GM SuperTumbler |

I'm assuming that we are slow in posting because of out of game issues. Glenda has stated as much, and I think Snorri did earlier. If that is the case, I'm fine with going slow. But if there is something I'm doing that is slowing things down, please let me know. I really don't want this campaign to die.

Snorri Tharnhammer |

An explanation and an apology are both needed and overdue.
Recently, I've begun to feel out of phase with all PbP RPGs that I've been playing, either as a GM or a player. If any of you were in my games, you know that I've entered a hiatus of undefined length, thinking it was GM burnout. Apparently, it was not only that. Despite my life stabilizing in a new routine as I started my PhD, something has changed in my mind, and playing has become to feel more and more as a chore and less of a pleasure. It's not the stories, the GMs or the other players, I've been enjoying immensely the games until now: I think I've just saturated myself with PbP, with reading and reacting, and with the engagement every day. I've tried to soldier on, hoping it was just a phase, but in the end I can't force myself to play against my will.
I honestly don't know if and when I'll be coming back. This is agonizing, Snorri is one of the characters who have given me the most emotions while playing. Perhaps someone (either a current player or a new recruit) could take over him? I'm sorry for the disruption to the plot, but I don't feel like I'm in any state of mind to make meaningful contributions.
If/when I feel more like the player I was, I hope that you'll be here to come back to, but if it doesn't happen I'd like you to know that it's been a pleasure to play with you all.
Merry gaming, may your rolls be high and your loot be plentiful.

Dasur Deepborn |

Don't fret Snorri, the fires of creativity wax and wane. It was a pleasure playing with you, and best of luck with your PhD. I spent 2 years getting a Masters of Chemistry in preperation to enter a PhD program, but burned out publishing a paper and a huge thesis that I put way too much effort into. Whatever field you're in, pace yourself, and keep your eye on the prize. You'll get there.
GM- would you like to call it here, or shall we recruit?

GM SuperTumbler |

Heartbroken to hear it, but I understand. We are here for fun, no one wants it to feel like a chore.
I love this game, so I would hate to see it end, but how best to continue? Snorri is the heart of the group and focus of our purpose. Do you guys think it is possible to “recast” Snorri with a new player? Does anyone want to take him over?
I could disappear him for a while, whisk him off closer to Dammerhall and you guys have to keep up.

Torvi Stonesinger |

I spent 4 years in grad school myself working towards a PhD, but in the end, I decided "at what cost?" So I snatched up my Masters and was done with it and never looked back. If I was to do another degree, it would likely be a Masters in History, or something else that's just for me, and not at all useful for me in the business world.
We could get someone to play Snorri. Anyone have any candidates? You've all been in the group longer than me, so recommend someone if you have someone.

Glenda Dalduraz |

I wasn't smart enough for grad school so I just went back into workin' in my field, which fortunately still has room for people with experience who don't have an advanced degree.
Not sure who to recommend for a replacement Snorri. I could maybe ping around a few players I know, though some would probably not be into this style of game, and others might not be a good fit for the character.

Dasur Deepborn |

Honestly I'm neutral- I've been saying I need to reduce the number of games I'm in for two years now, not because of time commitment but more attention/brainspace management. However I'm too stupid/stubborn/loyal to quit any of them so I just stay at it. It's kind of bizzare how all of my games just keep going when most PbP don't make it past the first week.
Nice recruitment thread GM. We'll see if we can find someone to step into Snorri's shoes.

Javell DeLeon |

Hello all! Appreciate y'all allowing me to be a part of this one.
I'll get to work on getting a profile up.
This is how his name will look on his profile.
Snorri_Tharnhammer
Is that cool? I'll be adding the underscore because that's the only way I can actually use the same name by throwing something extra in there. If you folks have a different/better idea please let me know. I'm good with whatever.
I'll try to get him done asap but it's probably going to be the weekend if I had to bet on it.

GM SuperTumbler |

That is an elegant enough solution. I hadn't even thought about the renaming. I'm working a 30 hours the next two days, so I don't mind waiting until the weekend.
I'm so happy that this seems to have worked out so well. Of course, Sapiens/Original Snorri, if you ever get your mojo back, please come back to us.
We will just continue straight into the current scenario if that works for everyone. And Javell, if you want to make any tweaks we can talk about them here. We should be leveling fairly soon, so that would be another opportunity to make any adjustments you felt like making.
TO DAMMERHALL!

Javell DeLeon |

Okay, I've got something that I'm curious about. Would it be possible to take this archetype: Tempered Champion?
Is it possible to use that archetype and not use your deity's favored weapon? Because I really think that archetype is pretty dang fitting. Reading it, it doesn't appear that it's mandatory to have to use your deity's favored weapon but I tend to miss things. Like a lot. I wish I was kidding. :P
I know it loses spellcasting but I'm not really a huge fan of casting. Played casters but really not my bread and butter.
But having said that, I can roll with whatever. I just want to make sure it's cool with you folks AND it flows well with the pc himself. It's GOT to fit who he is for sure. Otherwise it's going to annoy me. :P
Let me know.

