Also, level 2 guaranteed if you avoid TPK!

Male CG Human (Reghed) Barbarian 4 (Zealot) | HP: 47/47, Temp: 0/0 | AC: 14 (currently: 14) | Per +2, Stl +3, Srv +2 | Saves: Str +6*, Dex +1, Con +5*, Int -1, Wis +0, Cha -1 | Init: +1 | Passive Perception 12 | Speed 30ft | Inspiration: No| Hit Dice: 4/4, 1d12+3 | Rage: 3/3 | Active conditions: Rage 0/10

Huzzah!

Male Half-elf 4th Level Warlock | HP 26/26 (THP 7/7) | AC 15 | Str -1, Dex +2, Con +1, Int +2, Wis +3, Cha +6 | Init +2 | PPerc 13/16 | HD 4d8 | Spells: 2/2 | Conditions: Mage Armor

I like the idea of allowing the second unarmed strike, especially since he is not doing that much damage with them to a maximum of 5 damage per round. Reynwyn can do double that on a max roll.

Also, I concur with Revjak; Huzzah!!

Max HP: 40 | AC: 19 | Saves: Str: +5; Dex: -1; Con: +5; Int: +2; Wis: +1; Cha: -1 | Init -1 | Current Damage: -0 | Inspiration: [X]

I used second wind earlier, and I don't think we've taken a short rest since then.

As far as Dual Wielding goes, I don't think that Piety's wizard-trained brain would even think about double-punching. If someone mentions it to him, he might start doing it, but I'm happy with single-punching for now.

Campaign Info tab updated (NPC spoiler and XP spoiler).

Male CG Human (Reghed) Barbarian 4 (Zealot) | HP: 47/47, Temp: 0/0 | AC: 14 (currently: 14) | Per +2, Stl +3, Srv +2 | Saves: Str +6*, Dex +1, Con +5*, Int -1, Wis +0, Cha -1 | Init: +1 | Passive Perception 12 | Speed 30ft | Inspiration: No| Hit Dice: 4/4, 1d12+3 | Rage: 3/3 | Active conditions: Rage 0/10

So we level up after this fight? Excellent!

A heads up. Between Friday 1st June and Sunday 3rd June, I won't be available at all. My availability on the Thursday and Monday is also likely to be very limited.

So realistically, I'm not likely to post much from Thursday May 31st until Tuesday June 5th.

If the fight is ongoing, Revjak will do his best to protect his allies, at any risk to himself.

This fight is over! Level up! You could also do with a rest, I'd say :)

I'm actually also unlikely to post much over this weekend, but I won't be completely off the boards...

Male CG Human (Reghed) Barbarian 4 (Zealot) | HP: 47/47, Temp: 0/0 | AC: 14 (currently: 14) | Per +2, Stl +3, Srv +2 | Saves: Str +6*, Dex +1, Con +5*, Int -1, Wis +0, Cha -1 | Init: +1 | Passive Perception 12 | Speed 30ft | Inspiration: No| Hit Dice: 4/4, 1d12+3 | Rage: 3/3 | Active conditions: Rage 0/10

Barbarian 2

HP: 1d12 ⇒ 9 +2 Con

+11 HP -> 25

Reckless Attack
Danger Sense

Edited for roll and including con bonus!

Oh, don't know if I've mentioned, but I like roll for hp but have half your HD for a minimum (plus Con bonus), so Revjak if you roll a 3 you would take a 6 (+2). That make sense? I like rolling hp, but I hate when I (or my players) get crappy rolls...

So roll up Revjak, see if you can do better than 7 :)

Male CG Human (Reghed) Barbarian 4 (Zealot) | HP: 47/47, Temp: 0/0 | AC: 14 (currently: 14) | Per +2, Stl +3, Srv +2 | Saves: Str +6*, Dex +1, Con +5*, Int -1, Wis +0, Cha -1 | Init: +1 | Passive Perception 12 | Speed 30ft | Inspiration: No| Hit Dice: 4/4, 1d12+3 | Rage: 3/3 | Active conditions: Rage 0/10

That worked out well! And I had forgotten to add in his con bonus. ;)

Nice :)

Male Wood Elf Ranger Monster Slayer (Soldier)/4; AC: 16; HP: 36/36; Passive Perception 14; Init +4 (Adv); Saves: Str +2, Dex +6; HD Used 1/3

HP for Barbarian: 1d12 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10

Good spell choices Carric.

I've PMed Signey a few times, haven't heard back. I'll keep botting her for now, but I'm loathe to level her up, so she'll remain at level 1 till I hear.

