The uneasy gathering of Patrons increases in number once again as a large, griffon-like creature wings its way out of the surrounding ether to land gracefully a short distance away.

"A most interesting moot indeed," Valēre's deep yet feminine voice intones as she glances at the newly-arrived Destruction, and her other fellows.

Oh, it is. I write him as an amalgam of Shinigami from Soul Eater and Discworld Death. Or at least that's the intention. He's also the one patron who doesn't really care about power. Everything ends up in his domain eventually. No need to be in a rush about it. :P

Oh, really? Hurtful assumption, that is...

(^-^)

As the young monk tries to quickly get his bearings, he hears Valēre's voice once more in his mind.

"Now please don't repeat the mistakes of your predecessors."

"Be. Smart."

Fei, of the Sun Soul wrote:

The young monk stills himself and then casts his senses outward, searching for the dark echo of his meldanya's aura of courage that burns so brightly nearby. After a moment, he finds something. It is similar to Vai, but tainted...bolstered by hate and bitterness.

Fei's eyes open, and he takes a centering breath. He then disappears...

....and then feels a sensation not unlike being grabbed or pulled aside at great velocity. A familiar deep-yet-feminine voice speaks into Fei's ear:

"And you were doing such a good job of remaining level-headed in the middle of this mess. Oh well...I guess I can't fault you for being overprotective. Or complain too much - she does inspire you to some amazing acts of gallantry," Valēre says with a chuckle that quickly fades.

"However, I will not let you kill yourself by crashing a party with 'guests' you don't know about, so I'll just drop you off nearby where you can appreciate how the game has changed..."

::Patience,:: Valēre's voice gently intones in Fei's mind. ::If all goes as planned, they won't need you here. Trust in your fellows.::

Interesting tidbit: Valēre's imperative, vale, was how the romans said goodbye. It literally meant "Be strong". Awesome name for the patron of Courage :D.

Curses - somebody discovered my (rather transparent) methodology!! (^-^)

(And in digging around to find an interesting 'avatar' for Valēre to use when manifesting to Fei, I found that the griffon is a symbol of courage in Celtic culture, and both tigers and members of the hawk family have been used in various other cultures. Slap them all together, and Voilà! - something much more compelling than a simple lion ;D)

"That's simple - just do exactly what you've been doing," Valēre replies cryptically. "It's why I picked you in the first place."

"Now that Madness has been set back for a little while, things should be a bit more relaxed, but I'll let you know if some more specific duties arise that need your attention. Other than that - keep demonstrating that being afraid doesn't mean being unable to act to change things, regardless of the situation. There are a few people here who could benefit from that example, actually."

The room goes dark again.
"Oh....and try to play well with the other Champions. You're all quite the mixed bag of uniqueness this time - and that's a very good thing."

"And you were actually alone for once, which doesn't happen as often as I thought it would, given your general lack of socializing," the creature replies with what could be taken as an amused look in her avian eyes.
"And I like my conversations to be one-on-one instead of a forum."

"In any event, you may call me Valēre, and I will be your patron in your new role as the Champion of Courage. Any questions?"

"Many mortals are afraid of the dark," a deep yet feminine voice intones from Fei's right. "I would have thought that a sun-worshipper would be even moreso. But I guess it defeats the purpose of picking you to be my champion if something like this scares you. But I digress....I hope this wasn't a bad time to introduce myself?"
