Arthur pulls up various points of data on the phenomenon, as well as uploading some of the data on the core sub systems on his armor, including as a matter of habit a script in the programs to automatically send a copy of itself to his own personal computer before delete itself.
He fiddles with the settings before turning to anananda "hey what kind of scanning equipment do you have, I have an idea"

Kevin Ramos |

"We should need fire and acid protection. Only wear one amulet, though or they'll cancel out. Look for anything that says Planar Acclimation."
He sees if he can find any fire protection amulets.
"This one has fire, but is it... Screw it."
He puts the amulet back in the box, hands it to the next person and drinks a bottle from his coat.

Melody Waverider |

Addressing Keme, Mel expands a bit on her comment, I meant the Medical Nanite system, possible DNA sampling of your supposed killer, I can explain my thoery later if necessary.
returning her attention to the Rift data, have we entertained the notion that the Rift is not a natural Phenomenon, but instead artificially created and being maintained? considering Ephebe's efforts to contain the rift, it almost seems like its actually fighting back. just a thought. but I am sure you have thought of that already, right?
Mel turns to the data looking into anything that seems unnatural, anything that may get some credit to her theory. transfering as much data as she can to her modified datapad.

David.De'Foul |

"I'm fairly resistant to acid, something on the level those flasks can do or a magical acid weapon don't hurt me at all, but if it's more than that it'd just blunt the damage, as far as fire goes I've swam in lava before just for kicks, "

"Interesting idea, now that you mention it, even if it was natural, with this level of power and this kind of scale, it might have developed a scientience, we should probably ascertain that just in case before we send you in"
Arthur pulls up a few files on the dynamics of the energy and a physics symulator,
"With what she said on robots and whatnot potentially shutting down when exposed to this we should try to get you a light suit with a purely mechanical release mechanism... Though we'll try to prevent this from being a nessicity.... I actually have an idea on that... It actually came to me while we were in the infirmary and I found you were, for lack of a better term, radioactive"

Grim Jr. |

When the master speaks somewhat pointedly about their differences in cultures Grim sheepishly reabsorbs his scythe into his body, much to Chao's surprise, though he tries to hide it.
When the girls show so much attention to Lang, Chao seethes with envy, and steps back.
At the mention of gifts Grim gets excited "ooh what you get us?"

Mel looks to Arthur, with a sly smile, you sure it wasn't just my radiant beauty, or maybe my glowing personality. she says with a little mocking gestures to indicate she is only joking.
getting back to work, in any event, if I have to go into this rift, there is a chance I may get trapped, and won't come back, so anything you got that can help me in that regard would be most appreciated.
Mel gets back to the examination of the rift. she still seems intent on trying to discover some sort of artificial control over it.

Kevin Ramos |

"You may want healing if no one is capable of such. I have small amounts, but my supplies would be better used for other things. If you're susceptible to poison or diseases, there's some nasty bugs down there, free floating and intentional, so there's that. We'll also need screened for diseases when we get back..."
He pauses to think.
"Um... That's all I got off the top of my head. Oh. Demons resist most energy type, and electricity completely. They are harmed by cold iron and positively charged weapons. Sometimes requiring both. That's if this comes to a fight. I believe the plan is to get in and out as quietly as possible."
He looks to Jeran for confirmation of this.

Kevin Ramos |

"So that takes care of that part. I believe we're ready, then."
He regards Dave's sword arm.
"That's a cool trick. How do you pull that?"
He attempts to inspect the blade if Dave doesn't prevent him.

Settro |

"I can make sure the caverns don't close in on you, and keep the chaos of the abyss at bay. If any of you want some modifications, I can do that too."
Settro does take an acid resist amulet! but doesn't bother with fire.
"I'm also a decent archer."
the school's illusion he keeps over his dark bow vanishes, revealing the horribly evil dark bow.

David.De'Foul |

"I ritually bonded the blade to my body to ensure I'd never be disarmed, though as to how... That's a long story and I'm not sure I could replicate it without killing the subject, though, with resurrection magics on hand it should be fine, never had any takers though."
He looks to settro "what kind of modifications are we talking about?"

