Here is a place to discuss the game out of character. For now it's mostly here as a place holder. We'll talk more about it later.

Below is a quick guide to PBP and my expectations as a GM:

I will need all of you to get an alias set up in your characters name. I would like your basic build and gear on his/her information section (I'll have a sample format I'm my alias that you can use. Also if anyone needs help creating their alias, feel free to ask).

To make things faster, I will roll initiative checks. I'll post the order of turns and who's up next. Feel free to post out of turn and I will try to adjust accordingly if something changes. Also feel free to simply wait till your turn.

If you see something like this:

DC 1 perception check:
it means you can click, show if you roll a perception and meet that DC.

If you need help formatting your post, just click "show"below next to how to format your post.

I would like most of the ooc chat to be contained in this thread, however I understand that sometimes you will need quick brief clarification, so use the ooc format in those instances

To make it easier for all, anything your character actually says out loud please put in bold.

Any time you could possibly do damage, please roll it with your attack rolls. This you don't have to wait for me to say "It hit, now roll damage."

For battle, I will try to have maps of each battle posted and updated regularly. What I would prefer your battle post look like, is a description of your characters actions (feel free to be as creative as you'd like with your descriptions) followed by a spoiler with the more specific; mover, standard, full-round, swift, free description(example below). But that's really up to you. My job here is to help you all have fun. So the way you choose to do it is fine as long as it's clear.

On that note, if you have a complaint about the way I do anything, feel free to talk to me. I will try to listen and fix the problem if I can. However as the GM I reserve the right to be right.

Any questions?

Male Human Magus (Bladebound) 5

"Magic freak, huh?" Senthiri's hand glows briefly. The light passes to his sword, then disappears. Senthiri takes a quick step and pulls some powdered iron from one of the pouches at his side. He chants while moving his hand in very measured, precise movements. Suddenly Senthiri grows to nearly 12 feet in height.

DM:

Actions:Swift action-use one point from Arcane pool to add +1 enhancement to my longsword for 1 minute; 5-foot step to h4; full round action:Cast enlarge person on myself, duration, 1 minute.

Male Human Magus (Bladebound) 5

Oh, and feel free to take a look at Senthiri's profile for a nice format.

Though I don't need your background stories there if you've given them to me previously.

Post.

How do I make an alias?

At the very top of the page go click "My Account." You'll have to sign in again.

About half-way down the page there's a link that says, "Create new messageboard alias." It'll ask you for a name and you can choose a picture to go with your name.

Male Tiefling Wizard (Divination: Foresight) 1

This is mostly intended as a test post, but I've put together a profile for this campaign. It's not fully stated because I decided I liked Gax better as a tiefling than as an elf (he's a bit seedy to be an elf). Abilities, Skills, Traits, Background, and Feats are in the profile but weapons, saves, AC/weapons/hp/cmb/cmd, and gear I'm still working on.

Take a look at Gax.

PS: This is Toine (Anthony)

It looks great. I love the background, and I really appreciate the detail you've gone into for skills and abilities.

How would you feel if I used some of your background characters in the campaign? Not that I have any ideas for it yet, but I might at some point, and it would bee a good thing to know. This question goes for everybody.

Male Tiefling Wizard (Divination: Foresight) 1

I deliberately tried to include some named characters so that you had the option of including them. I figured that having a history makes it so that at some points my toon's history can pop up in the story, which I like.

Oh, I'll note that I've revised the background to include a couple other names: Isery, Gax's demonic mother, and Cetyi Kosap, the matriarch at the rural temple where Gax was raised. I meant to include those, but I didn't get around to coming up with names for them until just now.

Heya thats a start for my toon. got lots more to put in. Ben let me know if i need to adjust my formating

Alright, so we're almost set to go. Just waiting for a couple more things. But I think it's close enough that we can start taking care of some mechanics.

Format: I can see that most of you were able to get the spoiler format down, which I'll take to mean that you got much of the other format stuff down. The one thing I know I've had a few questions on is dice. That is also part of the forum. If you click show at the bottom of this forum, you can see dice at the bottom. It's fairly simple. The nice thing about it is that you can roll anything with it. 1d1001 + 3 ⇒ (267) + 3 = 270 That part will be more useful for me than you, but it is there.

Profiles: Those that are complete look great. Thank you guys.

So, here's our party;
Gax, the Tiefling Wizard Divination; Foresight
Kharn, the Damphir Cleric (Undead Lord) (Negative Energy)
Bullpup Rustycap, the Gully Dwarf Rogue
???, the Druegar Monk (Gray Disciple)
???, the Human Paladin

So you guys will be heavy on magic, with a good amount of melee. You will need to be aware of healing. Some of you have access to it, but not as much as say, a healing Cleric. So be aware.

We will be starting out in a small town in Varisia called Sirathu. I'll be starting you in a tavern, you can come in for your own reasons (Such as chasing a dark furry naked tail). I'll have the first post up by Monday, after that you can post your entry to the tavern at any time.

Additional traits: To go with your bakcgrounds, I'm giving you each an additional trait;

Gax, Charismatic Foresight; Your gift with foresight helps you in your scams. You gain a +1 trait bonus to Bluff and Dimplomacy.

Kharn, Mental Instability; Your insanity protects you against mental attacks. +2 trait bonus to saves against Confusion and Insanity.

