I don't think we're being sycophantic here - the cult was pretty far gone.

Actual worship of Khorne, not some minor heresy. A huge mutant, and probably some sabotage as well - otherwise, the incredible cascade of mishaps is hard to really explain.

Letting the "lowly" cultists go might work in a more heroic setting (to some degree), but in 40k... not feeling it that much.

I know the campaign setting is harsh... Murder, execution, genocide just isn't my thing. Just sayin... And hoping it's not the focus of the campaign.

I'd hardly expect such encounters to be the focus of a Rogue Trader campaign. Dark Heresy, or Deathwatch, certainly, but I would expect this particular game to more closely focus on the travels, exploration and exploitation involved.

And, please, please , please don't think it was a "tell people how to play their characters"... was just surprised.

And, I take the "rogue" part seriously! I'd almost expect us each to be part rogue in our own way (with respect to our own path/peers). But, maybe that's just me.
