Auric Ironwright |

"Huh? Fireworks? Th' festivals over, though...",mumbles a punch-drunk Auric as he pulls another throwing axe from his belt.
It doesn't say there's a penalty for using a throwing axe in melée so I'm gonna go for it- swinging at the human zombie that will theoretically move from I3.
Throwing axe (melée): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 81d6 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10

William Varrus |

William yells to Gendo, "I doubt you'll have much luck setting one alight with your flint and steel but if you have some explosives stashed away, now would be the time."
Jon, forget to replenish after we camped last night?
EDIT : Looking back on the thread, Auric has the cure light wounds we traded Amara for and Gendo carries the two we got from the necromancer girl.

Auric Ironwright |

Thanks for setting that straight! Okay, assuming I survive the zombie's charge since I'm fifteen feet from him, I will change my action to a five foot step back from the zombie then chug the potion like Auric is pledging at paladin fraternity.
Cure light wounds potion: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9

Initiative Order:

Round 3:
Gendo continues to furiously attack the zombie in front of him. He catches the zombie in the chest with a roundhouse punch that knocks the zombie completely off its feet. Crit Card effect: "Crumpling Blow" x2 damage and target knocked prone.
William continues to inspire the group. He fires his bow again but the arrow fails to connect.
The zombie Gendo felled lumbers back to its feet, allowing Gendo an attack of opportunity. Attack:1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13 However, the impact is absorbed by its armor, and it rises to face the monk once again.
The next zombie charges Auric, who manages to raise his shield and block the powerful but clumsy blow.
There's a sorry sack o' dice rolls...nothing above an 8.
For the time being, the remaining zombies still immobilized by Jon's spell continue to struggle in vain against the grasping plants; they remain where they are.
The one who broke free last round struggles forward towards the group. However, since it mindlessly moves directly toward the party, its path continues through the grasping plants, slowing its movement and keeping it at a distance.
Auric backs up from his attacker and downs the potion, feeling immediate relief from the pain of his wounds.
Jon moves on Gendo's opponent, hacking with his sickle but finding his blade turned by the studded leather.

William Varrus |

As Auric falls back to recover, William charges into the gap, slashing at the zombie with all his might.
Charge to attack the zombie at F4, he should be able to avoid passing through Auric's square on the way there. Continue inspire courage
Dagger : 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25
Damage : 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Crit Confirmation : 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16
Damage : 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Emboldened by his success, he cries out, "Come on lads, lets send these abominations back to the grave!"

Gendo |

My face hardens in concerna t seeing the zombie return to its feet.
"Stay down!!!" I yell, my voice filled with some of the anger that William glimpsed when we set out. I unload a front kick to the Zombie's midsection, then pivot slightly as I turn and snap a high sidekick to the Zombie's upper torso. Flurry of kicks anyone?
First Attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15
Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Second Attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20
Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6

Shadowborn |

Round 4:
Gendo snaps off two kicks, the first thudding into the thing's solar plexus without result, but the second gives some satisfaction as he clearly hears the sound of snapping bone, probably a rib or two.
William rushes the zombie, leaping into the air and bringing his dagger around in a high arc. Catching it in the neck, he manages to sever the head; it lolls backwards, hanging by a strip of flesh as the zombie falls to the ground. Crit Card: Decapitation! x2 damage and target dies.
Three of the six zombies within then entanglement successfully tear themselves loose of from the grasping vegetation this round. However, the dwarf zombie that was inexorably dragging its way toward the group is once again ensnared. The one in combat flails an arm at Gendo, catching him in the ribs with the force of a hammer blow. 7hp damage.
Auric, his target now dropped, steps to the zombie Gendo is battling and swings, splitting its skull like a melon. The zombie falls.
Jon moves next to Auric and takes a ready stance with his sickle, awaiting the next undead to free itself from the entanglement.