Bullpup, Animal Experience; Your experience with footie and your friends pets has helped you learn how to work with animals. +2 trait bonus to Handle Animal.

Everyone else, I'll post it up when you get finished.

Now, any questions? About mechanics, setting or anything?

Heya Ben can we get a little more description as to wheree this town we are starting in is and the countryside/city area around it? Also what "kingdom is it in? All of these should influence when and why we came to town and what we are doing there.

I will try to get the rest of my story and all up by sat but am on my work week so not sure if it will be completed by then.

Also: How do you want me to enter my animal stats?

I'm working on the description, but it is a dryish area. And as I said it is in Varisia. It's shown on the map, just south of the Cinderlands along the Yandabakari River. It's a small town, population of about 300. Has a reputation for high crime element, but some of you may have possibly heard rumors that someone is trying to clean up the town. Being so close to the Cinderlands (large expanse of dead area, mostly controlled by orcs) it does deal with raids occasionally. But since it is not the closest town, it's not extremely often. It is a holding of Korvosa so they take care of protecting it from raids.

Varisia is a loose holding of several different city-states that are constantly fighting to control the land.

And add far as pet stats go, just the things about them that is not in the bestiary. Ex. Tricks they've been trained in.

1d20 + 12 ⇒ (16) + 12 = 28

Male Tiefling Wizard (Divination: Foresight) 1

Testing the dice, oh-oh, this whole post is just a test of the device.

Gax scans the tavern for easy marks. Perception 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (10) + 0 = 10

Upon realizing that the room is populated by a half dozen demilichs he pulls out a dagger and stabs the nearest one. 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (3) - 1 = 2 1d4 - 1 ⇒ (3) - 1 = 2

His previous attack having done whatever it did, Gax then throws the dagger at another demi-lich just ten feet from him. 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13 1d4 - 1 ⇒ (1) - 1 = 0

His mighty attacks now complete, the nearest demilich then attacks, casting Canoptic Conversion. Gax takes 20d6 ⇒ (2, 1, 5, 6, 1, 1, 5, 5, 4, 6, 4, 4, 1, 2, 4, 3, 5, 1, 6, 5) = 71)damage (DC25 Fortitude Check to halve damage 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5).

As Gax (almost assuredly slips unto unconsciousness with a massive number of negative hitpoints) he looks at the demilich and asks with horror: You have class levels?

The Demilichs laugh coldly.

Oh look this boot smells like momma

Spoiler:
bullpup grabs the boot and scampers to the corner where he plops down with the boot and starts caressing it singing a little song he learned long ago.

"Water that's muddy and nice fuzzy cheese, high blup is wise and fleadorp is lazy, humm humm humm humm, no footie i am not sharing with you."

A crash sounds, echoing through the tavern. A large DMly voice comes immediately after it, "I LEAVE FOR A FEW DAYS AND YOU GET IN A BAR FIGHT?!?"

After a few moments of silence the voice speaks again, this time much softer, "That's okay, I forgive you. This time. But stop this foolishness and get over to the Gameplay tab. I have started the game." A large finger appears and points at the top of the page. "And don't think I won't know if you don't"

Alright, all here and accounted for. For Marcus' trait

Innocent Vision: Your concern for finding and protecting the innocent helps keep you vigilant. You gain a +1 trait bonus to Sense Motive and Perception.

Now, let's get started.

Male Tiefling Wizard (Divination: Foresight) 1

Awe, come on, a natural one on my bluff check?!?! >:(

Male Human Paladin (Divine Defender)/1

I believe the dice have turned on us.... Gax with his natural 1 and me with my 4.... Perhaps if we could train them?

Male Gully Dwarf Rogue

Sorry about not responding I was sick last night and in bed all day today.

No biggie, just checking to make sure you weren't going in to the fight. I'll post the thugs actions tomorrow morning.

There is more from Henneska, but it will have to come later today.

Just letting everyone know, I am going camping for the weekend. I may put up another response or two before I go, but after that I probably won't be on again till until Monday.

I was kinda wondering what happened until late Saturady night when I saw this message

Male Gully Dwarf Rogue

you are correct about the gully dwarf with one exception. I would be a very dirty and smelly kid.

Male Tiefling Wizard (Divination: Foresight) 1

Am I stepping on anyone's toes with the way I'm playing? I feel like some of my posts are a little long and I don't want to monopolize our story. I'm trying to RP as Gax would though, which is to really mix it up and try to make people think he knows more than he does to make himself kind of the center of the group.

@Tobia Are you playing with formatting there? Rolling up a character for something? . . . meh. Whatever. Anyway, with you I just want to make sure that I have it clear about the spoiler with the dc 20 Sense motive. That is info for you only, but only if you meet the dc 20 sense motive.

@Gax I love it. I think that is what is so great about PBP is it gives more freedom for roleplay of your characters, because it adds narrative.

@Bullpup, cool. Will do.

Damphir cleric

This is kinda funny, normally we are all like "Hey! you are an adventurer? I am an adventurer, lets go have adventure!". But now we are "I DON'T TRUST ANYONE!".

Damphir cleric

dun DUN DUHN!

1 person marked this as a favorite.
Male Gully Dwarf Rogue

@Gax My guy is causing a gully dwarf amount of annoyance until rats are found or someone figures out that I have taken things. I think that the story is awesome at this point and that no one is taking too much.

Damphir cleric

Taking or talking?

Male Gully Dwarf Rogue

talking..................sorry
