GM Chyro
I'd have to say no, the design between crossbow bolts and arrows from a longbow, is too different.
Father Burdock
"Alright, Elsa and Grint for support from up here, while Orland, Sivar, and I rappel down and take the fight to them? I'll light myself as soon as I hit ground to give you guys vision for the targets. Sound good?"
GM Chyro
Okay, if you're going without a rope, DC 15 climb.
2d3 ⇒ (1, 2) = 3
GM Chyro
First time i've heard of the word.
3d4 ⇒ (3, 4, 1) = 8
Father Burdock gets down via the rope, and motions Orland to get down.
But as the brawler gets down, the sentry turns his dutiful eyes towards the west.
He yells towards the clearing.
"Alert! Trespassers!"

Sigh. Grint. Why are we always fighting. We should at least give these silly Dwarves a chance to recant their ways and grovel.
Elsa gathers power, and unleashes it in a torrent of ice!

Sivar, having his weapon tied on his back, taps it for a light cantrip.
He climbs down at 1/4 speed.
I noticed with even a nat 1 you climb this, but better you roll for it regardless, since accelerated climb gets you down faster.
----------
The lookout returns fire at Elsa.
Crossbow, entangled: 1d20 + 6 - 3 ⇒ (17) + 6 - 3 = 201d8 ⇒ 4

That punch was a little low My base is +11 a 16 wasnt going to hit likely anyway.. I assume they have shields, I would have raged, but that is what happens when I get busy.
GM Chyro
It would've helped a bit if your sheet pointed out more than your ability scores. :)
GM Chyro
I'll bot Burdock.
Father Burdock taps himself with light cantrip too, and moves towards the tower.
Grint lets his Arrow fly, which scrapes the duergar's cheek.
Elevation.

With a swift fist to the face, the duergar is taken out of the fight.
His buddy up in the watchtower isn't lucky either, as Elsa throws a ball of frost at him, and he keels over the edge, landing near Father Burdock on the ground.
And that's a wrap, combat over.
GM Chyro
Aside from their usual gear, they each carry
5d10 + 5 ⇒ (3, 2, 4, 1, 8) + 5 = 23 gold pieces from recent wages.
Coming to the clearing, two cages, 10 x10 feet, and 10 feet high, stand in the center near a bonfire.
A large barrel lies on its side to the west, and two trunks
stand to the east.
One cage is open, and was likely where the captives you saw earlier were kept in. Inside the other cage two figures lie underneath crude blankets.
GM Chyro
They are not dead.
They are, however, trying to breathe really quiet.
Curled up, you get the idea they are trying to stay this quiet out of fear.
Sivar Soulscar
Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (3) + 10 = 13
Relieved to be out of the thrill and danger of combat, Sivar is able to speak properly again.
"Are we going to check on them" indicating to the forms under the covers in the cage.
GM Chyro
Sivar, you could have taken 10 for that.
Grint inspects the cage.
"Could you stay quiet for a moment..."
(listens carefully)
"Whoever they are, they're alive."
Sense motive: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24
[smaller]"And i think they're scared...they are laying on the floor curled up. Could one of you try to talk to them? I'll inspect the chests."

6 mwk short bows and 5 common arrows.
A +1 staff.
6d20 ⇒ (18, 5, 16, 20, 16, 9) = 84 gold pieces

One of the blankets slowly pulls away, revealing a misshapen humanoid face.
That is, until a longer look shows the masculine face a mixture of elf, scales and fur. This is beyond a doubt a mongrelman.
The other face now showing carefully, it reveals a feminine face, with mostly the features of a human head, but with two pitch black eyes and small mandibles and antennas like an ant.
They cautiously observe you, and when they have ascertained themselves that you are the only ones at the scene, the man starts talking.
In broken common: "You've beat the grey skinned ones? That, be a feat of skill. Let us out, please? Grey skinned ones take us captive.
They take more of us down dark hall beyond, before you come."
Jadwiga Elsa Harcatha
1 person marked this as a favorite.
Elsa says Grint! We should free them. These foul Dwarves kept them in no fitting manner. Elsa complains, and you get the sense that what outrages her is not the slavery, it's the shoddy upkeep of the slaves.
GM Chyro
I know he's occupied atm, so...
Grint nods, surprised yet not surprised at Elsa's sudden outburst.
He nods and slams at the lock a few times with the hilt of his sword.
<Clang...clang...clang>
The lock eventually breaks and falls off.
Once both prisoners are standing again, they are in just plain clothes.
The man bows slightly his head.
"Our thanks. My name is Tarrus, and she is Nelphys.
We were on a patrol with 4 others, trying to hunt for game. Fortune did not smile on us, a group of the grey skinned ones caught us in an ambush, while we was busy fighting prey."
Nelphys: "We heard some talk between grey skinned ones who came from the tunnel and later returned.
They talk of rumor of a big gem find, among recent delvings.
What they call...diamond! Yes, diamond. One big as fist."
She describes what she heard
GM Chyro
Nelphys nods, at points towards the tunnel up ahead.
"They organized, disciplined and cruel. One not of us, he act defiant, and they whip his back open, before take him into the tunnel.
Pale ugly one, he say he and part of tribe taken prisoner."
Tarrus adds to her comment.
"My guess is the captured either get killed, or must work."
He rubs his neck.
"But we can't leave without our friends, not as long as we don't know if they be dead or not. Is it ok to follow you from a distance?"
The two scavenge the two guards from their mail, axe and shield, if you let them.
Down the tunnel and at what is ahead, you could have them do tasks to aid you as you see fit.
If you want to know their stats before deciding if yes or no, just ask.
GM Chyro
I guess not. :)
But before you're going in....you're going up a lvl to lvl 6.
