What? Half-Elf Writer 1 / Dancer 1 / Chemist 1

Welcome one and welcome all.

I will get on a mechanics audit (which I can complete after everyone has dotted in) for you guys before we jump into any real action, but I'd like to ask three things of you while I handle this, get all my ducks in a row, and write up the first few encounters.

1. I'd like a short description of where your character lives. Use the map, tell me what area of what neighborhood your character lives in, and what your character's house is like. Also, tell me if anyone lives with them and who they are.

2. I'd like you guys to double-check if your characters know each other already, and under what circumstances.

3. I'd like you to dot into the Gameplay thread. I'd like, as your first post, a post about the kind of night that your character has on an average Oathday evening.

Checking in with Paige.

Since she's only recently turned adult, even if she's no longer a ward of the church she still lives at the temple in the Heights District due to her employment there. It's a tiny little room personal room that she has crammed full of books and little trinkets she holds onto just because she wasn't really allowed much in the way of personal belongings under Lamm. As far as people she lives with, I guess the whole of the Sarenite clergy in the city.

Grats to y'all, looking forward to seeing everyone's character's in play and how everyone interacts.

Edit: Living and stuff!

Darius lives in Old Korvosa near the old docks. He rents a small place cheap in the floor above a small sundry goods shop, with the understanding that he's responsible for security late in the evenings if something happens. He had a few run-ins early upon his arrival to Korvosa with would-be burglars, but after developing a reputation in the area and having delivered both of the attempted burglars to the guard, they've left the shop alone. The other half of the floor is home to the shop keeper himself, a Varisian ex-sailor in his 70's named Emilian.

Dotting in

1) The deGrey family estate is in Eastshore. It is a traditional manor house overlooking the river and has both an upper and lower hall. Besides the standard amenities found within the estate also has an unusually large and well-kept garden that starts out at the courtyard and spreads around the perimeter. The iron fence surrounding the property is referred to as the forest gate by locals as a result.

Currently Atticus is the only deGrey watching the property along with a handful of house servants. The youngest generation are abroad while those serving in the courts as retainers are cared for by their benefactors. That said any of the family are permitted to return to their ancestral home whenever they please.

2) Save Anguela who we already established as having met, I'd actually prefer not to have met the other players. I have a good idea of how I'd want to introduce myself. That said, if someone really wants to link backstories or something I don't have an issue with it.

Yeah even though we both mutually know Field Marshall Croft, I think she'd be the sort to keep those things separate, so it makes sense that even Darius and Atticus wouldn't know each other.

Anguela and Darius have obviously interacted before as per Anguela's post. I'll write up a blurb sometime today about Darius's view of the same to complete it.

If Mackeson is fine with it, I'll stick with Darius knowing him and being cordial. He obviously is too cynical to believe addicts are ever not addicts, but as long as he continues helping others, Darius isn't going to press the issue.

As far as Portia and Paige go, he's unlikely to know either. He doesn't hang with nobles, and he definitely doesn't attend church anymore. He likely has heard of the Silver Ghost, but he is ambivalent about Vigilantes. On one hand he knows that sometimes the law fails, and vigilantes can help there, but he has issues with them behaving as if they are above the law, which seems to be the case with The Silver Ghost.

G'morning.

Thanks for the invite, friend. :) I'm incredibly honored to have been chosen. This should be fun!

I'll answer your questions and such later. Make aliases yadda yadda.

@Paige -

I like your idea of being a contact for charity with Portia. Let's go with that! Portia specifically sought out Paige to make a large donation after she was turned away for one by her own parents. She's come back a few times since, the sizes of her donations varying from very large to small (basically whatever sum she felt like could get away with from her allowance). Each time she's insisted total anonymity for her donation, which is unusual - normally when nobles make donations of such sums they expect some sort of plaque, gala, or otherwise some sort of recognition for their charity so that they can basically wave their wealth around at other nobles. But not Portia. But really, it wouldn't be too odd, given that Paige remembers that her parents don't necessarily agree with her charity.

