Grigor Vachkov |

Grigor takes a 5 foot step in and attacks with his ancient blade.
First 1d20 + 13 - 2 ⇒ (13) + 13 - 2 = 24
3d6 + 7 - 2 ⇒ (4, 2, 2) + 7 - 2 = 13
Confirmation (like that will be needed) 1d20 + 13 - 2 ⇒ (7) + 13 - 2 = 18
3d6 + 7 - 2 ⇒ (2, 4, 1) + 7 - 2 = 12
Second 1d20 + 8 - 2 ⇒ (11) + 8 - 2 = 17
3d6 + 7 - 2 ⇒ (1, 3, 5) + 7 - 2 = 14
Confirmation (like that will be needed) Second 1d20 + 8 - 2 ⇒ (4) + 8 - 2 = 10
3d6 + 7 - 2 ⇒ (5, 5, 2) + 7 - 2 = 17
I've simplifed the modifiers as the formula does not seem to work with the stacking penalties and bonuses. I've added +2 for the bane effect, + 2 for favoured enemy - 2 for sickness. Changing the formula does not seem to have affected the actual rolls which remain as is

Windle Thetra |

Round 1:
DC 22 Fort save: 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 6 + 2 = 27
Windle is unaffected by the unnatural creature's stench. He whispers to his bow: "Death to aberrations!" Activating bane ability. Then he, too, takes a short step (5' step to C-11) before loosing a quick pair of arrows at the ancient horror.
Arrow #1, incl. bane, bless, point-blank shot, and rapid shot: 1d20 + 8 + 2 + 1 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (4) + 8 + 2 + 1 + 1 - 2 = 14
Arrow #1, incl. bane, bless, point-blank shot, and rapid shot: 1d20 + 8 + 2 + 1 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (6) + 8 + 2 + 1 + 1 - 2 = 16
Well, that could have gone better. Did either of them hit?

Deimus |

Nope. You rolled quite low though.

Mireza |

Fortitude 1d20 + 3 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 3 + 4 = 11 Is the sickened condition still suppressed until Iozef's remove sickness spell expires? Pretty sure it hasn't been more than an hour since we got webbed.
Even the summoned frogs seem loath to remain close to the hideous aberration. Mireza keeps her eyes fixed on the frog-covered spawn, her will forbidding the amphibians to flee, and tries to slip lightly away from the hulking monstrosity.
Standard action: maintain concentration on rain of frogs; starting from a9 where she's been the last 3 rounds, she wants to step back into the hallway, one square north of Iozef, to get out of the immediate battlefield. Acrobatics roll to avoid AoO 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22 -2 if she's sickened

Valiard Tessar |

Valiard stands back up, potions in hand, takes one look up the hallway to where the sounds of fighting are coming from and turns to look at the door that Crove was trying to go through.
I have no idea what is going on up there...and I don't belong standing side by side with the Crow...I think that I need to see if I can get behind whatever it is up that way stinking up the place.
Valiard is going to move east through the rooms looking to see if he can move behind the spawn.
Fort 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3

Deimus |

Valiard remembers that Crove felt a strong chaotic presence behind the second door. The other doors east are cells. Let me know where you're going.

Deimus |

I confused the two of you...Wonder why ;-p

Valiard Tessar |

Aaaaaahhh. I have meta all over me!
***edit***
I wonder if I can get past the creature.
Stealth1d20 + 11 ⇒ (17) + 11 = 28
Moving as smoothly and stealthily as possible, Valiard moves back up the hallway to get his first look at the challenging creature and to see if he can find a way to move past it.
Acrobatics 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (11) + 9 = 20
I guess Valiard will just be looking for a gap to jump through and move past the creature when he gets a chance. On the map to the north, there weren't any ways of going to the west that we saw, right?

