I don't think we need to kill them. The bugbear can do that. We just need to cripple their overall structure so that they don't present a credible threat. By taking out experienced soldiers, they won't be able to mount an effective defense. It will be easier for us to remove 5-10 single people than remove all soldiers. Combine that with sabotage to critical defenses (weaken the gate or ensure is broken that day), we can drop this while place without having to kill 100+ soldiers. And it'll give those bugbears something to kill. Besides, I may want a strapping young soldier slave ;)

we can however disable a large portion of their soldiers if i can poison that lady's meal on Moondays. it should disable a large portion of the guards, maybe even kill several of them.
if we do it right, they may not even realize it was sabotage until too late. I think we should steal the rat poison, and quietly break into the Inn, and use the basement entrance, so we can leave no trace of our passing.

Speaking in common
Right, I think we have a plan.
I think we should break our tasks into two or more groups. One to research disabling or destroying the tower and the other disguises, route planning and exodus.
If I can get more of those fantastic elixirs from you Ash, I am happy to try to steal the dwarf's notebook and plans for you to copy. I pretty good with linguistics and engineering and can help you copying and forging documents. We need an engineering understand of what we actually can sabotage and what we will need to do so.
We can do this the night we return to town.
In a day's time? How long was the hike out here? Kuthona 16 through the 18 is the range of the attack window?
Separately we refine our disguises via the circlets. We could buy or craft our own from the town, but I have a feeling the tower, barracks and whatnot have plenty of costumes there to steal while they sleep. Perhaps we should focus on one set of costume which is immediately attainable, the servants and gather the more difficult from within. We have some parts with these men, but I assume we would need to repair them and remove the gore? Lastly, I assume magic is better for those such as Leo, that would have to somehow store and don his armor separately with a cloth costume, no?
We can get disguises, perfect personalities and memorize locations and names during the coming week so we enter the tower as if we have always been there. This should also allow for us to gather any demotions or specialized tools. I think we should plan to breach on a day of the second week of Kuthona (2-8). This would also allow for side plans like marital manipulations or the like should they show value.
Issues.
We still do not know where the tunnel ends in the tower, so I think the circlets would serve for flexibility in disguise depending on what's on the other side. Perhaps we should have one or more exploratory trips into the tunnel just so we can plan our breach proper?
If Loran is done with his meal, we need to clean up our little campground here. We should leave here within the next day at the latest.

That's a great idea, Ash. Let's plan on doing that this coming Moonday... I'll plan on sending the letter to the Captain who's wife is cheating on him ASAP. And maybe the day before Moonday we can take out the dwarves somehow since it's their drunk-day?
Maybe we can pick a fight with them, use non-lethal, then "take them to their rooms to sleep it off"... And slit their throats when we leave them there? Just a thought.
Neji Volrata Eidolon
I like the Moonday poison plan as well..even the letter, if you think you can pull it off, and you know I love the idea of dwarfacide, but we cant leave their bodies behind to rouse suspicion in such a public venue.

for those that need a recap:
After Varning and six of his men were killed on the shores of Lake Tarik, you've set up a camp outside of town. Some of you went in and stayed in the inn, making a copy of the dwarf's detailed map of the watchtower.
The letter was planted informing a captain that another captain was sleeping with his wife, and one of the guard captains killed the other in a duel. Now one is dead, and the other is in jail in the watchtower.
Ye Merry Men came to town, and performed in the tower on Starday evening. There was no point in attacking or trying something then, as you decided to wait for Moonday before starting actions in the watchtower, beginning with poisoning the stew.
On Moonday, Mamma Giuseppe was kidnapped by Victor, Temperance, and Ash. They impersonated a Dwarven worshiper of something evil, and taunted her and tortured her. They infiltrated the watchtower and poisoned the stew ( apparently successfully ). Ash and Leo didn't return immediately, but lack of action came in handy, as they were just waiting for the secret entrance to be accessible again.
Now you're off to sneak back into the tower, and take out the messenger ravens. you've all snuck in through the tunnel, and are ascending the tower in soldiers disguises. One guard was killed in the Flag room, while two more guards were found at the top of the tower, and are being fought now. One lies in a burnt crisp, the other isn't going down fast enough, and is shouting an alarm while trying to kill intruders.
Gay Master
A burnt crisp was just the start, as sword, lucerne, flame, and dark energy tore through swarm after swarm of ravens, and Mad Martin was bashed in to become Flat Martin. His ornate signal horn confiscated, it had already been blown before combat though, and by the time everyone was down to the first level again, six soldiers and a captain were approaching the first floor door.
Well placed spells from Temperance kept them mired in entangling grasses though before most of them even reached the doorway. Long enough for Leo and Neji to get down and prepare for Captain Barhold to enter.
Neji gave the captain a nasty Burning Grasp, and in retaliation Barhold sliced through Ash's morningstar and Neji's lucerne hammer, leaving them injured but not dead, before Temperance and Forsythe spelled him and he doubled over, laughing on the floor.
Ash ran from the tower, leading the guards on a goose chase. While the rest escaped back into the tunnels, leaving a decoy scroll in place to indicate that they'd teleported away, when reall they carried Barhold's body down into the secret tunnels.
Injured a bit, but alive, and with a key communications tower effectively destroyed, the group rests to plot their next step.

