Captain Brobdingnagian |
Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 20
Brob carefully scans the area, relying on his keen halfling senses to find something marginally useful. Or perhaps his foe!
The Dire GM |
Your team deploys into the dimly lit warehouse.
Darkrunner-42 doesn't find anything of interest nearby, while Buster notices a spare Battery sitting on top of the crate he climbs up on.
D-474 finds that the terminals here used to power the lights and doors, but are currently locked out by station security and are inoperable (which Darkrunner-42 learns after joining in. SP-07 picks its way along the southern wall, scanning for trouble but finds none in the sector it is patrolling. Brob, however, finds a Medpatch in the barrel he is near.
Kallus makes his way up to the catwalk, but likewise doesn't spot anything, until...
Tyrone's path takes him towards the center of the warehouse where the biggest collection of scattered junk rests (difficult terrain if moved through, but no impediment to the flying barathu). As he approaches, suddenly a large spiny beast bursts out from underneath the junk pile firing a spiked feather-looking harpoon as combat begins!
Buster Blitz: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10
Captain Brobdingnagian : 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22
D-474: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22
Darkrunner-42: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15
Kallus Harridan: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Tyrone the Barathu: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11
Feather Stalker: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23
In the surprise round, the Feather Stalker attacks BorT: 1d2 ⇒ 2 Tyrone!
Harpoon Attack: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (19) + 10 = 29 vs. KAC -2 (flat footed penalty)
Piercing Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
Acting first after its surprise-appearance, it fires a second harpoon, this time at TorB: 1d2 ⇒ 2 Buster Blitz!
Harpoon Attack: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (8) + 10 = 18 vs. KAC -2 (flat footed penalty)
Piercing Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
ROUND 1
Brobdingnagian
D-474 & SP-07
Darkrunner-42
Tyrone (6 Damage)
Buster Blitz (7 Damage)
Kallus
ROUND 2
Feather Stalker
The whole party is up!
Now that you are seeing this creature for yourself, if you didn't make Life Science checks earlier, you can do so again now, clicking here to find the results of your roll.
Buster Blitz |
"We're under fire! Hit the dirt!" Buster spits the jury-rigged shock grenade out of his cheek pouch and into his hand. With a flick of his thumb, he activates it and it begins shaking and sparking. "Fire in the hole!" he shouts as he tosses it at the alien bird.]
Grenade Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 221d8 ⇒ 5 Reflex DC 13 for 1/2 damage
After tossing the grenade, Buster drops prone on top of the crate.
D-474 |
D-474 moves closer to his drone to make sure he keeps in Comm range, then using his custom rig link to the stealthy drone he commands it to take the shot.
SP-07 las pistol:: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13
Damage (fire):: 1d4 ⇒ 1
I don't seem to be doing much damage in any of my games at the moment
Tyrone the Barathu |
Tyrone will delay until the grenade goes off and then fly within 10 feet of the creature and using his early stage adaptation to give himself +3 damage to his attacks this round and attack the creature with his Taclash.
Taclash with Extra Damage: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10
Damage: 1d4 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7
Will sadly miss, my early stage adaption will refresh in Refresh: 1d4 ⇒ 1 round(s). So should be good to go next round.
Kallus Harridan |
"Seems we have found what we are looking for. Let's take it down!"
Kallus moves around the catwalk to get a better angle on the creature.
I want to move him to the spot on the catwalk just above the hole, but my phone doesn't allow me to edit the map with Slides well.
Darkrunner-42 |
DarkRunner tries again at the console to see if he can access the systems for the vehicle sitting behind the creature. If he can, perhaps he can distract it and get a better shot in. He issues the commands as quickly as possible and runs out along the containers for a straight shot.
