EldonG |
I'll go ahead and assume that Nia steps up the 5' to make the trip attack after Auric's charge. This technically happens before the patriarch's next move, which I just realized I forgot. :p
Just as the patriarch is bringing his club around for another attack, Nia's whip snakes out and wraps around his trailing leg - with a hard yank that momentarily threatens to bring Nia down - he is terribly strong - he suddenly loses his balance and goes sprawling.
Nia'Nikta |
Nia looked at the patriarch and stepped forward to get him just in range her whip striking out towards his feet.
AoO Trip: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16
"Don't drop your guard. This one is a wiley one but is still an Ogre. Remember what I said and use it to great effect." Maintaining bardic Performance.
+1 insight bonus to AC and on attack rolls and saving throws against exceptional, supernatural, and spell-like abilities used by Ogres as a Reminder
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24
"Watch out for that centipede that just crawled out of his armor. Kill it quick if you have a chance."
This is the next round action. Posting it incase i can't so I don't hold up progress.
She struck at the centipede with her whip mostly to see how the Ogre responded and to see if she could keep the little vermin from biting.
Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16
Dmg: 1d3 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5 By the way if it has natural armor of +3 or higher this will do no damage
Jun Korter |
Jun shrugs off the weeds to continue to move toward Nia's horse. And make it to the horse?
Str Check: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15
Reflex Save at End of round if not yet out of entangle: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19
Auric Lightmane |
I can't recall if charging grants +2 to hit for a round or only on the charge attack... i'll make the roll without it, but please add it in if it applies...
Still frustrated by his initial miss (and relieved that the patriarch's first brutal swing missed in return), Auric is thrilled at the opportunity to swing again as it tries to rise. Goldar, make my aim true this time!
AoO: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (18) + 13 = 31
for: 2d6 + 13 ⇒ (5, 4) + 13 = 22
and holy damage, if an outsider: 1d6 ⇒ 6
Auric Lightmane |
short version- in round 6, the following have yet to act:
Reiko (been assumed he's holding action until directed to attack once in range)
Alyra
Antonio
The Warrior (i believe he can make a new save as a full-round action)
Tania
Aya
Other Ogres
Sakuro
more details available through discussion
edit: i'd be glad to attack again, but please read the whole comment i'm about to put up in the discussion thread before we move on...
EldonG |
Won't: 1d20 ⇒ 18 If you only knew the odds...
The warrior sweats bullets, but can't move a hair.
From the trees come two arrows:
Attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20
Damage: 1d8 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13
Attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13
Damage: 1d8 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16
One hits, and sinks into his shoulder. The other narrowly misses Auric and buries halfway into the soil.
This hit doesn't change the situation with the patriarch, as he tries to get up. He does still live through Auric's AoO.
Reiko Arashi |
Reiko waits impatiently, rubbing his eyes furiously trying to bring back his vision.
Auric Lightmane |
This hit doesn't change the situation with the patriarch, as he tries to get up. He does still live through Auric's AoO.
So, does that mean that the charge still missed*, or did he take two greatsword hits and two arrows without staying down?
*please see my turn in the round 6 spoiler for more on that
EldonG |
The arrows were fired by Tania, who went after you, but before the patriarch. It didn't kill him, nor stop him from getting up, and he's not dead, even after the AoO
He does look seriously hurt, though, and almost collapses on one knee. He yells something in the giant tongue, and holds his hands out and open.
This happens unless somebody acts before him and stops it from happening.
Also, that's when the centipede attacks.
Antonio Nedraid |
Round 6_________________
Antonio darts through the entanglement and leaps over the barricade, racing for the gesturing enemy leader. Double Move
Reflex Save: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23
He frowned, seeing an adult ogre looking fearful and without a log in his hands was disconcerting.
"HEY!" He shouted to everyone in general. "Can anyone speak giantish? Is this guy trying to parlay?"
He will cautiously stay out of reach as he circles around behind the creature.
Sakuro, Obsessed Arcanist |
Not having much better to do - and still quite lost in the whirl of battle - Sakuro moved forward using Dimension Slide, if necessary, for another 20 feet and readied a Flare spell. Hopefully, having that go off right in the presumably-evil ogre's face would disrupt anything he tried to do.
Ready Action: Cast Flare (DC 15, Fort Negates) upon suspicious action or being prompted by someone else to go ahead and release it.
Bad-Luck Baldek |
"Ahahah! Nobody said it was a "Greased Ogre Festival"!! That changes EVERYTHING!!!" shouts Baldek as he rushes forward to strike at the prone ogres.
As he moves closer to the threat, he feels an incredible rush wash over him; a mix of profound fear and thrill. He feels possessed by some spirit of the past, and every muscle of his body is jolted and loosened as he flips the axe with both hands.
Stopping short of the grease, he lifts his axe high above his head and lets it crash down with a fierce shout: "Yaaaaaaaargh!"
Not sure what kind of axe I have. Please adjust as needed.
[dice=Axe, charging, PA vs prone]1d20+6+2; 1d12+10Charging AC is 12...
[dice=AoO if one gets up]1d20+6; 1d12+10
Bladek is raging and certainly not meaning to let them escape. He had declared an AoO already if one of the two stood up.
