minor-shift to k4, move to h4, next to leo, across from mirth. riposte strike on Devlin (d20+13 vs AC, 32, damage is d4+4+2d8+3= 2+4+11+3= 20 hp damage to Devlin and setup a counterstrike)

Snaggletooth moves up and behind Devlin. As he strikes him deep in the side, Snaggle says to the mercenary, "This is the time for you to run away. If you don't, you will die here, just like these pale ones. You pick wrong side again." Then he drops back in a fighting stance.

"Don't know so much as I'm on the wrong side. More that we'd be better off collaborating."

Seemingly not even a bloodying wound can stop Devlin's opportunistic attempts at survival.

a bloodying wound

colorful description or is Devlin bloodied?

also, did Devlin get his OA against me? I want to be fair. I will carve it out of his hide in a round or two. :)

Devlin is bloodied. He didn't get an OA because I thought for some reason you could get to him without incurring one. Given the choice of him or Thoran, I'd agree that Devvers is the (slightly) better bet. Here you go.

Devlin's halberd slashes hard into Snaggletooth as the kobold maneuvers for position.

OA Devlin v Snaggle (1d20 10=22, 1d10 8=15). 15hp damage to Snaggletooth.

Female Tiefling Wizard 6

Readying herself for a parting shot from the prattling Devlin, Mirth slides out of her corner, easing past Caine and placing her back firmly to the tower's wall before subtly nudging the shadows that surely haunt the warlord's mind into turning against him.

"Thoran owns courage enough to die in this room, coward. Art thou afraid to do the same?" the Tiefling asks Devlin loudly, eyeing his proximity to the room's only egress.

Move to L3 (should provoke OA's from Devlin, but he's Marked, I have +2 def from something or other and will use Sly Dodge for another +3 if necessary.)
Illusory Ambush vs Devlin (Will): 1d20+8=20, 1d6+5=7 damage and -2 to Attacks 'til EoMNT. (If an OA hits me, add +1 to my Attack and +3 to my damage from Infernal Wrath.)

"Thoran reckons he's a big damn hero and I'm just dishonest. Bit of difference."

Devlin slams his halberd casually into Mirth as she sidles past him before flinching slightly as her illusions hit him and Leo's divine power bites deep.

"Yup. You got the power there horny gal."
Divine Challenge should actually have gone off on Snaggle's turn, but will apply damage now.
OA Devlin v Mirth (1d20 8=25, 1d10 8=9). 9hp damage to Mirth.

Recharge Finishing blow (1d6=6)
Thoran smiles as his powers return to him.

Recharge Dance of Death (5,6) (1d6=1, 1d6=5). CF2 recharges Dance of Death.

Raising his greatsword, Thoran swings a wide arc around Brujo, trying to push the moonelf off his feet.
Shadow Throw (Ref) v Brujo. On hit target is knocked prone and may be pushed two squares. (1d20 12=17, 1d6 5=9). Misses.

With an unholy smile, the sword strikes again, this time aiming only to kill.
Thoran v Brujo (1d20 12=32, 1d10 5=11). Crit. 15hp damage to Brujo.

Seeing Mirth vulnerable, CF1 leaps towards, ominous as the shadows that spawned him and lashes out with the spiked chain. His aim is unerring.
CF1 v Mirth (1d20 12=25, 2d4 4=8). 8hp damage to Mirth. Total 17hp damage this round.

Chainfighter 2 begins his lethal dance again, eyes alight with a savage glee as he targets Snaggletooth, Leo and Caine.
Dance of Death v Snaggletooth (1d20 12=27, 2d4 4=9, 1d6=1). 10hp damage to Snaggletooth.
Dance of Death v Leo (1d20 12=27, 2d4 4=8, 1d6=5). 13hp damage to Leo.
Dance of Death v Caine (1d20 12=26, 2d4 4=11, 1d6=1). 12hp damage to Caine.

"You have to admire the skills, you really do. Feel almost ashamed to try and follow that. How's about you hit him again?" Devlin nods at CF2 and indicates Leo. Blows shower around the paladin as Devlin overcomes his scruples and stabs hard before ducking into the stairwell beside Caine.
Hammer and Anvil v Leo. Allows ally adjacent to target to make melee basic attack at +2. (1d20 8=25, 2d10 8=16). 9hp damage to Leo manually amended as inadvertantly rolled 2d10.
Hammer and Anvil free attack v Leo (1d20 14=25, 2d4 4=8). 8hp damage to Leo. 30hp damage to Leo this turn.

Through the ruck of battle you can all see that CF2 and Devlin are badly wounded. Neither can last much longer.

Rev, I don't think Mirth is Bloodied yet, as she had +7 temp HP's (from Leo?) and this is the first time she has been hit this encounter, IIRC. Of course, I may be wrong ;)

You're quite right. She has 7 temp hp which I was forgetting about. Excellent. I'll amend it. You're on the cusp of success here I feel.

