While Guiness readies to receive the hounds, Ziva takes the first directly to them. With blazing wings, she practically flings herself at the closest hound. Her blade slashes deep into blue, parting the creature's rubbery hide. A column of holy starlight erupts around the hounds, leaving them writhing in agony.

The hounds spring back, badly burned by the light. The eyes of all three begin to glitter and you see your view of them begin to distort. It seems almost like a blur spell as first, but then the distortion spreads to engulf you three as well. The air around you begins to twist and tear, light grows bright and fades. The distortion starts to tear at your bodies...

While Ziva and Guiness endure it just fine, Astrid is caught by the distortion and feels it tearing at her skin (19 dmg) Meanwhile the red hound howls a spell of quickness, resulting in all three hounds suddenly moving unusually fast. The blue hound howls a spell of vanishing and disappears from normal sight. The yellow hound trots to the side and attempts to howl a spell of slowing with all three of you in view.

While Ziva slowly advances, Kellek identifies the beasts as something far rarer and stranger than mere dogs. These are Hounds of Tindalos, extraplanar predators from beyond the bounds of generally understood reality. They are intelligent and highly magical, and they have an uncanny ability to travel within the seams of reality, abruptly appearing at the meeting of a fixed angle or corner in an environment. Curved, smoothed spaces with no right angles are repelling to them and leave them weak. Kellek knows its deeply dangerous to try to read the mind of a Hound of Tindalos, and that they possess a ripping gaze that tears at the fabric of normal space within 30 feet.

Astrid rushes in upon the red hound, striking true with her longspear and plunging it deep into the creature's side. Though the weapon passes all the way through, the hound simply tugs itself free of her weapon, oddly unphased despite its injury. Colvyn's invisibility purge reveals the blue hound as well.

The red hound flings itself at Ziva, but isn't able to get through her magical defenses with its teeth or claws. The blue hound leaps at Astrid, but she's just barely able to fend it off with the haft of her spear.

Astrid's distraction proves just enough for Ziva to get a brutal hit in against the blue hound. Her blade slices most of the way through its torso, but it continues to thrash for a while afterward as if the blow was not fatal. Eventually, rather than dying, it folds in on itself and escapes from existence. Colvyn lands an arrow on the final remaining Hound, drawing its ire. The Hound slips away from Guiness and Ziva (doesn't provoke) and swiftly takes a bite out of Colvyn's arm. (21 dmg).

Two tiny arrows sink into the Hound's neck, leaving it teetering and open to Guiness' crushing hammer. Back broken by his swing, the Hound separates into two wriggling halves before folding in on itself and disappearing.

Other than the Hounds, the room is bare except for a series of scorch marks and an "artistically" arranged scattering of giblets in the northeast. To the west stands a fine bronze door with intricate scrollwork and the seven-pointed Thassilonian star inscribed upon it. The door doesn't look visibly locked.

Astrid doesn't spot anything unusual that the others missed. With Guiness and Ziva in the lead, you swing open the tall bronze door to the west. As they swing open, the movement is accompanied by a gong-like ringing that seems to come from the area around the doors.

The vast chamber beyond might have once been a grand audience chamber or lecture hall, but now the place is empty of furniture. Six five-foot-wide pillars, each carved with spiraling patterns of runes, rise up to support the hundred-foot-high ceiling. Spread through the hall in neatly organized stacks and piles are all manner of arcane research materials - candles, books, scrolls, knives, and bundles of powders and ingredients - giving the impression of a vast storeroom or a hoarder's arcane laboratory. At the west end of the room, a steep flight of stairs rises up to a stone door in the wall, just north of a twenty-foot-wide stage. It's upon that stage that you find an immense chair, a table stacked high with more books and scrolls, and a golden birdcage inside which rests the disembodied head of an ogre.

The room has two occupants. On the ground floor stands a rotund creature that appears to be made of metal, with an open furnace for a belly. Your gaze however is drawn to the figure on the stairs. The craggy form there is undeniably a giant, but reaches a height of only 10 feet, small in comparison to his stone giant kin. He's dressed in a short robe adorned in golden medallions and wields a rune-inscribed club. His eyes are a glossy white and their facets glint in the light as he turns his gaze upon you. (Art for both creatures are in the Handouts)

"The ones from Sandpoint arrive. An insignificant town, unaware of the glorious legacy beneath it. And yet, insignificant as your town may be, it still produced capable defenders. I wonder if that is yet another influence of the Hellfire Flume at work...?" Mokmurian's voice is thin and papery as he raises his club to point at you "There will be time to experiment with your little town later. For now, I will dispose of you."

Mokmurian, together with his strange ally, seizes the initiative. The metallic creature opens its fiery maw and spits a wave of flame that sails over Ziva and Guiness' heads to land in a line behind you. Where it lands, a bright violet wall of flame springs up, its heat focused eastward. (Wall of fire formed along the red line on them map, radiates eastward, as usual for wall of fire, it's opaque)

Mokmurian raises his free hand and casts a spell with a few precise strokes of his fingers. A bank of fog springs into existence around the entrance to the room, enveloping Guiness and Ziva. The two of them find the fog unnaturally heavy, as though they were moving through water rather than air. (This is a solid fog, restricting your movement and obscuring sight like a fog cloud. The area is marked with a white circle on the map)

"I don't know what a Hellfire Flume is, but I'm not actually from Sandp--oh, we're fighting," Ziva starts towards the giant, then grunts as the supernaturally thick fog rolls out and hits. Flaring out her burning wings, she makes better headway as the flames eat through some of the solid fogbank. Feeling the wall to her right and following the curve, she pops out of the thick mists and takes cover behind one of the massive pillars.