Computers for trick attack (DC 20+target CR): 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (7) + 10 = 17
The doors of the stationary vehicle open and close automatically one time.
azimuth laser pistol attack (vs. FF if trick attack succeeded): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7 But it doesn't matter
azimuth laser pistol flame damage: 1d4 ⇒ 2
trick attack extra damage (if successful): 1d4 ⇒ 4
Captain Brobdingnagian |
Brob pockets the medpack, grinning at his good fortune, shouting, "Hey guys, I found a medpack!" until he notices his compatriots being impaled by the strange creature. "Uh... I guess we might need it sooner rather than later." He starts singing:
"That thing's ugly and that's for sure
Those feathers look like blades
Those quills are nasty; that's for sure
And I won't get in its range
And though it may be rare...
And though it may be strange..."
Standard Action, use Inspiring Boost to return 5 Stamina to Tyrone
The Dire GM |
Reflex Save: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11
The Feather Stalker takes a hit from Buster's grenade, but seems to be insulated against some of the electricity!
SP-07's las pistol shot goes a bit wide, Kallus moves to a better position, and Tyrone's attack also swipes a bit to the side of the creature's bony stem/body!
Darkrunner-42 comes up with a very innovative idea to try and distract the Feather Stalker, but is unfortunately unable to execute the plan to where it provides any combat advantages!
Brob starts singing a little ditty diddy that the Feather Stalker is blissfully unable to comprehend, allowing Tyrone to recover some Stamina!
Unfortunately for Tyrone, however, the Stalker sees a plump meal floating towards it like some kid of aerial variant of a sea anemone. It takes a guarded step towards the barathu and attacks with a biting appendage!
Attack: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 24 vs. KAC
Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7 Bludgeoning
ROUND 2
Brobdingnagian
D-474 & SP-07
Darkrunner-42
Tyrone (8 Damage)
Buster Blitz (7 Damage)
Kallus
ROUND 3
Feather Stalker (3 Damage)
The whole party is up!
Kallus Harridan |
Kallus moves to an even better position, but he still isn't close enough to use his powers. Drawing his pistol, he fires to get its attention, more than anything.
Laspistol: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 61d4 ⇒ 3
Tyrone the Barathu |
Tyrone will use his early stage adaptation to give himself +3 damage to his attacks this round and attack the creature with his Taclash again.
Taclash with Extra Damage: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9
Damage: 1d4 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10
My early stage adaption will refresh in Refresh: 1d4 ⇒ 1 round(s)
D-474 |
SP-07 will slink through the warehouse to get a better shot.
D-474 will stay put keeping a close eye on his drone.
SP-07's las pistol: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22
Damage: 1d4 ⇒ 1
Darkrunner-42 |
Darkrunner-42 comes up with a very innovative idea to try and distract the Feather Stalker, but is unfortunately unable to execute the plan to where it provides any combat advantages!
Thanks! I'm going to have to start a list of RPs for trick attack flavor. Too bad the rolls defeated it. Here goes another shot...
Darkrunner-42 has no idea how intelligent this creature is, and whether it picked up on his trick, but his pistol has the range so he backs up to the console again...
Computers for trick attack (DC 20+target CR): 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (9) + 10 = 19
The doors of the stationary vehicle open and close automatically twice.
azimuth laser pistol attack (vs. FF if trick attack succeeded): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24
azimuth laser pistol flame damage: 1d4 ⇒ 1
trick attack extra damage (if successful): 1d4 ⇒ 2
okay... now maybe I hit but did low damage. sigh.
Captain Brobdingnagian |
Brob peaks around the corner and fires his rifle at the thing, continuing to sing!
Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22
Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 2
"That's not a bird
So blow that thing away!
From its head to its soles
Fill it full of holes!"
Buster Blitz |
Buster unslings the reaction cannon from his back and aims it at the feather stalker. "I'm gonna turn you into a queen sized mattress after I'm done with you!"
Cannon shot: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 141d10 ⇒ 7
The Dire GM |
Kallus and Tyrone are unable to connect with their attacks, unfortunately.
SP-07, however, lands the first energy weapon attack against the Feather Stalker!
...which causes its Reflective Armor to activate, bouncing a beam of energy right back at SP-07!