Male Half Elf Paladin 6th

I'll post this now as I'll probably miss it otherwise: leo shifts to G-4 and then divine challenges Chain Fighter#2 before employing On Pain of Death on him: Roll 1d20+6+2: 14+6+2 for total of 22 vs his Will, if that hits (god I'm hoping!) it does 3d8+4 damage: 8+3+3+4 for total of 18 damage and once per round he takes 1d8 damage after making any attacks for that round but only once until he makes his save however if it misses he takes 9 damage and takes 1d4 damage after making any attacks but only once per round until he makes his save

Leo moves behind Snaggletooth as he barely recovers from that last round of blows.
"Sorry Snaggletooth hope this makes up for this," Leo mutters as he unleashes his strongest divine power upon the chainfighter.

Now for the owch part!

OUCH at 9hp.

Brujo just gives a smile and thinks about his next actions.

F Half-elf Ranger 4 (multiclass - Rogue)

Move - stand up. Twin Strike +12 = 26 vs AC with magic longsword. Damage 1d8+2 +1d8 Quarry = 10 damage. Twin Strike +10 = 24 vs AC with normal longsword. Damage 1d8 = 2. Total damage to Thoran = 12

"Behind you."

Fairwind rises like a sardonic phoenix and bloodies Thoran again, while Leo invokes Kelemvor's potent aid to end the threat of the shadow being before him. The chainfighter's eyes widen as divine light washes over him, fusing his hands agonisingly to his weapon. Until he can free them, every attack will inflict more agony on the shadar kai.

Thoran spins and stares at the ranger, outraged at her revival. Devlin roars with painful laughter. "I warned you. These guys don't take death lying down."

Realizing that Devlin is on the verge of escaping, Cronin shifts targets. Moving for a better line of sight (F5), he arcs a lance of silver light at the warlord.

LoF vs Dev ref (1d20+7=18, 1d8+6=11) Maybe a hit, 11hp and +2 for Caine's next attack on Devlin if so.

Spoiler:
Is it possible to topple the pillar on Thoran? If I moved into the square on the opposite side and bull rushed the pillar, would I be able to push it into Thoran and how much damage would that be? I forgot how heavy or light the pillars are and I don't know what a falling pillar would cause for damage.

Cronin's attack just hits Devlin. For the first time, the warlord allows himself to look mildly alarmed.

Caine tries to size up his options. Both Devlin and the Chainfighter are within his reach. Shifting to flank the Chainfighter, he tries, and fails to hit the shadar kai.

Rolled for it as I couldn't decide.
Who to attack -
1,2 - Devlin
3,4 - CF2 (1d4=4)

Caine v CF2 (1d20 12=16, 1d10 4=9). Sigh. At least even with Cronin's bonus that wouldn't have hit Devlin.

Snaggletooth

Spoiler:
Bullrushing the pillar. It's quite possible and would require a DC15 strength check to push it over as it's set into a niche on the plinth. It's made of alabaster, so it wouldn't do that much damage as a falling object, but I'll allow you 1d8 of damage. I reckon that if you hit Thoran, there's a reasonable chance you'd knock him prone. You'll need to roll Str v Ref to do that. Any good?

Male Kobold Rogue 6

why would I want to keep an enemy alive? he's dead. the last thing I need is Mr. "Nevershutsup" Devlin to use one of his inspiring words to bring him back. If Snaggle has to gut the pale one like a pig, I will be happy to.

Snaggletooth, after stabbing deep into the "pale one", pauses for a moment to make sure he is dead by poking at him with his dagger, then looks up at Devlin by the stairwell.

"I told you, Dev-lin, you stay, you die, just like this one." He points to the dead body below him. "I still owe you from before, dirty one. You are going to die here." The calm, certainity in his voice lets everyone know he is not joking around. "But first, I need to see about your boss." And he moves into the aura right on the other side of the pillar from Thorin.

I didn't think you'd particularly want him alive, but it seemed polite to ask. You might have had some cunning plan I knew nothing about. :D

Male Kobold Rogue 6

not this time, but thanks for asking. IF it was Thorin's woman or something like that, a potential bargaining chip, that's a different story. But I wanted to put the fear into Devlin before he runs off again. Loser.

He likes being alive. It's a viewpoint that's hard to disagree with.

He springs back and arcs a wave if azure flame at Thoran

Shift to K8. Changing Ray on Thoran, 1d20+8=25 vs Reflex; Damage 1d8+5=9 force, and Thoran is dazed and until the end of my next turn.

Perigia quickly shakes off the blindness. 1d20=11 "I hope the other people catch that other Dark One," she says as she looks around. "At least the pillar is safe." Sorry I haven't posted in a few days. It is the first week of summer school and things have been crazy.

