Congratulations! Best of luck to you!

And I like the Tau... Though they need heavily reworked...

Mecha Tau are pretty sweet, but the whole space-communist thing doesn't do it for me.

They have potential though

Male Black Shield Librarian 4

I think the biggiest thing for me is the communism issue with tau. I think they'd be cooler without it, the peace crap just completely throws me off. But screw peace I just need the Chaos Gods! Death to the False Emperor!

Storm Warden Tactical Marine(Rank 1) Status Tracker & Current Weapon Stats(Temporary)

I guess every setting needs a Soviet Faction... Though the Imperium has a few Communist Styled Planets as well.

& Honestly they seem more Buddhist to me... Plus I like the Non-Psyker part of their lore.

BTW: I am currently posting through a tablet with a screen that hates me so I won't be able to post til tomorrow. On a side-note: Anyone here interested in Arcanis?

Male Black Shield Librarian 4

But the soviets are cooler than the tau.. :D

Psykers have always been a favorite for me. Hehe Tzeetch Thousand Sons. Tau also strike me as a blank sheet of paper just really boring I don't like their fluff. It seems me and you are almost opposite. But in 40k table-top 6th edition it seemed like Tau were ridiculous to fight, that and Imperial Guard. However with 7th Ive heard its not the case, I went to a swap meet and apparently Tau players are selling their stuff. Even though its tau i hate to see it. First of all, no matter how bad ur codex is you dont SELL your army. I had DA when they really sucked and didn't sell them. lol I play 100% different armies.. CSM and DA. There are Eldar and Tyranids poking around too ;D

Between using massive military might to propagate the "Greater Good" and having a strictly enforced caste system the Tau are much closer to commies than Buddhists.

Tau didn't take any major hits from 7th since they are a shooting army and the shooting rules are largely unchanged. They don't get to make as much use of the psychic phase, but so far only Daemons and Thousand Sons have actually benefited from it. People are just dumping off their armies because something about the new edition upset them for whatever reason, it happens with every release.

Storm Warden Tactical Marine(Rank 1) Status Tracker & Current Weapon Stats(Temporary)

I was meaning their Philosophy was like some Buddhist Leaders. Though their Castes are kinda Commie.

Another thing is they don't like that about 90% of the Tau Models that aren't Troops are getting new sculpts. So some might be selling their old models to get the new ones.

And how were they ridiculous? (NOTE: I didn't play 6th Edition. My group just modified the Infinity Rules to work with our 40K models and ran a Kill-Team Style Combats.)

Mostly their Riptide unit was incredibly powerful compared to other models with the same point costs. Paired with an eldar allies list with three Wave Serpents, 3 Riptides could lay down some serious punishment and were dominating competitive tournies until the very, very end of 6th.

Storm Warden Tactical Marine(Rank 1) Status Tracker & Current Weapon Stats(Temporary)

Allies? Isn't that only for Apocalypse?

Male Black Shield Librarian 4

Riptides were spammed in local GW tournaments. It was truly ridiculous. Even without them, ive seen tau power gamers who make ridiculous set-ups that are almost unbeatable.

Male Black Shield Librarian 4

LOL! truly you've missed alot. No, you can have allies in non-apoc games.

6th edition was made for shooty armies. However, CC armies not as much in my opinion. Especially orks..which is sad. Thankfully GW updated their codex.

Storm Warden Tactical Marine(Rank 1) Status Tracker & Current Weapon Stats(Temporary)

See having allies outside of Apocalypse doesn't make sense to me... Though I guess it would help newer gamers get into the game by partnering up.

And that is the problem I have seen with 40K is most of the people I have met that play it, WarmaHordes, and WHRB are mostly Power Gamers who only want to win and don't really care about anything else.

Male Black Shield Librarian 4

I hate power gaming. I'm more of a "stick to the fluff" and a balenced gamer. I just have fun.

I've been playing/collecting 40k models since I was 7 years old. Its been more than a game to me. I had alot of anger problems, and painting was an outlet for me. Playing this game gave me something me and my old man to talk about cause unfortunately we didn't see eye to eye on everything. It also paced my math at a very quick rate, which led to more advanced math classes. I think if more people played 40k we'd have more intellectuals and creativity flowing amongst the population. 40k has been a passion for me. Never will stop playing it.

Storm Warden Tactical Marine(Rank 1) Status Tracker & Current Weapon Stats(Temporary)

Any Miniature Game would help. Same with RPGs. It could even help with Literature and History if done right as well.

For me Fluff>Crunch

Valkyrie just arrived! Just had to respond to your roll of an 8 first.

Hammers of Dorn Assault Marine 1

I wasn't giving out, I was just getting a good mental image.

Also I was not trying to complain my way into the investigation party, I was just being in character. It's better that I'm not coz it's bed time and I won't be posting for the next 8 hours or so!