Javell DeLeon |

You know, I read that a thousand times and TOTALLY didn't even think about that most of those feats - if not all - require choosing a weapon. *Facepalm!* For some reason I was thinking along some other line and don't know why.
Okay, never mind.
Edit: You know, it should just say: "You must use your deity's favored weapon" because you pretty much do. Don't get this whole beating-around-the-bush bit with this "If..." business. Makes no sense. Killing me, Paizo! Kill-ing me! :P

Torvi Stonesinger |

So the party now is:
New Snorri - Paladin
Glenda - Cleric
Dasur - Wizard
Torvi - Skald
Erebos - Demonspawn of Lolth herself
Iverna - moderately useful, and properly deferential gnome rogue type
I do advocate for another PC. Now it could be someone taking over Iverna, to make her a full party member, although that could create problems later, as she'd be a racial outcast in a proper dwarf kingdom. Or, another battle hardened dwarf would be nice. A Barbarian, or maybe a Deep Ranger?

Javell DeLeon |

You could also add an honorific, like “Snorri, Scion of Tharnhammer” if you want an alias with ousting an underscore.
That's pretty cool. You know, I could roll with either. What do you all think? Which would y'all prefer? It's all good to me either way.

Javell DeLeon |

Okay, a couple of things. First off, here's Snorri
Just ignore the spoiler. I've got a dwarven stonelord I'm gonna play one of these days(I hope) so just ignore that.
Also, Paizo's avatar page is still down. So until it comes back up, I figured I'd just run with this pc I've built already. Otherwise, I'd be running an alias with no pic so I figured I could just borrow this one for now. As soon as the avatars become available again then I'll change it.
I'm probably gonna tweak his skills and stats a bit. Going to roll with hp's instead of extra skill points per the favored class bonus. I just like hp's better. :)
Also going to see what I can do to try to find a way to get his Con to 16. Or maybe at the very least a 15. Would also like to get his Wisdom up to 12 but we'll see. Can't do everything. :P
Would these few tweaks be okay? Outside of that I'm pretty much going to leave him as is. Ultimately it's a few less skills and few more hp's is what I'm working toward. Possibly a slight bit better on will saves if possible. Strength and Charisma ain't changing.

GM SuperTumbler |

The link isn't going anywhere for me for some reason. Just gives me a "search didn't match any items" message.
Those changes sound fine. There was a package of different ability score modifiers at character creation. If you are working on the math of ability scores, those are probably important to know.
Clever Hands
You are born artisan, cunning and quick with your hands. Whether you have chosen to use these gifts for noble pursuits or becoming a thief does not matter, you are mistrusted regardless by your fellow dwarves.
Benefit: +2 Dexterity, +2 Intelligence, -2 Charisma
Respected Speaker
You are a rare dwarf who is both eloquent and a born leader. Your words are given extra consideration amongst your people. However, by dwarven standards you are physically inept.
Benefit: +2 Charisma, +2 Wisdom, -2 Strength
Scholar of the Ancient Ways
You are a learned dwarf, well steeped in the ancient lore of your people. However, all this focus upon book learning has kept you away from more physical pursuits. You are thus small and sickly by dwarven standards.
Benefit: +2 Intelligence, +2 Wisdom, -2 Constitution
Trickster and Singer
Dwarves have a reputation as being a stolid, humorless people. But there are few dwarves, usually fine singers and storytellers, who are given leeway for being charismatic and quick of hand and wit. Of course, these brash tricksters are still often in trouble.
Benefit: +2 Charisma, +2 Dexterity, -2 Wisdom
Warrior of Legend
You were born for war. No one matches your prowess in battle, but alas also no one matches your recklessness.
Benefit: +2 Constitution, +2 Strength, -2 Wisdom
It might be worth looking at the character creation notes at the beginning of the recruitment. I wasn't the GM at that point, but we have maintained those rules.
As for the abilities, remember you are only 5th level. There will be opportunities to find good loot for boosting abilities. Also, we should level somewhat soon.

Javell DeLeon |

Ugh! What the heck? Okay, let's try that again. Snorri (I've got the underscore currently but I can change it to the "Scion" bit if y'all prefer)
Now that one works. At least it should.
And yes I did check out the original recruit. I was wondering where he got the +2 str/con and -2 wisdom and found it.
Alright. Will leave the abilities as is then.
I'm curious though. This is Throne of Night that was made by the same dude who did Way of the Wicked. But I've heard he only finished the first book and a lot of folks were pretty ticked off he never finished the rest. If so, what does that mean for team dwarves after we've completed this part of the adventure? Again, just curious. It's been a while since I've heard anything about it so it's possible he may have actually finished it but I just don't know.

