Round 8

Unassailed for the moment Laillei pulls out a long rope from the treasure hoard.

@GM:
I think picking it up takes up her standard action, but if not she'll use that one for 'Ready Action': "Whenever anything scary comes near her - or Bob pops up again - command rope to entangle them"

Female Dhampir Barbarian/1

Seeing the swift ninja disappear again, Primthaimagon whines sarcastically, "Ooh, why do you have to be such a tease?"

Pulling her hell-axe back, she once again tears at the ogre before her, maniacal all the while.

Attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17
Damage: 1d12 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8

Lol I've been forgetting her BAB all this time. +2 for flanking, assuming the ninja was still in position for Prim's attack. Otherwise it's just +5

The ogre surrounded and flanked gets hit in the back by Bob, cries out in a wail of pain and death, but Prim doesn't give it the satisfaction of a glorious death. The ax bites into the flesh of the ogre and it seems to crystallize and shatter. The ogre completely turns to dust and falls to a heap on the ground.

Bob:
The sneak attack damage dropped the ogre as you landed a critical strike in a vital area. Prim's ax seemed to do something even more sinister. It seems as though it's life force was drained away. You think it might be good to steer clear of that ax if possible.

Prim:
The last of the life force of the ogre is drained by the ax and you feel a surge of power renewing and bolstering your health. temp hp: 4d4 ⇒ (3, 2, 2, 2) = 9 This does not stack with what you have already, but if it's better you can take the best number. And of course, these temp hp are lost first before you take damage.

Laillei:
Picking up the rope is only a move, so you can ready to use it whenever they make a move for you.

Now it seems that besides a few paltry skeletons and zombies the real threat is each other. The goblins have regrouped to the south, one skeleton goes searching for whatever he was slashing at. The other skeleton takes a swipe at Prim unaware of the danger to its unlife. attack: 1d20 ⇒ 10, damage: 1d6 ⇒ 5

Round 9 Go.
Bob 17
Prim 11
Laillei 9
ogre 8
Skellies 6
goblins 1

Female Dhampir Barbarian/1

Spoiler:

Lol I'm going to wait until Bob makes his move, in case Prim suffers his wakisashis. She's at 9 temp HP, 13/14HP.

Female Dhampir Barbarian/1

Hope everyone had a happy new year! Is everyone still around? :) I'll go ahead and take my turn if you can't get ahold of Bob :p

OK, I've given Bob enough time. Bob takes the full defense action stealthed somewhere invisibly. Go ahead and everyone else take your actions. Bob can act again next round.

Female Dhampir Barbarian/1

Eyeing the skeleton next to her, she remembers that her axe would only serve to heal it and decides to advance in the goblins instead, shouting, "I gave you strength - use it! Get the mortals!" Prim then runs fifteen feet over to the trio takes a swing at the one leftmost of the group, sneering all the while.

Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18
Damage: 1d12 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9

Move action: two squares down, one diagonal to the left

hp 20/20 | AC 15 13 12 | Fort +2 Ref +4 Will +3 | CMD 14 | Perception +8; low-light vision

Curses! Laillei swears under her breath, seeing as the axe-berzerker seems to abandon the battle with the skeletons. She had hoped that the invisible stalker would have made his presence known by now, so that she could play them out against eachother. Instead, I'm left with these mindless things ...

To Hit: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5

She quickly circles the treasure pile to put it between herself and one of the skeletons, while telekinetically flinging a projectile made out of a ball of coins at the other skeleton. Sadly, the ball disintegrates into a harmless rain of pennies halfway trough its trajectory. Laillei curses again, this time over her poor choice of ammunition.

Actions: Move action to move, Standard action to cast Telekinetic Projectile at the rightmost skeleton

The golbin turns to a pile of dust, like so many other things seem to have been doing.

One skeleton makes it over to Laillei and takes a swing. attack: 1d20 ⇒ 14, damage: 1d6 ⇒ 2

The two goblins attack Prim.
attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20, damage: 1d4 ⇒ 1
attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9, damage: 1d4 ⇒ 3

The obilesk flashes yet again...

