Correct.

I fixed Gilganis and Ned.

I should point out, the game starts in Taldor. You don't need to make your humans all ulfen just because the AP has Winter in the name.

I was amused by the rash of arctic themed characters myself. :)

Kaelifax is only *half* Ulfen.

But yes, I was pretty shocked when I saw just how far from the North the AP starts, considering the themes -- I mean, look at the campaign traits -- how many failed Winter Witches from Irrisen do we think sail all the way past Absalom to end up in southern Taldor?

I mean, what, they hated the tundra so much they headed for the warm climes?

Still, I think that just makes it all more fun. :)

It's actually not that bad. Only 4 of the 13 humans that applies are ulfen.

Even Winter Witches need a vacation right? If you are from Minnesota where do you go in the winter months? Florida! :)

I can see it now, winter witches by the thousands descending on Taldor. Their pale skin all slathered up in whatever passes for sunscreen in Golarion. Sitting around the beaches by the sea and chatting about the latest evil curse they've created. What a storyline!

Dark Archive

Magnus' father is Ulfen, his mother Irrisen. That explains his northern heritage and his penchant for cold based spells.

Haha! Well I am not Ulfen, just happened to be traveling on through the area at the time, spreading the news of the impending destruction at the hands of the dragons. Same as usual ,')

Smaug will be good as a party face (well, as good as an old, half crazed man can be... but hey! He's good at swaying the crowds!), minor support but his eidolon should be a half decent front liner and later, knower of known things :)

Hey Ankih isn't on the list!!!

Fixed.

Mez, I know you pointed out some things that need to be edited on Brutus' Tarsi, but I can't edit my post for some reason, so if he gets selected, when I make an alias for him I will get those things adjusted.

Gilganis Felspar wrote:

In my family, those from Minnesota tend to end up going to other cold climes in winter, but then again we're weird. One of my cousins who lived up there wore flip flops every day for a year straight once just to say she did it. *sigh*

Thanks! XD

Ok, I agree, that's weird! But winter witches aren't weird, they are cool.

See what I did there? Did you see it? Tell me you saw it! Tell me tell me tell me! :)

*buh-dum chsh*

Ok, if I take a witch and a bard, the bard must now sing "Cold as Ice" wherever they go, and also hit on the witch often.

I'll take a few ranks in Perform, Singing just to make that happen. Bet on it! :)

Dark Archive

Taking a long drag on his cigar Rath stars at the bard screeching "Cold as Ice". "That has to be a breach of some contract with a devil, you may be on my list!" He coldly states.

By way of an explanation, you only have an hour to edit/delete posts on the boards, and then they're locked in forever.

I feel like there should be a joke inserted here about cold witches... something from Grumpy Old Men... ah well it escapes me. ;)

There was a bug briefly where you couldn't edit at all but that was fixed sometime today.

Gah, so many good choices!

Given that I'm already scratching my head to come up with ways to decide, and that the applications are slowing, I'm going to announce a 24 hour "Last Call." Make your edits, complete your characters if dotted, and I'll be making my final decision tomorrow around this time tomorrow.

Oh really? Ah, I did not know that. Well I'm glad it's fixed then.

As the bardic applicant, I'll prep Foreigner's Greatest Hits. ;)

Looking forward to it Mez.

Best of luck everyone!

I would really like to be part of this group but I agree, it looks like any group he picks will be awesome and you will all have a lot of good times!

OK. the Fluffy parts are now complete. Sorry for so much to read but I hope you like it Mez. All info is in my alias now. Enjoy!
XD
Oh and good luck all. Hope I make it but if not I'll see ya in the other thread Mez.

Ankih, maybe our chars would know eachother. Mine is a cleric-crusader of sarenrae. What are the odds. ;)

Wow... looking at everyone else's characters, I have to say, even if I don't get picked I'll be reading this path. It's going to be freaking sweet.

Good luck to everyone!

Thanks! I appreciate the info, wasn't sure why it worked sometimes but not other times.

And by the way, thanks for the visual of bikini clad witches sitting on the Taldor beach, midriffs rife with warts.

Based on the cover art and the iconic witch, I can think of worse beach bunnies.

Of course, now I'm totally thinking of a late-50's/early-60's beach movie about surfers and winter witches.

Okay, we had to get a Foreigner song stuck in my head, really?

That's just cold!

And I'd point out that Taldor has a long tradition of hiring a handful of Ulfens to protect their Prince. And virtually no other relations exist between the two lands. So it makes perfect sense that my Ulfen ranger would have ended up there. Somehow.

Khelreddin wrote:

So, apparently the adventure needs a bard with a hand drum and castanets. >.>

1, not Ulfen, not even remotely.
2, I think I'm still listed as a rogue on the spreadsheet, when I'm actually a Bard.
3, crunch is done. (I think).

Last thing, I have not done PbP before, but I've played Pathfinder F2F quite a bit and have some experience with other games. I'm on Pacific Standard Time and most of my posting will be in the evenings here, so maybe midnight Central Time.

This promises to be an exciting group and I don't envy our GM his job of choosing a party.

Good luck everyone!

