Hi All,

I am looking to run the Prophecies of the Dragon module using the Wheel of Time RPG. It's been some time since this system was released but I am hoping to get a few interested parties in this. I am looking to have between 4-6 players, the final number depending on how many interested people apply and the concepts that are submitted.

Just to put this out there, I am an experienced gamer on both sides of the screen but this will be my first time running a PbP on these specific forums. I've run and played games on other sites that went well enough but I justed wanted people to know ahead of time.

Info to know when posting an application:

1) I am a HUGE Wheel of Time fan. I wanted this said so you're not surprised by my other notes for the game below.

2) I will be running this using the old Wheel of Time 3.5 RPG book. This will not be a conversion to Pathfinder or 4E or any other system. This will be with the original system designed from the novels. If you don't have the book, then I'm sorry. This is simply because I was very happy with the rules they came up with and it also saves me a TON of work having to update things and translate them. I know there are a bunch of fan sites with more optional rules for the system but I won't be using those, for the same reason as I'm not converting, it's just easier for me. I hope this doesn't put anyone off the game but I just want people to know.

3) I am looking for ideally a 1 post per day minimum from people Mon-Fri but I totally understand that real life is rough and I will already admit planning on being guilty of missing a day from time to time. This is especially for roleplaying stuff and if you're busy for a day or two, no biggie, you're just quietly brooding when people are talking, or something like that. It's easy to work around if others are helping to carry the conversation. During combat however I will be a little more insistent on the 1/day frequency as it really does make it easier for the group as a whole.

4) The Prophecies of the Dragon module is set during the timeline of the first 6 novels, the story basically running parellel to the main characters of the novels. This is important to note as it does kind of dictate certain aspects of the game and character concept. There will be no Seanchan characters allowed. Aiel characters will need a good backstory explanation. Things of this nature. I will of course answer any questions people have about character ideas. This ultimately relates to the last and key point.

5) This is a Wheel of Time game and I will require people to be familiar and comfortable with the series. This isn't to say that you have to quote specific lines from chapters and it's not designed to limit your roleplaying options. This is being put out there so people understand that the game will be firmly set in the WoT world. A perfect example of this which fans of the series will understand: If you play a male channeler character, there will be roleplaying consequences for this. NPC's will most likely hate or fear you. Maybe both, maybe try to kill you. This is a risk you face, at least in the beginning. I want people familiar to the setting so that they're not surprised by this kind of issue or others like it. (NOTE: Other PC's are of course exempt from this kind of issue unless specifically roleplayed by the individual player. As in games where certain character concepts aka necromancers etc can create tension, my default assumption is that the PC has proved his worth to the party enough for them to overlook the undesirable trait of the other member.)

Phew that was a lot info to swallow. If you've read all the above and aren't put off and are still interested in playing in this game, then here we go.

- Sumbit a character concept/backstory. The more detail the better, but for sure I am looking for at least a small display of your WoT knowledge either in your backstory or character build ideas.

- We'll be using the standard <4d6> and dropping the lowest for ability score generation. Feel free to use the in post dice rolling mechanic for ability rolls. Max HP to start.

- You do not need to submit your actual character build/mechanics when applying, you may wait till you are accepted if you'd like. There will be no preference shown to people who submit both instead of just the backstory. Looking for concept initially.

Thanks for showing an interest and I hope to be playing with some of you very soon.

I am a big fan of The Wheel of Time myself and would be greatly excited about playing. I have the books and have never been able to find a game to use them. I will put a concept together tonight and post it then.

Sounds good, look forward to seeing what you come up with!

I have the books and I am not only a fan of the novels, but also Serbian translator of the Wheel of Time. I am working on Knife of Dreams as we speak. Obviously, I would love to play, although I would prefer some kind of conversion to Pathfinder.

Rolling for stats a bit later...

Glad to see the interest and I look forward to seeing your concept. At this point, I'm still not planning on doing a conversion into Pathfinder.

That being said, I might be tweaking the skills/feats stuff because it is a bit simpler with the Pathfinder style updates. For example, Spot and Listen becoming Perception, that kind of thing. Doing that would add a little extra power to the PC's but I've overall got no problem with that. But overall large mechanics, especially the channeling mechanics, will remain the same as they are in the WoT RPG book.

Dark Archive

When I said "conversion", I mostly meant using Pathfinder skills and feats, although I would keep Ambidexterity, perhaps in the form of trait instead of feat. And I would try to loose the dead levels. Channeling is good as is.

