Shards of the Titanswar

Game Master EldonG

The ruined monastery is exactly one of those places parents warn their children about. I wonder why...

Baldek grumbles and remains outside for now, defiant.

Tania and Alyra follow.

The rest of you came up for a reason, right?

Tania's voice trails behind her. Alyra shrugs sympathetically.

"Waiting here will only result in you being in an uncomfortable position if any ogres are trying to leave this way," Auric points out, "let's stay with the group- it will be solely up to you which, if any, ogres you engage in combat..."

With that he turns and quickly follows the others into the cave.

Female Elf Wizard

Aya walks carefully and tries to be observant. 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8

HP 17/28 AC15 Nia'Nikta

Nia'Nikta looked at Tania. "Hero's, are always like this in the stories at one time or other. Sorry you are enduring this now with them. Your goal will be completed in one fashion or another."

She nodded to her as she stepped in bringing the light further in as she looked for trouble.

Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9

But the arguments about the ogres being innocent or not distracted her.

"All right, I'll come along." says Baldek as he reluctantly moves in the cavern.

Sakuro followed the others inside, staying towards the rear but trying to be close enough to cast various spells if they were suddenly needed. Grease, in particular, was proving to be quite a helpful option... big ogres, slippery floors, allies to pound on them when they went down... good stuff. Also, magic in general was something she just outright adored. "Sneaking, sneaking..."

Liberty's Edge

Just as you're getting to where it opens up, visible at the edge of elven vision are two eyes reflecting what dim light there is. With a snarl, a wolf the size of a pony becomes more visible in the shadows - stalking your way. It appears quite angry.

Initiative, please.

Aya mentions the large wolf for anyone who has not seen it.

Auric weighs the implications of age and innocence and the potential for greater evil... the moral quandary leaves him slow to react to this new threat...

I don't know how anyone else feels, but I'm a big fan of the GM rolling initiative for everyone in the first combat post- it streamlines things a ton because we don't have a whole day of just waiting to determine the initiative order...

"A wolf's a wolf... And they don't need one. But they won't be happy for it." says Baldek with a shrug as he prepares to engage the wolf.

Tania raises her bow, but holds her action, looking around for ogres. She's having a little trouble seeing.

Take it down quickly!

Sakuro snapped out with a Ray of Frost... but in her haste, the ray just shot up and hit the ceiling instead of going anywhere even remotely close to the target. She cursed under her breath... but at least the others seemed to have things well in hand, and were steadily chopping away at it.

Reiko's sword finds its mark, and the huge wolf collapses - slowly, as if not understanding its fate.

HP 17/28 AC15 Nia'Nikta

Nia stares at the creature and would step forward touching it after sheathing her sword stabalizing it. "If I can stabalize it I should. It doesn't need to die." She would look beyond it as he picks up her whip and would move beyond it.

Liberty's Edge

As Nia's light creeps across the cavern, forms become visible in the back, rising up, curious about the noise and light.

Pups. A few of them, already the size of a house dog, but with eyes barely open.

Liberty's Edge

Three large tunnels exit the room - two in a 'Y' intersection to the left, and one to the right, right where it opens up.

HP 17/28 AC15 Nia'Nikta

Nia'Nikta gasps.

"Well, she was protecting her pups. I'll be damned. When we are done here I'll heal her. No one kill her." She would look at the pups and her heart melts.

"Tania, do you know if ogre's had wolves as pets?"

Liberty's Edge

I never realized it. There are wolves around - not so many this size - I have no clue how I missed it. Likely, the patriarch had something to do with it. He wasn't normal, for an ogre.

Tania looks the pups over.

Dire wolves. They're dire wolves.

HP 17/28 AC15 Nia'Nikta

Nia'Nikta looked like a little kid that had just found the best thing in the world. "Umm,....is it bad I wanna keep them." She admits sheepishly. "I stabilized the mother so we should be able to heal her afterwords so she can take care of them."

Dire wolves. They can be extremely loyal companions when treated well and shown respect. These are the perfect age to raise as well, had we killed the mother. Good catch saving her Nia.

He looks at the pups once more, a small smile creeping onto his face.
Even in a place like this, innocence and family can be found. Perhaps one day I'll find something like that here....

After a glance at the mother to make sure she's stabilized, he follows Antonio, keeping a far enough distance back as to not interfere with his stealthy movement.

Aasimar, Bardadin 7 | HP 92/92 | AC 27 (t20, ff18) | CMD 27 | F +12; R +17; W +12 | perception (darkvision) +13, sense motive +17, initiative +10 | active effects: --

Amazing they can have so much sympathy for dire wolf cubs who were nearly orphaned but be so eager to slaughter orphaned ogrelings... Auric reflects as the events unfold around him. He continues to ponder it as he moves with Reiko to follow Antonio.

Female Human Arcanist 4/Arch. 1 | HP: 35/35 | AC: 13, T: 13, FF: 10 | Fort: +3, Ref: +4, Will: +6 | BAB: +2, CMB: +4, CMD: 17 | Init: +9, Perception: +6 |

For the first time in her life, Sakuro regretted that she'd never learned to deal with animals. Those puppies were far too cute, dangit! She glanced towards Auric a moment later, but he didn't seem inclined to kill the canines, and so she just turned back to them. "Um, I think I have some food in here..." she said, digging through her bags. "Is feeding them okay?"

HP 17/28 AC15 Nia'Nikta

Know:Nature: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (14) + 9 = 23

"I believe they are still drinking her milk. So feeding them would be bad." She said trying to dredge up what she knew of Dire Wolves.

'This world is strange indeed to see such noble creatures here. Then again many would want them killed or destroyed.' She looks at the others and lets them lead before turning to the mother and looking to see if there was any magical Aura's on her to denote magical influences.

Nia didn't join into the conversations about whether to kill or not kill them ^.^

Liberty's Edge

Tania calls her own wolf to her side.

Even normal wolves can be quite a responsibility. Dire wolves would be quite a handful. I hear even normal wolf pups can fetch a handful of gold, though.

Baldek wipes the blood and gore off his axe and looks at the two passages, listening for signs of life.

Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12

Liberty's Edge

As Baldek goes to clean the axe, he gets a shock.

There's no blood on it.

Sakuro nodded, taking Nia's advice on this subject and not bothering to ruffle through her bag any further. "I don't really know about raising animals anyway... but they'd be nice to sleep against during long trips..." Giant, furry canine friends, nice to her own friends and just a bit scary to everyone else... yeah, she liked that thought. Maybe she'd study a bit of animal handling if the opportunity presented itself.