William Varrus |

I'm pretty sure you'll need a free hand to load your sling Jon
Watching the zombies struggle with the vines attacking them, William tosses his dagger in the ground, point first and moves to collect his bow once again.
"Form a line, we can hold them here! When they break free I can take their legs from them. Gendo, you should collect my dagger, they don't seem to react much to blunt trauma."
Not sure if I can pick up an item in the adjacent square or not so he might be able to 5ft step, grab the bow and still shoot this round but that's up to the DM.
If William can still shoot this round, he will try to finish off the dwarf zombie he hit with the crit in round 1.
Shortbow : 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23
Damage : 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
(Add PBS if within 30ft, or soft cover if an ally is in the way?)

Auric Ironwright |

Auric steps forward and hurls his throwing axe at the dwarf stuck in the animated vegetation. Step to E5 and throw for H6; -2 penalty for range. 1 axe left to throw/wield.
Throwing axe: 1d20 ⇒ 51d6 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
And Auric throws it straight into his own foot.
"Damn it! And that right there is why I didn't sign up for the knife throwing contest!"

Shadowborn |

Round 5:
Gendo moves to William's side and takes his dagger from him, awaiting the zombies' eventual arrival.
William scoops up his bow and sends a shot toward the dwarf with the arrow still sticking out of his chest. The arrow catches the zombie in the eye, and it stands there a second longer before slumping to the ground, engulfed by the roiling foliage.
Jon really saved your butts with that entangle spell. I'm going to have to remember this next time I'm running a druid and fighting zombies...
The three free zombies are once again entangled before they are able to move out of the area. Only one of them is able to tear itself free from the vegetation, along with one other that started its round entangled. The lumbering undead seem to be spending too much time fighting the plants to even get to you at this point.
Auric hurls his axe, watching it miss the dwarf zombie he tossed it at, by about two feet, and get lost in the undergrowth.
Jon loads his sling and lets fly at the same zombie, having more luck as the stone crunches into its blank-eyed face, crushing the cheekbone.

William Varrus |

Yeah, 8 zombies with armor is a pretty hardcore encounter for a 1st level party that doesn't have a cleric and is light on slashing weapons. Luckily they have an achilles heel if you can cost them actions. Though, I doubt we'd be doing so well if we had to rely on my Grease :P
Is it just me or is there one too many zombies left on the map? What about the dwarf one William just killed?
William knocks another arrow and fires at the closest zombie.
Shortbow : 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (9) + 8 = 17
Damage : 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
Damn these things take a lot to put down! Jon and I will try to soften them up before they get loose..."

Shadowborn |

Round 6:
William fires a shot, plunking an arrow into the torso of the nearest dwarven zombie.
Once again the zombies are halted by Jon's spell, with the two that are free becoming entangled once again, and only one tearing itself free this round.
Auric moves to alter the combat line, readying his axe for the eventual onslaught.
Likewise, Gendo moves into position, dagger at the ready.
Jon sends another bullet hurtling towards his target, but the bullet bounces ineffectually off of its chest.

William Varrus |

"There may well be more undead inside the cave, we could just as easily end up cornered if we head inside! Does no one have any better way to combat these things? Look around the battlefield, perhaps there are some more appropriate weapons left around?"
William stops trying to bolster his allies and attempts to search the battlefield for any weapons not inside the effect of Jon's spell.
Perception : 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9
In frustration he fires another arrow at the dwarf he hit last round.
Shortbow : 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16
Damage : 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6