heh, funny that we play in the discussion thread and now i'm discussing on the gameplay thread. but oh well. precedent.
when we started, there were more of us. we lost john and doug along the way, gained some, lost some. now will's taken more of a back seat, don't know if he'll be coming back to the campaign.
so i'm opening up the discussion: do y'all wanna continue this out to the end of this book? keep on going with the campaign? I can keep gm'ing for you ( zach, alan, and chris ). and i know, chris is a little laid back posting as well at times. Should we try and recruit some more players to take over existing characters? I'm currently running ash, leo, and forsythe. zach is running temperance and victor.
ideas? input?

I would also like to keep going. This is one of two groups for me and both are small and online. So, I'm not put off by membership numbers.
What are your thoughts on adding Mitch, Alan? I don't know if you know Mitch very well, but I've gamed with him quite a bit and I think he's solid. Do I know Mike? I don't recognize the name and didn't see a picture I recognized on google images.
Even if we don't add to the group, I think it's fun. We can NPC some former PCs or get them killed and replace them with cohorts or whatever.
Gay Master
see if you can pitch them one of our current NPCs: Leo, Victor, Forsythe , for now, and have them pitch what they would like to play over to my seraphimunk gmail.
Gay Master
If you wanna play Forsythe, give her some flavor, that'd be cool. I've just been going with cold and aloof yet jada pinket smith sensual with the Death's Kiss. For now. We can weed some npc's out with the next chapter of the campaign.
Gay Master
no worries. we'll probably be in this module another week or three.
Gay Master
On Tacitus you find:
scroll of dispel magic
potion of cure light wounds
potion of cure serious wounds
diamond dust worth 500gp
a dagger
cloak of resistance +1
spell component pouch
a key
a mwk wand (that's obv his bonded focus and useless to others)
Gay Master
on the plus side. with an 11 round fight, and them busy for at least 2 more rounds, its going to be hard for them to save any of the sick or dying guards you guys dealt with. statistically, they might be able to save some of them. i havent' rolled yet, but i'm sure some may have stabilized.

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.arcanosoft.wayfinder
discovered a new toy by playing several other play by post campaigns.
also, some players put trackables in their title line with the spoiler tags, to keep track of spell slots open or daily uses. i might try it.
WhatWouldTemperanceSay
First test with the app. "I feel like talking is so much easier now!"
Yea, the blocks are enough to make it worth it.
random roll: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (6) + 11 = 17
But for some reason Tempy is not listed as a valid character for me to post as (there are like 10 valid characters listed, including stupid Victor, but not Tempy). Awesome.
Gay Master
if tempy makes a comment in the gameplay thread, it might pop up as a character
Gay Master
I'm odd, i know. I'm moving the "Gameplay" back to the "Gameplay" thread instead of the "Discussion" thread. I don't have 5th level sheets from Tempy, Loran, or Neji shared (just presumably outdated 1st or starting sheets). I made a 5th level forsythe: here. And then, because organization is everything:
- Victor - drinking a Reduce Person (small).resources wrote:
1st - Vanish (OO), Expeditious Retreat, Hold Portal.
- Tempy - Invisible (tempy), Mage Armor (tempy)
resources wrote:2nd - OOOXX; hideous laughter, invisibility; 1st - OOOOOOX; mage armor,
- Leo - Invisible (tempy). resources wrote:
1st - litany of sloth, doom
- Neji - Guidance, Message, Mage Armor, Touch of Fatigue (held - can't touch things), Reduce Person (ash) (tiny) (hanging on under tempy's dress). sorcerer resources wrote:
1st - OOO; burning hands, shocking grasp
summoner resources wrote:1st - OO; lesser rejuvinate eidolon, shield
- Ash - Invisible (ash). resources wrote:
2nd - Summon Monster II; 1st - expeditious retreat, shield (OO), recharge innate magic
- Loran - resources wrote:
2nd - OOO; 1st - OOOOO
- Forsythe - Invisible (ash). resources wrote:
3rd—animate dead [D], blindness/deafness (DC 17), dispel magic;
2nd—ghoul touch [D] (DC 16), desecrate, hold person (DC 16), cure moderate wounds;
1st—bless, cause fear [D] (DC 15), cure light wounds (OO), obscuring mist;
If everything looks good, I'll "kick open the door" as they say in Munchkin.