Her impression of Paige so far is positive though their relationship so far has been pretty much transactional. She would treat her cordially when they meet - and both Portia and Paige are charismatic women. The two are around the same age, and Paige has devoted her life to serving the poor and underserved in a way that Portia wishes she could. In a sense - she envies her for that - the ability to work so openly. Of course, this envy is misplaced. Portia doesn't understand (nor can she fathom) the pain and darkness of Paige's history. And of course, the only thing keeping Portia from living a life of public charity like Paige, is Portia herself.

@leinathan -

I think I want to de-age Portia to 18, as long as you think that, culturally, it wouldn't be off for her to use drinking/partying as an alibi for her evening shenanigans at that age. She's modeled as a "teenage hero" archetype, so I want her to be young. Thoughts?

Also, I want to note that Portia's initial hook (her missing nephew) was written vaguely so that you don't necessarily have to re-use the Gaedren Lamm adventure, but does neatly fit into that plot should you decide to. He could have been kidnapped by any villain for any purpose, and perhaps is even dead. He's the son of a noble family so it is odd that they haven't received a ransom yet after all... but perhaps they just hadn't gotten it out yet. I trust you you to surprise me ;)

Finally had the time to look over some backstories and peek out around things. I agree with Darius about there not really being space for him and Paige to meet, I'm fine with letting Atticus keep things fresh, Anguela and Paige move in wildly different circles and likely wouldn't have interacted before, Portia is already settled, so that leaves...

Mackeson and Paige both throw time into trying to help out in the slums of the city, so I could see them running into each other here and there, and at least having a bit of common ground between their interest in tattoos, their faithful convictions, and in the sense both have been in some very low places and pulled their ways up from them.

@Kiora: Yeah, that would work perfectly! Paige would definitely agree to keep things secret and be a convincing enough speaker that nobody would really ask questions when she sometimes brings back mystery donations. It would probably make Paige's side of their casual interactions on the street a bit more genuinely warm rather than "I'm being nice because kindness reaps kindness" sort of thing, especially if they're a bit closer in age.

Hi everyone! Excited about playing this adventure path with you all.

Atticus and Darius, you're very kind to agree to canonize my little stories as background. If you're at all uncomfortable with any aspect of them, please let me know! I figured they would be at most "loose canon" until authorized by you. :)

Anguela lives on the third storey of a magic shop in the Midland district, "Curiosities Noctis," located just across the street from Drake's Square, the park that juts out of the northwest border into The Heights. It is a simple wooden structure with white stucco and heavy angled boards for support. The ground floor is gaudily decorated with wards and arcane symbols all around the outside, and a fenced garden with a locked greenhouse in the back. There is an outdoor stair on the side of the building that leads to the second floor, where Gareth Noctis lives with his wife Serena, and continues to the third floor, where Anguela lives. Anguela's rooms are very messy, typically strewn with laundry and dirty dishes next to half-finished books. The Noctises also employ two young assistants in the store, who possibly come from the slums originally if you need more hooks.

1. The Cilliathis estate is in South Shore, where the property is cheaper than up in the Heights, yet offers more room for their estate to stretch out. A large two-story brick mansion with 36 rooms and white columns, and 5 acres of parterre gardens. Inside, the mansion has 15 foot high ceilings with a Galt rock-crystal chandelier in the elegant entry hall. The Cillathis family is an esteemed sponsor of the arts, and possesses one of the largest collections of Fabergé eggs in the Inner Sea. Adjacent to the mansion is a large stable, where they keep a dozen thoroughbred holsteiner horses.

Portia's room is on the second floor in the East Hall. She keeps her costume and tools hidden in a secret panel in her shoe closet. Her curtains and bedding are blue and white. When she wishes to change into the Silver Ghost, she dresses in her room and exits through the window, which is adjacent to a large tree. Using the garden for cover, she makes her way out into the streets.

In addition to the Cilliathis estate, Portia's family owns a few rental properties (apartment complexes) in Midland and Northpoint. Her family travels a lot, and they own smaller estates in Magnimar and Kaer Maga, as well as a summer home along the beach just north of Sandpoint.

I'm going to detail some NPCs that exist in Portia's staff and family:

Cilliathis Family:

Portia's great-grandfather, Henri, moved to Korvosa in 4,600 AR from Taldor. He was only the second son of a minor family in Taldor and Portia's family no longer maintains strong ties to their relatives back in Oppara - having lost much of their good will for moving to what was considered a "backwater" in Varisia. Nonetheless he brought his considerable wealth and used it to acquire large swaths of land, slowly building his family's fortune from much less.