So, the rule I suggested to the other table, which they accepted, was that for long rests you heal your full HD plus Con bonuses. So you may well heal fully, but then again you may roll terribly and only heal half or three quarters. As your hit points will be slightly above average, if you are very wounded you may not often heal fully. If you're only slightly wounded, you should be fine. Does that sound acceptable? It should only come into play in a major way if you end up doing an extended dungeon crawl (like the other table), or if you happen to end up on the front of a war, otherwise it should be no more than a minor irritant occasionally. But you will be settling right on top of Undermountain soon, so that's a thing...

Let me know what you all think. If y'all hate it, we'll leave it out, no probs.

Male CG Human (Reghed) Barbarian 4 (Zealot) | HP: 47/47, Temp: 0/0 | AC: 14 (currently: 14) | Per +2, Stl +3, Srv +2 | Saves: Str +6*, Dex +1, Con +5*, Int -1, Wis +0, Cha -1 | Init: +1 | Passive Perception 12 | Speed 30ft | Inspiration: No| Hit Dice: 4/4, 1d12+3 | Rage: 3/3 | Active conditions: Rage 0/10

I've no issue with it, so long as it can be easily referenced somewhere. Perhaps a list of house rules listed or linked to on the campaign page?

Yep absolutely. I'll get one up over the next couple of days, and I'll include optional rules that I'm including, such as hitting cover, as well as this one if it passes the group, and the resurrection rules.

Male Half-elf 4th Level Warlock | HP 26/26 (THP 7/7) | AC 15 | Str -1, Dex +2, Con +1, Int +2, Wis +3, Cha +6 | Init +2 | PPerc 13/16 | HD 4d8 | Spells: 2/2 | Conditions: Mage Armor

So, to confirm what I'm reading... for instance right now Reynwyn would heal 17 hit points on a long rest? We would then use our HD pool for short rests?

We won't use it for this rest, but if we used it in-game tomorrow, Reynwyn would heal 2d8+2 hp on a long rest - the equivalent of his whole HD pool. Make sense?

Male Wood Elf Ranger Monster Slayer (Soldier)/4; AC: 16; HP: 36/36; Passive Perception 14; Init +4 (Adv); Saves: Str +2, Dex +6; HD Used 1/3

You need to roll full amount of HD for what you get on a Long Rest under this rule.

Max HP: 40 | AC: 19 | Saves: Str: +5; Dex: -1; Con: +5; Int: +2; Wis: +1; Cha: -1 | Init -1 | Current Damage: -0 | Inspiration: [X]

My only concern about the proposed rule is that we really don't have a healer. Then again, I can use Second Wind after ever rest, so It's not as bad as all that...for me.

Male CG Human (Reghed) Barbarian 4 (Zealot) | HP: 47/47, Temp: 0/0 | AC: 14 (currently: 14) | Per +2, Stl +3, Srv +2 | Saves: Str +6*, Dex +1, Con +5*, Int -1, Wis +0, Cha -1 | Init: +1 | Passive Perception 12 | Speed 30ft | Inspiration: No| Hit Dice: 4/4, 1d12+3 | Rage: 3/3 | Active conditions: Rage 0/10

It does mean consequences for those who keep getting mangled (e.g. Revjak), but I'm personally fine with that. Recklessness has its downsides.

Male Half-elf 4th Level Warlock | HP 26/26 (THP 7/7) | AC 15 | Str -1, Dex +2, Con +1, Int +2, Wis +3, Cha +6 | Init +2 | PPerc 13/16 | HD 4d8 | Spells: 2/2 | Conditions: Mage Armor

I understand now. Hmm, I’m willing to give it a shot, but yes given that we don’t have a dedicated healer it may present some issues. Now, here’s my big question. Will we still be able to use our HD during Short Rests and will that affect our healing during Long rests?

Short rests will function as normal - long rests won't change anything about how many HD are available for short rests.

I think the proposed rule will have a minimal effect on gameplay. Let's have an example.

6th level Carric has 57 hp, which is 6d10+12. After a heavy day of combat, he's down to 12 hp, 45 short of full. He has a long rest, and rolls his full HD, regardless of how many he actually has available for short rests.
Carric's long rest: 6d10 + 12 ⇒ (1, 1, 10, 2, 10, 1) + 12 = 37
Carric, quite wounded, has rolled fairly poorly for his long rest (37 instead of the average, 45). He has still healed only 8 hp short of full, and is now on 49 hp instead of 57. Had he rolled the average, he'd be full hp.

Unless you're very low on hp at the end of the adventuring day and you roll really badly, the effect of the rule will be minimal. It won't affect, or be affected by, HD available for short rests. Also, Signey is a cleric, and can use wands of healing no worries.

My motivation is that a) I don't like that an 8 hour sleep automatically heals all wounds completely; a tough day of fighting should probably leave some twinges in the morning, and b) I feel that repeated days of hard fighting, such as in a dungeon, should take their toll.