SP-07: 1 Fire Damage (DC 10 Reflex reduces to 0 Damage)
Darkrunner-42 makes the car's alarm beep on and off a few times, which doesn't distract the creature, but his laser pistol certainly catches its attention, if only a little bit!
Brob also lands a scorching graze with his rifle, while Buster's shot goes wide!
With a meal so close to it, the Feather Stalker full-attacks Tyrone!
Attack 1: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21
Damage 1: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7 (Bludgeoning)
Attack 2: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19
Damage 2: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5 (Bludgeoning)
Oy...damned tactics and damned dice rolls...
Tyrone is smashed by the crinoid's appendages and is knocked unconscious to the ground!!
ROUND 3
Brobdingnagian
D-474 & SP-07 (SP-07 0 or 1 Damage)
Darkrunner-42
Tyrone (0hp and Dying)
Buster Blitz (7 Damage)
Kallus
ROUND 4
Feather Stalker (7 Damage)
Brob, D-474 (and SP-07), Darkrunner, Buster, and Kallus are up!
If you can get to them, a DC 15 Medicine check will stabilize Tyrone, as will any form of healing.
Buster Blitz |
Buster lays down some heavy fire at the oversized feather duster. "Spray and pray, boys! Spray and pray!"
Reaction Cannon: 1d20 + 4 - 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 - 4 = 61d10 ⇒ 10
Reaction Cannon 2: 1d20 + 4 - 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 - 4 = 111d10 ⇒ 8
Sorry, can't help low dice rolls. Wouldn't have hit with the first shot even if I wasn't full-attacking. Maybe the second shot would have hit...but then I wouldn't have had the second shot anyways.
Kallus Harridan |
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9 That may hurt a bit...
Kallus jumps down from the balcony to one of the crates and attempts to jump across to the next one to get close enough to use his powers. He twists his hand and focuses on what little mind the creature may have, crushing it.
Will DC 13 for half Mind Thrust: 2d10 ⇒ (5, 6) = 11 damage
2/3 1st Level Spells Remain
The Dire GM |
Buster's shots go wide, SP-07 avoids the reflecting laser blast, and Tyrone' sheer force of will allows him to stabilize from his dreadful wounds!
Kallus tries to hop down but takes a bit of a stumble... Falling Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 6 Bludgeoning...but he is still able to fire a spell at the creature!
Will Save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
The crinoid recoils in silent pain as its ten ivory-like arms flail about, smashing barrel and box alike!
ROUND 3
Brobdingnagian
D-474 & SP-07
Darkrunner-42
ROUND 4
Feather Stalker (18 Damage)
Buster Blitz (7 Damage)
Tyrone (0hp and Stable)
Kallus (6 Damage and Prone)
Brob, Darkrunner, and D-474 are still up!
Captain Brobdingnagian |
Brob shakes his head at Kallus, Inspiring to return his Stamina. 5 Stamina.
"I think that you should know
That's not a bird
So blow that thing away!
From its head to its soles
Fill it full of holes!"
Darkrunner-42 |
Spend 1 resolve point to stabalize. Darkrunner I believe you forgot your +4 bonus for trick attack.
what bonus is that? my understanding is simply that you get to use FF AC and do extra damage if successful.
Hmm, this creature doesn't notice the physical movement on the vehicle. Maybe I can get it to honk or make some other distracting noises.
Computers for trick attack (DC 20+target CR): 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (14) + 10 = 24
The vehicle emits a coarse safety horn that can be heard loudly throughout the warehouse.
5' step
azimuth laser pistol attack (vs. FF if trick attack succeeded): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19
azimuth laser pistol flame damage: 1d4 ⇒ 2
trick attack extra damage (if successful): 1d4 ⇒ 2
The Dire GM |
Brob helps Kallus recover while Darkrunner-42 gets the vehicle's horn to blare! The vibration in the ground causes the Feather Stalker to whirl about looking for new threats, allowing the android outlaw to land precision strike with his laser pistol!
