Ah, so it does... I did not take those into account. Lamsfel's first attack will hit AC 16 and his second will hit AC 14, then.

True to Gan's word, the goblin between Marcelina and Tybus is indeed the first to fall, stabbed by the water witch and then evicerated by the sailor. Caltrops attack on Tybus - his AC is 13 against this attack: 1d20 ⇒ 11, damage 1.

At the other end of the table, Lamsfel strikes twice with his swords; whil the first wounds the goblin, it does not finish it. The second, however, does the job nicely.

Tristan's action still, then the goblins are up again.

Map link for the new page.

Lamsfel's intent was to get where he could do the most good with the movement he had. Since he only has a 5-ft step, he will move to intercept the one under the table. I'll adjust the map.

Male Varisian (human) Ranger 3

Tristan braves the broken glass in order to get in a swing. 5' step to L5, then cleave on G8 and G5.

Blessed greatsword attack on G8: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 162d6 + 6 ⇒ (1, 5) + 6 = 12. If it hits, blessed greatsword attack on G5:1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 102d6 + 6 ⇒ (6, 6) + 6 = 18.

My mistake. Misread your post.

Tristan Tarrascon wrote:

Blessed greatsword attack on G8: 1d20+6; 2d6+6. If it hits, blessed greatsword attack on G5:1d20+6; 2d6+6.

Caltrops attack on Tristan: 1d20 ⇒ 13, damage 1. Because of your Cleave penalty to AC, I think that hits. Your movement speed is reduced by half until you get treatment (magical healing in any amount or a DC 15 Heal check).

Tristan's greatsword mercilessly cuts down his first target, but the second one dodges out of the way.

That seems to cause some shift in the goblins' morale - shrieking in fear, the one that just dodged Tristan's blade turns and runs, as does its companion atop the table, who drops the rapidly-cooling glass to shatter on the ground next to the table as it goes. Withdraw action from G5, move and another square of caltrops from G6. The goblin under the table, seeing its allies beginning to run, reverses course, crawling back out from under the table and standing up, also looking as though he plans to run.

You guys.

Male Human Summoner (Synthesist) 1/ Paladin 2

Follow your friends into oblivion! Gan skirts around the table and seems to be overcome by his patron's power.

Gan will evil eye G4's AC, then move around the table. Then I'll shout in Tien.

Tien:
Ameiko! Tsuto! Where are you?

Male Human Bladebound Magus 3

Tybus grins, and winks at Marcelina as the goblins retreat. He moves around her and the table, sword crackling energy as he awaits G4's move, but sends a blast of frozen air at the goblin who had been on the table.

Ray of Frost ranged touch at G6 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20
Damage 1d3 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

Male Varisian (human) Ranger 3

Cursing, Tristan gingerly steps out of the broken glass (to M4) and drinks a potion of Cure Light Wounds, while keeping a wary eye at the retreating goblins.

Cure Light Wounds: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8

28/28 hp

Lamsfel moves around the table to I2, should have done what the DM suggested ;-) and attacks goblin facing Gan that is, G4.

Shortsword attack 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
Damage 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6

Gah! The matching attack and damage rolls return!

Marcelina gets to do her thing still. And she and Tybus might as well go ahead and give me an AoO roll as well while they're at it.

Male Human Bladebound Magus 3

AOO: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13
1d6 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6

Female Human (Varisian) Oracle (Waves): 1

AoO: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4

Marcelina takes a wild swipe at one of the fleeing goblins but her attention has shifted to the one crawling out from under the table. Seeing Lamsfel and Gan swing in behind him, she also pivots around the table edge, catching him between herself and the other two. With a grim face, she lashes out again with her spear, as much to drive the creature back into Lamsfel as to do any real damage.

Spear: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19
Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 7

Tybus' spell flash-freezes one of the retreating goblins, while Marcelina corners and stabs another. And prevents it from running, thus negating the AoOs that I had you roll for. ;) Oh well. Trying to find a way out, it slashes at her with one of its fists in desperation. Cestus attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9, damage 1d3 ⇒ 2.

The rest of the goblins continue to flee the room, diving through the open door at the far end.

28/28 hp

"Tristan! Tybus! Don't let them get away! They know where Ameiko is!"

I see G4 is still on the map, so Lamsfel will attack it with both swords.

Attack #1 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14 including flanking bonus
Damage #1 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3

Attack #2 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14 including flanking bonus
Damage #2 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7

If G4 is actually down, Lamsfel will make a double move to U2. If it falls (unlikely as that may be) with the first attack, he will use a move action to pursue the fleeing knee-biters, stopping in O2.