Kevin Ramos |

"I understand that completely. What you saw of me earlier is the same story. Did yours explode too? I guess that's more of an alchemist problem, though."
He turns to face both Dave and Settro.
"What do you mean by 'modifications?'"
He shudders slightly, looking at the bow.
"Do you think... That..." He regards the weapon with mild discomfort, "is going to do much to the things it came from?"

Settro |

"It won't have it's extra effects, but it's still a very powerful weapon. If I have a choice in the matter, I'll be spilling as little blood as possible anyway."

David.De'Foul |

"Difficult to describe, I guess you could call it an explosion, it was intensely painful, imagine lightning coursing through your every nerve, now imagine it's like that but opposite, and still just as painful, I would like I see some of your notes, I've not gone into alchemy as much, not had too much a talent for it, but like many things I dabble"

Kevin Ramos |

"Not sure if I could recreate mine either, but I could show you some of my other things. I've collected nearly all the know alchemical formulae in my pad, either on my own or copying other works. But, I mostly specialize in breeding and studying oozes. It's not for everyone, but I just love them."
He smiles, happy that he both gets to talk about his work, and that someone is actually interested for once.
"Fair enough."
Is all he says to Settro's response, figuring he either didn't want to or didn't have to time to explain "modifications."

Settro |

"Oh, and as for the modifications, I'm the transmutation teacher. You name it, and I can Probobly make you into it, either through elixirs or polymorph magic."

Kevin Ramos |

"That's what I figured you meant. I think I can cover that if need be, but it's unreliable. Still rather new."

Kevin Ramos |

"Ready when you all are, then."
He looks from one person to the next.

Jacob Forgehand |

After the general chaos in the classroom stops, Jacob sits for a while, breathing hard. The pain in his abdomen and forehead had started fading, but if it continued on this steady rate of degradation...
Jacob gets out a pencil and parchment-which appeared in his desk-and started frantically scribbling out equations, making up a new measurement-the agony scale-based on the spasms per minute of the biceps of his left arm.
It should be about... 38 minutes, 22 seconds. Wait, no 23 seconds.
Jacob leaned back in his chair. Well... nothing to do but pay attention to class.
He's a smart kid ;P

Jeran Darkclaw |

"Ready when you all are, then."
He looks from one person to the next.
"RIght. Let's do this," he said, determined.
The group convened back at the headmaster's office, as instructed.
This is your cue Ryo. Send the group on its way so we can get this party started! :)

narrator |
When the splitting up of the students occurs, Lewis will refuse to leave Tarka despite being of other gender.
When the students are asked to split up according to gender one of the acolytes whispered to another, "How are we supposed to tell? I mean they're not all human..."
"Just go with it," the other acolyte whispered back. "We don't want to offend friends of the Avatar. Let them sort it out for themselves."
Ephebe |

Ephebe walked through the temple complex, stopping to admire the architecture. She had no idea where in here her students were, but she appreciated the moment of peace and quiet as she tried to compartmentalize everything. She didn't want her students to know how upset she was. Or how much she was dreading going back. She'd tried to have this confrontation once, almost a year ago, but her own mind was so muddled at the time that she hadn't done it properly. She'd still been sharing mental space with the ghost of their real daughter/sister/granddaughter and it had confused the issue.

Raelle del Sol |

Raelle swore as she realized that her assignment was still just a jumble of unassembled parts. She had tried, she really had, but she kept having to fix each individual part and there wasn't enough time...another failing grade for the day. She wondered darkly if it would be Mom or Dad who grounded her until she could get her grades up again.

Lewis the Jabberwock |

Lewis bends his neck over upside down to look at Tarka on his back, hoping she'd direct him to which group.

Lang Fei |

She'd still been sharing mental space with the ghost of their real daughter/sister/granddaughter and it had confused the issue.
As Ephebe was admiring the architecture, she spies Lang attempting to sneak across the courtyard carrying a bundle. he avoids a few girls exiting a small two story building. he seems to be bidding his time till it is safe to enter.

