I think when I wrote Litheene I was mainly inspired by Varin, being one of the characters I really liked, and merging her with the this concept I wanted to explore, of a Damane raised in Seanchan that rejects Seanchan teaching. The focus on 'Greals was another edge for trying, and it fit well in the mix.
Now that I think back about it, Varin's decisive glory was finding a way out of a situation, to free herself from a bondage no one dared overthrow before, not unlike Litheene's story out-smarting the Seanchan.
It's funny, I had a sketchy idea of Kodo's personality when I created him, then bam, into combat and all of a sudden Severed. He hasn't been "himself" for nearly the entire time I've played him, so his personality is really open for whatever way I wish to develop it.
I really like how a character can develop their own personality despite the player's intentions. I guess I intended to play Alathea somewhere around a kinder and gentler Nynaeve. Maybe I still am playing her that way, but she certainly seems to have taken a life of her own.
Kinder, gentler, less repressed, and generally much more fun to be around than Nynaeve, I'd say :) Alathea can still be a hardass though...
Gotta say, I'm just loving this game. Good stories and twists, good players, good characters, surprises, interactions, it's all there. Good work folks :)
Kodo was always intended to be a fairly hard-minded guy, but gentle underneath - his earlier life had left him feeling like failure as a result of not doing his duty as a Shienaran and a man. Thus he was to be quiet, polite yet unbending, loyal to the Black Tower, underneath it all very compassionate but burying that beneath his adherence to duty - which I'd planned would cause him great personal turmoil when forced to choose between duty and compassion.
Now after being Severed and restored he's like a butterfly emerging from its cocoon - even I have no idea how he's going to turn out now!
Rhoekk, Ryland? Are the two of you still interested in being warders? The whole being tainted thing gives me an idea I am mulling over if either / both of you are... and if that isn't ominous sounding...
Rhoekk would definitely be willing to entertain the idea. I've been struggling a bit trying to decide what direction to go with him in the future. In the beginning, his identity was really tied to being a Red Shield - a protector, and basically what amounts to a policeman, and his full dedication to the Car'a'carn. I was thinking that when he becomes aware of the movement, he will likely become Siswai'aman. When we were taken out of our realm, he really became quite lost, and unsure what to do with himself, so he just started to work to defend and serve the group as well as possible. Being so stoic by nature, he has been unable to speak on his feelings, and perhaps not really even able to recognize them for what they are.
He has hinted here and there that he has perhaps some feelings for the wise woman apprentice in the group, but being a bit awkward with people, has had no way to express it, and it has just come out as a little bit of jealousy here or there when she interacts with another male. Back in the early days, I did a lot more posting on his internal monologue, and I suppose I should probably bring that back in order to breathe some new life back into the character, lest he start to become a bit two dimensional and stale.

@Ryland / Rhoekk - Ok great. I figured you probably were and I've been interested in going that direction myself, but could never quite get Fia to the point of seriously considering it. Ryvin's post might have given me an opening though so I'll start nudging us in that direction once I'm home and have something besides my phone to type on.
As to feelings, etc, I'd be open to the possibility of having Fiallain exploring a relationship or what have you with whoever, if that ends up being the direction the story / characters take. Keep in mind that until relatively recently, she had been wedded to her spears for practically her entire life, and since that point where she left them behind, all her energy and thought has been mostly on trying to stay alive. The potential or even desire for any sort of relationship have been pretty much the last thing on her mind and she may need to have her eyes opened to go that direction. Plus... I don't know, but I suspect things could get... interesting in that area, especially if she ends up bonding both Ryland and Rhoekk. :P

I don't remember a One Power-based contraceptive from the books, but if there's one available, Alathea's been using it. While she does want children, she sees the benefit of not having them while exiled to a mirror world and fighting for her life.
Hmm I was sure there was, but after an hour of searching (although probably at least half that time was spent chasing internet butterflies...) I can't find any reference to Power-based contraception. Must have just been my imagination...
Back on topic though: what's the plan? I assume we're going to Tar Valon when we decide to leave (which probably follows the characters finding out where they are... ), but are we going to hang here until Vala's child is born? A bit of fast-forward downtime probably wouldn't hurt. But if so, then what? Foster the child out? Vala, I'm assuming you don't want to retire your character to become a full-time mum?
