The Avalon Chronicles

Game Master lynora

This is a high level rules light game set in a school for magical kids, kinda a mash-up of Soul Eater, Harry Potter, and X-Men. :)

I don't think I have anyone to respond to, right now.

Male Weremonkey Rogue/Ranger/Trickster

Two of my PCs are in scenes with both Lyn and FCD.

One of them is bodyguard for the Chosen One...

Edit: Dami, is the angel actually, physically present in the school? If so, how did it bypass the wards?

M Extrodinaraly Contrary Meatbag Fourm pyromancer 1

Nothing prevents a cresutre From getting on anymore, I don't think.

And I don't think the school wards are made to keep Angels out.

Thoguh, maybe I'm missing somthign, as I haven't really been reading that recently.

My issue right now is one of business combined with a bad attention span. I'm leaving to Iceland for a week and a half on Saturday, so I'm trying to get things together for the trip. Combined with other RL events, every time I sit down to post, I end up getting distracted.

Sorry about that.

I'm not aware of any reason an Angel or other Outsider being prevented from physically manifesting in the Prime Material or the School.

Hell, that'd spit out a bunch of students if it did, no? It certainly would cause some radical changes as to how one or two of my PCs arrived too.

But, yeah-- the Herald of Guests is present at the school. Can't think of any reason that doesn't work the way it has so far.

Stars and garters man - that means my totally pointless storyline is shutdown until April!! Shenanigans, I say... ;P

In all seriousness, have an awesome trip sir. It sounds like a fun jaunt (and hopefully it's for pleasure and not work).

Re: Wards:

There are two types of wards. Planetary wards are pretty self-explanatory. The previous version of planetary wards completely cut off Agartha from the multiverse and hid the planet so it could not be found. Those wards were transformed into something totally different when Agartha was flipped inside out. Now travel to and from the planet is possible both from space travel and from interplanar travel. The key here is hostile intent. If someone means harm to Agartha then they will bounce off the wards. That doesn't mean evil can't get through. General ill will doesn't cut it. They have to actually intend harm. The wards do not however have infinite power and a large invasion fleet intent on harm would eventually be able to overwhelm the wards so that they fail. Anyone who has been to Agartha and then leaves will forget everything about their time there including planetary coordinates should they attempt to reveal that information to enemies of Agartha. If an Agarthan or someone who has been to Agartha is captured and interrogated this will effect them before they can reveal anything.
The other type of wards are the school wards. Again, they don't stop anyone from entering school grounds unless that person is intent on harming the school. The school wards also prevent violence on school grounds by teleporting someone to detention as soon as they deliberately strike another with intent to do harm. They also teleport anyone who is severely injured directly to the infirmary. These wards are separate from the school security network which is more of a video monitoring system with extra capabilities to deal with accidents and other emergencies that are not covered by the wards. There is a certain amount of overlap between the two systems because you want redundancy for these kind of things. Although after the recent issues, there will be adjustments to account for the weaknesses exposed by Darth Vai's atttacks.

Now none of that would prevent the angel guy from showing up in Agartha or at Avalon. His intent is to help not to harm. He would be perfectly welcome. This is part of why Jeran wanted to make sure the girl had a dimensional anchor on her at all times once they returned to the schol since there isn't really any way to keep all these extraplanars out.

So to update: my grandpa passed away on Saturday. After a whole bunch of what ended up as a literal game of telephone and parts of my family not speaking to other parts and so on, they finally scheduled the funeral for a week from this coming Saturday. The same day as my son's karate tournament. So yeah. It's been a fun few days.
Having had more than my quota of family drama, I am trying to get my head back in the game as it were. It may take me a while to get back up to speed. I know I have several PMs in need of replies, and I'm not entirely certain just how many storylines I have currently paused. I will probably do a character check in later on to figure it out.

Belated condolences, Lyn - it seems to be a bad year for this stuff.

My wife has gone through two family deaths since January, and a third one not too far off. All with the requisite family drama, of course (and not being allowed to take time off from work for the second one to boot).

2015 = Sketchy :/

Remember that if you're in a reference frame travelling at light speed, time is meaningless (assuming relativity applies in this setting). This means that Light is outside of Time's domain.

Technically.

>_>

Alright, so a bit more explanation on that: the speed of light is constant no matter how fast you are going. Unlike other things, no matter your frame of reference, you will always measure the speed of light as the same.