Hope that makes sense.

Lamsfel's first blow ends the threat of the goblin, and he rushes across the room after the other remnants of their group.

Male Human Bladebound Magus 3

Don't let them--! Doing me best, Mate, but they're already out the door!
Tybus will double move to the doors, to try to get an idea of where they're headed.

Male Varisian (human) Ranger 3

"Right there with you, mate!" Fully healed again, Tristan is oblivious to his personal safety in his zeal to catch the little freaks before they do more harm.

Double move after Lamsfel and Tybus.

The surviving goblins appear to be headed for the stairs leading toward the basement.

Male Human Bladebound Magus 3

They be going below decks! I'll call over my shoulder.

Male Human Summoner (Synthesist) 1/ Paladin 2

Gan will also double move over to the right.

Female Human (Varisian) Oracle (Waves): 1

Marcelina can't help a bit of surprise at actually connecting with the goblin but it is short lived as she sees Lamsfel finish it from behind and take off after the others. Turning, she too rushes across the room, glancing to each of her companions to see if her healing is needed before they rush into another fight.

Double move. Can I get a holler from anyone needing a heal? I have three more spells if it's needed, though obviously I'd rather save them for a tougher fight.

The goblins race down the stairs and temporarily out of sight.

28/28 hp

As expected...

Lamsfel continues to pursue his friends pursuing the goblins. A double move should get him to AA3, I believe.

Male Human Bladebound Magus 3

Make sure ye keep up! A 30-foot move should take him to the top of the stairs. If he can get off a ray of frost, he will, but otherwise, he'll hold up there waiting for the rest of the party catch up, rather than plunge into the depths too far ahead of his comrades.

Ray of Frost (if he's able) ranged touch 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23
Damage 1d3 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2

Awesome: Confirmation roll: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
1d3 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

Tybus can see the goblin he hit with the ray of frost before at the bottom of the stairs, where a couple of smaller corridors appear to head off into different directions, lit by lanterns along the walls. His blast scores it again, though not with the finality he might have hoped.

Female Human (Varisian) Oracle (Waves): 1

Marcelina hurries on to catch up with her companions, stopping where they do to re-group.

Male Human Summoner (Synthesist) 1/ Paladin 2

I don't quite understand the map, but I want to keep pace with everyone while keeping at least one of the melee guys in front of me, hehe.

28/28 hp

Assuming everyone keeps moving and waits at the top of the stairs, Lamsfel will be the last one to join them, I believe. Going with that assumption...

Lamsfel reaches the top of the stairs and looks to each of his companions. Whispering, "Is everyone ready to go down there? Did any of you see where the goblins went?" He waits for a response, "OK, let's go, then."

I'm thinking Lamsfel and Tristan in front since they really only have melee options at the moment with Tybus and his Ray of Frost in the second rank. The other spellcasters can follow Tybus or move alongside him, whatever makes them the most comfortable. Sound good?

Male Human Bladebound Magus 3

Tybus will point out the direction the last goblin straggler went, whether it was down the corridor or into one of the side passages.

And Lamsfel's marching order works for me.

The goblins turned left when they got to the bottom of the stairs. By the time everyone has regrouped at the top of the stairs, all of them have turned the corner and disappeared again.

New map. Also, as discussed on the discussion thread, I will be linking the new map on the Campaign Info page for easier access (see the tabs at the top of the page).

I'm going to try a map that changes as you start exploring places, so I'll be uploading new maps frequently. Make sure you use the Campaign Info link to get the current map. To begin with, I should explain that this map is rotated somewhat from the previous one (because the basement is at an angle to the general orientation of the above-ground building) - the stairs lead down to the corridor that begins at O6.

The basement is lit by oil lamps fixed to the walls, and appears to be mostly used for storage. There are crates and barrels along a long, narrow room, with a couple of wheelbarrows in the far corner. A brick wall has apparently been recently knocked down near the stairs to reveal an older, hidden passageway (the wall was at about L5) - it is down this passageway that the goblins have run. At the far end of the room, another hallway turns that same direction (the start of that hallway is at F5).

Male Human Bladebound Magus 3

If I recall, Tristan's armor had light cast on it.

Tristan, how about shining that light here in the back, in case any of the ankle-biters are hiding back here? Lamsfel, can ye keep an eye down that old passage? Make sure they don't double-back on us?

Tybus will do a quick sweep of the barrels and crates in case there's anything lurking amongst the storage. Perception: 1d20 ⇒ 18

Edit: Not sure how we're tracking movement within this new map, but if it's still by rounds, Tybus will double-move to where I've got him on the map. Feel free to back me up if I found something.