4d6 ⇒ (6, 5, 2, 1) = 14

4d6 ⇒ (4, 3, 2, 6) = 15

4d6 ⇒ (5, 5, 6, 6) = 22

4d6 ⇒ (5, 3, 6, 3) = 17

4d6 ⇒ (1, 6, 5, 6) = 18

4d6 ⇒ (3, 6, 6, 4) = 19

So,

13
13
17
14
17
16

Pathfinder Lost Omens Subscriber

OK. Let's give the old Stat rolling a try.

4d6 ⇒ (2, 5, 5, 3) = 15
4d6 ⇒ (6, 2, 6, 1) = 15
4d6 ⇒ (3, 2, 6, 1) = 12
4d6 ⇒ (4, 4, 2, 6) = 16
4d6 ⇒ (3, 3, 4, 2) = 12
4d6 ⇒ (2, 4, 3, 3) = 12

So 13, 14, 11, 14, 10, 10

Good no negatives.

Skill and Feat updates for Wheel of Time. Channeler skills and feats, by their nature, will be unchanged.

Skills:
Pathfinder had the right idea about adjusting skill types to better stream line things and allow for more customization. The following adjustments will be in effect, most of which are combining skills into a singular type. Most of these will be pretty obvious if you've played Pathfinder and most of these will work roughly the same way as in Pathfinder, at least where applicable. I've kept some of the original skills from WoT cause I like the feel of them. Everything else about the skills as far as ranks, class skill points, and class vs cross class is still the same.

Balance, Jump, and Tumble = Acrobatics
Animal Empathy is part of Handle Animal
Decipher Script, Forgery, and Speak Language = Linguistics
Open Lock is part of Disable Device
Gather Information is part of Diplomacy
Hide and Move Silently = Stealth
Search, Spot, and Listen = Perception
Intuit Direction and Wilderness Lore = Survival
Pick Pocket and Use Rope = Sleight of Hand

For a class's skill list, if it had any one of the originals listed above consider it to have the new version instead. So if the class had Spot then it now has Perception, if it had Jump then it now has Acrobatics. There is no bonus if it had multiple skills that were combined like Balance and Jump.

So the new skill list is:
Acrobatics
Appraise
Bluff
Climb
Concentration
Craft
Diplomacy
Disable Device
Disguise
Escape Artist
Handle Animal
Heal
Innuendo
Intimidate
Knowledge
Linguistics
Perception
Perform
Pick Pocket
Profession
Read Lips
Ride
Sense Motive
Sleight of Hand
Stealth
Survival
Swim

Feats:
I'm not changing anything about the specific Feats themselves for now but I will be using the Pathfinder feat progression so 1 at every odd level (1, 3, 5, etc).

Let me know if you have any questions or if I forgot something in my skills section but otherwise I hope this makes sense and allows people to build their characters.

I was thinking Woodsman/Armsman, but I have just got an idea that is pretty much out there, so I'll need your opinion.

How about I play twins? One of them can be Woodsman/Armsman going for Warder/Blademaster, and the other can be Wilder going for Asha'man. One of the brothers can serve the other one as Warder later in the game. What do you think?

I like the idea of this and I am all about playing interesting and different characters. This sounds fine with me, put a concept story together for them and let me take a look.

4d6 ⇒ (4, 2, 6, 2) = 14=12
4d6 ⇒ (2, 5, 5, 4) = 16=14
4d6 ⇒ (2, 4, 2, 4) = 12=10
4d6 ⇒ (1, 1, 5, 6) = 13=12
4d6 ⇒ (4, 3, 6, 4) = 17=14
4d6 ⇒ (4, 4, 5, 4) = 17=13

YES YES YES! I am definitely down for this. I am going to present Damien, a 16 year old wilder from Saldea. He will be going towards Asha'man when the story gets there. He will be fleeing from persecution and hiding his powers as much as possible. I will get the full concept and character up later tonight.

Really hope I make it in!

Forgot stat rolls

4d6 ⇒ (2, 1, 5, 5) = 134d6 ⇒ (3, 4, 2, 5) = 144d6 ⇒ (6, 6, 6, 4) = 224d6 ⇒ (1, 5, 1, 3) = 104d6 ⇒ (4, 2, 5, 1) = 124d6 ⇒ (5, 4, 1, 3) = 13

12, 12, 18, 9, 11, 12 cool I can work with that.

OK. I will probably make them Borderlanders. I need to find my World of Wheel of Time.