Today, the Ciliathis family mostly grows its money by investing in other businesses across Varisia. Their family crest is a white raven against a navy blue tower. Over the tower are three stars.

Portia's family and staff:

  • Louise Cilliathis is Portia's father. He is balding and grey bearded. He is a no-nonsense sort of man though he is far too engrossed in his family's business to really keep tabs on Portia, though he did pay for the finest tutors available when she was young to provide a good education for her. Currently he hopes to find a suitable husband for Portia, as he did for Antionette before her.
  • Lia Cilliathis is Portia's mother. She is an older woman but is aging well. The daughter of a priestess of Shelyn, she has a special love for the arts. She proved to have a sharp mind for business and her opinion on financial matters is well regarded by her husband, so she always accompanies him on business to provide her own insight. In her free time she is a patron of the arts, and enjoys commissioning art of all kinds to display in her home. She wishes Portia would show more of an interest in the family business.
  • Antionette Cilliathis Cardevac is Portia's older sister. She is married to Gerard Cardevac, a man whose family earned their wealth through trade, and they live in a modest estate in Northpoint. They own a number of warehouses and ships along the Jeggare river. Though her marriage was partially arranged, she is happy. Together Gerard and Antionette have a two year old daughter, Marie, and a seven year old son, Markus, though Markus has recently gone missing...
  • Ajenko Laoris is the family butler. He is a wiry man with a long face, slicked back black hair, and a hooked nose. He is the highest ranking servant in the estate, and manages all the others.
  • Alethia Alavanni is Antionette's personal handmaiden. She handles changing her linens, cleaning her clothes, preparing her baths and so on. She is only a year younger than Portia. Her room is in the room across from hers. The two have a good relationship, having basically grown up together. She worries that Portia has started to become preoccupied with partying so often lately, though she suspects its because she has a secret boyfriend, not because she is a vigilante. In addition to Alethia, the estate houses four other housemaids.
  • Avud Kreslik is the Cilliathis family house gatekeeper. He commands a small force of six guards that patrol the property and watch for burglars. Little does he know that Portia has loosened one of the iron bars behind a hedge on the western side of the property, allowing easy access to and from the estate. He is a tall, muscular man with coal black hair and dark brown eyes.
  • Barras Rustford is a gnomish groundskeeper with startling violet hair. He is in charge of maintaining the gardens. His pride and joy is a small section of the grounds that is cultivated in the classical Tien style, as inspired by his travels to the far East. Sheltered by red maple and cherry blossom trees and containing a small koi pond, the garden is decorated by stone lanterns, brightly painted pagodas, symbolic animals, and authentic stone statues imported from Tian Xia. Cheerful and talkative, he is happy to talk the ear off of anyone interested in his profession, though when he gets excited he talks so fast it is hard to understand him.
  • Dannor Claig is the family chef. Classically trained in Oppara after serving 15 years in the Taldane military, he specializes in seafood - and often laments that he cannot get specimens of quality of his liking so far from the sea. Broad-shouldered and brutish, Dannor has a square jaw and calloused hands. He doesn't like to talk about how he got his gruesome facial scar.
  • Derrah Ramm is the marshal, who is in change of maintaining the horses. She lives on the grounds with her wife, Jura, and their adopted son, Iosef, who serves as a stableboy. Derrah is a statuesque woman with yellow eyes and wavy black hair - her wife, a slight woman with mousy brown hair and kind eyes.