Even if you're travelling .5c (50% of the speed of light), any light you measure will STILL be travelling at c, which according to newtonian physics means that said light would have to be travelling at 1.5c (for example).

Basically, time is what changes to make that possible.

And if your frame of reference IS light speed (you are travelling at c), other light you measure would STILL be travelling at c as well. For this to be possible, the factor that time plays would have to be zero.

Which means if you are travelling light speed, from your reference frame, time does not exists: everything happens instantaneously. You can travel infinite distance without having any time pass.

Of course, outside of your reference frame, time still passes normally.

The universe is frickin' weird.

Alright, so, I think they may be introduced soon-

So, anyone who is possibly interested in playing this new race, I'll probobly just post the race here, and trust you to keep the knowadge of the race proper in charecter, beucase I feel I can. (That's.... A really abnormal feeling, there. Trust.)

race:

Voidwalker stats

The voidwalkers simply do not belong.

Outsider (native) (ties to the void) (3 RP)

Greater weakness -4 STR, -2 dex, +2 con. -3RP

Xenophoibc (void-speech)

Horrific world (-6 RP)
Voidwalkers are weak to fire and cold, unable to stand the extreme temperatures of this world they find themselves in. In addition, they are unaccustomed to light, and have the light blindness trait.

Negative energy affinity -1 RP

origin reversion 4 RP
See in darkness 4 RP
Soul-seer 4 RP
At will unseen servant 2RP (maximum 10 in existence at a time)
At will blend 2RP
Swift as shadows 3RP
Sneaky 5rp
Silent hunter 2 rp
Unnatural 2rp

Spell like ability (greater)-
Origin reversion (Monstrous physique II)

Origin reversion allows the Voidwalker to choose 5 abilities from the monstrous physique II list to reflect their unique from.

The form in question may be unable to wield weapons-
If so, they gain 3 natural Attacks from the following list. Only tentacle can be taken more then once.
Primary-
Claws, bite, gore.
Secondary-
Wing buffet(2), tentacle, hoof(2), tail slap*.

*as per a dragon's tail slap- uses 1.5 * STR to damage, but still has the to-hit penalty of a secondary natural attack.

The Voidwalker becomes an aberration in this form.

The size, and powers, are all chosen at character creation, and cannot be changed.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------

Most voidwalkers are afraid of the world around them, unable to understand it.
Voidwalkers usually don't know any language but thier own, void-speech, and as such, are hard for anyone to understand without magic.
Void-speech has no words for time, nor names- voidwalkers are almost always nameless when they enter the world.
Most adopt human-like mannerisms quickly, likely due to old skills resurfacing themselves.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------

Favored class bounses-
Fighter- gain a +1/2 to damage with either natural weapons or weapons while in origin form.
Barbarian- gain 2 temporary hit points when you enter Origin form. These fade when origin form ends.
Cleric- add +1 to how much hp you heal yourself when you channel negative energy.
Druid- gain 1/4th of a evolution point to apply to your animal companion.
Wizard- gain a +1 to pierce SR while in origin form.
Sorcerer- gain a +1/4 to your effective sorcerer level for the purposes of your bloodline while in origin form.
Oracle- gain +1/2 dr / law and chaos while in origin form.
Rouge- gain an additional +1 competence bonus to stealth while using the blend racial spell like ability.
Magus- gain a +1 to concentration checks while in origin form.
Inquisitor- gain a +1 to concentration checks while in origin form
Monk- add a +1/3 to your monk AC bonus while in origin form.
Ranger- gain 1/4th of a evolution point to apply to your animal companion.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------

Voidwalker feats & a trait-

Brush the void (trait)-
When you use a teleportation spell, you brush by the void, returning to the world in your origin form. This lasts for one round after you teleport. This cannot trigger more then once a minute.

Powerful origin-
Perquisites- origin reversion
Your origin form is quite potent.
When in your origin form, you have access to the features and sizes of monstrous physique III instead of monstrous physique II.
Special-
This feat must be taken at first level.
(If poison is selected with this option, it deals 1d2 damage to a stat of choice, with a duration of 6 rounds, and has a cure of 2 saves.)

Life sight-
Perquisites- soul seer
Nothing alive can hide from you.
Your deathwatch detects all living creatures in it's radius, whether you can see them or not, telling the square and status of the creature in question. This gives no other information about the creature, and if you can't see them otherwise, they stil, save total concealment. (Though you know what square to target.)