Ya, sounds like it would be a blast (a fefreshing one, if a bit chilly), and thanks for the 24 hour notice :) will get the last of the crunch done and get some fluffy bits added. I hear fluff is great for keeping the cold out...

Actually, if anyone took the time to read my background, there is a reason that an arctic druid dwells in Taldor.

I left Oliver a little non-specific, because I didn't want to commit him to any one region or nationality based on where the starter town was placed. Also, since I only really have the resources for PF rulebooks, I'm not exactly a wealth of knowledge about Golarion. His nationality isn't as big a part of who he is as how he was raised.

I do think it's funny, if you go back and look at almost all the RoW recruitments, just how many winter based/themed PCs there tends to be on average.

As for Foreigner. That was one of those bands that I did not realize just how many good songs were theirs until I picked up their greatest hits album. Hot-blooded, Juke box hero, Cold as Ice, Head Games, to name just a few.

I love some Foreigner! Urgent is an amazing song that people always forget about them!

I am sure Rath wouldnt care for them though ;)

Jukebox Hero is one of those songs that's great no matter how badly the coverband butchers it.

Oliver Hoffman wrote:

I think that's because of the campaign traits. Blood of Giants, Failed Winter Witch Apprentice, Northern Ancestry, and Warded Against Witchery all need some serious tinkering to make them work anywhere else except the Lands of The Linnorm Kings, Irrisen and the Mammoth Lords.

I will admit, the campaign traits were all very specific to the area. In fact, if I remember correctly, the one I chose was because it was the only not winter/regional specific one that would fit.

I think the intent of the campaign beginning, starting elsewhere, was so that the harshness of the cold environment could be an issue for the PC's to deal with. Too bad the traits seem to almost drop the ball in encouraging non-winter PC's.

I'm all ready to uncover the secret Irrisen herritage of my great grandmother.

The opening here does seem a little weird, we're in Taldor but the campaign traits point to Irrisen... It's like the right hand didn't quite know what the left hand was doing.

Background:

Spoiler:
Wade was born from an Irissian father and a Taldorian mother. The father fled Irrissen for unknown reasons he had never revealed. However, he would tell tales of the frozen north on occasion. These tales had fascinated young Wade. His mother was a farmer, supplying the city of Solku with grain and milk. When Wade grew into a young man, he joined the church of Sarenrae in Solku. Solku being a city founded by a splintersection of the Cult of the Dawnflower, young men would be tested for their physical abilities as well as spiritual attunement. The Cult was a militant faction of the Church of Sarendae afterall. While not the strongest arm, Wade showed promise in enduring any exersize as well as being able to cast spells. He was assigned to a special order of the church. The crusade division; following a strict guideline: from the remorseless evil of the undead and fiends to the cruelties born in the hearts of mortals, Sarenrae's doctrines preach swift justice delivered by the scimitar's edge. As such, if any of these cases would arise to threaten lands where Sarenrae was worshipped, the crusaders would march against the threat.
One day a high priestess in Solku received a vision from Sarenrae. An evil would occur in Irissen. Something terrible would come to be if this would go unchecked. And so a division of crusaders, including Wade, set of for Irissen. They searched for 2 years, skirmishing with it's natives, for any clues. Alas, it had not been discovered. To make matters worse, some had come down with strange afflictions and would need to be sent back to Solku. This would proceed to the point where nearly 75% of the crusade was headed back. Wade and a small group were last remaining. One snowy night, there was a large midnight raid upon the crusaders' camp. Only a handful including Wade survived. Wade chose to warn other churches of Sarenrae of the vision and split off from his detachment. Heldren being the next stop.

Personality:

Spoiler:
Wade is a fairly straight forward type of guy. He values comrades, but would not hold back giving an opinion. When it comes to matters concerning the undead and fiends, he can get a bit zealous about removing them. For some unknown reason, he gets nervous when he hears explosives.

Pretty much what I was saying -- other than "Northern Heritage", the traits would make a lot more sense if we were starting somewhere a wee bit farther north -- even Varisia.

And while there are more than a few northern/wintery characters, the Player's Guide basically recommended such. I mean, it dedicated several pages to reprinting Winter Witch (both the Archetype and the PrC) -- so basically, it builds up all these themes, gets you in a cold headspace, and then -- whack -- by the way, you're starting in southern Taldor.

That misdirection is part of why I’m allowing people to start with 2 normal traits, because in my opinion, it would be much more likely that normal Taldan adventurers would get sucked into this campaign than an entire group of relocated Ulfen/Irrisen. I think they were going for the stereotypic “quiet country town” that can be anywhere.

Oliver, just to throw this out here, I found a good wiki that had some info on Golarian.

http://www.pathfinderwiki.com/wiki/Pathfinder_Wiki

I was in the same boat, just access to core rules, not any of the Golarian stuff, and found it really helpful, just for future reference.

The player's guide is also really useful. But yeah, I always pegged this as a 'fish out of water' kind of campaign. Someone who has no business being in Irrisen suddenly winds up in this hostile, frozen environment.

Dark Archive

Updated Rath to add his Traits.

Avora is ready and raring to go (assuming she gets picked ::fingers crossed::).
