in the idea of the Frozen getting attacked by a dwarven army, though.

On the reason for our enemy advancing, it is an ILL OMEN if even our foes are running from something worse. That said, if that was the case, I doubt they'd be wasting time with infiltration/corruptions/waiting for us, especially when it at least appears as though their forces could straight out-muscle us.

In the very least, I'd say we have some time before full-plate dwarves make it to us. And when they do, let's see how the bastards fair in the snow, storm, hail, and rain, huh?

If there's anything dwarves love, it's reclaiming ancestral homelands. I think we might be living on one, given Drazen's discovery of that ancient burial site. Which we should go back to sometime and have our smarty pants knowledge peoples look at.

Great work with the construct, Imix. I don't know what they were doing with those keelboats but it couldn't have been good.

It's amazing to me how... scared... the Frozen are. Superstitious is one thing, but it seems to me whenever there is a threat they either come down on it with overwhelming force or run away. They don't take risks, they want to win or not try.

We could use this to our advantage in the future. Either Naira and Imix working together to create anomalies that scare them away from areas (like the docks, so we can load up on boats), or a distraction that causes them to over-commit in one area so we can slip through the thinned ranks of another area.

I've been trying to think what Imix would do, but his knowledge of engineering is better than mine.

Current plan is: sabotage the boats.
Pull the canoes into the channel, submerge them, add rock weights. When we're ready to go, we just have people pull off the rocks, pull them up and go (would only be a few days).
Keelboats are more complicated, as I'm not sure how elaborate they are. Hole the boats, leave them in water less deep than their sides, pray that Naira can patch the hole and remove the water quickly (bailing?).

Why the **** do it?
If the Frozen take the boats, it's for a bad reason. If they're working on them, they must be going to use them. Looks like they're building a little navy.
If the Frozen think we'll take the boats, they'll destroy them properly.
If we destroy the boats, in a non-obvious way we can reverse, they may stop patrolling this area (especially if it looks like Nargun).

I don't think we'll get to use those boats, and in any case, by the time Istiel and Drazen return to say the waterways are (mostly) clear, Imix will have already sunk them.

Drazan wasn't there the last time Mother Hunger was chit chatting to curious party members and I don't recall being briefed on the encounter short of the bit about being told wolves ate those people, but we let them go because of reasons. Just a primer for what might happen

I get confused about what I know IC and OOC.
I know we all have secret information (Imix's suspicions about the order, Drazan's axe's origins, etc) but there are things that don't seem to be something we'd keep secret from each other (Nargun, the boats, Mother Hunger).

Anyone got any ideas on how to keep this clear enough I can remember what I know IC and what I know OOC when I was told it two years ago? not reading spoilers helps (though then I get sad that I don't get to see great posts) but we don't want to use spoilers for things that we then pass on.

I'm also assuming that we don't have more than a few secrets (outside personal revelations such as Drazan and Istiel are sharing) each.

I'm thinking maybe a wiki page or something of known group information? A general assumption we're passing on information? This could be flavourless dot points - but at least we'd know. I'll volunteer to update it from now on if we do this and people like.

Im fine without, but not opposed in letting someone maintain one and keeping more people in the loop. I wouldn't want it to replace playing out some of the information dissemination parts though.

Some of it, sure - but things like days of scouting would reasonably have a meeting each night, and that would get tedious quickly.

Oios was pretty open with what happened with his encounter with Mother Hunger (especially his snark that Rigel and Imix didn't come with him) so I'd say it's general knowledge in the group that there are talking wolves running around now.

I used to maintain an information document for a group in another one of my games, it got to be a pain after a while.

BP has a nice page on NPCS that kind of serves this purpose.

I dont think there is an issue with there being talking wolves in a game where magic is a thing, but Mother Hunger is a stranger and eats people in Drazan's eyes especially since he was not part of the previous encounter.

Mother Hunger is a cannibal, and the mountain tribes are cannibals and Drazan has no love for his people. Cannabilism falls into Drazan's evil bucket. Circumstances aside, sentient creatures eating other sentients is cannabilism.

Glad you two liked it. It is funny how things like that work out in games. MH was supposed to be a throwaway worg plus some wolf friends that you all were supposed to beat/scare off the corpses to look through and find clues, but then you - surprise? - split the party and only Rigel/Istiel went in, with the help of a fledgling and unoptimized monk NPC.

So I abandoned that fight and went with the fairy tale approach, which worked well. But, I figured that was it, and although I liked MH, had written her out of the game.

Until Imix "summoned" his Nargun. That was when she became a dwarf. I'd been thinking about bringing them in for a while in some manner, but was a little stumped on how. It all kind of clicked from there.

So, thanks everyone! I appreciate how much you all are contributing to this world-building process. Even if you don't know it is happening, it happens a lot.

Now, speaking of contributing...

It has been since 11/29 since Naira has popped into this game, and her player has been absent from his/her other games for about the same amount of time. I am suspecting RL is getting in the way, but don't have any other information.

Just a reminder, if you're going to be out a while, do like Oios did and pop in and let everyone know what's going on.

I'll send Naira's player a pm and give Naira a little more time to show up, but at some point I'm going to have to write her out of the story.

And you all probably killed all my skin-stealers first :/

Hey all, I am terribly sorry about my disappearance. I had some family complications following Thanksgiving that made it hard for me to do much but work and spend time with my family members. We're all okay now, and we're all more or less picked up the pieces.

Still, unforgivable that I didn't give notice when this all started, or provide some sort of update to you all. I feel terrible joining an honestly great game with wonderful players and not giving it the attention or piece of mind I owe it. So really, sincerely, sorry about my absence. It won't happen without warning again, I promise.

I aim to be back on track with everything shortly. I aim to catch up by Tuesday night.

Again, I am really happy you all have welcomed me so nicely into this game, I want to be here until the end :)