Shadowborn |

Round 6:
Gendo, scanning the area of the battle, notes that there is a dearth of weapons in the area, as if the fallen had been picked over before being animated. However, his sharp eyes spot two possibilities: A scythe, left near the large, bearded human that once wielded it, and a handaxe, lying partially beneath a fallen dwarf. Unfortunately, both lie within the boundaries of the entanglement (H8 and G10, respectively).
William shoots, thudding another arrow into the zombie's torso.
The zombies, through sheer effort, manage to overcome the vegetation this round. Three of the four entangled zombies pull free this round. The free dwarf zombie avoids being entangled again and surges from the bounds of the spell, stumbling into range of Gendo and Auric's readied attacks:
Gendo: Attack & Damage: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 171d6 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
The monk lands a front kick into the dead dwarf's head, snapping its head back.
Auric: Attack & Damage: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 231d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 212d6 + 8 ⇒ (3, 2) + 8 = 13 Crit Card Effect: "Stand Aside" x2 damage and push target 1 square in any direction. Auric buries his axe in the zombie's skull, then puts a boot to its chest and pulls his weapon free, sending the zombie tumbling away from him to crumple in a heap on the ground.
Jon sends another bullet whizzing, only to have it deflect off the zombie's helm.

Auric Ironwright |

Moving to E8 to attack the entangled dwarf zombie in E9.
"I'll get started on that straggler down there before they all get free when the spell wears off."
Throwing axe (melee): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 101d6 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
Sigh. I'm just going to have Shadowborn roll for Auric's attacks from now on.

Shadowborn |

Revised Initiative Order:
William
Zombies
Gendo
Auric
Jon
Round 7:
William moves for a clear shot and fires on one of the dwarf zombies. The arrow thunks into its mail but stops short of doing real damage.
The party's luck begins to fail them this round. While the entangled zombie remains stuck and the dwarf zombie further away is once again entangled, two others evade the grasping plants and shamble forward, pressing on William this round. Assuming the party wants to remain in some type of defensive formation, I'll reassess movement and targets.
Gendo moves to cover William, sending a fist into the open face of a dwarf zombie. The blow crushes its nose. While potentially damaging to a breathing opponent, it doesn't seem to slow the zombie at all.
Auric likewise moves in and hacks with his axe, but the blade is turned by the zombie's chainmail.
Jon steps in on William's left and attacks the human zombie with his sickle, cleaving into the leather of its armor, but not reaching undead flesh.

Gendo |

This is what I will do on my turn if I am still standing and either the dwarven zombi or human zombie are also still standing.
I will fight defensively as I unleash a two rapid strikes at the dwarven zombie (or human zombie if the dwarven one drops before I go)standing before me. After my attacks, I will take a 5 foot step back square E5
Attack 1: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (1) - 2 = -1
Damage 1: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Attack 2: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (8) - 2 = 6
Damage 2: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
you weren't kidding that our luck is failing

Shadowborn |

Round 8:
William's spell covers the snowy ground with a layer of grease. Both zombies tumble to the ground.
The fallen zombies don't bother to get to their feet; they simply flail away at Jon and Gendo. However, their prone condition makes their attacks ineffectual. (PCs melee attacks against them are modified by +4 this round.) Meanwhile, the other dwarf zombie tears itself free of the vegetation this round, while the human zombie continues to struggle.
Gendo throws a couple of swift kicks at the zombie beneath him, connecting but doing no damage, and then steps away from it.
Auric hacks down on the fallen zombie before him but fails to penetrate its mail.
Jon hacks down with his sickle, cleaving into the zombies shoulder as it struggles to get at him, carving a large wound into its dead flesh.

Shadowborn |

Round 9:
William fires another shot at the dwarven zombie, which once again is deflected by its mail.
The two prone zombies continue to flounder in the grease, lashing at Jon and Auric. The dwarf zombie lashes out, nearly catching Auric in the ankle with a crushing blow, but he manages to hop over the strike before it lands. The dwarf zombie within the area of Jon's spell is entangled once more, while the human zombie tears itself free this round.
Gendo moves up two deliver a couple more blows to the prone dwarf zombie, battering it without administering any real damage.
Auric brings his axe down onto thing's helm, staving it in and causing a trickle of blood and brain to ooze forth.
Jon continue to slash away with his sickle, landing a blow that takes the zombie in the back of its neck as it struggles to rise. It's spine nearly severed, it falls unmoving into the grease.