Deimus |

Round 2: The Heroes of Carrion Hill
Seeing the massive beast before them, Iozef is taken aback by the monstrosity. "Oh my... Pharasma's blessing upon us all. We are surely going to need it." His holy symbol firmly in hand, Iozef calls forth healing to all who need it.
Iozef can’t recall any relevant information about this monstrosity.
(Channel, everyone gets 13 hp.)
Grigor takes a step in and attacks with his ancient blade. His first blow connects and he feels the blade shudder in pleasure as it slices deep in the horror’s alien flesh.
Windle is unaffected by the unnatural creature's stench. He whispers to his bow: "Death to aberrations!" Then he, too, takes a short step before loosing a quick pair of arrows at the ancient horror.
Mireza remains protected Iozef’s previous protective incantation.
Even the summoned frogs seem loath to remain close to the hideous aberration. Mireza keeps her eyes fixed on the frog-covered spawn, her will forbidding the amphibians to flee, and tries to slip lightly away from the hulking monstrosity.
I wonder if I can get past the creature. Moving as smoothly and stealthily as possible, Valiard moves back up the hallway to get his first look at the challenging creature and to see if he can find a way to move past it.
As Valiard tries to get past it, the alien horror seems to sense it.
1d20 + 14 ⇒ (1) + 14 = 15
1d20 + 10 ⇒ (4) + 10 = 141d6 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 91d20 + 13 ⇒ (10) + 13 = 23
Despite its awareness that Valiard is present, its tentacle miss the herbalist, but he cannot go further. (I don’t see it so much as meta. PbP is over a long period, so it’s easy to forget something the character would have remembered.)
Round 2: The Spawn of Yog-Sothoth
The alien horror shrieks at you in defiance, its numerous mouths grinning with mad glee as tentacles lash here and there, looking for limbs to grab. Its head lurches back, then springs forth, like a coiled snake, its huge mouth aiming for the Crow’s stomach.
1d20 + 11 ⇒ (4) + 11 = 151d8 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12

G:1d20 + 10 ⇒ (16) + 10 = 261d6 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 51d20 + 13 + 4 - 20 ⇒ (1) + 13 + 4 - 20 = -2
The head is easily blocked, but two tentacles slip underneath and lash at Grigor’s leg, drawing blood (-10 hp to Grigor)
Valiard, despite his cover, and Iozef, also get lashed at. The beast’s strokes are accurate despite the chaos that surrounds it, and the strikes find their mark. (-6 hp to Iozef and -6 hp Valiard)

Grigor Vachkov |

Sodded up my math earlier... this should be correct... 2 for the bane effect, 2 for fav. enemy and 1 for bless - the formula doesn't do te -2 so well with all the modifiers
Grigor continues hacking away
1st (add in the -2 to the final results
1d20 + 11 + 2 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 11 + 2 + 2 + 1 = 23

Windle Thetra |

Round 2:
Windle sidles over a bit more for a clearer shot (5' step to B-11), maintaining the bane effect and shifting his judgment to justice before firing another pair of arrows at the spawn. The first goes completely over the thing, but the second hits. (Whether it actually penetrates or not, well....)
Arrow #1: 1d20 + 8 + 2 + 2 + 1 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (1) + 8 + 2 + 2 + 1 + 1 - 2 = 13
Arrow #2: 1d20 + 8 + 2 + 2 + 1 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (8) + 8 + 2 + 2 + 1 + 1 - 2 = 20
Just in case #2 hits:
Arrow #2 damage: 1d8 + 1 + 2d6 ⇒ (6) + 1 + (5, 4) = 16

Valiard Tessar |

Eyes round with fear and surprise at the tentacled monstrosity before them, Valiard nearly runs in horrified panic, right until he feels the priest's healing energy wash over him.
I don't think I can get past it...perhaps one of the potions can help in some way...it isn't as if I am going to provide any assistance to the team anyways... he thinks as he backs away towards the back wall of the hall.
He fumbles in his pocket looking for one of the potions that he had taken, which he sniffs, (Profession: herbalist, this isn't poison, but a potion 1d20 + 7 - 2 ⇒ (20) + 7 - 2 = 25), then quaffs.

Mireza |

No roll above 7... kill me creature, kill me now
Hey, at least a natural 7 equates to a 23 (or 21) for you. ;)
Mireza maintains her concentration on the frogs and slowly draws her crossbow.
Standard action: maintain concentration; move action: draw crossbow

Arrow #2 damage: 1d8 + 1 + 2d6 ⇒ (1) + 1 + (3, 1) = 6
Well, at least they hit.