My headcanon is that Darkrunner's roleplay choice is what caused the paizo dice roller to finally go his way! :P
ROUND 3
D-474 & SP-07
ROUND 4
Feather Stalker (22 Damage)
Buster Blitz (7 Damage)
Tyrone (0hp and Stable)
Kallus (1 Damage and Prone)
Brobdingnagian
Darkrunner-42
D-474 (and spot) can act again before the crinoid goes looking for blood once more!
Tyrone the Barathu |
what bonus is that? my understanding is simply that you get to use FF AC and do extra damage if successful.
You're a hacker operative, right?
You can attempt a Computers check with a +4 bonus to make a trick attack by creating a computerized distraction (you can’t use this option if stripped of all computerized gear in an area with no computers).
Its my understanding that you have 1(skill rank) + 3(class skill) + 3(int mod) + 3(free skill focus), so +10 normally, so it's +14 when you trick attack.
Darkrunner-42 |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |

Doh, right you are. I forgot the enhancement from the specialization. Thank you.
The Dire GM |
With no word from D-474, but with SP-07 having been moved on the map, I'm going to move along with it so we don't get bogged down. Sorry for the delay in posting - server goblins ate my post last night then had a busy day today too.
SP-07 advances to try and draw the beast away from the fallen barathu, and the Feather Stalker takes the bait, full-attacking the drone!
Attack 1: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24 (Oy! Better a drone than its mechanic though, right?)
Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6 Bludgeoning
Crit Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
Attack 2: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23
Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4 Bludgeoning
The ivory-like appendages of the feather stalker look soft and airy no more as they hammer down into SP-07's frame, smashing the drone into dozens of fragmented pieces all across the warehouse floor!
ROUND 4
Buster Blitz (7 Damage)
Tyrone (0hp and Stable)
Kallus (1 Damage and Prone)
Brobdingnagian
Darkrunner-42
D-474 & SP-07 (destroyed)
ROUND 5
Feather Stalker (22 Damage)
The whole party is up!
Darkrunner-42 |
Darkrunner heads back to the console. This time he tries to access some overhead lights of the warehouse. He causes the light nearest the creature to blink three times to get it to focus upward momentarily.
Computers for trick attack (DC20+target CR): 1d20 + 10 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 10 + 4 = 30
If it succeeds, the creature becomes flat-footed (I don't think I made this part clear before)
azimuth laser pistol attack, weapon focus, vs FF if successful trick attack: 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 4 + 1 = 14
azimuth laser pistol flame damage: 1d4 ⇒ 4
Trick attack damage: 1d4 ⇒ 4
The Dire GM |
One of Buster's shots lands a glancing blow on the Feather Stalker's stem, and when the lights flash, the creature thrashes this way and that trying to look for an enemy above it - exactly the distraction Darkrunner-42 needed in order to land his precision laser shot, which burns away a significant number of the crinoid's appendages!
The Stalker is still alive and kicking, but only barely...can you finish it off before it attacks again?!
ROUND 4
Tyrone (0hp and Stable)
Kallus (1 Damage and Prone)
Brobdingnagian
D-474 & SP-07 (destroyed)
ROUND 5
Feather Stalker (32 Damage)
Buster Blitz (7 Damage)
Darkrunner-42
Tyrone, Kallus, D-474, and Brob are still up!
Kallus Harridan |
Deciding that getting close to this thing was dangerous, Kallus stands himself up and focuses on a piece of debris nearby. Using all his power, he sends it flying towards the creature.
Telekinetic Wrench: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 1 = 211d6 ⇒ 3
Critical?: 1d6 ⇒ 5
The Dire GM |
Kallus narrows his eyes, causing a wrench in the debris field to vibrate...then shoot forward with alacrity, finding a path through the Feather Stalker's flailing appendages to strike its central nervous stem! The force of the blow creates the sound of bone crushing the brain stem of the crinoid, which collapses to the ground...dead!
You are out of combat!
The Dire GM |
Tyrone: You can choose to spend 1 Resolve point to regain 1 hp and awaken, unless your party heals you first.