Laillei:
You feel a weight around your neck. It's warm, almost hot. You look down and see a golden necklace with three glowing orange beads attached, one slightly larger than the others. They swirl in a way reminiscent of alchemist's fire. The beads seem easily detachable. What ever could they be?

Prim:
You feel a weight around your neck. It's warm, almost hot. You look down and see a golden necklace with three glowing orange beads attached, one slightly larger than the others. They swirl in a way reminiscent of alchemist's fire. The beads seem easily detachable. What ever could they be?

Bob:

Go ahead and take your actions for the round. If Bob shows up again, I'll give you fair warning before he smokes you from the shadows.

Round 9 Go.
Bob 17
Prim 11
Laillei 9
Skellies 6
goblins 1

hp 20/20 | AC 15 13 12 | Fort +2 Ref +4 Will +3 | CMD 14 | Perception +8; low-light vision

Stumbling backwards Laillei barely dodges the skeletons swipe when ...

@GM:
Huh?

Know(Arcana)/Spellcraft: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 20

The odds of this being a Necklace of Fireballs? :P

WEAL

Female Dhampir Barbarian/1

Though she managed to dodge one of the attacks, the other goblin caught her setting her to 8 temporary HP. Looking between the two goblins, she runs a finger across her new necklace before deciding to give it a try. She grabs one of the beads and throws it to the goblin that hit her for 1 damage, hoping that the bead won't make the goblin transform into a dragon or something.

I assume it's a move to remove it then a standard to throw it.

Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6

I'll let you roll the damage since I'm unsure of the full potential of the item :p Her strength and dexterity mod are +3 though, if it even matters.
Edit: Lmfao Poor Prim. She's obviously more deadly with the axe xD

It's only a standard action to pluck and throw, so you may take a move action if you want to. I'll wait.

Female Dhampir Barbarian/1

Sure, I'll have her run 8 squares to the left then :)

The goblins take a swipe at you as you move.
Attack: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5, damage: 1d4 ⇒ 1
Attack: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3, damage: 1d4 ⇒ 2

You let loose the bead. It flies through the air and detonates near one of the goblins. They both shriek as flames consume them.
damage: 3d6 ⇒ (6, 3, 5) = 14

They try to evade, but it is of no use. They are destroyed.

hp 20/20 | AC 15 13 12 | Fort +2 Ref +4 Will +3 | CMD 14 | Perception +8; low-light vision

"Wait!" Laillei shouts at the axe-murderer still blissfully far away. Momentarily she steps out of the skeletons reach, dropping her rope and drawing the necklace instead. "Let us cooperate; we need to find the vanishing one and not kingmake him. If we annihilate eachother, he will win..."

@GM:
Of course, *if* she helps me, she might choose to go in melee with our little hider. And then ... BOOM!

Actions: 5-foot step away from skelly, free: drop rope, (move: draw necklace), standard ready action

Ready Action: Throw Big Bead at Prim if she says declines the offer or moves to attack. Else throw small bead behind skeleton (so that it burns the skelly but hopefully not Laillei. Trying to gauge explosion size based on Prim's throw)

Sense Motive @Prim: 1d20 ⇒ 2 It is an attempt, at least : )

Female Dhampir Barbarian/1

Snarling a tad as the elf called out to Prim, she considered her words for a moment.

Maybe she could be of use to me.. Maybe she'll end up sticking me in the back. I won't take my eyes off her, but with her aid I have a better chance of draining the sweet blood from the human's neck..

Through narrowed eyes, the Dhampir calls back, "Do not try and deceive me, or you'll be my next snack! I will partner with you and allow you to live as long as you do not step out of line, understood??"

Running over to the elf, Prim stands 10 feet to the left of the skeleton that was closer to her. Though she is careful of their allegiance, she is ready to offer her aid to ensure victory.

A shared victory is better than a shared defeat..

With her fists raised and her hell-axe across her back, she bares her fangs to show that she is ready to put the dead back down.