Iozef Kolnikov |

Iozef is relentless in his endeavor of channeling healing energies for the others. "A wise course of action Mr. Thetra has advised, Mr. Tessar. If you will allow yourself to become another target for the creature, that will divide its attacks and Mr. Vachkov will not have to take the brunt of them." Iozef explains as best he can due to the creature having him constrained so.
Channel Energy: 3d6 ⇒ (3, 2, 2) = 7
Dang this just keeps getting worse. :(
Channel Energy 5/7 used

Valiard Tessar |

Now that I am displaced can I get past the creature? Since CMD is an active effect, I imagine that I should get the 50% miss chance to tumble past it applied as well, since it can't quite figure out where I am.
Now let's see this thing stop me! Valiard thinks, hope rising within him.
Seeing a gap within the tentacles as the creature flails at Grigor, Valiard lunges forward, tucking and rolling in an attempt to pass through the space before it vanishes.
Acrobatics to get past Spawny 1d20 + 9 - 2 ⇒ (7) + 9 - 2 = 14
Acrobatics to get past Spawny 1d20 + 9 - 2 ⇒ (13) + 9 - 2 = 20

Deimus |

Unfortunately, no, it applies as a defensive measure vs attacks, AoO, CMBs, but not when you attack.

Mireza |

Making an Acrobatics check to move through an enemy's square isn't attacking, though, so the 50% miss chance ought to apply to the Spawn's AoO. The thing is, you can move through a threatened square even if you provoke an AoO; you just take the damage and move anyway. But the text for moving through an enemy's actual space is, "If you attempt to move though an enemy's space and fail the check, you lose the move action and provoke an attack of opportunity." So even if the AoO misses, due to displacement or just a low roll, you still end up back where you started by RAW if your Acrobatics roll doesn't meet the DC. :(

Deimus |

Yeah, I had read the "move through" part. You need to succeed. There's Overrun, but too large in that case... Large creatures often have very high CMDs. And the sickened condition doesn't help either.

Deimus |

No, there is room above it, but it threatens the space, without being in it.

Deimus |

Grigor and Mireza are up.

Deimus |

DMPCing Mireza and Grigor.
Round 6: The Heroes of Carrion Hill
"Valiard! Can you help the Crow hit this thing?" There's no panic in the inquisitor's voice, just a focus that borders on the pathological as he looses two more arrows at the unnatural monstrosity facing the group.
The arrows sink deep, and the beast feels the pain this time.
Iozef is relentless in his endeavor of channeling healing energies for the others. "A wise course of action Mr. Thetra has advised, Mr. Tessar. If you will allow yourself to become another target for the creature, that will divide its attacks and Mr. Vachkov will not have to take the brunt of them." Seeing a gap within the tentacles as the creature flails at Grigor, Valiard lunges forward, tucking and rolling in an attempt to pass through the space before it vanishes.
Unfortunately, this time again, the herbalist can’t find an opening to slip into.
Grigor’s steel flashes left and right at the tentacles, looking for an opening in the ancient evil’s core.
1d20 + 14 ⇒ (9) + 14 = 233d6 + 2 ⇒ (2, 5, 6) + 2 = 15
1d20 + 9 ⇒ (2) + 9 = 113d6 + 2 ⇒ (5, 4, 1) + 2 = 12
The ranger comes close, but cannot secure a strike.
Mireza, crossbow in hand, maintains her control of the swarm.
Round 6: The Spawn of Yog-Sothoth
The Spawn fights back in a mad fury, tentacles darting in hungry desperation for flesh and soul.
G:1d20 + 11 ⇒ (7) + 11 = 181d8 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16
G:1d20 + 10 ⇒ (6) + 10 = 161d6 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 51d20 + 13 + 4 - 20 ⇒ (20) + 13 + 4 - 20 = 17
G:1d20 + 10 ⇒ (18) + 10 = 281d6 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 71d20 + 13 + 4 - 20 ⇒ (17) + 13 + 4 - 20 = 14