Guiness charges forward towards the foe, his burning hammer causing the fog to glow but not helping his vision all that much. The strange fog pulls at his arms and legs as he moves, but he does not relent, eventually making slow headway.

Colvyn first reaction us to cast a spell that not only allow him to fly but also gives him a resistance to fire. He then cast another spell on his bow and cross the wall of fire, only to hit the thick fog on the other side. He makes very slow progress, but manages to move forward in the room.

Using fervor to cast shield of wings, that gives him flight speed of 50 and a resistance to fire of 50. After taking fire damage from crossing the wall, he loses one of the wing, reducing his speed and resistance to 40. The second spell is Weapon of Awe on his bow.

"Well that's problematic." Kellek says after taking a long hungry look at the contents of the next room. Kellek floats away from the wall of fire and prepares a spell.

"You'll want to step to the side now." he says to Astrid.

Colvyn plunges through the wall with ease, getting stuck in the fog afterward. Kellek sees the giant and the metal creature only for a couple of seconds before the magical effects block his vision, but its enough time to recognize the giant as a stone giant - similar to those you've seen earlier. The metal creature he recognizes as a scanderig, also known as a forgefiend. These natives of the plane of earth eat metal and mineral ore using their fiery maws. They are capable of gliding through earth and stone with ease, are immune to fire and poison, and resistant to acid and cold. Their most fearsome ability is to regurgitate a short-range wave of deadly molten slag.

Yep Kellek, the wall of fire is floor to ceiling in this room. Not sure exactly how you're thinking of aiming the CoC - if its directly west the cone will overwhelm the wall of fire and still catch Guiness and Colvyn even if Astrid moves.

Didn't know if the cone of cold would penetrate a wall of fire considering if it hit a normal wall or magical wall of say stone it would just stop at the interface the moment it hit as the cone itself is instantaneous and doesn't last beyond the initial blast. That and of course it would look cool. ;)

Cone of cold is a burst.

If that's the case though, and the wall of fire is/seems porous (he would know about the spell as he has it in a book, but maybe not this particular effect), Kellek has forty feet of movement in the air and places himself somewhere where he can clip the wall of fire to make as large an opening as possible.

Edit I've moved him back to where he started the round and then 5-feet further away from the wall to be out of range of constant heat damage. If Astrid moves back behind the big central stone he should be able to hit most of the wall of fire and not hit anyone (too important) realizing of course he doesn't have anything more than maybe sound to use to pin point the position of people beyond the wall of fire.

Astrid backs off, giving Kellek the positioning to fire off a powerful blast of frost. The intense cold overwhelms the wall of fire and extinguishes it! (for simplicity, I'll say it takes the whole wall down)

With Ziva the first out of the solid fog, she takes the brunt of Mokmurian's magic. He snaps his fingers and a trio of fiery orbs appear to float around him for a moment before each firing off a scorching ray. Despite the cover of the stone pillar, all three rays reach their target (Total 36 fire damage) The scanderig raises its stubby arms in the air and inside the solid fog the ground rises upward! A wall of stone, two inches thick, closes off the 10x15ft doorway into the larger chamber. (Wall of stone in blue) Flames begin to writhe within the creature's open maw.

Unable to see any of what is going on outside of the solid fog, Guiness continues to push through as fast as he can (double move). He bursts out of the morass and stumbles forward a few steps, finding himself with Ziva being the only ally in sight. Cursing in dwarven, he calls, "Get in here, guys, it's time to fight!"

Inside the audience hall, Guiness manages to pull free of the fog. Ziva proves more hardy against the barrage of scorching rays than it appeared at first glance. Thanks to the cover of the pillar, she's able to get close to the scanderig before it can put up much a guard. Her blow strikes at a joint, finding the creature's "flesh" more yielding than its metallic appearance might suggest. Colvyn arrives at the edge of the fog, catching a glimpse of the proceedings outside it.

On the other side of the wall of stone, Kellek unleashes a devastating fireball into the fog. The blast eradicates a whole section of the fog cloud, revealing the stone wall beyond. The intense heat even cracks the stone surface - when the heat clears you see the blackened wall has fissures all along its length (Even with the reduction due to damaging an object, that still dealt quite a lot of damage to the wall, enough to get through it's first inch of thickness and then some. It's still standing though.) While this destruction is going on, Astrid prepares herself and approaches.

The scanderig fights back against Ziva. She dodges two of its superheated bites, but one of its clawed hands catches her (Dealing 13 dmg). Up atop the stairs, Mokmurian swiftly traces another pattern of arcane signs and casts a spell of slowing. Ziva is caught within the magic, but Guiness just barely manages to pull free thanks to his dwarven resistance.

Ziva's blade falls upon the scanderig with a blast of holy fire, but while her blade strikes true, the creature exhales a furnace-hot blast of air and parts the flames. Colvyn readies to fire...

The significantly injured scanderig backs away from Ziva, though there's nowhere to go to truly get to safety. Its body shakes for a moment, and then it vomits a boiling wave of metallic slag over Guiness.

Guiness Reflex: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18

He isn't quite quick enough with his feet or his shield and he's swiftly engulfed. (Dealing 49 fire dmg) Thankfully, the slag cools quickly, and after an intense initial searing Guiness is able to smash his way free of the sizzling metal scrap.

Up on the stairs, Mokmurian freely casts once more. Colvyn fires, but finds his arrow rebounding off a magical barrier that shields the giant from harm. Seeing the tiny ratfolk, Mokmurian sneers and directs a bright green magical ray right back.

Where the beam strikes his arm, Colvyn feels a burning sensation as his flesh starts to dissolve. Thankfully, he's able to shake off the magic before it can injure him more seriously. (20 damage, luckily succeeding on the save!)