DM of the coins |

Tarka, Lewis, Sara, and Midori wre escorted to a pagoda styled two story building. there are several other girls there all of varying ages but none seem over the age of 14. all of them wear yellow robes similar to Lang's robes.
they greet you as you are shown to a common bunk room for your stay.
the same for the boys (minus the girls in yellow robes, rather boys in brown robes greet them)
both are shown to a bath house and changing room. and are given clean linens for their bunks. everything here is of simple design. and basic colors. there definitely is a lack of extravagance here but the accommodations have an inviting appeal to them.
around the far side of the bunk areas is a large balcony that overlooks the mountains. the view is rather breathtaking. the crisp clean mountain air is refreshing. there is a stone path that connects the balconies of the boys and girls bunk houses. they come together after each one crosses a bridge to a stone Gazebo atop a mountainous pillar they view from the Gazebo might give one the feeling of flying as there is little to detract from the view of the surrounding mountain range.

Kim seems to keep her distance from Jacob. she holds her teddy bear like its a barrier between them.
something about him definitely spooks the poor girl.

Ardiente |

Sorchan reacted instantly to the lightning bolt streaking towards him with a lightning bolt of his own, the lightning crashing together with a brilliant flash that left much of the class trying to blink away afterimages.
"You can see....well, some of you can still see, but that is beside the point. The point is that if timed correctly you can counter an attack by using the same forces that are being used against you. Now I want all of you to take turns attacking and countering to practice this technique."
Okay that meant that NOW it was his turn to defend. Ardiente shores up his stances, trying to clear his mind of all else. He was trained for this, he could do it. He could even use his earthbending if he needed to.

Midori Tsuyomi |

After availing herself of the bath house (for another lovely soak in the hot water) and graciously thanking their hosts for their hospitality, Midori dresses herself in the piece of formal wear she had packed - the yukata Ignace had designed for her.
Said garment is a deep, rich green colour with a graceful and subtle golden leaf pattern embroidered into the silk. The belt sinches around Midori's waist, sitting comfortably. The colouration of the robe compliments the aasimar's golden hued skin wonderfully, making her look... almost regal in presentation, especially with the way her bearing shifts to match the somewhat restrictive clothing. Her horn sticks proudly out, the pearly white appendage removing the need for any head accessory.
Midori spends some small amount of time fussing with her hair. She never really knows how to properly style it (possibly one of the reasons why the ponytail is her favoured fashion). In the end she settles on a simple sweep for the front and a bun in the back.
In the end, the combined effect of Midori's age along with the lovely gown and simple hairstyle is one of... potential. This is a girl on the cusp of beginning her transformation into a woman. She has sleek grace, but she has yet to develop any truly "feminine" allure. (She ain't got no curves (yet)!) In spite of this, she does look rather resplendent.
"Do you need any help, Sara-rin?" Midori calls out to her friend, having finished her own preperations.

Sara and Bee |

Sara also enjoyed the bath, as well as the ability to remove smashed bugs from their flight from her face and hair, which she also straightened.
Her long black hair and height together, her hair reaches 5/8's of the way to the floor.
"Um... Yes..."
Clearly not used to this kind of dress, she has every piece in every conceivable form of backwards and sideways.

Pan Buttercup |

"Thank you. I made it myself."
He smiles, standing and offering his hand.
"If you are my teacher, I am your student. Rakki Okane."
He smiles.
"Pan," he said affably, shaking Rakki's proferred hand. "So, to start off, I may or may not be teaching you long term. Sorry, I'm fIllini in for Fieri today so I'm not even sure which of these classes are mine and which are hers. You'll be lucky if you turn out to be studying with her. Not that I'm so bad either. Just not as well versed in so many different types of instruments and styles of music as she is."
"Anyways, why don't we start off with you playing something for me so I can hear where you're at now, skills wise. Cool?"