28/28 hp

My connection is giving me fits at the moment and I cannot bring up the map - I can barely get to the forums to see the link or post this. Move me where you need me.

Lamsfel nods at the sailor's suggestion, moving to peer into the darkness of the hallway with his elfsight, alert for any movement.

Swords in hand, readied action to strike any goblins that come in reach or show their misshapen heads.

EDIT: OK, my connection is letting me see GoogleDocs now. Lamsfel will move to L5.

Male Varisian (human) Ranger 3

"Should we really split up?" Tristan asks anxiously as he takes a stand behind Lamsfel. "If the goblins went this way, shouldn't we be following them?"

Just taking a peeksie. he says, peering around corner into the second passage. They be hurt and scared, but that don't stop them from being dangerous.

Female Human (Varisian) Oracle (Waves): 1

Marcelina takes up a position towards the middle, waiting for the others to decide which way they are heading.

28/28 hp

Lamsfel nods toward Tybus, whispering, "Go watch the sailor's back. If I see any, I'll sing out before I charge so you can get your share." He shares a grim smile over his shoulder before turning back to concentrate on the hallway before him.

Neither Lamsfel nor Tybus see any sign of the goblins down their respective passages. Where Tybus is looking, he sees two doors, both closed, and at the far end, another formerly-bricked-up passage that appears to have been recently opened. It turns back toward the stairway.

Map updated (be sure to check the Campaign Info page). Still waiting for Gan to place himself, however.

Sorry, I want to stay near marcelina and refresh the light spell. I'll keep my eyes open too. I have +4 perception but it's hard to use the roller from my phone.

Would someone like to place Gan for mbauers then, and possibly make a Perception check for him as well? And then you'll need to decide what you're doing next....

Male Human Bladebound Magus 3

I put Gan at a relatively safe spot. I'll go ahead and be the brave one and roll for Gan. Wish me luck: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22

Tybus will relay what he sees down the second passage. Do ye think they meet up?

"Yes, I do. Do you want to drive them around to me? Or should I drive them around to you?"

Whoa, I might need you to start rolling Asim's attack rolls in Red Redoubt, hehe.

How about you and Tristan go. I should be able to see his light around the corner 'afore long. If not, then I'll know my way be blocked off.

Male Varisian (human) Ranger 3

"I'm happy to go. I will be most effective in the midst of them anyway." Tristan is still looking grim, as he tries to shake the scene he witnessed above from his memory.

28/28 hp

"Gan, you and Marcelina back up Tybus, then. I will cover Tristan's back. The more time we give them, the better prepared the little runts will be."

Lamsful gestures 'after you' with a sword to the eager ranger and follows immediately behind as they move south(?) into the formerly hidden hall.

I took the liberty of moving Tristan and Lamsfel down the hall just shy of the corner where I suspect we will both make a Perception check. I also marked the doors because the border just doesn't jump out at me - we can kill the labels later if they are in the way. Hope that's cool.

Perception 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21

I need a Perception check from Tristan then as well.

And yes, it's fine about marking the doors. It's a GoogleDocs thing, apparently - I have them in a very thick border on my laptop, but I guess GD only has one border thickness, and that's what it gets converted to when I upload. Would be interested in hearing other suggestions to make the doors more obvious if people have any.

Male Varisian (human) Ranger 3

Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19

Female Human (Varisian) Oracle (Waves): 1

Marcelina gives Lamsfel a nod and moves up behind Tybus, following him down the corridor.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Stealth check: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18

A soft footstep gives Tristan and Lamsfel warning. A shape appears beyond the corner, a tall figure in light, easy-to-move-in clothes, a rakishly handsome face marred by a well-worn sneer. His ears are visibly pointed, though not nearly as much so as Lamsfel's, but his eyes have the same almond shape that Gan's and Ameiko's do. The resemblance between him and Ameiko is not strong, but it is definitely there.

He stands in a wide, ready stance, and it is immediately obvious that this man's fighting style was what the goblins upstairs were aping. While their antics were clownish, however, his posture is ready and dangerous-looking, and sparks of energy flicker around his fists as he moves to strike Tristan.

At the same time, Tybus sees two of the goblins the group fought earlier appear at the far end of the hallway. One still has Lamsfel's arrow sticking out of its back, and the other's skin still bears the frostburned scars of Tybus' magic. The one in the back has an arrow drawn and nocked, while the closer one is still waving its glass-covered fists around.

Tsuto's initiative: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12
Goblin initiatives: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11

Initiatives, everyone! And combat map has once again been updated.
