I think we can always assume players can buy stuff at sale price. I would suggest we use the 10% higher figure, since that is what we would be selling it for otherwise we'll need to revise a lot of math.
I thought 50gp per ear was a tad crazy, still a great haul.

Evening guys!
Just want to give you a heads up that my posting will be limited from this wednesday to the next wednesday. My wife and I are going to be in Hawaii for our anniversary. I'll try to post, but don't hesitate to DMPC me if I can't respond. I will be following along, but whatever I do post will be succinct. Thanks!

Thandion |
Sorry I've been slow on replying been getting ready to head off for Christmas. Will have phone and reception but please GM Thandion if a fight starts and I haven't responded I don't want to hold people up. I'll have computer at the in laws early Jan and back home mid Jan.

I'm a bit uncomfortable with not knowing what is being rolled to hit, I'm not sure what the point of not using the dice roller for that would be, and I we don't know what AC is being hit incase there is a mistake, etc. Did this guy just crit for example? Or roll max damage to do 13 damage to AC 20? It would help if we could get the ac hit and damage, just so we can ensure there's nothing being missed, etc.
The Voice of Wisdom |
The point of not using a dice roller is that there will be fights with lots of enemies, and having to type out all of them in the dice roller makes combat posts even more prohibitive than they already are. I understand the concern, but really, this is one area that I have found makes a huge difference running combats in a pbp, to me at least; I've tried using the dice roller here for the enemy, and it slows down my ability to respond quickly dramatically. If you know a quick way to handle such things that I have not discovered that still uses an electronic dice roller, please let me know, and I will adjust accordingly, but I've found in my experiences so far that the benefits of using the dice roller don't justify it's use for npcs. Until then, I am willing to accept that the occasional corner case will come up that doesn't quite work with the usual method; it's worth dealing with in the long run rather getting too stuck on the results of an individual encounter. I am happy to address any concerns you may have as best as I can however, and yes, the sinspawn critted, and rolled really well on his damage dice to boot.
Pavro Deverin |
I'm not too bothered about the dice rolls, but just to prevent misunderstandings hit AC x for x damage would be nice since it lets everyone keep track better. When buffs become more common, for example, its easy for a DM to forget if one is up. No biggy though, I'm just a whiney little SOB when my characters get hurt, lol. Aressa's not allowed to die until I'm 3rd level and have augment summoning!
Severus Aldenhyne |
It stands there, watching you and the hallway to the south at the same time, clearly concerned about defending it.
"Eww, a disgusting monster." Kapow! Twang! Zhoom! Thwack! Slice!
It stands there, a strange look in his eyes as he watches the party from his full defensive stance, determined to block the hallway.
"Destroy the creature! It is evil incarnate!"
Something ain't meshing up here... lol. :P
Pavro Deverin |
True, but if it does not seem inclined to talk we have little choice but to kill it and be wary of whatever enchantment its under right? I agree there is something funny going on, but I do think killing the weird mutant goblin with a magic sword is probably a good idea - and I plan on being rather suspicious of said sword to!
Severus Aldenhyne |
No one tried to talk to it, that was my point. It was standing there, looking at us, and the next thing I know we've started WWII. It's all good though. I just thought it was a little humorous.
Avian Fletcher |
Under normal circumstances, Avian might be willing to give diplomacy a shot, or at least hold his pistol until Severus had a chance to talk. He has lumped everything in these tunnels in the same "affront against nature and the gods" category, and until now, has generally had good reason to. However, like I said, he's itching with angry energy after his spat with Marcoul, and that is enough to overcome any hesitancy he might have had at first to shoot before consulting the group. :)

