Kirael
|
Sorry for the delay!
"You're lucky this beastie is too big for me to hoard Gorum's powers all to myself!" Kirael calls out to Boom.
Kirael takes a swift step away from the creature, keeping her eyes on its long arms, then grabs for a moment the hilt of Boom's greatsword and casts Align Weapon - Good.
Boom's weapon is aligned as Good for the next....5 minutes.
Boom Suburrae

Azdak, will my channeling to heal benefit that guy too?
"Probably! Don't heal it!
Evan--shift and hold again!!
Kirael? In any case, you do it with Boom instead!
"THANKEE, Kirael! Hee hee I won't let you down! SMASH!"
Harnac Lucridious

Kirael? In any case, you do it with Boom instead!
Oops, point taken. in any case, if boom 5' steps then readies an attack for when Hack attacks, we get all three attacks at the +2 for flanking. so...
ROUND 2
Hack holds back, waiting until Boom moves in
Action: delay until Boom moves closer
Assuming she does...
Once she gets to the north side of the beastie, Hack sidles up to the other side and double-whacks again.
Attack: 1d20 + 10 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 10 + 2 = 25
Damage: 1d10 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14
Attack: 1d20 + 10 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 10 + 2 = 27
Damage: 1d10 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13
Boom Suburrae

"THANKEE, Kirael! Hee hee I won't let you down! SMASH!"
Round II
Boom steps lightly closer to the daemon and, once Hack does the same, swings her newly aligned greatsword with all of her considerable might.Power Attack: 1d20 + 11 - 2 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 11 - 2 + 2 = 25
Damage: 2d6 + 15 ⇒ (5, 1) + 15 = 21
"YAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!"
Evan Just
|
so Azdak is next... Evan is still hoping for an answer from him... because I'm pretty sure channeling won't affect the outsider. There's a whole feat to make it possible to affect outsiders... but I want GM confirmation via Azdak's good knowledge roll.
Azdak Ejderha
|
"Azdak, will my channeling to heal benefit that guy too?"
"I would not include it in your channeling if I were you!"
I presume it would, but check with DM to be sure.
Round 2
Azdak moves his hands in quick somatic gestures and casts magic missile on the outsider.
"Sihurli Fuze!"
Three bolts burst out of his hands and strike the Ceustodaemon!
Magic Missile: 3d4 + 3 ⇒ (1, 3, 2) + 3 = 9
Evan Just
|
Yeah I haven't bothered with selective channel yet... can't exclude him. I went the summoning route... so if we get to a real bad fight I'll summon celestial things to tear into our foes. Actually... they count as "good" weapons right?
| Dungeon Master S |
Channeling DOES heal outsiders. the feat Kevin is thinking of allows you to harm outsiders with it like you can harm the undead."
Kirael takes a moment to hone her blade to a literal righteous edge. Harnac and Boom take three solid chunks out of the beast. Azdak's spell hits home and the daemon seems to be faltering under the combined might of the party. The daemon steps back and walks through a hole in reality, only to appear to the north of the party. (AoO from Boom and Harnac)
Round 2 summary:
Kirael: Align Weapon
Harnac: Delay then hit.
BOOM!: Hit
Azdak: Magic Missile
Baddies: DD
Evan: Current
1d4 ⇒ 3: 2
Ceustodaemon: 45
Kirael
|
"I can selectively channel in a moment!" Kirael calls out. [/b] "I just want to get one good hit on this beastie." [/b]
Kirael steps out of the daemon's reach and casts Spiritual Weapon. A magical greatsword appears to the side of the daemon and bashes at it.
Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22
Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4 Sigh.
Spell damage, so no damage reduction.
Evan Just
|
Kirael isn't going to let Evan go huh? :)
Seeing that their foe isn't doing too well, Evan decides not to start summoning. He steps away from the beast and opts for the spiritual weapon of Desna again (Evan had 3 of them prepared)...
attack: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (11) + 11 = 22
damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9