Male Human Dungeon Master

After these missions I will probably have you all give me input on what kind of Imperial Guard regiment you want to have with you. I will use the Only War book and the Hammer of the Emperor options to create this.

The only things it must have- Home World :Schola Progenium and Drawback: Cult of Chivalry. Certain choices I might veto based on concept. This is a regiment of Stormtroopers of the Ordo Hereticus so things like poorly provisioned would not make sense. Col. Folken is their commander, but you can choice his disposition, and I have not yet named the regiment so you may do that as well.

I know you all might not have access to those books so when it gets closer I will post more specifics of the types of things you can ask for, but for now you can all talk about it. I will probably let each person make a choice on a category so it is fair. Working together will make a more balanced regiment for you though.

Understood and well done.

Storm Warden Tactical Marine(Rank 1) Status Tracker & Current Weapon Stats(Temporary)

Oh no IC he didn't know of your knowledge upon learning it he thinks you would work best in the rear guard just in-case you spy something the rest of us miss.

Maybe modify the Karskin Regiment that is in Hammer of the Emperor.

Simplified Regiment Creation

Simplified versions of some of the tables for regiment creation. They focus entirely on the fluff aspects and not the crunch, and since we will likely mostly be working on fluff suggestions it shouldn't be a problem.

I personally always recommend rolling and then each person explains a different roll, but pick and choose can sometimes work too if everyone is cooperating.

Storm Warden Tactical Marine(Rank 1) Status Tracker & Current Weapon Stats(Temporary)

Might I request Grenadiers, Reconnaissance, or Guerrillas for the Regiment Type? Mainly because I have a Drop Trooper, Mechanised Infantryman, and a Artillery Gunner all running in my IRL Only War Campaign. Though I wouldn't be opposed to an Armoured Regiment but can't really see that being used much... Reconnaissance seems fitting though. Scouting out the Mission then sending in the Deathwatch to take out the big targets.

Dark Archive

Male Human Dungeon Master

Those tables are interesting, but there will be mechanics involved. In Rites of Battle there is rules for acquiring Imperial Assets and their will be missions where you might need to do a Cordon and Search type mission(I was in the Armored Cav and I draw some of these missions from real-life experiences). I will simplify things, but lets say you want your artillery regiment to do some recon, or vice versa there will be penalties.

There is of course the Sisters, the Assassins, and a single Grey Knight and many Inquisitors and acolytes as well. So it all depends on what you need accomplished.

One of the reasons I mentioned creating a regiment is someone asked about doing Only War. I could add some Stormtrooper missions to this fairly easily if we had enough interested. I would make another game, but give some links in the Campaign tab.

I understand.

Do you want us to start throwing out ideas now or wait for some other time?

Male Black Shield Librarian 4

I'm not familiar at all with Only War. In fact I've never played. I've maybe glanced a couple times at the rulebook. But I've played Rogue Trader, Deathwatch, and Black Crusade. Never played Only war, primarily because I was just never an avid fan of Guard

Yeah just talk about it with each other. I will list the options soon, it is just a daunting task.

Storm Warden Tactical Marine(Rank 1) Status Tracker & Current Weapon Stats(Temporary)

If you want I am building multiple regiments, for my IRL game after a TPK (Fragging Chaos), and am used to the rules.

I guess we could have multiple Regiments to choose from. After all having different Squads available would be viable for the Inquisitors.

EDIT: There is also the Mixed Regiment Rules we could use.

Storm Warden Tactical Marine(Rank 1) Status Tracker & Current Weapon Stats(Temporary)

Huh... I know why the example of Requisition in the Core Rulebook doesn't match the Setting Requisition comments. It was Errata'd and that is why the Errata Table is actually lower in the amounts it gives.

So I'd like to preface by saying that I don't actually have access to Only War or Hammer of the Emperor right now, so I'm basically working off of those tables that I linked too earlier. That being said, below I did a bare-bones write up of some of my ideas for the regiment. I left many blanks and loosely explained information so that others may expand, change, or create whatever they see fit. I also tried to incorporate the suggestions made by Brother Gaius as well as the guidelines given by Nimon. Please feel free to comment, criticize, or ignore entirely in favor of your own suggestions.

Regiment Name: Tybraun 126th "Heralds of Glory"
Regiment Classification: Imperial Guard

Nature of Recruitment:
Planet Name/Type: Tybraun IX/Schola Progenium
Planet Terrain:
Regiment Core Units: Shock Troopers
Specialization: Shock & Awe (Grenadiers)
Loyalty:
Special Equipment: Augmented Troops
Regiment Creed: Best of the Best (Cult of Chivalry)
Regiment Friends: Adeptus Astartes (Black Templar)
Regiment Enemies:

Located on the outer ridges of Imperial controlled space, the Tybraun system was colonized in the latter part of M37. Shortly thereafter the ninth planet in the system was designated Schola Progenium and began to take in waifs for training, not only from Tybraun but from a dozen other neighboring systems as well.