Rakki Okane |

"Variety is my specialty. It's writing and lyrics I was hoping to pick up mostly."
He pulls up the chair and sits on the edge.
"This is just a little song I can do with just guitar, if we can get some instruments somewhere, I can go a lot bigger."
He plays this song.
1d20 + 10 + 10 + 10 + 4 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 10 + 10 + 10 + 4 + 3 = 39Guitar
1d20 + 10 + 10 + 10 + 4 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 10 + 10 + 10 + 4 + 3 = 53Sing

There is a sudden gust of wind, not an uncommon occurrence in the temple and Ephebe is standing behind Lang, her hair slightly disheveled from running so fast.
"So, is this sneaking in for mischief or sneaking in to deliver a surprise?" she whispered. "Because i might be able to help....what? I'm not a responsible adult all the time."

"Remember, the point of the exercise is to counterattack with the same element, effectively canceling out the attacking spell," Sorchan said, and shot a simple scorching ray at him, the multiple beams all targeting Ardiente.

1d20+10+10+10+4+3Guitar
1d20+10+10+10+4+3Sing
"So, it is you. I wasn't totally sure until I heard you sing."
"Alright, you don't really need help with technique or general musical knowledge. So I'm gonna make a note in the system so you get assigned to Fi for sure. You need more of her areas of expertise than mine. And she'll get where you're coming from musically more. Plus, she's more the songwriter than me. I add in a few notes here and there, but most of the band's songs were all her. I swear she writes them in her sleep."
"And this is probably the part you're not gonna like to hear. Variety isn't your specialty, it's your downfall. It killed your career. You can keep exploring music and settle down somewhere as a music teacher or maybe run an instrument shop, but you'll never sing on stage again unless you find your voice. You do need help with writing and lyrics because that's the only way you're ever going to figure out what it is that moves you, what you're passionate about. And then you can find the sound that best brings that out. Doesn't mean you can never experiment with other sounds, but you have to keep coming back to your core. Otherwise all you're doing is producing noise and nobody wants to listen to that. If you want to move people, you have to do it from the heart.:
"So, instruments away for the rest of the hour. We're going to spend this class perios making a list of all the things you can think of that move you, that are important to you, that really grab your full attention.," he said, handing Rakki a notebook and a pen. "You'll be able to use this when you have your first song-writing lesson."

Lang Fei |

"Wow, the view here is awesome, are we going to learn any of your moves lang? Like the one where you go" he waves his arms around horribly mangling the form "and then the wind goes whoosh! That one's pretty sweet"
Lang tried not to laugh but instead added to the levity some. It goes more like this he says in an equally yet opposite movement. then you can have the wind go wifff, not Whoosh. you in the mountains, things are different.
It is easy for Grim to tell Lang is joking around some. but yeah the view here is pretty Awesome, not quite as Awesome as me, but it is awesome. he adds with a bit of a elbow to the side. baiting his friend a little to some fun.
later after Lang's convo with grim...
Lang simply turned around with a guilty boyish look. I wanted to give this to Midori, it is supposed to be a surprise really. it is hers after all, and I know she doesn't like being parted from it. I want her to feel comfortable and welcome here. do you think you can distract her so I can leave it for her on her bunk?

Rakki Okane |

"And that means you are the Pan and Fieri of Fane?Fain?"
He throws the guitar behind his back and it vanishes in a puff of grey smoke, leaving a leaf that gently floats to the ground as it fades from green to red, orange, yellow, brown, and disappears like a rapid autumn change all at once.
"I should've realized earlier, but musicians named Fieri are surprisingly common with, you know, Firebirds and all."
With that said, he props his elbows on his knees and listens.
The smile runs away from his face as he is presented with the reason his world had collapsed.
His mind goes through a quick twister of thoughts, starting with "why does he think he knows what happened." And ending with, "yes I need to or I wouldn't be here. He's right."
He takes the pad and pen and starts.
And by starts, we mean staring at an empty page for quite some time...