Baldek runs after the fleeing ogres, trying to slay as many as he can with his axe, but they quickly outrun him.
When (if) he realizes he's the only one running after them, he'll slid to a stop, take a moment to look around and confirm the situation, then start running back to the village!
Sakuro, Obsessed Arcanist |
Sakuro pointed at the centipede and snapped her fingers, conjuring up a burst of brilliant light just in front of its face. That ought to make it less of a problem for a bit.
Case: Flare, DC 15 Fort Negates.
As for the man who was hurt... what did she look like, a healer? Others were much better, and she'd only get in the way - best to leave it to them and focus on doing what she was good at.
Auric Lightmane |
Did the Patriarch go down after that first force missile (last round)?
charge: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (11) + 11 = 22
for: 2d6 + 12 ⇒ (5, 4) + 12 = 21
attack Patriarch: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (5) + 13 = 18
for: 2d6 + 13 ⇒ (4, 6) + 13 = 23
This wretched tome truly is working against me... Goldar, protect me from its evil so I may deal with this more present threat.
this spoiler only applies if the Patriarch was still up, it's the translation of what Auric said in dwarven...
EldonG |
Both Auric and Baldek find that the thick armor turns their blows - in Baldek's case, the ogre keeps moving away - and the patriarch attempts to follow suit, running directly away rather than surrender.
An arrow arcs from the trees, even as he starts moving.
Attack: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (11) + 9 = 20
Damage: 1d8 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10
The arrow also deflects, as the wily patriarch zigs and zags.
Damn!
Jun Korter |
If Jun is within 30' of with Auric or Baldek or at the worst the archer, he will using an immediate action to use his revelation to twist fate and force them to re-roll the d20 for their attack. Baldek first choice, Auric second choice, archer last
EldonG |
You'd be closest to Auric, at this point, with one round on the horse.
That's a reroll for Auric, then.
You would have just gotten to the horse, and made a double move along the road, I'm assuming.
Reiko Arashi |
Reiko, frustrated by not being able to see, attempts to follow after Sakuro.
What in the nine hells is going on?! he snarls as his way is made difficult by the terrain.
Sakuro, Obsessed Arcanist |
"We've mostly stopped the attack, I think - just wrapping things up." she said, grabbing Reiko's hand so she could guide him across the terrain. Helping others was also an important thing to do, wasn't it?
Auric Lightmane |
attack reroll: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (16) + 13 = 29
damage was 23... And if he's still alive after that I think he provokes when he tries to run, right?
thanks Jun!
Jun Korter |
Jun will make for the man to see if he can save him. When within 30' he will channel ruling out up to 4 enemies, patriarch first. If there are too many around him that may benefit from the channel he will instead cast stabilize, also a range of 30' He may be already dead, but Jun doesn't want to lose anyone if he can help it and needs to try to save him
Sheriff Perton |
Ok, rewind in time - Auric does hit, and the sword sinks in deep. The patriarch wavers, then collapses ponderously.
He's not breathing. Nobody really knows that he came just that close to getting away - except for Jun.
Speaking of Jun - the moment he comes around, Manton and the sheriff are about to give up, Miriam is running to the scene, crying her eyes out - and suddenly the man starts breathing easier. The sheriff, feeling the crushed shoulder starting to heal, looks up at Jun, holding out his holy symbol, and his jaw drops.
Just in time, son. I thought he was a goner.
Miriam almost drags Jun out of the saddle, trying to hug him.
Now, only the centipede is an issue.
Jun Korter |
As Jun gallops towards the fallen man to save him, Jun sees two version of events happen at once. First, the ogre patriarch gets away at the last moment and months later comes back again killing so many of the people he had come to know in this town. The second, a sword connects at the last moment taking out the ogre leader and stunting the threat of the ogre pack for years to come. Both of those swim in his vision before one falls away almost causing Jun to fall out of the saddle.
Not until later he realizes that no one else knew the how close it had really been to a short term victory today versus the chance for peace long term.
Antonio Nedraid |
"Alright Auric! You got him son!" Called out Antonio. For a moment, he thought he saw something else... But he shook his head. Probably nothing.
He looked around for any fights he could help with.
Is the centipede a summoned ally or an enemy?
If none, he will run after the bunch that he saw heading towards the docks earlier.
Antonio Nedraid |
It attacked Nia earlier, so it's an enemy.
Round 7_______________________________
Not really sure if the centipede is feintable, Antonio tries it anyway, flapping his cape at it.
Feint (Bluff vs Sense Motive): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16
If successful, my attack is vs FF AC.
Dueling sword attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13 for a possible 1d8 + 2 + 1d6 ⇒ (4) + 2 + (6) = 12 piercing and precision damage.
Auric Lightmane |
As Auric brings his sword around a scenario quickly plays out in his mind... A miss... A feeling of powerlessness against the dark grimoire's influence... An escape that will surely lead to trouble down the road...
He snaps back to reality as the sword buries itself deep in the Patriarch's gut, spilling a pile of stinking entrails.
Goldar be praised! Perhaps carrying this tome is even more dangerous than I realized if it can cause such doubts to creep into my mind...
"Help Nia, there's some manner of large centipede going after her!" he announces to all those nearby.
