I'll go ahead and assume that Nia steps up the 5' to make the trip attack after Auric's charge. This technically happens before the patriarch's next move, which I just realized I forgot. :p

Just as the patriarch is bringing his club around for another attack, Nia's whip snakes out and wraps around his trailing leg - with a hard yank that momentarily threatens to bring Nia down - he is terribly strong - he suddenly loses his balance and goes sprawling.

Auric and Nia, Perception, dc 12:
Something skittered out of the patriarch's armor when he fell.

If that roll is 18+:
It's a centipede, bigger than any centipede has a right to be. It's amazing that it fit under his armor. The not so little beast looks evil, mandibles glistening poisonously

Ok, so on his turn, the Patriarch is scrambling to his feet, drawing AoOs from Auric and Nia, and starting to realize that he could be in a good bit of trouble.

Once this is resolved, I'll move on to the next round.

HP 17/28 AC15 Nia'Nikta

Nia looked at the patriarch and stepped forward to get him just in range her whip striking out towards his feet.

AoO Trip: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16

Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24

This is the next round action. Posting it incase i can't so I don't hold up progress.
She struck at the centipede with her whip mostly to see how the Ogre responded and to see if she could keep the little vermin from biting.

Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16
Dmg: 1d3 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5 By the way if it has natural armor of +3 or higher this will do no damage

Jun shrugs off the weeds to continue to move toward Nia's horse. And make it to the horse?

Str Check: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15

Reflex Save at End of round if not yet out of entangle: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19

Jun does finally make it out of the entangle, but has a distance to go to get to the horse. It's a small, but meaningful triumph.

Still frustrated by his initial miss (and relieved that the patriarch's first brutal swing missed in return), Auric is thrilled at the opportunity to swing again as it tries to rise. Goldar, make my aim true this time!

AoO: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (18) + 13 = 31

and holy damage, if an outsider: 1d6 ⇒ 6

Liberty's Edge

Goldar listens, as the sword slices deep into the patriarch's chest, blood spraying everywhere.

He's severely injured, but not dead. He bellows in pain.

Liberty's Edge

The centipede hisses annoyance at Nia, and scurries forward to bite at her:

Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18
Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5

Nia can make an AoO, but the whip only seemed to make it angry.

If it hits, Fort save please.

Liberty's Edge

Ok, I got myself confused on the initiative. Its a good morning today, but the last couple of days have been a bit crazy. I may have gotten ahead of myself with the patriarch rising. Auric should have an attack with him down, and an AoO as he gets up. Who has it figured out?

Reiko (been assumed he's holding action until directed to attack once in range)
Alyra
Antonio
The Warrior (i believe he can make a new save as a full-round action)
Tania
Aya
Other Ogres
Sakuro
more details available through discussion

edit: i'd be glad to attack again, but please read the whole comment i'm about to put up in the discussion thread before we move on...

Liberty's Edge

Auric, yours was an AoO, so you have the normal attack. Alyra delays - you're up, and the patriarch is on his back still.

Liberty's Edge

Won't: 1d20 ⇒ 18 If you only knew the odds...

The warrior sweats bullets, but can't move a hair.

From the trees come two arrows:

Attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20
Damage: 1d8 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13
Attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13
Damage: 1d8 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16

One hits, and sinks into his shoulder. The other narrowly misses Auric and buries halfway into the soil.

This hit doesn't change the situation with the patriarch, as he tries to get up. He does still live through Auric's AoO.

Female Elf Wizard

How far is Aya from the patriarch?

Liberty's Edge

Aya, in the woods, is about 80' from the patriarch at this point. He's roughly 20' in front of the barricades.

*please see my turn in the round 6 spoiler for more on that

Liberty's Edge

The arrows were fired by Tania, who went after you, but before the patriarch. It didn't kill him, nor stop him from getting up, and he's not dead, even after the AoO

He does look seriously hurt, though, and almost collapses on one knee. He yells something in the giant tongue, and holds his hands out and open.

Giantish:
I surrender! Don't kill! Flee, my children, flee!

Sense Motive dc 15:
He fears for his life, plain and simple.

This happens unless somebody acts before him and stops it from happening.

Also, that's when the centipede attacks.

I do. It's hard to hear, up here, but I think he's giving up. I wouldn't trust him.

Not having much better to do - and still quite lost in the whirl of battle - Sakuro moved forward using Dimension Slide, if necessary, for another 20 feet and readied a Flare spell. Hopefully, having that go off right in the presumably-evil ogre's face would disrupt anything he tried to do.