2. Portia + other player characters

  • Paige - See previous post.
  • Darius - Well, Darius hunts criminals. The Silver Ghost hunts criminals. I'd say there's a fair chance they met, but if you'd rather make your introductions in the game, that's fair. Portia so far has only really stopped very minor crimes, though her crowning achievement was putting away a serial murderer-rapist that had eluded all that were hunting him. So even if he doesn't think much of vigilantes, I'd think that would have earned her a bit of respect from him.
  • Anguela - From what I can tell, Anguela and Portia don't fly in the same circles. Anguela is a relative newcomer to the city and is hiding in a store under a different name. Portia isn't a mage, also, so I don't think she'd be familiar with Curiosities Noctis.
  • Atticus - Portia would have heard rumors of an eccentric, high-born knight who tends to an estate filled with extravagant flowers, but the two have never crossed paths.
  • Mackeson - I feel that the Cilliathis family would have worked with his family in the past, perhaps, through trade, or by offering a loan to help support a new buisness venture. But that's kind of a boring connection to hinge on. Since Paige is familiar with Portia's social identity, I would like at least one PC to be familiar with her vigilante identity. How do you feel about having had a brief interaction in the past? See spoiler below:

Portia/Mackeson:

One night Portia received a visit by a ghost - a woman by the name of Karissa Broslef. Gaunt, with her arms covered in scars from shiver injections, she came to her crying for her to save the life of her boyfriend, Jasvel.

Karissa and Jasvel were respectable people once... she was a barmaid at a local pub, and Jasvel worked as a courier. But they knew the wrong people, and as sometimes happens, their vices amplified each others. Two years later they found themselves hopelessly addicted to drugs, living out of a scummy apartment in Old Korvosa.

Then Karissa died. Overdose. Passed away in the night, choked on her own vomit. And Jasvel, stricken with grief and guilt over her death, didn't think he could live without her.

The Silver Ghost kicked down the door to his apartment to find him slumped on the ground, shivering from the effects of a lethal overdose of Shiver. Unlike seeing ghosts, saving someone from overdose was not one of Portia's talents, and she knew that there was a chance that even a hospital would refuse to admit some strung out addict. Thankfully, the ghost of Karissa helped guide her to Mackeson's shop. Dropping his convulsing body on his doorstep, the Silver Ghost pleaded to the dwarf for help. Having a long history with the stuff, Mackeson knew what to do to resuscitate him, saving his life. She stayed long enough to make sure that Jasvel would live through the night, then left, after offering the strange, unkempt dwarf her sincere thanks, but no explanation as to how she found him in the first place.

So how is it that we are adventuring normally with Portia? Will she be appearing as the silver ghost unannounced?

The Silver Ghost is currently looking for her missing nephew. She has no clues, so she plans to approach the town guard, hoping to find information. She has decent rapport with them, because she doesn't kill criminals, and because she stopped a serial rapist a few months ago, leaving him with the guard to prosecute.

That being said, she isn't the type to come to a party, unless it somehow would help her attain some goal. She spends a lot of her time avoiding parties, actually. But that doesn't mean you can't do that with the other PCs :)

Anguela: Here ya go. Lemme know if there's anything that needs tweaking to represent her better.

Darius and Anguela:
Darius didn't usually hire himself out as a private guard or escort. Didn't do anything to keep order really, and it was usually dull. Of course when money was running short and there were few prospects available to keep him in his cups, that didn't usually got pretty lax. This time some family had hired him to travel all the way to Kaer Maga and back escorting a caravan carrying some snobbish noblewoman who was bound for Korvosa. The trip was long, and to be blunt, boring, so it despite his best efforts to just ignore the woman, he eventually relented and shared some stories with her.

The remainder of the ride wasn't intolerable. Anguela, the noblewoman, was actually almost indefatigably charming, a combination of natural charisma and noble upbringing. At some point the conversation turned to rule of law in the city and succession. While he generally tried to stay out of the high-level politics of nobles and birthright, he'd readily discussed his thoughts on the strengths of the guard and their failings. While it was certainly possible that Anguela was merely adept at hiding her intentions, it seemed to Darius that her demeanor changed after that conversation.

Shortly thereafter he parted ways with the carriage. He'd seen them off and wished Anguela well then, heading home quickly to enjoy his earnings. For whatever reason they'd only hired him to get within a short distance of the city. It'd raised his suspicion originally, and he'd spent a bit of time looking into the Noctis family trying to determine if they had any ties to anything shady. In the end, however, he'd concluded that it was simply the oddities of the various noble houses playing against each other. The pay had been fair and the work honestly not nearly as much of a chore as he'd thought it would be.

In the end he let the family know he would be available if they needed help again. Despite his general disinterest in dealing with nobility and politics, he appreciated her openness on the topic of order within Korvosa and the problems the city was facing. Given that it was inevitable he'd need to hire out again at some point, he figured he might as well do it to a family that had earned a measure of his respect.