Brujo - you can't shift within the aura unless you have a power which allows you to shift more than two squares. You may wish to re-think your action. If you move, you'll have to take an OA from Thoran.

Note that the Chainfighter could shift out of the aura last turn as he had a power which enabled him to shift six squares.

Pre-emptive posting! Unless Brujo does something to alter things, here's what Mirth has planned:

Spoiler:
Mirth steps toward the center of the room, keeping Devlin in sight as he retreats. With a subtle gesture and an arcane mutter, the tiefling coaxes the shadows from the stairwell into a writhing, clinging puddle at the warlord's feet.

Shift K4. Grasping Shadows (Burst 1) on Devlin (Will): 1d20+8=18, 1d8+5=9 damage and Slowed until EoMNT. Zone: Any creature entering takes 4 psychic and is Slowed until end of Its next turn. (let's hope 18 hits!)

Bring the OA

Brujo attempts to step away from Thoran, but the shadar kai is too quick for him. Another mighty blow of the greatsword strikes at the moonelf's legs, almost bringing him to the ground. The blue flames enveloping Brujo flare outwards, writhing around Thoran and dazing him.
OA Thoran v Brujo (1d20+12=32, 1d10+5=15)
Crit. 15hp damage to Brujo taking him to 2.

Shadows rise from Mirth's finger tips as she calls on her heritage to ensnare Devlin. Green dots indicate the zone.

The warlord involuntarily flinches back from the nightmares creeping inexorably around his feet.

Thoran smiles in exaltation as Brujo backs away and advances once more on the swordmage, greatsword raking through the air.
Used AP to move.
Thoran v Brujo (1d20 12=25, 1d10 5=14). 14hp damage to Brujo, taking him to -12.

Recharge Dance of Death (5,6) (1d6=1). No recharge.

The remaining Chainfighter extends a long arm, the movement echoing Mirth's own evocation of the shadow world and lets his spiked chain bit deep into the tiefling.
CF1 v Mirth (1d20 12=25, 2d4 4=10). 10hp damage to Mirth.

Devlin looks at Fairwind and Mirth. "In kind of a dilemma here. Mythic kobold's in the right of it. Running's what I'm planning on. Got a better offer?"

Thoran's lip curls. "You would run from honourable death?"

"Guess I prefer dishonourable life." Devlin backs carefully down the stairs. Double move. He's at the bottom of the stairs.

Spoiler:

Allendi pick up the creeper's cloak and looks at it with distaste.

"I don't like this Perigia. If they could get past Turnagall they must be desperate."

Heading into the cellar, he rouses his stricken brother and helps him to his feet. Close examination shows no obvious way the dark ones could have entered and you can only conclude that they must have sneaked through the building. "And that," comments Allendi grimly, "is not a pleasant thought."

"I can't help feeling you should rejoin your friends. If dark ones are prepared to risk entering a place like this, matters must be close to a conclusion."

He pulls a ancient map from the book case and examines it closely. Finally he turns to the mage, tapping the parchment.

"You say you and your companions have cleared the Tower of occupants? If that's the case, I'd suggest you bypass the crypt and the cellars and go in through the front door. I think Turnagall can open it for you once he's recovered a bit. You'll save some time and with luck, most of the surprises have already been triggered. Isn't that so, young man?"

He looks hard at Palagro as the student watches Perigia with hero-worshipping eyes.

"Stop drooling and engage your brains. The lady needs help, not hormones."

Leo moves in towards the remaining chain fighter.
"I will be your opponent now and even if the commander's strike or even if I must be caught within the area effects of my comrades blows I intend to see this battle to the end unlike your former ally," Leo addresses the chain fighter quite clearly as is clear the half elven paladin is sorely wounded.

Move first to H-5 then straight down to K-6 before finally M-4 then divine challenges the chain fighter before employing a holy strike upon him: 1d20+9: rolled a 12+9 for 21 to hit doing 1d8+6 or 3+6 for 9pts of radiant damage with 2 healing surges left!

Leo's challenge captures the Chainfighter's attention and the shadow warrior raises a hand in formal salute. Whatever Devlin's motivations, the shadar kai embrace a warrior culture and honour the purity of battle.

Cronin eases closer and hurls Selune's wrath at Thoran, invoking his goddess's aid on behalf of Fairwind.
LoF (Ref) v Thoran (1d20 7=21, 1d8 6=12). Fairwind gets a +2 attack bonus next time she attacks Thoran.

Caine stays put, and bellows at Leo "Take him now!" The paladin takes full advantage of Caine's help. Looking wildly around at his comrades, he uses his last Inspiring Word to get Brujo back into consciousness.
Commander's Strike - Leo v CF1 (1d20 9=21, 1d8 6=11). Hits.