Midway through the 38th Millennium a sizable Ork WAAAAAGH! led by the brutal and cunning Lord-Boss Ripp Shanka made it's way into Imperium territory from unexplored space . At the head of the orks advance was the Tybraun system. Hopelessly outnumbered and outgunned the various planetary governors sent out a cry for a help, and it was answered. Nearby Adeptus Astartes responded, an entire company belonging to the Black Templars chapter had been crusading nearby and proceeded to swarm towards Tybraun when news of the xeno incursion came.

The fighting was brutal and intense, lasting nearly 50 standard Imperial years. In the end the orks were driven off, though at great cost to both the Templars and the local PDF forces. Needing new recruits the Astrates fleet remained in the system after the battle to recoup its losses, claiming the people of the sector as repayment for their services. They chose Tybraun IX as their main recruiting center as most of the necessary facilities and talent had already been gathered by local missionaries, the marines merely had to make an alteration to the "acceptance policies". Candidates were put through countless hours of simulation and mock training before being scooped up, en mass, and let out into the field for live training and conditioning, all overseen by the fleets recruit masters. It took a mere decade for the Black Templars to collect a satisfactory number of new Neophytes and cleanse the remaining orks from the sytem, and once they had they immediately set about continuing their righteous crusade.

Though the Space Marines had already taken what they needed and left the effect on Tybraun IX was noticeable. They decided to retain the recruitment principals of the Templars, though to a "lesser" degree to increase the number of accepted candidates. This resulted in regiments of incredibly loyal, highly-trained Imperial Guardsmen that specialized in hard-hitting tactics that were similar to those of the Emperors Chosen. Similar by way that many of the philosophies of the marines had to be adapted for human use. Focus on destructive hand-to-hand combat was instead moved more towards close-ranged shock tactics. Heavy weapons were largely replaced by grenade launchers and hot-shot lasguns since they were much easier to deploy in great numbers than meltas or heavy bolters (many had been claimed as spoils of war by the Templars) while large quantities of explosives helped fill the remaining gap between normal and super-human.

Regiments raised from Tybraun are often best suited in the roles Stormtroopers and are often deployed under the yoke of Ordo Hereticus. Their selection of equipment make them ideal sappers and grenadiers, geared best towards frontal assaults meant to cripple the enemy both mentally and physically. Their past experience with members of the Adeptus Astartes also make them especially apt at working with them both politically and on the battledield (an endeavor that is not always easy). In fact, some say that Tybraun troops are MORE comfortable when sharing a transport with a marine than without. Emulation of their once-saviors extends even further as some veterans go to great lengths to undergo extensive bionic reconstruction, forming themselves into so-called "Grinder" squads that seek to recapture some of their idols aptitude in melee combat through sword and faith.

You all probably read a discussion that degenerated into childlike bickering on the recruitment thread. I will take responsibility for my end of it. I think it would be best that from now on if you have an issue with a ruling, for the sake of moving things along due to the format we are playing, that you send me a Private Message about it.

If you insult me, I will insult you back. I am not a kind man, I want to be and that is why I try to be more social taking babysteps. People push my buttons very easy. If that is your aim, just PM me we can curse each other on that all day in our own privacy without subjecting others to it.

Male Irish

If you insult the GM then either you're stupid or you don't like your character or the game any more.

I have kicked players from my games for insulting me, and I'd do it again!

So in light of all of that we need to nominate a temporary leader for the remainder of this mission.

I nominate the tech-marine personally.

Male Black Shield Librarian 4

I have a pretty nice Fellowship score of 50. In the future I could maybe get the "We are all One" deed. It gives me the Command skill.
Are you only allowed to buy deeds at creation?

Also I just saw the recruitment thread. Could someone explain to me what happened to start it? Someone other than Nimon, I mean no disrespect when I request that, I just would like a 3rd party non-biased answer.

No you can get deeds at any time, but they have to be made available to you from one of your advancements.

Also IC following a black shield isn't something I'd be super comfortable with, especially one that's also a librarian. However, if the rest of the group has no objections than I will gladly fall under your yoke as well.

Another possibility, though as more of a backup option, would be for myself to drop the Lone Survivor deed which would put us back up to two tac-marines capable of leading missions. Of course that would be at Nimons discretion.

Ultramarine Devastator (Rank 7), Deathwatch Keeper

I've built Lucian to work towards a command position, so he has a good Fel and Command Trained, so although he doesn't have the Tactical Expertise ability, he's a perfectly serviceable leader, if everyone is happy to accept him as their leader.