Double move action to run 80 feet and ending with one square between her and the bottom-most skeleton. Should I roll a Sense Motive check or is Lally being sincere enough that Prim picks up on it? O: Prim's biggest desire from this event is to make it out with a belly full of fresh Human blood and her new favourite weapon xD

An uneasy alliance...interesting. I can't post much now. I'll have something for you this evening.

Female Dhampir Barbarian/1

That's fine! :) I'll be waiting!

Prim, Laillei is under the impression that you are willing to work together, this round.

Prim races over toward the skeleton, and Laillei throws a bead. It goes sailing through the air and explodes, causing a good sized fireball. 3d6 ⇒ (6, 2, 5) = 13 Both skeletons drop in flames, flames that narrowly miss Prim, yet miss.

It seems there are no more enemies left Except for Bob, but I have not heard anything from him for a while now. The priests are checking to make sure he didn't run off with their sword.

I wonder what would happen if you approach the obelisk (wink, wink). There is also a large pile of magical treasure.

Ready...fight
Prim first, then Laillei.

Female Dhampir Barbarian/1

Eyeing the obelisk before them, it seems to beckon her to approach. With a hard swallow, Prim begins to approach the fickle monolith and calls out to Laillei as she passes.

"Grab us some healing potions and other useful gear from the pile, will you? I have a feeling the bastard is not going down easily once we find him!"

Double move action: 11 squares straight up and 1 to the right to be adjacent to the left side of the obelisk. Prim doesn't currently feel that Lally is threatening their truce - she is more focused on her bloodlust than anything else. :)

hp 20/20 | AC 15 13 12 | Fort +2 Ref +4 Will +3 | CMD 14 | Perception +8; low-light vision

Yes, potions ..." Laillei agrees and eyes the pool of loot. In fact, she did see a potion earlier ... And she tries to return to it. But first she sheaths her sword (she doubts she could win with it against either of the two others left!) and picks up the rope again.

@GM:
That delicious potion of See Invisibility might be handy : )

But if we want to simply disregard Bob, that is fine too.

Laillei, you are able to find the see invisibility potion. There are several other magical objects around. Perception check to find something specific, or I can just roll randomly on a table if you want to examine the first thing you find.

The obelisk causes the ground to shudder slightly as Prim approaches. You can almost hear it calling to you, "Reach out and touch me" it seems to say wordlessly.

You hear a scuffle towards the east. When you look, you see Bob laying face down in the dirt. Priests come to carry him away. Apparently, he tried to escape the arena with the sword he had pilfered from the heap.

Next round, go

Female Dhampir Barbarian/1

The closer that Prim gets to the obelisk, the less she even remembers about Bob. All she seems to focus on right now is how beautifully touchable the pillar before is. Slowly reaching out a hand, she gently places a palm against its stone surface, oblivious to any consequences that may come from being drawn to such a magically fickle item.

The fiends have given me such a great axe.. What do you have to offer me, lovely obelisk? She asks in the back of her mind.

As Prim touches the stone, the floor around her begins to heat and turn red. Within a few seconds, the dirt floor has become a roiling pit of lava! "Touch me again", it becokons "and unleash my chaos".

Female Dhampir Barbarian/1

As the heat of the lava warms the air around her, the barbarian smiles fiendishly and growls, "Chaos reigns!"

With a psychopathic laugh, Prim thrusts her other hand against the obelisk and stands firmly as she pushes against it, welcoming its chaotic embrace.

hp 20/20 | AC 15 13 12 | Fort +2 Ref +4 Will +3 | CMD 14 | Perception +8; low-light vision

Clambering up on the pile of treasure, Laillei is very keen on avoiding the lava. With rope in hand, she glances to the side and the KO'd Bob. It would seem as if there are only two of us now...

I am guessing something bad is going to happen (to me or maybe everyone? )from Prim getting all touchey with the obelisk. I'm intrigued as to see *what* and it may affect my action! Otherwise ...:

@Gm:
I think I'd like to ready an action to throw the rope on Prim when she moves, unless additional foes/complications sets in. In which case I'll throw fire beads at them instead :D

As Prim touches the stone again, the lava churns. Red hot swarms of spiders emerge from the lava and begin an outward march.

They are moving at a rate of 5ft/round, out and away from the lava.

