Also, I'm imagining pre-Taron-ruining-everything-Agartha as very similar to the Halo rings, except a full sphere with the sun at the centre. That's correct? Meaning, in theory, you could SEE the other side of the planet with a powerful enough telescope?
It was a Dyson Sphere. Except not artificial. Err, not exactly natural but .. ah hell .. you know what I mean.

Just as a heads-up, Ryo, the students are waiting for you to make an announcement about what the heck is going on.
I was aware of this last night but was unable to devote my full attention to it. I will try to make a decently confusing post explaining how our planet got turned inside out.

Just wanted to make sure it didn't get lost in the shuffle. This happens from time to time. :)

I thought it was more like the TARDIS From Dr. Who, just on a larger scale.

So now we're a normal-sized planet with normal low-tech emissions that even a hobgoblin using a telescope several light-years away can detect? And I take it the rest of the star system is not logistically important for mining or strategically convenient for trade routes?
That means the first visitors to arrive are A.) official explorers from the Dragon Empire, B.) small-time pirates, or C.) both. "Explorers" meaning "exploiters" of course.

It was a nature preserve. That help, Lyn?
Re: Larger on the Inside: It was. To anyone outside it, Agartha looked like a planet that was just one size away from being to small for that classification.
Yep, that describes it pretty well. :)

See, here's what I don't get about sci-fi: The need for "Star systems" to be logistically important. Sure, in some sci-fi, this is needed because of their way of getting around the universe: Mass Effect (Mass Relays), EVE Online (Jump gates).... but surely if you have shipborne FTL, star systems are not logistically important (and really, might cause problems due to gravity wells).

Well, generally it has to do with the presence of resources really. In many ways an asteroid belt is more important than a planetary system...except that people are resources too and they have this irritating need to have somewhere to live....:)

A common misconception about asteroid fields is that they are similar to the pop culture depictions (see Star Wars for the worst of these). In truth, an asteroid field is actually quite small in relative mass (the entirety of our own asteroid belt is less than 1% the mass of the earth, which isn't a large planet at all) with collisions between the larger-scale objects occuring maybe once in about 10 million years. Distances between asteroids can be measured in hundreds of kilometers, if not more.
The problem that this brings up for asteroid mining is that, quite simply, the time and effort putting into extracting the resources from a asteroid is probably better dedicated to simply mining from a much safer and more stable place (like a planet).
The exception, of course, is for rare materials (though it's no doubt that Iron would be the most common type of asteroid). This is further hampered by the fact that alot of the heavier elementals are formed in the intense heat and pressure of planet cores
(Sorry, I'm an astronomy junkie)
Edit: Also, I realize we're playing a game and this is your world, so obviously you can make it however you wish. I'm more talking about my annoyance with "speculative" sci-fi.

What do we know about the Dragon Empires views or knowledge of refugees/dissidents in or on Agartha? How many in the Empire were aware of the hunters sent after the Amythyst dragons? What is being done to ward Agartha now?
I'm thinking of writing a few scnees from their POV for background stuff for my other cahracter idea...

lol. I surrender! :D
In all serious, yeah, I know all that. I'm assuming two things though. any society that can figure out FTL can probably figure out safe ways to mine asteroid fields. And all of that tech needs a lot of metal to produce. Oh, look...floating fields of iron...all that needs is a floating refinery to catch the floating bits of iron. But I like to oversimplify because well....can you imagine how godawful boring it would be to read a book or game that didn't gloss over the technical stuff? I don't have to. (Excerpt from writers group: No, really, those ten pages on how the spaceship works...don't EVER do that to me again, kay? cause we all know you're not listening to a word I say and next week it'll be a treatise on metalworking...>.< )

Empire is currently unaware of Agartha. Only the top leadership would even remember the amethyst dragons. If it gives you any context, Ryleh is 600 years old and she was born in Agartha. If the Empire was reminded of those who got away from them so long ago, the instinct would most likely be to crush them. But they don't know that the planet formerly known as Agartha exists. There is only one being in the Empire who currently knows about the Hunters being sent after the amethyst dragons and that is the gold dragon former emperor because he's the one who hired them. The red dragon current emperor might have found out about it at some point, but I couldn't say for sure. I can't tell you about wards yet.

here's kinda where I'm going with this...
He finished up the reports, and laid back to rest when his messager bleeped.
"Vex here. Go ahead."
An illusory image of his night commander, Lt Commander Kather appeared on his night stand.
A female drow, statuesque and handsome, she was born for command. What female isn't? he thought dryly.
"Captain, we have an anomaly on the long range energy scriers. It was barely noticable, but the area is marked as 'Mortis Ex', unliveable."
"Threat level?"
Lt Commander seemed to mull it over a second. "Energy readings are confusing. As soon as they were there, they were gone, all traces removed. As I said, an anomaly. Perhaps we should return to fleet for scrier replacements?" she asked hopefully.
He chuckled. She could not be blamed for wanting any reason to be off of the Venriss or back in home space.
"I doubt we should be so lucky, Kather. Send a probe to get in-system readings for now."
She sighed. "As you command, Captain." The image winked out.
Wondering what could have sent such a pulse, he drifted off to sleep daring to hope that some excitement may actually come of this...

About Velvarmisan Shephord
Velvarmisan Shephord (Vel-var-me-san Shef-ord)
Physical Description:
Eyes: Unbroken electric green
Hair: Black
Height: 5'10"
Weight: 118 lbs
The figure before you is elven in appearance with straight, shoulder legnth black hair. As you look into his eyes you can see what look to be equations and symbols moving almost too fast to comprehend. His hands are callused with long quick looking fingers. He carries himself with an aura of both detachment and competence.
Background
As one of the explorers of the laws of reality, Velvarmisan Shephord was mildly surprised when asked to join in the gestalt mind. A ripple had appeared from the Prime Material plane, and as its effects spread, the crystal monoliths of the city began to resonate. Upon examination of the origin of this ripple two discoveries were made. The first was the appearance on the Prime of a fully inhabited planet where only a lifeless rock had existed before. The second was the discovery of an ancient treaty that was held with the ancestors of those living presently on that same planet.
The gestalt mind debated at the speed of thought. It was decided based on the treaty to send eight representatives (eight being a perfect number, as well as the number needed for two teams to summon inevitables if necessary) to this planet. Velvarmisan Shephord was sent to Avalon as one of these representatives. It is believed that his skills will be most useful to them during this time of transition.