GM SuperTumbler |

Great question! Throne of Night was an adventure path Kickstarted by Fire Mountain Games (which was basically one guy, but I won't name him here as to not offer him any power). Ironically, even though I had kickstarted several projects, I was short of funds at that point, so a friend of mine (who I've played with for 17 years face to face) pledged to the project for me. The Kickstarter only delivered 2 of the promised 6 volumes. There is much bitterness surrounding this project, but none of that has trickled into this campaign.
Fortunately, I have decades of materials on my shelves, so I can repurpose materials to continue the campaign. I actually had a face to face version of this game at one point, but they TPKd before it was necessary to get into homebrew. I currently have plans at least through level 12, so I'm not worried about the future for this group.
Sadly, Gary has finished nothing, and refuses to communicate about any of it. In my book, he is a massive jerk.

Javell DeLeon |

Ugh! These boards are killing me. I could've sworn I posted something last night.
Anyhow, you know I did not know that 2 of them actually got done. So that is a surprise to me.
Well cool then. That sounds cool. I was curious if it was going to go much further. Of course, I guess that's all gonna depend if we make it past the TPK part. :P

Javell DeLeon |

Okay, what is this exactly: +1 gunzarak keen dragon-bane greataxe? I guess what I'm going for is what is a "gunzarak"?
And I'm guessing that's his main weapon? He does technically possess it, correct? The reason I ask is because that's a pretty fantastic weapon to own at 5th level. To put it in perspective, I've got a 12th level/Mythic 5 barbarian who uses a +2 weapon. That's it. Well, it's cold iron. :)
Not complaining! No siree! If he actually has it then that's all good to me! :) I just figured I'd better ask just to be sure.

Torvi Stonesinger |

Gunzarak is described in this post

Javell DeLeon |

WHOAAAA! You have GOT to be kidding me! That is freaking awesome! Okay, okay, I think I can work with that. :P
Man that is probably the coolest weapon I have ever seen. Reading some of his earlier posts, I wondered why he kept typing "True mithral".
Also, per the name: Do you all prefer "Scion" or the underscore? I can do either. I've currently got the underscore but I can change it. It truly makes no difference to me.
Another question: How much does the party know about the 'Voice' in Dasur's head? Or do we just think he's nuts? ;) Or do/have we even questioned it?

Javell DeLeon |

Got him pretty much done. Got to finish cleaning it up though. I tweaked a few things but nothing major really. And 'few' may be a stretch to be honest.
@GM: Would you be opposed to me rolling with a Mwk Backpack and possibly some artisans tools(armor specifically)? Or does that kind of mess with the suspension of disbelief? No worries at all if not. Just figured I'd ask just in case. Just more of a 'handy' type thing so it's really not critical by any stretch.

Javell DeLeon |

Who plays Firetalon? Is it DAP or the GM?
Okay now that I think about it, is DAP still with you?
Okay again, now that I look at it, it appears they are not, correct?
Edit: And also Zolexa would appear to be gone as well seeing how her last post was August of '17. :P
Daaaang. It would appear y'all are down to 3. I didn't even realize that still I started checking into it.

GM SuperTumbler |

I think I prefer the Scion version of the alias name. I'll take a look at the build. Hold off on the backpack and tools, but there will be opportunities to trade for some goods in the relatively near future.
We lost Firetalon and I kept the character going for the time being. We are down to 3, plus you. I'm currently looking for a 4th.
Loot has been strange in this campaign. Not so many small things, but some pretty awesome big things. At this point, Dasur is carrying an uncompleted staff that could be pretty great. Glenda is wearing a helmet angel.
Torvi doesn't have anything great yet, but partly because they've given the best martial loot to Snorri.
And the dragon bane part of the axe is cool and all, but obviously only useful when it comes up. The material is pretty epic.

Javell DeLeon |

Sounds good. And Scion is in for the win then! Outside of that, let me know if you've got any questions about him.
I switched out Lorekeeper for Craftsman. Personally I like it better and - strictly in my opinion now - I feel like it fits him better.
And I went with hp's over skill points for favored class bonus. I just like hp's for my martial characters over skill points.
Can't really think of too much else I tweaked off hand. Don't really think there's anything else but you never know.

Javell DeLeon |

You know I was thinking Firetalon was a rogue. Come to find out she's obviously a druid.
Do you all think we might need a rogue instead of another fighter? Or have y'all ever had a rogue? It's all good to me either way I'm just curious and wondering which might be better. I know Brother G has an awesome fighter but it almost seems like a flood of melee folks. Which is fine but I just figured I'd throw that out there.
Honestly though, if this AP is anything like Way of the Wicked another fighter is probably going to be needed. He likes having tough encounters. I was in a Wicked game many moons ago(it died of course) and we were... 2nd level? I wanna say? Pretty sure we weren't 1st. Anyway, we run into these undead with greataxes! One of our pc's got critted and that was that. Dude had to create a new pc pretty much right off the bat. Crazy.
I'm also curious if we are going to keep the druid from now on? I only ask because I feel bad for Tumbler having to run 2 extra pc's on top of running this thing. Seems like a ton more responsibility.
And if I'm overstepping my bounds on any of this please just disregard. I know I'm all new to the team and any way y'all want to roll with it works for me but I just figured I'd throw a few thoughts out there.
