"Are they gone yet?"

Says a voice some distance away.


Lady Zal's query seems to be answered by a distant rumble of thunder and the unholy howls of the wraiths as they weather Zed's acid, Nalket's flames, and then Gnaarrg's ectoplasmic bomb....

OOOOOOWWWWWOOOOOHHHH!!!!

Lightning briefly brightens the sky outside a few seconds later....


Sitting at ease in the driver's seat of the slave wagon, bored and irritated that the slaves haven't returned with valuable Androffan artifacts yet, Zophal grimaces as the gloomy morning sky rumbles and flickers to the north. A few drops of rain begin to fall, and he curses.

Orc-poop! Bloody rain.... Those blasted miners had better be showing their grubby mugs soon, with sacks full of good technology, or by Gorum's gore-splattered gauntlets, I'll press every Gods bedamned button on this bloody rod of lethal deterrence....

A look of doubt still in his eyes, Geirmur will take aim and fire at the nearest remaining wraith.

Musket: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10

With a terrific BANG!!!, Geirmur's musket ball passes through the fleshless, boneless monster and ricochets around the cafe dangerously, finally settling by chance in the eye socket of one of the forlorn skeletons! The shadow seems not to have noticed the shot at all....


I suspect that traditional ballistics will have little effect on these entities, Master Geirmur! squeaks Clinger, hovering manically between Nalket, who is closer to the shadows, and Lady Zal taking cover back behind the others....

On Gnaarrg's next turn, to speed things up.

Gnaarrg will backpedal away a bit 5 foot step back and mix another ectoplasmic concoction, throwing it at the ground beneath them.

Ugh. Well, still might hit with splash!
Miss deviation: 1d8 ⇒ 5 5 means it lands on the square behind the target, which should still splash both of them with minimum damage.
1d6 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8 5 damage, no reduction against incorporeal creatures

Round 2:

One of the shadows turns from Zed to drift closer to Nalket, reaching for her with wispy shadow-arms.... Incorporeal touch 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19 brushes the Ghost Wolves shaman's arm with deathly cold shadow-fingers, sapping 1d6 ⇒ 6 Strength!

The other continues its deadly dance with Zed.... Incorporeal touch 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22 again invades Zed's android body, dealing 1d6 ⇒ 5 Strength damage!

I have no further abilities that can affect incorporeal, so just total defense until the combat ends.

Two small copies of Lady Zal pop into being imaginary, one on each of her shoulders. One dressed all in white, the other all in red.

White says to her
That looks like some kind of wand, if its magic I could save your friends from the undead shades

Red butts in
Don't pay heed to her, she's stupid, come on you read books, your no adventure hunter, you will die

White says a cross look on her face
This is about friendship and friendship is magic, it means more then life and death its the very bed rock of...

Red jokingly says
Who care, we go there we are dead dead dead, ^"£*"* em I say, make a run for it come back and loot the bodies and ... O she's gone.

The two imaginary forms stop and look on as Lady Zal says a few words and casts unseen-servant which she then sends to get the wand like item, while still hiding

Red and white look on wide eyed and then white says
Well Bugger me! Din't think of that!

Before they both winked out of being.

Lady Zal waits for her unseen-servant to bring it to her.

Lady Zal you need to make a Use Magic Device check, since it's not a spell on your list, to use the wand and it should be 2d8+3 since it's Cure Moderate Wounds.

Zed will stagger from the room and weakly try and get away from the shadows.

She says, chasing the other one around the room. You can tell she is running on Adrenalin from desperation and fear.


Spending 2 [Inspiration] to add 1d6 to attack, Touch Attack, 1d20 + 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (8) + (6) + 2 = 16

Watching the woman who was at first terrified of the shadows now chasing the remaining one around, Gnaarrg considers the sanity of her companions. Sighing, she draws the new pistol one more time and fires a shot at the shadow.

Seeing it's companion destroyed by the flash of positive energy from the wand in Lady Zal's hand, the second shadow seems to cower over one of the two skeletons on the floor, as if trying to shrink down inside it.... Lady Zal touches the shade with the wand, another flash of golden radiance brightens the dim cafe briefly, and with a wailing moan and sizzling, sputtering, flickering, the second shadow dissipates!

NNNOOOOOooooohhhh!!!!

*crackle!*....*poof!!*

Victory for the artifact miners!

These shadows have severely weakened Master Zed and Mistress Nalket.... Shall I use my daily reserve of nanodrugs to heal one or the other of them?

Now that the shadows have been eliminated, it is safe to search this room and the two skeletons. Besides the wand, the skeletons have on them:

4 potions in small silver vials
6 silverdisc batteries
A large peridot
A mithral bracelet with a violet gem setting (amethyst)

With the last shade away to true death. She slumps to the floor all the stress and anger gone. She looks over at Clinger and nods when he says he can help the others.

"Yes Clinger, please help them"

With great effort she gets up and looks around the room, in case there is anything that can help the others.

What she finds she places on a table. But for 2 silverdisc batteries which she places in her pouch. Then looks over the other items adding in the wand of CMW 23/50.

"Good thinking, Zal. Need to get myself something like that, in case we have to fight those blasted shadowy beasts again."

Looking at the collected items, Geirmur will pick up the peridot and mithril bracelet with interest.

"A fine couple pieces of jewelry. Hopefully a step on the way to getting ourselves some safe passage away from the Technic League."

He thinks back to the other unusual objects that the group has found so far, and messes with the set amethyst on the bracelet to see if it hides another function.

He watches with intent as Zal places the items on the table. "I'd like o-one of the b-batteries."

Nalket remains on the ground, eyes nearly closed, practically panting with weakness.


Clinger hesitates a moment, trying to decide whether to help Zed or Nalket....

Odds Zed, Evens Nalket.... 1d6 ⇒ 6

.... Finally buzzing over to land on Nalket's shoulder, where he briefly glows with a similar golden light to that emanated by the healing wand. Nalket feels the vigor restored to her limbs immediately....

The amethyst has no apparent function other than to magnify the bracelet's beauty and value.

Nalkets eyes harden as the buzzing mechanical insect flies over to her, but she is too weak to shoo it away. Finally, after it "stings" her, she sits up. She rubs her shoulder and then her arms as invigoration floods through her body, still watching Clinger suspiciously.

Finally, the tiny thrush on her shoulder says to Lady Zal in perfect Common, "Thank you. Nalket is suspicious of such devices, but clearly she needed the help."

Nalket fixes the thrush with her gaze and says, "Oh, quit talking."

She walks over to Zed and tries to help him up. But he is a lot heavier then he looks. So she hands him not one but two of the small round batteries.

Then as the bird talks to her she smiles

"O Sweet..., your thrush talks Nalket"

She looks at the bird

"Hello there, and whats your name?"

Then as if some thught had hit her she says

"O! Nalket could you look at that wand, I know its some kind of healing type but its very hard to work out how to use"

She stays with Zeb, helping him where she can.

Zed takes the offered batteries with a nod and tucks them into his bandolier. "Thanks Zal. W-what kind of vials are those?"

The thrush says to Zal, "I am Bronzewing! My name is a reflection of my magnificent color." The bird fluffs its tiny feathers and stretches to show off its yellowish plumage.

Nalket absently examines the wand, then says, "Yes... I see. It is filled with healing power. I wonder if it was made by the same people who made this place, or if it came from somewhere else?"