You can be my Warder :) I was going for a Borderlander too, distant relation to Davram Bashere.

I think that I'm gonna go with twins idea. One will serve as Warder to other one. I'm gonna make them Malkieri, who hero-worship Lan, raised in Arafel most probably.

Sounds good, Just figured I'd throw it out there. :)

I also have an idea for a female wilder/initiate. She is one of the Tuatha'on. She is 15 and has dreamed of going to the white tower her whole life, even though her family practices the way of the leaf, she left to be tested against her parents will and as such has been disowned. She knows little of the world of cities and such seeing as the People tend to avoid them. Naive but determined, she is loyal to those she considers friends to a fault. She deplores violence but will not hesitate since she has left to defend herself and her friends if the need should arise. She no longer follows the way of the leaf herself, thinking it to be impractical and unrealistic since she has left.

I'm thinking Ebou Dari, Initiate. heading towards Aes Sedai

So it looks like we've got some interest in the game which is awesome. I'm gonna keep submissions open until Friday night. After that I'll have decisions made and get info out to people and hopefully we can start right up either this weekend or Monday at the latest.

Just FYI, there are a couple of additional options/rules at the end of the Prophecies of the Dragon book, mainly for channelers, that I will be typing and posting over the next couple of days. Nothing huge that would impact character concept or design, but things like how to gauge another channeler's strength in the power, how to counter weaves, and 1 or 2 new weaves.

I'll get them up as I can but I just wanted people to be aware, especially with the rules for countering and such not being in the core book, that it is possible.

I'm dotting to show interest and will have time tomorrow to throw up a concept. Would anyone be interested in having our characters tie together? I was thinking of playing a character that heads in the direction of Warder.

Hey Steven Good to see you on here. I've got the book if you need to borrow it.

” I am Byorin Malahan, fourth son of Tiliany Malahan of House Dunkan, twelfth in line to the Lion’s Throne. What does that mean you ask? Nothing, absolutely nothing for me. I could be a low ranking officer in the Queen’s Guard but where is the fun in that?
I grew up with my nursemaid telling me stories of the Hunters of the Horn, and now they have called for a Hunt! Can you believe it! It is as if it were my destiny to be part of the hunt. My mother has funded my search, more to get me out of here house I image than a true belief that I will find The Horn, but none the less here I am. Burn me, I know The Wheel has chosen me to find the horn!”

Thanks! WoT RPG was actually the first table-top RPG I ever played, though the game only lasted for about three sessions.

You guys definitely have a lurker. If i had time, I'd be all over this.

I'd like to apply with...

Name- Lain of the Iron Mountain Sept of the Taardad Aiel.
Class- Algai'd'Siswai.
Society- Stone Dog.
Age- 23

Height- 6ft 6.
Weight- 220lbs.
Hair Color- Red.
Eye Color- Ice Blue.

Backstory-

A Stone Dog from the age he was deemed old enough to run with the Spears, Lain knows nothing about retreat. Born the son of a Blacksmith, Lain spent his earlier years in the heat of the forge, watching his father shape spear heads and belt knives for the Algai'd'Siswai. As every young child, he dreamed to one day be accepted in to one of the Warrior Societies. He grew up strong and fast, but stubborn, as is the way of almost all young, un-blooded males. On the eve of his 15th Nameday, he approached the Stone Dog Society, to be welcomed with open arms; after an extremely intensive trial of course.

He learned the use of his weapons well, and it was not long till he found himself part of a band of other young Spears, all destined for the Blight, all seeking to be the one to fell Sight Blinder.

What happened in the Blight? He does not speak of it. He returned alone, his mood sombre, his ambition and zeal crushed, bearing a large ragged scar upon his back. The return shook him, cast him loose. He rarely accompanied his Spear Brothers on Raids, or traded insults with the Maidens, electing instead for solitary guard postings and watches.

When the hunt for the Car'a'carn was announced, he turned away, seeking solitude. A Wise One, by the name of Keelana, however, had other ideas. Seeking him out, she berated and hounded him to the very edge of the Three Fold Land, where upon she cast him out, telling him it was his destiny to seek the Car'a'carn, that he must travel to the Wetlands, the Dreams had spoken. It was for this reason that Lain found himself one of the last Spears to leave. And for this reason that he found himself alone in a band of Far Dareis Mai.

Cursing his ill luck, he set forth, to search for the Car'a'carn, enduring the taunts and insults of the Maidens, as best a man could.

'Bloody Maidens. Bloody Wise Ones. Light blasted women!'