Gameplay makes more sense to me, and I think we were only after talking in one place. But to be difficult, NO THIS RUINS MY IMMERSION!
I don't have the Neji PDFs here at work, but I already updated all their stats, here for Neji and here, for the Eidolon.
Are the "OO"s the number of castables per day?
Gay Master
yeah, i took guesses at spell slots #'s
Gay Master
that works too. i don't have sheets for Ash or Leo. i just use their profiles.
Edward Fortysythes
jeez I miss Grizzbit already. Krizzbit sucks. Next level i can turn a 1st level peasant into a skeletal champion. can't wait.
I'll just leave Krizzbit wandering around I think, to cause trouble. It should serve as a good diversion. I'll order him to accompany Victor , which should work until Victor goes invisible and Krizz' won't be able to follow him anymore.
I'm going to try to Pilfering Hand the cleric's holy symbol. that should shut him down if it works. I just need to get within 45 feet of him.

I plan to just drop darkness on them. I haven't seen anything they've got to counter darkness. so instead of using it for stealth this time to get into position, I'm just going to save it for combat, and an extract to replenish it, in case we need to stage two combats. I'll use it as a backup though, in case Temperance can't just end the fight with jokes.
Leo the Fake
I'm just carrying the scroll of summon monster II for backup. Loran, you should be able to summon Dretches now... if Spawn goes down, you've got a variety of summons available. I'll just plan to summon a fiendish Hyena. the scroll will only summon them for 3 rounds anyway.
Neji Volrata Eidolon
Here's the Drive link to the two PDFs. They should be nearly identical and accurate. I'll confirm when I get home.
Here is my current castable situation:
Cantrip 0s - Guidance, Message, Touch of Fatigue
Summoner 1st - OOOØ; lesser rejuvenate eidolon, shield, reduce person
Sorcerer 1st - OOOOO (nothing cast yet); burning hands, shocking grasp
Wand 1st - Mage Armor
Gay Master
ooh. how'd you make that O with the slashthrough!
Alan Giorgi
|
It's just an empty set notation, it should be on your character map. Or just copy and paste like I did. :)
Gay Master
pft. post to the old thread? that's so old school.
WhatWouldTemperanceSay
Tempy - Invisible (tempy), Mage Armor (tempy)
2nd - OOOØØ; hideous laughter, invisibility,false life; 1st - OOOOOOOØ; mage armor,entangle,magic missile,grease,charm person
I'll hold off on false life. I want to try out this new magic, but I'm much more concerned about having enough 2nd lvl slots to entertain all the goodie goodies. If I die horribly, then oops.
Gay Master
if that's your sheet Loran, is there a reason you're not including the bonus spells per day for having a high charisma? you should have one more spell slot of 2nd and two more 1st from a 20 CHA.
You emerge without too much of a ruckus from the tunnel, the dwarven craftsmanship sealing tight behind you without a hint of a seam or door, as always. As it shuts the solemness of the stone and the essence of a crypt settles on you in the silence. You eye the ladder and begin to ascend up to the smithy. The forges are cold and empty, abandoned or neglected today.
You were going to go up to the 2nd floor and over to the walkway right? i can't find the discussion post with the path laid out.
You don't look like much, with neji just three apples high, hanging inside temperance's skirts as they brush the stone steps. the real skirts invisible, and an illusion wrapping her to appear like a soldier even if someone were to pierce the invisibility. It looks like just Loran and Victor making their way up the stairs.
Coming up the stairs to the first landing, you hear a pair of guards in the flag room above you.
what would you like to do? you're coming up the round stairs from the smithy to the 1st floor flag room. it sounds like two guards.
Neji Volrata Eidolon
Two guards on guard or walking away, making out or wha?
Here is the link to the "plan";
Head through the secret entrance. Make our way to the gatehouse (I recommend the Neji path of 32 -> battlements ->24 -> 33). Then fight our way down from the ceiling of the gatehouse, send the signal, bar the door between 24 and 25. Then we figure out how to disable the portcullis and gate permanently if we can (that would be ideal, because then we could retreat if necc).
Whisper,
If they are guarding, they are sure to alert at ANYTHING that is out of the ordinary, including wandering Soldiers. We need to take them out quietly and quickly. We should assume they have horns or also magics like Message, or worse, Status.