Portia: If the Silver Ghost regularly turns in criminals to the guard, then that's a definite positive. If she takes matters beyond that as a vigilante, it's a definite negative.

So far, Portia hasn't killed anyone...or anything for that matter. But she does consider herself above the law, and will break into homes chasing a lead, destroy property on accident, etc.

Well, to be fair Darius 'investigates' people's homes when it's necessary. But as long as collateral damage has been minimal and the criminals have been processed through the system then I suppose it's reasonable to assume he's at least heard and has a not-negative opinion of the Silver Ghost. He's still not overly keen on the idea of masked vigilantes.

@Kiora - It's fine for Portia to be young. Being rich gives her privileges that commoners don't have. Nobles' reaction to her drunken partying is more likely to be creepy than not, and commoners' reaction will most likely be harsh judgment.

@Everyone, but especially @Darius, can you throw up how many ranks you have in each skill if you don't already?

Using the base Herolab statblock, it works well to just put it in brackets after the skill name, like this:

Disable Device [2] +7 (+9 with tools), Knowledge (arcana) [8] +18, Knowledge (dungeoneering) [1] +11, Knowledge (engineering) [3] +13, Knowledge (geography) [5] +15

When you have different numbers of ranks in different skills, it makes it hard to figure out whether you have the right bonus or not. Also, can you all throw up an Armor Check Penalty line after your skills are done?

Can you also all put somewhere on your sheets where your favored class bonuses are going? It isn't always obvious for me, thanks.

@Atticus - Just checking, the order (Scarlet Sentinels) that you've joined is what's given you Scarlet Throne as a discipline that's available, right? It's not listed in the benefits that you get from your discipline. I'd appreciate if (assuming that's true) you could add it so that I won't get confused when I look again in the future.

@Anguela - Can you list your ability scores as the effective total, rather than have the racial modifiers separate? It's a little disorienting for me to look at.

Similarly, can you list your skills as ranks/total bonus in a way that is obviously separate? It's a little confusing when none of the numbers in your skills section are the actual bonuses that you have. Something like this: Knowledge (arcana) [1] +5, <- means one rank and a +5 bonus.

You appear to have paid half price for one scroll of blessing of the watch, but don't appear to have Scribe Scroll. Is there a reason for that?

@Portia - Can you parenthetical her Diplomacy? As far as I can see, it is only +11 in her social persona, which means it ought to read "+7 (+11 in social persona)".

Alright, as long as she doesn't have to hide it. Like, in American culture, 18 year olds drink and party, but it's something they have to hide from adults due to legal restrictions on drinking. It doesn't make sense to hide her secret life with another secret life :P

Yup, not a problem. I've been trying to massage herolab into producing custom statblocks with more information, but sadly their "custom statblock" code can't access everything their bbcode statblock can.

Ok, I went through and added the ranks as requested to the in-statblock list of skills. I also added a 'maths' section at the end to work everything out in detail, like I have on Isilme.

Also I realized that I spent 16 pb on int and 12 pb + 2 racial on cha. If I switch to 14 pb + 2 racial on int and 14 pb on cha, I end up with 2 extra points to spend, which I'm putting into con.

Edit: Oh, I meant to ask: Is it possible to remove gauntlets/gloves to negate the ACP bonus to disable device? If so, what kind of action is it, and what kind of penalty is applied to armor while they're off?

Skill ranks have now been put in, and I realize I'd miscalculated a little on the skill ranks, so I went and tidied those up a bit.

I altered my Maneuvers list to reflect that I draw from scarlet throne rather than solar wind. All of my skills have the same ranks and aren't effected by ACP but I will put in skill ranks nonetheless.

I adjusted my skills (in my stat block) to include the asked-for information, and indicated that I had taken 1 extra hp and 1 extra skill point from favoured class bonuses.

@Darius: If we're just collegial, I don't know if you know so much about his history as an addict. Mackeson is aloof with his personal information unless he trusts someone. We likely have run into each other a-plenty as you've been drinking your daily wages and Mackeson has been "praying". He also likely knows that you're a "man-for-hire" type of person, and you know that Mackeson is an independent "problem-solver" himself.