However, if you guys are worried about it and think it will lessen your enjoyment, we can shelve the idea. This isn't my game, it's everyone's game, so feel free to keep voicing your concerns if you have them. The other table is cool with it, but I made it very clear up front that they were going into a 2e dungeon crawl, and that it would be tough, so they're up for it as it fits the brief they were given. This campaign is different, the characters are different, and I'm happy to go with the group's decision. No stress either way.

Male Wood Elf Ranger Monster Slayer (Soldier)/4; AC: 16; HP: 36/36; Passive Perception 14; Init +4 (Adv); Saves: Str +2, Dex +6; HD Used 1/3

I am good with it...

Male Half-elf 4th Level Warlock | HP 26/26 (THP 7/7) | AC 15 | Str -1, Dex +2, Con +1, Int +2, Wis +3, Cha +6 | Init +2 | PPerc 13/16 | HD 4d8 | Spells: 2/2 | Conditions: Mage Armor

I am up for giving it a go and trying it out. Also, I hadn't thought about the fact that (given the way I tend to roll with Paizo's RNG) Reynwyn will likely be rolling with average HP and therefore the possibility of rolling more healing HD than actual HP is a possibility. Also, I'm glad that it won't dip into the short rest HD. As far as your reasoning goes, it actually makes quite a bit of sense.

Male Half-elf 4th Level Warlock | HP 26/26 (THP 7/7) | AC 15 | Str -1, Dex +2, Con +1, Int +2, Wis +3, Cha +6 | Init +2 | PPerc 13/16 | HD 4d8 | Spells: 2/2 | Conditions: Mage Armor

Sorry for the double post, but just wanted to clarify a spell question with you, GM Hewy, in regards to Witch Bolt and cover. When one casts Witch Bolt, the spell automatically makes the connection between the caster and the target. From there you must make a ranged spell attack against the target and it that hits, you can then automatically deal damage each subsequent round. Would my allies provide Cover to the zombies against Witch Bolt's attack since there is that arc of electricity between Reyn and the target?

Reynwyn I'm pretty sure that witch bolt relies on your first attack roll. Look up discussions online and let me know what you find.

Male Half-elf 4th Level Warlock | HP 26/26 (THP 7/7) | AC 15 | Str -1, Dex +2, Con +1, Int +2, Wis +3, Cha +6 | Init +2 | PPerc 13/16 | HD 4d8 | Spells: 2/2 | Conditions: Mage Armor

After looking up several discussions online and re-reading Witch Bolt, I concur with you that if the first attack misses then the spell fizzles. One of the discussions brought up Vampiric Touch which specifically states that you hold the spell until your attack hits. Witch Bolt has nothing like that in the description. Therefore I would definitely rule that Cover rules would definitely apply in this situation.

Also, that means Witch Bolt isn't nearly as powerful as I initially thought! :)

Just waiting for Revjak to return from his music festival, I'm happy to wait to let him roll his own if the rest of you are all okay with that?

Male Wood Elf Ranger Monster Slayer (Soldier)/4; AC: 16; HP: 36/36; Passive Perception 14; Init +4 (Adv); Saves: Str +2, Dex +6; HD Used 1/3

Good by me

Male CG Human (Reghed) Barbarian 4 (Zealot) | HP: 47/47, Temp: 0/0 | AC: 14 (currently: 14) | Per +2, Stl +3, Srv +2 | Saves: Str +6*, Dex +1, Con +5*, Int -1, Wis +0, Cha -1 | Init: +1 | Passive Perception 12 | Speed 30ft | Inspiration: No| Hit Dice: 4/4, 1d12+3 | Rage: 3/3 | Active conditions: Rage 0/10

Cheers folks!

And Reynwyn, that's a good description of how he's learning spells.

I can't access roll20 right now, so Revjak is just pummelling the nearest enemy!

Male Half-elf 4th Level Warlock | HP 26/26 (THP 7/7) | AC 15 | Str -1, Dex +2, Con +1, Int +2, Wis +3, Cha +6 | Init +2 | PPerc 13/16 | HD 4d8 | Spells: 2/2 | Conditions: Mage Armor

Thanks Revjak, I like how warlocks work in regards to learning new things. Gives me the ability to add some flavor and explain why/how Reyn learned new abilities. Warlock patrons are perfect for such things, I feel.

So it's been about three weeks since Signey last checked in, and she hasn't been responding to my PMs. I'm happy to keep botting her for now, and in fact if she hasn't returned by the time you all make it to Waterdeep, I'll settle the character in the city as an NPC that you all still know, and the door will be open for her to rejoin if she wants to.

However, I'm already thinking ahead to recruiting another player once you're out of here. I'm considering a local friend, but will also explore the wider boards here. In the situation where Signey doesn't return in the near future, do you folks have any preferred way of going about this? Any particular way you'd like the process to go? I think someone with healing capabilities is probably important. Does the party agree, or would you be happy recruiting more openly regarding class?