Found loot since the start of the glassworks:
1198.25 for merc and goblin gear + 560 for the ears (28*20) + 600 from Tsuto's stash= 2358gp
masterwork ranseur= 400gp
scroll of flaming sphere (CL 5)= 250gp
+1 longsword = 2315gp
small masterwork handaxe = 306gp
small masterwork silver dagger = 322gp
Total= 5951gp, or 991gp per person if we could get total value for everything (unlikely), or with Pavro assisting in the liquidation the total would change to:
1198.25 for merc and goblin gear + 560 for the ears (28*20) + 600 from Tsuto's stash= 2358gp
masterwork ranseur (work of art, so full value)= 400gp
scroll of flaming sphere (CL 5)= 250gp @60%= 150gp
+1 longsword = 2315gp @60% = 1389gp
small masterwork handaxe = 306 gp @60%= 183gp
small masterwork silver dagger = 322 gp @60% = 192gp
Total = 4671gp (775.5 gp per person)
Marcoul Antonius Jeggare |
The total cost for buying the merc's gear from your split would 848gp, so you would be short 73gp. That would get you the following:
3 masterwork leather armor, 1 set of studded leather armor, 4 leather armor, 3 light wooden shields, 1 light steel shield, 2 bucklers
2 longbows, 1 shortbow, 60 arrows, 4 light crossbows, 80 bolts
1 masterwork longsword, 1 longspear, 2 shortswords, 6 longswords, 8 daggers
Since this is OOC and all, are you sure you want to do this? Your character already picked through looking for any personal items in there. This is just armor and weapons from hired merc with no family in Sandpoint.
Thandion |
Thandion thinks it is the right thing to do. That armour and weapons might mean a lot to their families and we didn't see them do anything wrong. Selling that stuff is to him far too close to stealing but given Marcoul and Pavro's objections to bringing people back for justice he figures it isn't worth starting another argument over. He'll only keep the stuff for a couple of months and any that isn't claimed by then he'll sell (or ask Pavro to do so) thus getting back the money on that part.
Avian Fletcher |
None of the family members will come asking for the equipment: they will assume that whatever army or mercenary corps the lost soldier was in will have kept the things to equip other soldiers with. It will not occur to them anyone would be willing to give it back unless they are told. Thandion would know this, and the only way to give the equipment back to their rightful owners is to seek them out, a quest in itself if the mercs came from outside of Sandpoint, and any equipment or money you might bring them might be a painful reminder to their families of who they lost and do more harm than good.
If Thandion would still do that, then by all means, but first realize that the issue is not as simple as "This sword was X's, therefore the right thing to do is to give sword back to Mrs. X back home." It may be more merciful, in the end, for you to keep the sword (or sell it) to equip yourself to fight those who killed X in the first place. Also consider that the soldiers fought to defend Sandpoint, and by equipping yourself with money from their equipment, you are carrying on their mission. Would Thandion really begrudge us if he died and we kept his stuff to help with the mission rather than returning it to his family?
Maybe selling their equipment and setting up a fund to care for widowed families would be the more benevolent thing to do, rather than making sure each sword ends up in the family it came from.
Avian himself falls squarely in the "I can keep this stuff because I'm not using it for personal gain, but equipping myself to defend the town, you know, exactly like those who died did" camp, but if Thandion refused that option, he would urge him to at least go the "Tunnel Widows Fund" route.
TL;DR: Making sure each item gets back to the family of its original owner is probably the least kind and most risky way of making sure the bereaved get their rights.
The Voice of Wisdom |
Just to make this simple, most of the families of the mercs probably don't even know anything about the recent activities of any of them. These were eternal drifters that Lonjiku found in port, and the equipment is clearly the kind that drifts along with such people. The chances that any of it meant anything to any of the men or their families is virtually nonexistent.

New update to found loot:
tiny +1 cold iron returning dagger: (Full value is 10,304) @60%: 6182.4
tiara: 50 gp (Artwork - Full Value)
twisted iron wand with a forked tip. (Unknown)
+ Previous total of 4671gp (775.5 gp per person) brings the new total to:
1817.23 gp per person.
Avian Fletcher |
We may want to keep the dagger as a group item to overcome DR in the future.
EDIT: maybe not a Tiny one. Does this mean it is a tiny item (sized for a small wielder) or actually sized for a tiny creature?

Good Evening All,
Just want to let you all know that I have opened recruitment for my first PbP as a GM: Hearts of Darkness: Way of the Wicked. I welcome all of you to come and apply!
-Marcoul
P.S. I'm trying to keep the villainy to PG-13 style, as well as focusing on character growth and plot development.
Pavro Deverin |
Oh! Are you John, Marcoul! I'm Beshra. I'm mulling over an app.
As for the Wand, well it seems nice, but it really isn't very useful. It requires a standard action and a swift action to use and only lasts one round. I really cannot see a situation when Pavro would use it, if he is hurt he's going to want to get out of dodge and not take hp from Aressa, if Aressa is hurt he can transfer hp to her for free when she is in danger of going down. I can see the spell being mildly useful as a spell known once you can have it up for an entire combat, but even then it seems like a trap as by the time its useful you'll have better things to do with your swift actions.
A standard action and a swift action to transfer 1d6 hp doesn't seem worth it.
I appreciate the Summoner loot drop though VOW! Nice to know you are looking out for us :)

VoW I have a couple of questions. Now that we are back in town and I am assuming that we have sold off our spoils, I would be interested in buying some magical items if they are available. Specifically I'm looking for a Darkwood Shield (257 gold), Cloak of Resistance +1 (1,000 gold) and perhaps a Chainshirt +1 (1,250 gold) I was also planning to use a little down time to craft a scroll tonight. In addition, I was wondering how close to level 3 we are?
The Voice of Wisdom |
As for magic item availability, after some thought and reviewing, some modifications to what I had determined before.
1st level potions, scrolls and wands are easy enough to acquire for the vast majority of spells (If you want a spell from an oddball source, it will be harder to find) and don't require a roll. Likewise, it is pretty simple to find masterwork armor and weapons for the common armor and weapons. Upgrading existing items is also generally easy enough, up to +2 at least, simply pay the difference in price, and wait a number of days; it takes a day for every 1k being paid.
Everything else has a percentage chance of being around at the time. 75% for up to ~2k, 50% for 2k-4k, 20% for 4k-8k, 5% for 8k-16k. Anything beyond that gets sent to Magnimar and is not kept in town. For weapons and armor, add 10%; for other common magical items (i.e. things that tend to pop up in pretty much every single campaign ever played), add 5%; for darkwood items, add 5%; alchemical silver, mithral, no change; for cold iron, subtract 10%
You can also commission/order specific items and have them made/shipped in; how much game time that takes is item and campaign dependent; i.e. talk to me if you want that option, I'll figure out what it would require in terms of time and money, though it will probably be along the lines of times for upgrading. You'll find I generally don't mind giving access to the lower level magic stuff, but the higher end stuff is going to take more effort.