Ready Action: Cast Flare (DC 15, Fort Negates) upon suspicious action or being prompted by someone else to go ahead and release it.

Liberty's Edge

All around, you see ogres breaking off combat. One stays locked in melee with Drokar, who seems rather happy about it.

We got a man down!

The sheriff's voice rings out strong. Only one means an incredibly successful defense - still, a man dying is never good.

Liberty's Edge

The centipede still looks angry, as well.

There are decisions to be made - and once the details are taken care of, welcome to third level, and congratulations!

Those decisions HAVE to be made first...details, details!

As he moves closer to the threat, he feels an incredible rush wash over him; a mix of profound fear and thrill. He feels possessed by some spirit of the past, and every muscle of his body is jolted and loosened as he flips the axe with both hands.

Bladek is raging and certainly not meaning to let them escape. He had declared an AoO already if one of the two stood up.

Baldek runs after the fleeing ogres, trying to slay as many as he can with his axe, but they quickly outrun him.

When (if) he realizes he's the only one running after them, he'll slid to a stop, take a moment to look around and confirm the situation, then start running back to the village!

Sakuro pointed at the centipede and snapped her fingers, conjuring up a burst of brilliant light just in front of its face. That ought to make it less of a problem for a bit.

Case: Flare, DC 15 Fort Negates.

As for the man who was hurt... what did she look like, a healer? Others were much better, and she'd only get in the way - best to leave it to them and focus on doing what she was good at.

Liberty's Edge

Baldek can take the AoO on one - the other is out of reach. That one probably won't get away. ;)

Go ahead and make a charge attack - it takes off at double speed.

Female Elf Wizard

If Aya has a target, she unleashes another force missile. Damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2

Did the Patriarch go down after that first force missile (last round)?

If so:
Auric rushes to Nia's defense, bringing his greatsword down hard at the attacking centipede.

charge: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (11) + 11 = 22
for: 2d6 + 12 ⇒ (5, 4) + 12 = 21

If not:
Auric steps forward without hesitation. "Your evil is beyond redemption, and too dangerous to continue..." he says as he moves, and raising his greatsword to strike he adds "Вы признаны виновным . Теперь вы будете стоять перед каменной дозорных на суд ."

attack Patriarch: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (5) + 13 = 18
for: 2d6 + 13 ⇒ (4, 6) + 13 = 23

This wretched tome truly is working against me... Goldar, protect me from its evil so I may deal with this more present threat.

this spoiler only applies if the Patriarch was still up, it's the translation of what Auric said in dwarven...

Dwarven:
"You are found guilty. Now you will stand before the stone sentinel for judgement."

Axe, charging, PA: 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 6 + 2 = 121d12 + 10 ⇒ (5) + 10 = 15

When he returns, Baldek slows down, wondering how Auric knows about his past and what he intends to do about it. His hand goes to his scarred throat reflexively.

How does he know?!

Liberty's Edge

Both Auric and Baldek find that the thick armor turns their blows - in Baldek's case, the ogre keeps moving away - and the patriarch attempts to follow suit, running directly away rather than surrender.

An arrow arcs from the trees, even as he starts moving.

Attack: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (11) + 9 = 20
Damage: 1d8 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10

The arrow also deflects, as the wily patriarch zigs and zags.

Damn!

Alyra quickly loads her sling, looks at the ground, then whips the stone intake the air.

Attack: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (13) + 11 = 24
Damage: 1d4 ⇒ 2

The stone strikes true, but isn't enough.

Ok, rewind in time - Auric does hit, and the sword sinks in deep. The patriarch wavers, then collapses ponderously.

He's not breathing. Nobody really knows that he came just that close to getting away - except for Jun.

Speaking of Jun - the moment he comes around, Manton and the sheriff are about to give up, Miriam is running to the scene, crying her eyes out - and suddenly the man starts breathing easier. The sheriff, feeling the crushed shoulder starting to heal, looks up at Jun, holding out his holy symbol, and his jaw drops.

Just in time, son. I thought he was a goner.

Miriam almost drags Jun out of the saddle, trying to hug him.

Now, only the centipede is an issue.

As Jun gallops towards the fallen man to save him, Jun sees two version of events happen at once. First, the ogre patriarch gets away at the last moment and months later comes back again killing so many of the people he had come to know in this town. The second, a sword connects at the last moment taking out the ogre leader and stunting the threat of the ogre pack for years to come. Both of those swim in his vision before one falls away almost causing Jun to fall out of the saddle.

Not until later he realizes that no one else knew the how close it had really been to a short term victory today versus the chance for peace long term.