Everyone: Station security is willing to give you 10 minutes to rest after dealing with the beast. If you want to do so, you can rest and then spend 1 Resolve Point to regain all lost Stamina.
D-474: If you take 10 minutes (which can be the same 10 minutes as above), you can rebuild SP-07 to 10% of its hit point total as detailed in the Starfinder FAQ.
I'll let you decide if you want to take a 10 minute rest before moving on - but I will post the next scene in the next hour (real time) or so from now!
The Dire GM |
I'm going to assume you all take the 10 minute rest. Please indicate in your next post whether or not you're spending resolve to regain your stamina, and if anyone is helping heal poor Tyrone (or repair poor SP-07)
After checking the warehouse for any other dangers and finding none, you return outside and inform station security. They start calling in dockworkers to remove the crates that belong to various persons and companies, and tell you that the building will be handed over to the Starfinders in a couple of days. No one cares about the battery or the medpatch, and station security tells you that you can keep those if you'd like to.
Zigvigix is waiting for you beyond the "police line" when you exit, and presents you with some gifts and funds they were authorized to bestow from the Exo-Guardians' budget: one set of basic iridshell armor, two mk 1 incendiary grenades, and a credstick with 400 credits on it. Ziggy is excited to examine the warehouse, but has one final word before departing - "Have fun with the grenades, but don’t blow yourselves up — I like you!"
~~~~~
Next, you head to the record store, only to find that you must...stand in line!
...for
......six
.........hours
You are Fatigued! You can neither run nor charge, and you take a –1 penalty to your Armor Class, attack rolls, melee damage rolls, Reflex saving throws, initiative checks, and Strength- and Dexterity-based skill and ability checks. The amount of bulk you can carry without becoming encumbered is reduced by 1. If you are fatigued, doing an activity that would normally cause fatigue causes you to become exhausted instead. After 8 hours of complete rest, you are no longer fatigued.
Even once you get inside, the crowd is trying to trample you to get at the records!!!
You take 1d4 ⇒ 2 points of Bludgeoning Damage!
Ziggy's personal credstick had enough on it to buy 1 copy of the album with its price of 50 Credits. You got to the store just early enough that you can choose to buy 1 copy for Historia-7 and one for each of you as well (plus one for Ziggy if you'd like to expend money to do so). If you are buying a copy for yourself, please indicate that you are in your next post (and also decide which mission you'd like to tackle next)!
Captain Brobdingnagian |
Fortitude save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10
Reflex save: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15
Brob clearly isn't cut out for waiting in line, and by the end of the wait is looking pallid. "I suppose this is how it feels to be on the waiting end of a line..."
While waiting, he turns to his companions. "We need to get a copy for Historia, but maybe we should get a copy for Ziggy too? I'm planning to get one for myself as well."
Racing next?
D-474 |
D-474 will repair his "cat". SP-07 is at 1 HP.
Fort save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Ref save: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22 -1 for fatigue.
D-474 picks up a copy for himself wanting to understand what all the fuss is about.
Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19
[o]Upon hearing the others in the store suggest selling the album, D-474 thinks he may do that if he doesn't like it after giving it a whirl.[/o]
Darkrunner-42 |
No need to spend resolve point on stamina. No 10m rest. No personal copy of the album.
Fortitude, stand in line: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (3) + 0 = 3
Reflex, avoid trample: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16
After several hours of waiting in line Darkrunner begins to feel stiff in the joints. He doesn't complain. Thankfully he keeps his mind about him and when the crowd starts to surge the line a bit he's able to step out of the way. He loses some places in line though...
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9
After the near trampling he's too watchful for additional surges to really focus on any nearby conversation.
Buster Blitz |
Buster uses one of his Resolve points to rest. "I'll arm wrestle anyone over that iridshell armor if they want it. I also wouldn't mind holding onto one a' them grenades, but if someone else wants them they can have it, 'cause I can make my own."
"Oh, boy, a nice queue. Just like being in the corps."
Buster gets in line, using the wait time to put together a sticky grenade I.