Attack of Opportunity (Round II)
"OH NO YOU DON'T!!!" Boom shouts after the creature rapidly disappearing through reality to the other side of the room. Still enraged, she yanks down the edge of her good-aligned weapon like a righteous guillotine.
Power Attack: 1d20 + 11 - 2 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 11 - 2 + 2 = 27
Damage: 2d6 + 15 ⇒ (6, 5) + 15 = 26 "BOOM!"
| Dungeon Master S |
Boom's swing is massive, tearing through sinew and bone. The daemon's mystical form can't resist much of the hit. As he snarls in pain, his head turns from Evan's spell... just a second before the spiritual starknife sinks into its skull. The daemon drops dead at the party's feet.
Out of initiative.
Boom Suburrae
|
"Hee hee! That was FUN!" Boom pants, dropping out of rage. "We should hurry though, they'll know we're here!"
She turns to the frail Taldan in the corner. "Quickly, sir! Are you a Riftwarden? Are you hurt?"
| Dungeon Master S |
"Aye! I am. Quickly find the others. They could be down below, or elsewhere up here. They torture us daily, and I'm not sure how much more any of us can take. Please! I can describe the others. you must find them!"
Boom Suburrae
|
Can someone heal him? Boom continues hurriedly, cutting any bonds with her dagger. "You must come with us, you will not be safe here. Are you fit to walk? How many are the others? Their descriptions? Of what special dangers know you?"
Kirael
|
Kirael isn't going to let Evan go huh? :)
Sorry, Evan! Wanted to post before I forgot.
Kirael does a quick channel to heal everyone, including the Taldan.
Channel Positive Energy: 3d6 ⇒ (4, 4, 3) = 11
Kirael turns to the Taldan. "There, that should feel better! And yes, please tell us about your fellows. And quickly!"
| Dungeon Master S |
He seems much better after the channel, but his fingers are still broken, and will require a different type of restoration.
"Imaga is a Garundi woman with close-shorn
hair. She has a parrot familiar, but he's likely dead. Jahani is a Garundi woman with tattoos on the backs of her hands. She got one of the worst tortures. I think they cut out her tongue. She had a weasel too.
Mikael is a Chelish man with disheveled, dark brown hair. That's all of us."

RETCON...
AoO from hack:
AoO: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (17) + 12 = 29
Damage: 1d10 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11
I don't know if this will be enough to prevent at least one of the spells from being cast!!
Harnac Lucridious
|
Aye, we'll save ye and ye kin from these devils. Let's go below first, I'm fer thinkin' that has the best chance of bein' quiet.
Hack leads the way into the room the demon came from, looking for stairs or a trapdoor down.
Boom Suburrae

