Elek Kardforgató |
Ok did we sail into endhome and meet the boy on the pier or did we walk/ride into endhome and meet the boy at the gate?
Do we know each other? if we do lets figure out why.
Are we walking or riding? I don't care either way but if we are riding I need to invest a couple of skill points that way and acquire a mount.
Oh hey brvheart thanks for running another game.
Thinking about making Elek a half-orc to go with the theme.

ok, very sorry about the waffling, I wasn't happy with how I thought Elek should fit, so I decided to go a different direction, I have never played a half-orc, and don't play clerics much, so I thought I would give this a try.
Vaunu is a cleric of Sefagreth (God of Commerce, Trade, and Cities) His parents were both half-orc caravan guards. Vaunu grew up worshiping Seagreth and chose to be a member of his clergy. He is also the local representative of HOSTAG, Half-Orc Security and Transportation Administration Guild. That's right folks, they have a teamsters union.

Tarkus Shieldsplitter |

My concept for Tarkus is he is doing the dwarven equivalent of Rumspringa. Tarkus is to live among the other races until he feels the call of the clan and return to settle down amongst his people.
He could have met with the others during the travel and while he will be open to discussion on many things, he is still struggling to determine what things are for dwarven ears only and what he can share.
The one thing he will always love to discuss are mechanical items and similar things.

Ok, so far we have three half-orcs a dwarf and a human right?
Monk
Rogue
Bard
Witch
Cleric

Vaunu Tarkkailija |
hey brv, you setting up roll20 tonight?
and Chainmail (Beltin) posted this character in recruitment

brvheart |

Roll20 is up such as it is. You are in Endhome so not really on the scale for character movement. Chainmail is still working on this character at present.

brvheart |

Most likely yes and however you got here for your character is fine:)

I am in a bit of a slump for thinking up a background, but I promise to improve as we get rolling. Needless to say that with all this Orcish going on, Tarkus is going to take a rank in Linguistists to pick it up at level 2.
Sort of like that scene in 13th Warrior where Bandarous' char learned the Viking tongue. :)

@ Tarkus: I usually use random results from the UC Background Generator to create a something, well, random. Then I just start plugging in something that ties it together. Even if I don't use the suggested traits and such, it gives me a start to creating a story. Take the results and run with it. That's what I did with Baalîantar.
I made a spreadsheet (ODS) ages ago that just pops out the results in a jiffy. So, here are a couple of random results from my spreadsheet if it will help:
RANDOM RESULT #1
Race: Dwarf
Class: Rogue
Homeland: Hills or Mountains. Goldsniffer race & Highlander regional traits.
Parents: Both are dead; Orphaned social trait.
Siblings: 1 biological and 0 adopted. If two or more, Kin Guardian combat trait.
Birth, Middle-Class Birth: Artisan social trait and the Merchant social trait.
Family upbringing, Soldiers: Tactician combat trait.
Childhood Event, Ordinary Childhood: Ordinary social trait.
Adolescence, Poverty: You rarely had enough food to keep from starving, and you had to steal to survive. Poverty-Stricken social trait.
Influence, The Champion: Ambitious social trait.
RANDOM RESULT #2
Race: Dwarf
Class: Rogue
Homeland: Hills or Mountains. Goldsniffer race & Highlander regional traits.
Parents: Only your mother is alive.
Siblings: 1, if two or more, Kin Guardian combat trait.
Birth, Lower-Class Birth: Poverty-Stricken social trait.
Family upbringing, Serfs/Peasants: Poverty- Stricken social trait.
Childhood Event, First Kill: Killer combat trait.
Adolescence, The Kill: You killed someone when you were young. You later made a lucrative career of assassination. Killer combat trait.
Influence, The Seer: Scholar of the Great Beyond faith trait.
Even though the results in my spreadsheet are quite short, they should be good enough for ideas for a story.

Vaunu visibly flinches at the idea of "randomness"

brvheart |

Some like to plan out their backgrounds while others are find randoming them. I am fine with either.

Madness, shear madness!
Just messing with you ;)
I do one of two things, the most common one is to build the character I want using race &race traits, feats, traits, AP and gm description and build a back story to fit it. Some times there is a character inspired by something or someone else {or a combination of them) and I try and fit that character into the confines of a class or archetype. Elathras (and Vaunu) is an example of the first: Naomi would be an example of the second.

Tarkus Shieldsplitter |

I got the idea for Tarkus from a random google image of a dwarf in a basic leather apron surrounded by misc gears and other mechanical pieces. While I know that it is just RP fluff, I always try to give the chars something to make them more than cookie cutters of the class.

brvheart |

Welcome Fibek. Come on in, the water is... errr...wellll....
Just a note all. The Lost Lands is a huge sandbox. Just because there is a rumor out there or work, does not mean it is necessarily level appropriate!

brvheart |

For those that are interested the Players Guide for Barakus is available from Frog God Games. Also just released is the Players Guide for the Sundered Kingdoms.

Baalîantar |

Wooooo! I looked at the PDF of the city map and realized I could zoom in, a lot, for a more detailed look of stuff therein.
Very nice!
A PDF version of that guide is probably all I could afford, though. Have to wait to see how fast I kiss my money goodbye with my next pension cheque. :P

brvheart |

I only have the pdf versions of the players guides for the Sundered Kingdoms myself. I do have the print copy of the source book though and the Borderlands. I intend to combine all three as best I can as they overlap here.
A note on gather into checks. You are only going to get so much info through them, especially at level one. The DCs start at 10 and go all the way up to into the 30's.

Vaunu Tarkkailija |
If I read the 'Sinnar coast region map' right the next 'fortress' north is 'Telar Brindol' it is at least 300 mile north/west, a cart or wagon travels 16 miles a day, 18.75 days, if it's exactly 300 miles.
so the question is are we going out 2,5 days and coming back or are we stocking up for three weeks, going all the way to 'Telar Brindol', restocking and coming back.
we may want more than 5 days food, just in case.

brvheart |

Probably best to stay on the Endhome area map that goes only 80 miles northwest from Endhome.

brvheart |

You are barely out of Endhome so are not liable to gain much foraging this close to the city. The forest sits on the horizon to the north, but you would not reach it until morning.