Fort save: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17
Ref save: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14
Kallus Harridan |
Kallus recovers from his fight naturally. Not spending the point. He then finds Tyrone to help him. "Allow me." He finds an appendage and focuses his mind. Tyrone heals with Healing Touch 5 points.
Fortitude Save: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6 Fatigued
Reflex Save: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 1 = 18
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22
At the store, Kallus stoically waits his turn, though he is tired. When he gets a copy, he turns to the others. "My copy will go to Zigvigix. I do not care for such, trivialities and we have other things to accomplish."
The Dire GM |
The following characters bought a copy of the album for themselves: Brobdingnagian & D-474
One vote for the junk race and no others, so that's next!
The Dire GM |
The plain white doors of the office slide open to reveal a stark, dimly lit room. The chamber is bleak and expressionless in its emptiness—no vanities line its smooth black walls, and no signs of use mar its smooth black furniture. The only occupants of the suite are a bug-eyed tadpole wriggling in a glowing blue aquarium and a reptilian vesk seated behind an onyx desk. The vesk gestures to a number of chairs in front of him, his features sharply illuminated by the light of his desk’s green holoscreen. “The new graduates,” he greets, in a low and pleasant voice. “Good day. I am Radaszam, though since you are here, I should hope you already knew."
“I trust you are aware of our Society’s traditions, so I will cut to the point. I have a minor situation that needs resolution. One of our members, a human named Laboni, had a rather public altercation with a junk scavenger from the Spike. You might be more familiar with the scavenger than I, actually; he is a ysoki who fancifully calls himself Ratrod. I am told he runs a popular racing competition that has, hmm, several hundreds of thousands of viewers on the station’s infosphere. For some reason, Laboni felt the need to tell him that any ‘real’ mechanic could easily beat the garbage that Ratrod and his associates slap together. Now that Ratrod has issued an infosphere-wide demand that she race him and prove it, Laboni doubts she can back that claim up."
“Embarrassing, isn’t it? Not really the sort of troublemaker that suits our Society. Perhaps she would be better suited to the bottom of a trash compactor... Well, we cannot afford to throw her out, not after so many Starfinders were lost in the Scoured Stars. Besides, we can’t let people think we are so weak that we can’t control our own members, or that we cannot stand up to a scrapyard junker. No, I would like you to assist Laboni in winning this race. Show our detractors that even the least of our Society is not someone to be trifled with.”
He slides over credentials marking you as part of a pit crew for the upcoming junk race, but waits to hear if you have any questions before pressing the button that will open the office doors that lead you outside.
Darkrunner-42 |
"Hmm... what sort of expertise is she looking for in preparing a racer? I can help with the computer systems."
The Dire GM |
Okay by me, Tyrone - no worries!
"I am not a junkracer. You should be able to consult with a race official or Laboni herself when you arrive at the arena," Radaszam replies to Darkrunner-42.
Buster Blitz |
Buster did also want to pick up an album for himself.
"I love junk racing! Especially when one of the racers blows up or loses control and crashes into the crowd! This is gonna be awesome!"
Buster appears very eager to get going.
Kallus Harridan |
Kallus admires the austere surroundings that Radaszam has in his office. "Only one question. If this Laboni can't do it, other than our reputation, what is at stake?"
The Dire GM |
Got it, Buster.
Radaszam grins, possibly playfully but almost certainly with a predatory undertone. "Given that it's still quite early on your first day as official field agents...isn't that enough?"
He presses a button on his console, and the office doors open once more, showing you the way out, directions to the track in the Botscrap district appearing on your personal comm units.
~~~~~
When you arrive at the competitors’ entrance, a small robot scans your IDs and informs you of the basic rules of the race: racers and their pit crews are to build and improve their vehicles from the available scrap built up around the racetrack. Vehicles built at previous junkraces can return. Racers can fire upon other competitors during the race, but firing into the audience is grounds for immediate and permanent disqualification; racer weapons must be nonlethal and may affect only opponents’ vehicles. Sabotaging opponents' vehicles prior to a race is also grounds for being ejected - a first offense results in the person who is caught being removed. A second offense sees the whole team of the caught person removed from the stadium and disqualified from racing, permanently.