4d6 ⇒ (1, 4, 4, 3) = 12-10
4d6 ⇒ (3, 1, 4, 2) = 10-9
4d6 ⇒ (4, 5, 5, 4) = 18-14
4d6 ⇒ (5, 4, 5, 5) = 19-15
4d6 ⇒ (4, 4, 5, 1) = 14-13
4d6 ⇒ (6, 5, 5, 1) = 17-16

So...

Sorry, missed that one in the list. Updated.

I've always wanted to play in the WoT. So I'm definitely intrigued. I'm going to roll and see if a character concept comes to mind.

Dice Rolls:

4d6 ⇒ (4, 3, 6, 5) = 18 --> 15
4d6 ⇒ (6, 3, 2, 5) = 16 --> 14
4d6 ⇒ (2, 2, 2, 2) = 8 --> 6
4d6 ⇒ (1, 6, 4, 3) = 14 --> 13
4d6 ⇒ (3, 6, 6, 3) = 18 --> 15
4d6 ⇒ (3, 1, 4, 2) = 10 --> 9

Ouch. Hmmm. I'll give it some thought and let you know. I've got to dig up my WoT Player's Handbook...it's been years since I last cracked it open.

I always thought the WoT rpg looked great, but none of my friends were into the books enough to try it. Good luck, guys! I'll definitely be reading along!

imimrtl wrote:

That'd be great!

Dice Rolls:

4d6 ⇒ (6, 3, 3, 5) = 17 - 14
4d6 ⇒ (4, 3, 6, 6) = 19 - 16
4d6 ⇒ (4, 2, 5, 2) = 13 - 11
4d6 ⇒ (6, 5, 1, 3) = 15 - 14
4d6 ⇒ (3, 4, 1, 6) = 14 - 14
4d6 ⇒ (1, 5, 6, 5) = 17 - 16

16, 16, 14, 14, 14, 11.

That would make a very fine warder, I think! I'll start working on a concept now.

Didn't mean to post as DM Duke before. Whoops!

Awesome! Let me know what you come up with and we can tie ourselves together should we get selected. Soooo excited for this game. I have been wanting to play Wheel of Time for years!

On a completely unrelated to anything note, I'm watching the original Conan the Barbarian with Ahh-nold on AMC and I always am amazed by how much I love this movie, no matter how many times I see it.

Can you tell I have too much time on my hands to post on these boards? ;-)

Okay, this is a preliminary backstory. Would you be able to provide us with an idea of where we will be starting? It'll help us to flesh out our background.

Jed al'Raes
Jed grew up on a farm near Baerlon and spent most of his time tending sheep. But all his life he wanted more. It wasn't until his father took him on a trip to Caemlyn that he finally realized how his town of Baerlon really is. Jed stayed in Caemlyn and joined the guard, hoping to gain the skills necessary to be able to travel on his own. Recently, he's heard many stories about Trollocs making a strong push up north in the Borderlands. These rumors made Jed realize that there is even more of world outside of Caemlyn and Andor.

Jed will start as an armsman and move toward Warder. He could either get to know your character, imimrtl, during the game or possibly before if you'd like. I'd be willing to modify the backstory a bit if necessary.

DukeRuckley wrote:

You will be starting in the hotly contested lands of the Almoth Plain. Depending on the make up of the party, that will determine the starting "hook" for people.

From a time line perspective, you will be starting somewhere in the middle of book 2, The Great Hunt. Book 1, Eye of the World has already taken place so there are rumors aplenty about the great battle that took place on the border of the Blight. The False Dragon Logain has already been paraded through the streets of Camelyn. The world is indeed becoming more tumultuous.

Also of note to all applicants, when the game starts, characters will be 2nd level. The campaign book has a beginning section of miscelaneous mini adventures for 1st level characters that are designed to get people familiar with the game/setting and help get things started. Given the amount of roleplaying experience most on these boards have, the nature of the PbP format and my required level of existing WoT knowledge, we'll be skipping these and diving directly into the meat of the campaign which assumes that characters are 2nd level. There will be some brief "quiet time" when we first start, to let people interact IC and get a feel for how everyone plays their characters but then we're going full steam ahead.

Any other questions please feel free to let me know. Keep those submissions coming!

Brief Background of Dylindyn Sotara

Second daughter of a minor noble house in Ebou Dari, not much was demanded or expected of young Dylin...as her friends called her. She was expected to learn to look pretty, speak intelligently about any number of subjects, and learn to be a good wife. It was known that she would have a good arranged marriage, and could live out her life in luxury.