I: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (20) + 10 = 301d6 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 51d20 + 13 + 4 - 20 ⇒ (20) + 13 + 4 - 20 = 17
Confirm I: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (1) + 10 = 111d6 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 51d20 + 13 + 4 - 20 ⇒ (14) + 13 + 4 - 20 = 11
The tentacles mostly miss the ranger, but for one. In the same manner, the pharasman priest also suffers a blow that again wraps around him. (-5 hp to Grigor, -7 hp to Iozef)
The conjured frogs leap and bite all over the alien body, Damage: 2d6 ⇒ (3, 3) = 6

Grigor Vachkov |

Die!! Why won't you DIE?!!!, Grigor howls, beginning to gibber.
1d20 + 11 + 2 + 2 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (1) + 11 + 2 + 2 + 1 - 2 = 15
3d6 + 4 - 2 ⇒ (1, 4, 5) + 4 - 2 = 12
Confirmation (if such a thing exists)

3d6 + 4 - 2 ⇒ (1, 3, 2) + 4 - 2 = 8
... and again attacks.

3d6 + 4 - 2 ⇒ (6, 6, 1) + 4 - 2 = 15
Confirmation
1d20 + 6 + 2 + 2 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (3) + 6 + 2 + 2 + 1 - 2 = 12
3d6 + 4 - 2 ⇒ (4, 1, 5) + 4 - 2 = 12
Guys... I think we need to take a page from Lovecrafts heros and run

Valiard Tessar |

Valiard looks around and spies the chairs and table. Then he looks back at the furniture, then back at the creature.
Why not...we are going to die anyways...
Valiard swings the chair closer to the creature, takes a few steps back, then runs forward, up the chair, planting his feet on the top of it and pushes off into a tuck and jump to clear the creature.
Acrobatics DC10 to cross 10 feet of monster/airspace and land on the other side 1d20 + 9 - 2 ⇒ (20) + 9 - 2 = 27
Now I get a 20....well I hope we flank it now.

Deimus |

Awesome!
Windle and Mireza are up!

Windle Thetra |

The inquisitor smiles tightly at Valiard's skill. "Well done." Then he uses his last round of bane magic to imbue a final pair of arrows; both hit, but one may not have penetrated the creature's hide.
Arrow #1 on spawn: 1d20 + 8 + 2 + 2 + 1 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (20) + 8 + 2 + 2 + 1 + 1 - 2 = 32
Arrow #2 on spawn: 1d20 + 8 + 2 + 2 + 1 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (8) + 8 + 2 + 2 + 1 + 1 - 2 = 20
Confirm crit, arrow #1 on spawn: 1d20 + 8 + 2 + 2 + 1 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (6) + 8 + 2 + 2 + 1 + 1 - 2 = 18
Damage, arrow #1: 1d8 + 1 + 2d6 ⇒ (3) + 1 + (5, 6) = 15
Damage, arrow #2 (if applicable): 1d8 + 1 + 2d6 ⇒ (1) + 1 + (4, 2) = 8

Deimus |

Grigor keeps the beast busy and away from Windle as Iozef maintains his healing power. Valiard, in a desperate attempt, moves with a perfect timing and somersault above the beast, landing behind it.
And then, Windle's arrow strikes it as it is about to lash once more at the Concerned Citizens of Carrion Hill. The shafts, infused with eldritch energy and attuned to the abberration, lands deep and severs its last connection to this realm.
As the Spawn dies, it roars in outrage, your body and soul shaking from the pressure of its hatred, and then it quickly slops away into a foul-smelling mess, leaving behind only a noxious, crusty stain of white powder on the ground, underneath a layer of tiny frogs leaping and biting...
Eerily, its death is marked by a sickening sigh that seems to shudder up from the very earth itself, as if something even deeper under Carrion Hill were mourning the spawn’s death. As the sigh reverberates, it is taken up by an even greater noise from above. You make your way to the surface, to watch as wheeling storms of crows descend back to the city’s rooftops, cawing and shrieking and cackling in a cacophony that lasts forever.
Hours will pass before the crows calm and resume their normal behaviour.
The rain doesn't seem to notice though, and keeps falling in buckets over the city.