True origin-
Perquisites- powerful origin
When in your origin form, you negate your racial penalties to DEX and STR.

Paradox spell (metamagic)

Perquisites- Voidwalker, caster level 5.

You create spells with the paradox left in, creating a force unlike anything anyone knows how to defend against.

When applied to a spell that deals damage, all damage dealt by the spell becomes paradox damage- this damage is unaffected by any resistances. The spell loses it's elemental subtypes.

Spell level +2

Improved paradox spell-
Perquisites- paradox spell, caster level 8 or higher.
Your paradox nature is inherit enough that it comes almost entirely naturally.

When you apply paradox spell to a spell, it only adds one to the spell slot of the spell in question. When a spontaneous caster applies paradox spell to a spell, it's casting time is unaffected.

Greater paradox spell-
Perquisites- paradox spell, improved paradox spell, caster level 13 or higher.
Your paradox is second nature to you. When casting a damaging spell of 4th level or below, you can apply paradox spell for free. Paradox spells now retain their elemental type when beneficial.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------

In the void...
There is no light, yet everything has color.
Things exist, yet do not interact physically interact.
There is no air, yet there is sound, and all life breathes.
There is no time, yet events occur.

The Void is a sort of support beams between timelines and space- the internal support of the planes.

The void absorbs the constant minor paradoxes created by magic, but it can't handle larger paradoxes easily- instead, it just eventually consumes entire timelines to keep the others stable- devouring timelines that collapse.

Timelines that are close to this point where they'll fall apart may start to see multicolored cracks near the problem, emitting no light at all, yet having color to those who can see it (see in darkness).

Access to the Void is nearly impossible, the only way being falling through a crack.
Cracks only stay open for minutes, at most, and tend to appear in large numbers "near" a large paradox- yet, they only ever do this once per paradox, leaving a very, very small window for entry.

Oh, and of course, things come out when the cracks come.

Voidwalkers are people from collapsed timelines, who have forgotten their past. Most of them live fairly happy lives with the other un-worlders. No two un-worlders are alike. Appearances and shapes very wildly.
when they are rejected into a world again, they return to a human or similar form, much to their fear and bewilderment.
They have forgotten light and heat, and are thrust into a a new, yet familiar form out of nowhere.
Dispite not evryone who enters being human, they come out with the same stats (with minor nods to the original race, usally.) due to their true form being rejected, and the unverse just kinda shunting them into a Humanish body.

Voidwalkers are psychically weak, blinded by light, and tormented by the existence of heat.
However, they do have bit of magic on their own, creating non-existent work forces for themselves, and being able to dim their own light down to lightless color.
They are amazing at hiding from things around them, a power likely borne of fear.
Their greatest power, However, is origin reversion- with effort, they can return to their true, un-realm form once again, if only for a short time.

Back to the people who fall in-
These people slowly (or not. Time's not a thing.) become voidwalkers themselves... But as long as thier timeline remains intact, so do their memories. Calling things out of the void is far easier then getting things in- a name, and a summoning spell are all you need to call out a victim of these cracks. However, these people are frequently already voidwalkers by the time they are called. These voidwalkers have light sensitivity isntead of light blindness, and often don't understand their own true form, or why they have any attachment to it.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------

Paradox domain-

Paradox domain users don't have to worship any deity or concept, and can choose to channel negative energy even if good.

Touch of paradox-
Paradox touch. (Sp): You can touch a creature as a standard action, giving it a sustained paradox. For the next round, the first time the target rolls a d20, he rolls once, at a -5. He also effectively rolls a second dice- this dice always rolls 9. If used on a friendly target, they take the better result, if on a hostile target, the worse result. You can use this ability a number of times per day equal to 3 + your Wisdom modifier.

Living paradox-
At 8th level, once a day, whenever subjected to a spell you can invert it's effects as an immediate action. Damage becomes healing, and vice-versa. Some spells don't have a valid inversion.

Domain spells-
Windy escape, twilight haze, unravel destiny, antithetical constraint, dispel balance, elemental accessor, Arbitrament, orb of the void, polar midnight.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------

Paradox shard-
A shard of one of the few solid objects in the void.

Incredibly rare, having even one in an entire timeline is astounding.

Should a Voidwalker touch it, they revert to their origin form as long as they remain in contact.
A Voidwalker's dream item, it's nothing more then that for most.