Her one weakness was for injured animals. She was always bringing home a wounded stray of some sort, and much to eveyone's surprise they healed and were sent back to nature...or kept as pets... more often than not.

That all changed two years ago. She was as excited as any of her friends to get a look at the visiting party of Aes Sedai. She had of course heard the rumors of strange stirrings in the air, but the fact that the Aes Sedai were here, lent these rumors credence. And then when the short, fat one looked her in the eye from across the room, and pointed her out to the bear of a man at her side, things really got interesting.

To make a long story short, she and two other girls were shuttled away to the Aes Sedai room at the local Inn, tested for stirrings of the One Power, and much to her bewilderment carted off to the White Tower. Eleven years old, and her life had been turned upside down. But she was older now...she had learned much...and now more than anything wanted to become an Aes Sedai.

I noticed that you removed Pick Pocket as a seperate skill, but still included it on the skill list. I'm assuming it's part of Slight of Hand. Also the Composure, and Weavesight skills are on my character sheet. Do they still exist for magic users in this game?

Yeah, Pick Pocket is now a part of Sleight of Hand, it should be removed from the skill list table as a seperate skill. My mistake, good catch.

I mentioned it briefly in the skills posting but all channeling/weave based skills, Composure, Weavesight, etc are all unchanged from what is posted in the book. It's only the "core" skills that I updated, the new WoT specific skills are still intact.

For your starting HP, you get max HP for 1st level AND for 2nd level. After that, once we're in the game, you will roll as normal upon level up.

For starting equipment, everyone gets 1 gear package based on their background from pg 26-27 as normal. Additionally, everyone gets double the DIE ROLL for random starting funds from pg 112. Example: The Armsman normally starts with 5d4x10 mk to spend but for this will start with 10d4x10 mk.

This shouldn't be an issue even with the additional starting funds but to make people aware, you may only buy up to Masterwork quality armor and weapons with your starting funds. Masterpiece armor and weapons, along with Power-wrought blades, are not something you can buy to start with.

Question.
May we take another class as our second level or stick to one class in the begining?

Ok so I have made some alterations to my concepts and would be happy to play either of them.

Jorian al'Barest was born in Baerlon to two farmer parents. His mother Kryssa was an excellent cook and mother. She could read, and made sure that her children were educated as best she could. They were taught their numbers and letters. His father was a farmer and dutiful father. Stern but fair was his motto and he practiced what he preached. Jorian is the 3rd of 7 children. He has an older brother and sister and four younger sisters. The al'Barest family has worked their land just north of the town for generations. Jorian, has always been a dreamer. He dreams of going to places like Caemlyn to see the Queen and Tear to see the great Stone.

He and his friends would talk about what they would do and the adventures they would have if they ever got out of Baerlon, not realizing that one of them would be pushed out sooner than expected. It started one afternoon when Jorian was 14, he was being bullied by one of the kids in the neighboring farms when he snapped. Normally Jorian was fairly mild and would just shrug it off but this time he had insulted one of his baby sisters who had been born with a cleft lip, calling her a monster and freak. Jorian got so angry that all he could think of was hurting the other boy. That is when it happened. The boys pants spontaneously caught on fire. He had been standing near a forge so everyone thought he had brushed against something hot and that had caused the fire. A week later the headaches began followed by a raging fever. The wise women came and said it looked like Jorian wouldn't last the night and that all they could do was make him comfortable. Miraculously Jorian pulled through.

Over the next few weeks, life returned to normal. Jorian did his chores and conversed with his friends and looked after his sisters. One day when he was helping his father mend a broken fence he hit is thumb with the hammer. He got very angry again and the fence that he was working on burst into flames. He yelped and jerked back stunned while his father put out the fire.

When he had finished, his father turned and looked at him closely. Jorian was shocked that he didn't see surprise in his fathers eyes but sadness. His father then told him about his grandfather who had been a man that could channel. He had gained the power late in his teens after he had fathered a son. The white tower found out about him and had him gentled. He lasted another year before passing away, eventually giving up the will to live. Jorian's father looked at him again and told him that he would not let that happen to him. He needed to leave immediately and not come back. Keep on the move and don't trust anyone. He gave him the coin that he had saved and some food and a broken down plow horse and sent him on his way. Jorian has been traveling ever since, trying to study his powers so that he doesn't hurt anyone. This being made difficult because he found out that he could only channel if he was really angry. Thankfully he had much to be angry about.