Laboni is easy to find in the crowd due to her paisley clothes and bright white lab coat. She is in her late teens and sheepish about the whole debacle—in truth, she was merely aping the opinions of her seniors in the field and got carried away. Laboni is incredibly grateful to you for showing up to support her, as she knows she cannot win the race on her own.
She has constructed a basic Junkracer with the following statistics:
~~~~~
Speed: 40ft / Top Speed: 400ft
EAC: 10 / KAC: 12
Ship Modifiers: Piloting +2, Attack -3
Passengers: 1
Weapon: Energy Weapon (A hit vehicle takes a -4 to its next Piloting check)
Each character may take FOUR actions before the race begins. Laboni informs you that she will be working on something special to improve your team's overall chances of victory during that time. You may each go off on your own, or combine your efforts with the Aid Another action (feel free to coordinate in the Discussion tab).
Option 1: Improve Your Junkracer
You can make a Computers, Engineering, Perception, or Physical Science check to find, repair, create, or fine-tune parts to improve your vehicle. Improvements that you can create are as follows:
- Increase base speed
- Increase piloting modifier
- Increase attack modifier
- Increase EAC
- Increase KAC
- Install an extra Energy Weapon (inflicts a -4 Piloting penalty to whomever it hits for one round)
- Install an extra Kinetic Weapon (inflicts a -4 Piloting penalty to whomever it hits for one round)
- Increase "damage" dealt by one of your weapons (from a -4 to a -6)
Option 2: Socialize
You can try to socialize with the other five pilots taking part in this junkrace. Laboni tells you that some might also dislike Ratrod and could be recruited to help against him, or might have useful information. Depending on which one you approach, this might involve Bluff, Diplomacy, Intimidate, Culture, or Sense Motive checks.
Option 3: Sabotage
You can try to sabotage another racer's vehicle. To do this, you would need to make a Stealth check followed by an Engineering check. If successful at both, you could decrease a vehicle's speed by 10ft (100ft max) or impose a -4 to either piloting or weapons checks.
Option 4: Investigating the Enemy
You can take an action to scout out one of your opponents and their skills as a pilot/gunner using Sense Motive or one of your opponents' vehicles and its statistics using Engineering.
Special: Each of you can make either a Sense Motive or Engineering check for free *once* during your "first round" action for this mission (unless you are choosing Option 3).
Your GM will be pretty hands-off for this part except where you interact with your opponents or to give you the results of your rolls. If you want to just take all four turns at once - I say go for it. Once all of you have taken your four turns, Laboni will reveal what she's been working on, and then the race will begin!
~~~~~
Basic descriptions of Laboni's competition for this race -
Ratrod, a male ysoki with mottled gray-and-white fur. He has a showman’s personality to match his icon status. People in the Spike consider him something of a hero to the ysoki-dominated Scrap Union.
Lemgem, a blue-haired female gnome covered in all manner of piercings, tattoos, and augmentations.
Nyizin, a female ryphorian (triaxian) bearing many scars wearing a racing suit that is augmented with pieces of dragon bone. She seems to have a "thousand yard stare" that unnerves others.
Orsis, stoic, dark-haired male damaya lashunta who looks unfairly good in a black and gold racing suit.
Velocity, a beautiful android with silver hair and skin. They have self-modified to have both masculine and feminine attributes, and have decorated their clothing, eyelids, and lips with bright, colorful patterns.
Buster Blitz |
"I'm gonna start with getting us an extra weapon. Not another sissy laser cannon, I'm gonna put together a good ole' fashion slug thrower."
Buster goes off into the junkyard to find the parts he needs to make an additional kinetic weapon.
Take 10:Engineering: 10 + 7 = 17
I will put another dice roll down in case I can't take 10 on this one.
Engineering: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15