On a related note, do any of you have any suggestions of players who may be interested, and that we could more or less count on to stick with it? I have a couple in mind.

Male Wood Elf Ranger Monster Slayer (Soldier)/4; AC: 16; HP: 36/36; Passive Perception 14; Init +4 (Adv); Saves: Str +2, Dex +6; HD Used 1/3

I recommend Daniel Stewart, if he is available and interested. It would be best to provide the new person with the requirement of a PC with healing capabilities.

Male CG Human (Reghed) Barbarian 4 (Zealot) | HP: 47/47, Temp: 0/0 | AC: 14 (currently: 14) | Per +2, Stl +3, Srv +2 | Saves: Str +6*, Dex +1, Con +5*, Int -1, Wis +0, Cha -1 | Init: +1 | Passive Perception 12 | Speed 30ft | Inspiration: No| Hit Dice: 4/4, 1d12+3 | Rage: 3/3 | Active conditions: Rage 0/10

I will ask someone.

Carric Amastacia wrote:

Daniel is great, he's playing in my other campaign. Probably won't get him in here though, as I'm planning for the parties to meet at some point in the future.

Male Wood Elf Ranger Monster Slayer (Soldier)/4; AC: 16; HP: 36/36; Passive Perception 14; Init +4 (Adv); Saves: Str +2, Dex +6; HD Used 1/3

Max HP: 40 | AC: 19 | Saves: Str: +5; Dex: -1; Con: +5; Int: +2; Wis: +1; Cha: -1 | Init -1 | Current Damage: -0 | Inspiration: [X]

I don't really have anyone off the top of my head, except maybe MDT or Choon.

Male CG Human (Reghed) Barbarian 4 (Zealot) | HP: 47/47, Temp: 0/0 | AC: 14 (currently: 14) | Per +2, Stl +3, Srv +2 | Saves: Str +6*, Dex +1, Con +5*, Int -1, Wis +0, Cha -1 | Init: +1 | Passive Perception 12 | Speed 30ft | Inspiration: No| Hit Dice: 4/4, 1d12+3 | Rage: 3/3 | Active conditions: Rage 0/10

I'd suggest Kevin O'Rourke 440.

Most of the folk I know are primarily Pathfinder players. I'm happy to accept any of the aforementioned players. I would also agree that we definitely need someone of the healing persuasion. We definitely do not need anyone else that is purely combat focused.

On a side not, I apologize for my slowness in posting. My son randomly caught a cold and I had to take care of him on my last two days off.

Male CG Human (Reghed) Barbarian 4 (Zealot) | HP: 47/47, Temp: 0/0 | AC: 14 (currently: 14) | Per +2, Stl +3, Srv +2 | Saves: Str +6*, Dex +1, Con +5*, Int -1, Wis +0, Cha -1 | Init: +1 | Passive Perception 12 | Speed 30ft | Inspiration: No| Hit Dice: 4/4, 1d12+3 | Rage: 3/3 | Active conditions: Rage 0/10

Reynwyn, I hope your son recovers soon. Take any time that you need.

Male Wood Elf Ranger Monster Slayer (Soldier)/4; AC: 16; HP: 36/36; Passive Perception 14; Init +4 (Adv); Saves: Str +2, Dex +6; HD Used 1/3

What does that put our individual total XP at?

370 XP each... I'm tracking it on the Campaign Info tab, if you ever want to check.

Also, it looks like we may have someone interested in joining already... That didn't take long! It's someone I've played with briefly, and really liked their style while I did, so I'll be very happy to have this person on board if they decide to make a PC and join in. I'll keep you all posted as things develop.

I still haven't heard from Signey, but I'm about to send her a message assuring her that there's no hard feelings. Who knows, she may pop up again in the future if she gets back on the pbp horse. For now, I'm going to continue botting her until there's an appropriate time for her to leave the party.

Also, no stress Reynwyn, the party has nearly looked through all of the dungeon, so hopefully you'll be back on the road to Waterdeep very shortly. Looking forward to that!

Hey folks, how we doing? I realise it's the weekend, so no stress, but just bumping the game a little. I'm pretty keen to get out of this dungeon and move on, you're nearly there! Let's get to the big city!

Male CG Human (Reghed) Barbarian 4 (Zealot) | HP: 47/47, Temp: 0/0 | AC: 14 (currently: 14) | Per +2, Stl +3, Srv +2 | Saves: Str +6*, Dex +1, Con +5*, Int -1, Wis +0, Cha -1 | Init: +1 | Passive Perception 12 | Speed 30ft | Inspiration: No| Hit Dice: 4/4, 1d12+3 | Rage: 3/3 | Active conditions: Rage 0/10

Revjak I'm sure will fit right in!