Female Dhampir Barbarian/1

Lol Looks like Prim is about to f+~* up the entire audience too at this rate xD

As she surveyed the scene around her, Prim couldn't help but sneer with delight, thinking to herself, Perhaps magic isn't so bad after all! I may have to learn a couple of tricks at this rate..

Full round action to continue clinging to the obelisk and channeling the its chaotic magic

hp 20/20 | AC 15 13 12 | Fort +2 Ref +4 Will +3 | CMD 14 | Perception +8; low-light vision

Spiders ... Laillei looks upon the creepy crawly things with disgust. She plucks the other small bead and flings it at the swarm closest to her.

It *seems* as if the best course of action for either of us to just throw the big bead at eachother ... But I'm a bit curious as to see what the obelisk does (and it would feel sorta bad to backstab Prim, even if that is what we are supposed to do :P)

The spiders continue to pour out of the lava. They don't seem to be crawling up into the stands. It seems the priests have taken some precautions. The bead seem ineffective against them. They did, after all, just emerge from lava. Lightning begins striking all around the battlefield. You can see the priests hurrying away with Bob through a door, closing it behind them.

If you don't want to fight you could always eat poisonous berries together in a act of defiant love...

hp 20/20 | AC 15 13 12 | Fort +2 Ref +4 Will +3 | CMD 14 | Perception +8; low-light vision

*That* won't be nececery. My senses of fair play extend only so far :P

Female Dhampir Barbarian/1

Prim seems happily lost in bliss as the chaotic energy uses her as a conduit.

"Isn't it beautiful, elf? This wonderful, destructive force of power.. Magic is truly a wonderful thing when it's mixed with chaos!!"

Prim has no intention of harming Laillei since she has not acted hostile against Prim yet, though the effects of her channeling the magic may end up harming Laillei - if Lally doesn't wish to harm her fair-weather comrade, she may have to get creative :p I'm curious to see how this all plays out and won't take it personally if Laillei decides taking Prim out will be the best course of action ;p Full-round action to continue channeling

I didn't see any actions in there. Laillei, did you want to take any actions this round?

hp 20/20 | AC 15 13 12 | Fort +2 Ref +4 Will +3 | CMD 14 | Perception +8; low-light vision

Yeah, to her (and mine) understanding, one of us have to faint for the other to win. And the two threats left are the obelisk and Prim, both conveniently located just next to each other ...

And I don't think we are ready to go full hunger-games yet : )

"Magic... it truly awesome." Laillei notes from her vantage point ontop of the pile of loot. "And there seems to be time for an awesome display of it!"

With a slow dramatic sweep, she plucked the last bead of the necklace. Some parts of her balked at it, but she couldn't help but provide Prim some sort of warning. I am a destroyer, deceiver and mindbender, but not a backstabber!

With a quick salute she flung the large bead at Prim and the obelisk.

Standard action throw large bead at Prim + Obelisk. Let's see what defences it has : )

Female Dhampir Barbarian/1

Seeing the Laillei throwing the destructive bead towards her, Prim seems to snap to her senses for a moment now realizing that her well-being is in danger.

What.. what am I doing? I'm about to die!!

The barbarian shook her head clear of the chaotic fog the obelisk seemed to wrap around her mind and released her grasp on the structure. Quickly turning to her side, she runs to the edge of the ground around her and sees the lava surrounding. With no other options in sight, Prim grabs the handle of her axe and clings to it, closing her eyes to shield her vision of the bead's impact.

Let's see what happens now that she's let go - this is getting so dramatic! :D Move action + full defense action. Temp AC 19, though I doubt it matters xD

A fireball grows from the bead as it hits, though somehow, when surrounded by lava, fireballs don't seem as threatening. Regardless, it still burns.

fire damage: 5d6 ⇒ (5, 3, 6, 1, 3) = 18 ref save of 14 for half

Are you dead?
Next round: Go

Female Dhampir Barbarian/1

As the flames grow around her, Prim tries to duck away from the heat.

Reflex: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10

...but she is unable to avoid them with her limited area to move.