The problem being that you are deployed on a separate mission right now. I'm just speaking for the immediate completion of the current operation, otherwise I have no real objections.

Ultramarine Devastator (Rank 7), Deathwatch Keeper

Good point, my bad.

Male Black Shield Librarian 4

Well lets have a vote shall we and solve this?
The Candidates
Brother-Librarian Tellemachus-
Brother Lucian-
Can we assume its fair if the Candidates do not cast a vote. That way we can't vote for ourselves.

Again we need a stand-in leader for the current mission, so we can't use Lucian at the moment. And I also consider Brother Leon a candidate, so he would have my vote.

Male Black Shield Librarian 4

Ah thats right:
Updated List of Candidates↓
Tellemachus-0
Leon-1

Are you sure Leon wants to? It seems as though you're volunteering him. Might wanna ask him 1st. Nonetheless, the above should be correct.

Technically I'm nominating him, but he hasn't contributed to the discussion yet. Obviously if he wants to turn it down he is free to do so, I just think it's prudent for a tech-marine to be handling this mission given how much involvement with tech and relics we've had thus far.

Dark Archive

Male Human Dungeon Master

Honestly it is a non-issue. Your mission is done for the most part. Soon there will be another mission.

Dark Archive

Male Human Dungeon Master

With the exception of a few loose ends, the missions are effectively complete now. I assume you will load up the thunderhawk with what was found in the bunker and head back for debriefing. Feel free to post other things you wish to do before that happens.

My next post tonight will be here in discussion, I will give a detailed AAR-After Action Review where I reward individuals based on the criteria I mentioned on the first post.Best Role Player, Best Kill, Best Use of a Fate Point

You as the players get to chose your MVP. This is based on what ever criteria you wish, but please have a reason.

In addition I would like some feedback. This is your time to bring up things I did wrong and try to constructively come to a solution. This is best done in Private Messages I think, but if a change is made I will post it in the F.A.Qs and here.

Team 2 Your mission was cut short, and only consisted of two of you. I will reward each of you a Fate Point.

If you are full on fate points, 5/5, then you will instead receive an honorable mention. Three honorable mentions will get you a purity seal/medal. There will be other ways of obtaining medals and seals.

Male Human Dungeon Master

After Action Review Mission One:Grangold

Best Role Player- Brother Hallan. He consistently was in character, he played the "lone survivor" well, and most importantly for me, he followed orders even when he might not have agreed with them as a Kill-Team member should. I appreciate all of you posting in character, and I am sure Brother Hallan will have some competition soon.

Best Kill- Brother Hallan.I do not like to do this, but this is a competition to some degree, and I really enjoyed Brother Hallan killing that scout begrudgingly just before the Assualt Marine could get to him. I know there was not much combat, I was hoping to dust off the ol'rule book and see how we all meshed. I think with the individuals we have left we will have a good game. So even though I like to give everyone a little bonus, I want to make it clear that it is possible, though unlikely, to get more than one of these.

Best Use of Fate Point Brother Thedius. I really appreciate when fate points are used outside of basic combat. Using it to reroll an awareness test shows you put the team and mission first and not just personal glory.

Choose an MVP. You can not chose yourself. In case of a tie-I will be the tie-breaker, otherwise I get no vote. This is who you appreciated the most for what ever reason

Experience Two easy encounters-100xp. Primary Objective-300xp
Secondary Objective-150 Tertiary Objective partially met, but due to circumstances awarding you the points-50 In addition Brother Leon will be awarded an extra 50xp for his extensive diligence in during this mission. There will be missions that will use all of your expertise and you will all get a chance to shine I promise you.600 xp total650 for Brother Leon.

*As far as a critique for myself, I noticed when I went back through looking at who said what that I had missed some posts. This can happen due to edits or posting at the same time. If I do not respond to you it is likely this has happened, shot me a PM and I will adjust it. *

MVP Vote:

Brother Valerio Leon

Reason:

With no one else possessing Tech-Use (at least to my knowledge) it would have literally been impossible to accomplish our primary, and likely our secondary objective, without the services of our resident tech-marine.

Dark Archive

Male Human Dungeon Master

Forgot to put down how much renown you have all gained.5 Renown. 3 for the mission+2 extra for impressing the Dreadnoughts by not gaining a single wound during combat.(a few insanity points maybe, but hey it builds character.)

Male Crimson Fists Techmarine

I'm honored for the vote of confidence Lutha, even if it turned out to be unnecessary.

As for my vote,

MVP:
Brother Tellemachus

Reason:

Even though there were a slew of unlucky rolls, if it wasn't for sensing the mutants before the siege we could have had a much more difficult time dealing with them. The rest was just unfortunate strokes of bad luck