@Paige: Mackeson has likely listened with rapt interest about your desire to free Lamm's Lambs from their servitude. He may have even brainstormed some plans with you about it while....perhaps (with your permission, of course)....creating one of your tattoos?

Knowledge Religion (to create Sarenrite iconography): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21
Craft Tattoo: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25

See? I'm not too shabby at my work!

@Portia: I think your connection to Mackeson is solid, but perhaps the Silver Ghost left something behind at Mackeson's place - one of her calling-cards - that he's now trying to find more information about? Of note, Mackeson operates as a tattoo artist out of the Pantheon of Many in South Shore, so that might be where you brought Jasvel.

@Anguela and @Atticus: I don't think Mackeson knows either of you two.

More in a bit!

Mackeson: That's a pretty good point. My assumption was that the heavy toll they took on him showed physically, given the description of how midnight milk and pesh had affected him. However if neither of those drugs are common in Korvosa it's perfectly reasonable to assume that Darius wouldn't be familiar with their side-effects, and hence not link them to Mackeson's appearance. If so, then it's likely Darius is significantly friendlier, especially if he frequents the pubs and taverns of the city.

@Darius: On the other hand, Mackeson probably seems like a character with a dark past - it wouldn't be difficult to poke around and come up with someone who knew about Mackeson's time as a shiver fiend. He wouldn't talk openly about it, though. I think collegial is just fine - and maybe friendlier once the ale has been poured.

Mackeson has two boats maintained as flop-pads - leaky canoes in reality, and neither is fit to live in, but live in them he does. One is tethered to West Dock, a drunken stumble from the Bailer's Retreat, and the other is tied to Old Dock. The location of the Old Dock canoe gets moved about a bit as Mackeson is able due to local criminal activities. The West Dock canoe is in the shadow of a pier loomed over by Citadel Volshyenek - it doesn't often get noticed. Mackeson prefers the canoes to any set housing because of their mobility - he doesn't make many friends in his secondary line of work, and often has to consider vengeance-seekers. When Mackeson is in one of his canoes, he's asleep, usually with a tarp drawn up over his boat to keep out the elements, vermin, and prying eyes. When he's awake, he's about town.

Of course, there are nights when he doesn't make it home, due to his primary or his secondary duties. It's part of the job.

And, as clarification of the obvious, Mackeson lives by himself.

@GM: If you'd like that Mackeson has purchased the canoes, then I'll forego his two alchemist's fire vials (40gp total) in place of the two (crappy) canoes and I'll put them on my HeroLab and stat profile. If you're ok with them being gifted or lent to Mackeson by grateful people that he's taken care of, then I won't consider them as his possessions. Just let me know your ruling.

Thanks for your answers and adjustments :)

I'm filling out the Campaign Info tab and will be able to post my own first post, dragging you guys into the action soon.

I'd just like to confirm/bring up some houserules, and I also need to spend some time writing down the NPCs that you've already put down. Before we start, I will also put give you guys info on NPCs that you are likely already familiar with in the city.

This table is using automatic bonus progression.

In addition, I commonly use the following houserules:

1. When crafting, adding 5 to the Spellcraft DC in exchange for ignoring a pre-requisite is not allowed. You must fulfill all prerequisites for magic item creation.

2. Weapons and armor attunement from automatic bonus progression are not counted against you when buying special qualities for your weapons. You do not lose the enhancement bonus if you buy a special quality.

3. When you attempt a combat maneuver, it does not provoke an attack of opportunity unless it fails. If you possess the relevant "Improved" feat, it does not provoke an attack of opportunity at all.

4. I would also like to implement the feat tax rules.

This should give a few of you (Atticus, Portia) a bonus feat to replace one that is granted for free. It also will change Paige's Weapon Focus (scimitars) to Weapon Focus (heavy blades) and Mackeson's Weapon Focus (kukri) to Weapon Focus (light blades).