Minus 8 temporary HP, minus 10 HP, Prim is left with 3HP remaining! O:

Rising from her position and trying to shake off the pain of the burns, the Dhampir begins snarling as she stares towards the Elf and growls, "What were you thinking?? I though we were had a truce??"

Prim can feel the rage boiling up inside of her as enters her rage! She wants to close the distance between her and Laillei - who she feels betrayed her - and she begins looking around trying to figure out how to get the lava to subside, and concludes that the obelisk is the only thing that can fix it.

Try to poison my mind with your magic?? You're finished! She thinks to herself as she takes a swing at the obelisk with her hell-axe.

Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17
Damage: 1d12 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15

Rage makes her Strength at 21 and Constitution at 18 for the next 6 rounds. HP will return to 3 after that, but her Rage gives her a +2/hit dice (making it 5); her AC is at 13 for the duration of her rage as well.

The obelisk sputters and flames jet from the top in all directions. Another flash and the obelisk 1d100 ⇒ 49 sends out a wave of energy across the battlefield. Elementals spring up across the ground all over the arena. 1d100 ⇒ 1 Prim, you are drained of all color, and now appear pale and monochrome. 1d100 ⇒ 44 Finally, everyone is affected by a harm spell of CL 3 (Lucky Dhampir, I thought I was going to kill you both off). You each take 30 points of negative energy damage. Laillei is slain instantly. Prim heals for 30 points.

Priests flood into the area, dispatch the remaining elementals. Flashes of cold erupt from several hands, and the spiders are dispatched. A group of priests begin incantations over the obelisk and slowly the lava cools and hardens. Raise dead is cast on Laillei. Bob is walked out from some back room for the final award ceremony. Each of you are given your purse of 1000 gold coins to the adoration of the crowd. Prim, the victor is presented with an additional purse of 5000 gold pieces, and an ornate golden sword worth 300gp. And the other contestants are given a commemorative participation medal worth 3gp. There is much cheering an congratulations.

Later, in the back offices, the bean counters exact their fees. "Each of you purchased the life insurance. That will be 200gp. Prim, you caused severe damage to the obelisk during your final victory. The total for damages comes to 4972gp. That has also been extracted from you winnings. The total payout comes to 828gp. You of course may keep your victors sword, but you will be searched to ensure you have not tried to smuggle out any other sacred artifacts. Thank you for your participation in our tournament."

Prim, you should walk away with 828gp plus a golden sword worth 300gp. Laillei, you should walk away with 800gp, a medal worth 3 gp, plus your fully restored health. I hope you enjoyed the ride. It's too bad we lost one along the way. Your characters will now level up. Feel free to contact other players in the main thread to get deals on crafting. The rate of encounters has been a bit slow, but they do happen, so check back from time to time for new ones. Also, the character I play here is Bartholomew, so feel free to interact in the tavern. He's a bit unpredictable though, so fair warning. I hope you had fun. I like to use this group to try out weird encounters. I've been on a bit of a PvP kick lately, but the next one will be different. I did one a while back that involved combat during freefall. Anyway, I appreciate you both sticking with the story. I know I had a good time. Take care.

Female Dhampir Barbarian/1

Oh, yes! I've had a great time indeed! xD I think it's funny that Negative Energy Affinity was ultimately why Prim won. I know I'll be on board for your next campaign too :) I'll adjust my Dhampir's stuff to accomodate for her new level, maybe buy her some gear, then be ready for more action. What type of sword is it? Does it have any enchantments or +1's or anything like that? Or is it just really purdy? :) Being of Chelaxian descent from her mother's side, she'll be thrilled to have such a overly gaudy sword regardless xD And is the pale effect permanent? xD

Having won in the end, she won't hold anything against Laillei.. for now ;P

It's a short sword. Nothing special, more of a symbolic trophy for victory than anything else. Proof of your victory should a dispute arise in a tavern some evening.

I wish the pale effect is permanent. No, it wears off after a few hours.

Female Dhampir Barbarian/1

And a cherished trophy it shall be! xD And could you imagine? She'd already be somewhat pale for being a Dhampir. Any more pale and she's almost transparent! xD
