Anna takes a long look at Sonny while she weighs the likelihood of being dragged into a futile fight. She finally sighs audibly.

"All right; look. I've got another charge left on my ring. Let me go check it out. I promise, if there's someone that needs rescuing, I'll come back and let you know. Okay?"

She commands her ring to activate, rendering her invisible.

Anna silently moves ahead of the group. The tunnel opens up to a room with damp walls. The walls of this dark cavern display a bewildering variety of obscure and esoteric symbols painted in bright, clashing

Before she can make sense of it, another question pops into her mind. "Why are three ears better than seven?" I recommend we try to leave it here. I vote back to the fish ship.

With Anna's new companion in tow, you make your way to the submersible. When you get to the door the plant creature stops. Once again, Anna hears its voice in her mind. "The obstreperous amberjack finagled the fur off the pulchrous potoo." Once the group is past the magical door, you notice that the creature stayed on the other side and show no sign of following.

You make your way to the ship and slowly make your way to the surface. The travel is uneventful and rather long. Once the ship is at the surface, you are more than happy to open the hatch and breathe the fresh air. The old inventor throw a line to you so that you can latch the two ships together. I wonder if we need to check in with the "Eye" or any other group for guidance. I think we have both the effigy and the mace. Might be a bad idea to bring either with us if they are needed for the Crown.

Exactly, the effigy is now of no consequence, so you can do pretty much what you want with it. i.e. Keep it, throw it away, destroy it, return it to the museum.

It was bad. I fear our minds will be scarred for the rest of our lives, and potentially beyond that. It seems people of the swamps have been giving their daughters to Skum for a very long time. I think it was the only way they could reproduce. But then something "else" came and took over these Skum. And this "else" was from, well, elsewhere. They were strange plant creatures with minds so foreign that their actions made little sense. Their technology was advances to be incomprehensible to us. I think they were studying us and were trying to bring more of their kind in from wherever they came, including one of their gods. I'd rather not go into more detail.

Kimberly, Dear... in a more appropriate setting, do you think you could... fix me?

Yes, it was aweful. A bath sounds better than usual.

The group finish eating with Kimberly, Ananias and Horace joining them. The subjects for the rest of the meal are lighter and more pleasant. Once the meal is done, baths are drawn for those that want one. Horace excuse himself to go studies Tolvan's note of how the submersible test went and if there is place for some improvement. Kimberly and Ananias invite the group to join them at the temple once they are ready.

Refreshed and in some clean clothes, the group cross the town square and make their way to the temple. There, Kimberly is able to heal everyone from their physical wounds. The mental one's however might require years of therapy. Looking at the temple, you find no trace of your previous fights there and of any symbols from the previous occupant. For now it is bare, but you are sure that Kimberly will be able to turn it into a proper temple to Pharasma.

Free from any prying ears, you are able to plan your next move.

Book 4 is officially over. Feel free to done more roleplay and plan where to go from here in the discussion thread. You still have two item to identify, the mace and the effigy. The main lead that you have point back to Caliphas. Getting there should be rather easy with Tolvan's teleportation magic.

Sonny approaches Tolvan and says "I am no expert in magical items but if you need any assistance I will give you what I can. My knowledge isn't great but there is a small chance I might know something you don't especially if it is of a religious nature and I can cast a spell that will help you some."

Offering to aid another and cast guidance.

Onwards to Book 5! Awesome! Congratulations, everyone! Special shout-out to Rannik for keeping up the GM duties!

Feeling much better after a meal and hot bath, Anna puts her feet up on the table while sipping a glass of wine. Her mind starts spinning about what their next move is, and what to do about the mace in their possession.

"All right. We've got something valuable that A.A. wants. Way I see it, we treat this like a successful heist, but we got something that's too hot to just fence. We usually have two options: We hide the thing, or we keep the thing and hide ourselves.

"The advantage of hiding it is, that even if A.A. figures out where we are, he's not going to be able to slip in and steal it from us. (I'm going to leave out the part where it also prevents one of our crew from taking it and bailing.) The problem is, it's not with us anymore. If A.A.'s got some serious magic that lets him figure out where it is or if he's smart enough to guess where we hid it, he can go get it and we can't stop him."

She empties her glass and pours herself another. "A variant of that is giving it to someone else for safekeeping. We don't have it, and it's better protected than if it's just hidden somewhere. Same problem, though, is that if he finds out where it is, our friends are in danger.

"The other option is to hang on to it and lay low. We go someplace far away -- probably outside Ustilav, and... pretty much that's it. Wait until the heat's off." She frowns as she thinks about that more. "No idea how long that'll take, though."