@Mackeson -

Sounds great! And I was referring to his tattoo parlor in the vignette :)

Her calling card is a silver coin that's been pressed flat and engraved with "SG". She also uses silver tipped arrows with blue fletching, but that's more of a calling card she leaves with criminals :P

@ GM

Swapping out point-blank shot for precise shot then, since that is why I wanted it to begin with :p

@SilverGhost: Mackeson doesn't have a tattoo parlour. He operates as a tattooist out of the Pantheon of Many. You could have found him there, but there are lots of other people there, day and night. You likely found him at one of his boats, either in Old Dock or West Dock. I'll assume that he has one of her silver coins.

The newspaper does not specify how the King died.

Do we have any idea who is currently the king's heir? I would think that would be a question that is very important to people who follow the royal family, especially because he doesn't have any children.

What? Half-Elf Writer 1 / Dancer 1 / Chemist 1

What do you mean? The Queen is the King's air.

He has no siblings and no children, and his parents are dead.

F Human Oracle 1/Sorcerer 1 | HP 17/17, 1 NL | AC 18 Touch 14 FF 14 CMD 12 | F+1 R+4 W+2* | Init +6 | Per +6 | Buffs: mage armor | Conditions: none

I've done some digging into this, and it looks like the author just assumed that she would take over the kingdom, even though that's not how succession usually works. Titles usually pass through the blood, so they go to children and if there aren't any children they go back to siblings and their children, and then back again to their parents' siblings, and so on. So if Queen Domina didn't have any other heirs, the title would usually go to the previous king's heirs, in this case Anguela. If Anguela's family's existence were publicly known, she would have a legitimate claim on the throne.

The dowager queen (dowager means she has the title from her dead husband) usually has no rights after the king dies, because as far as the Peers are concerned she is just somebody the king married, presumably to produce heirs. If they have children she is usually styled as the queen mother. While he's alive she's usually called the queen consort. These all apply to queen's husbands too, so it isn't necessarily sexist.

Obviously, that's not the story we're telling here. :) A suggestion I read elsewhere on these boards was that the late king named Ileosa as his heir before he died. That's a little controversial, because while a king can do that, the Peers of the realm can dispute it and may not honor his wishes if there's another clear heir. It makes a regicide charge much more serious and can quickly lead to civil war. But in a case like this where there aren't any other obvious heirs, the nobles might go along with it.

What? Half-Elf Writer 1 / Dancer 1 / Chemist 1

That's some interesting digging. Here's a couple things.

1. There really isn't a clear heir. Eodred had no siblings, and no children, which means no cousins or nephews or anything either.

2. The controversy surrounding Ileosa's rise to the throne is actually an important plot point, and the different groups vying for power and resulting anarchy and conflict is kind of... the whole point of the AP. However, the people who are actually in power (like the castle steward, Neolandus Kalepopolis, the Korvosan Guard, the King's powerful servants), at least officially, support Ileosa at the beginning due to her status as the King's only real successor.

However, if for some reason you'd like to announce Anguela's bloodline now, I mean, you're free to do so.

I think it's more interesting if Anguela is waiting for direction from her family's allies (and gnashing her teeth at the delay). She might know she's the heir, but recognizes there's no point announcing it if she doesn't have the support of the nobles and the people. Like you said, that's sort of the whole point of the adventure path. :)

To avoid holding up combat unnecessarily.

Combat Pre-roll:

The Silver Ghost frowns when her shot lands right in the half-orc's armor. Damn it. Just an inch to the right...

But she doesn't have time to really contemplate that when one of the thugs heads straight for her. Shifting her bow to her left hand (the arm on which she wields her buckler) she draws her rapier with her right. She waits for an opening, drawing upon years of fencing training, before stepping forward with a vicious lunge.

Rapier vs Thug (Power Attack): 1d20 + 5 - 1 ⇒ (15) + 5 - 1 = 19
Damage (Power Attack): 1d6 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 + 2 = 7

Mackeson, what weapon are you using?

I took a look at your profile - kukri has a 1d4 damage dice.

Also! Can Atticus and Paige put the header in their profile? It should have: Health (current and total), AC, CMD, saves, Initiative, Perception, and any special defenses or senses I should know about at a glance.

Thanks.

Warpriest Melee damage with their sacred weapon is based on their level, not the weapon. I have weapon focus on light blades and I’m a medium creature, so any light blade that I use would do 1d6 damage.

I had to read the rules 3x on it until I got it, but HeroLab was a good guide.