Aye, we'll save ye and ye kin from these devils. Let's go below first, I'm fer thinkin' that has the best chance of bein' quiet.
Hack leads the way into the room the demon came from, looking for stairs or a trapdoor down.
Err, hang on. I think the "room" the daemon came from is a flagstone courtyard... in any case, I doubt we've maintained stealth at this point. Boom would prefer to clear this level first before we descend, and suggests running around the compound clockwise from our current position.
"Wait!!! We should employ our disguise plan," Boom whispers loudly. She swiftly dons a dead guard's tunic and downs her extract of disguise self to look like the leader (if there is one). "Kirael and Azdak, put these two other tunics and let's go! I will lead the way."
I'd like to wait for an okay (or not) from everybody, if possible.
Harnac Lucridious
|
Ah yes. I must be a coffee short of good sense today.
Ach, fergive me daft brain. Yer right, lass--let's at least try ta be all sneaky-like. Oh wait--before we go too far... Hack goes to windows or doors and peers out, trying to get his bearings...
DMS, I'd like to know whether Hack is confident of (at least) the general direction of the sewer escape hatch, if not the exact location. I want to be able to run in th right direction once running is called for!!
Boom Suburrae
|
"Hmm, good point, hee hee!" Boom glances about to figure out where the sewer entrance might be. Kn Engineering: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27 BOOM! I am rolling well today.
Kirael
|
Kirael dons the tunic and sniffs, frowning. "This reeks," she says, frowning. "But other than that, I support Boom's plan. It's unlikely that disguises will help, but it's always possible. If we run into anyone who heard the commotion, we'll blame it on our prisoners."
| Dungeon Master S |
Boom, you think there is likely a basement...
| Dungeon Master S |
Indeed, you can hear the shouts of an alert. It's hard to tell exactly how many, but there are more than 4 voices and fewer than 10.
Harnac Lucridious
|
Two important questions.
1) does Hack think htere's time to drag the 4 corpses into a cell, so they're at least not out in plain sight?
2) can hack (or Boom) get any rough idea of where the sewer egress might be located? (besides "down"...) :-)
| Dungeon Master S |
1. You think the guards will be quite organized by the time you hide the bodies.
2. No, just that sewer access will likely be somewhere in the basement, and you have no expectations for the basement floor plan.
Boom Suburrae
|
Right then. Time to move! Unless there are strong objections...
"Leave the bodies! I will cover our exit with FIRE!" Boom whispers excitedly.
Just before we leave the room through the southern door, Boom gleefully tosses a pair of bombs into the disused stable, aiming for the wooden stalls at the other end of the room and the nearby haystack. (My bombs deal 2d6+6 fire damage on direct hits and 8 fire damage in a 5' radius splash, so hopefully that's sufficient damage to the structure to set it alight.)
Then it's quick out the door, Boom motioning to bring the "prisoners" along, and then quick across the walkway into the next door (southeastern-most room of the compound). While outside she glances about for signs of alarm/guards.
IF we encounter a guard outside, Boom will shout orders at it. "You lazy bums! That building's a-fire! Get some men and put it out! We have to transfer these prisoners but we can't lose our food supply! Hop to it!" Intimidate: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (15) + 10 = 25
| Dungeon Master S |
That's a Bluff more than an intimidate. Regardless, there is no one on the other side of that door. The commotion is in the courtyard.
Kirael
|
Is there anywhere in this room that Riftwardens could be stashed? If not, we should move on.
Everyone - should we go confront the guards, or wait for them to find us? If we confront them, there will be more commotion which might lead to more guards...but it also allows us to potentially catch them off-balance.
| Dungeon Master S |
No, there are no other places to look (which you conclude before pyromania overtakes BOOM!
Boom Suburrae
|
And in this new room (full of what appears to be bunk-beds)?
Re: Kirael, I'm worried that the Adepts might start killing prisoners. Hopefully a burning stable will keep them distracted temporarily while we clear the upper levels. That said, I'm not totally against a direct attack... =)
Boom Suburrae
|
Based on what Maroc told us... the Blackfires are moving on and planning to kill everybody today or tomorrow anyway. Maroc also told us that a direct assault is a bad idea, although we've already taken out part of their defenses piecemeal. They might have the ability to summon more ceustodaemons, however, and that would be rough going with a Riftwarden in tow.
In any case, we have less than ten minutes before the Pure Legion shows up. Probably.
| Dungeon Master S |
The room Kirael is now in is definitely empty.
Boom Suburrae
|
The room Kirael is now in is definitely empty.
How about the one Boom is in?
| Dungeon Master S |
Oops, that was my bad. I specifically meant the one Boom is in:
Harnac Lucridious
|
Aright, lets get movin' and find those Riftwardens!! Just before moving to follow Boom, Hack addresses the earstwhile prisoner. Stay with Azdak here. He'll keep ye safe.
Boom Suburrae
|
Oops, that was my bad. I specifically meant the one Boom is in:
"Nothing here! Onward then, hee hee!" Not wasting any time, Boom continues along the next parapet and leads the way in through the next door.
Also, during the brief walk along the parapet, does Boom get any sense of what's going on in the courtyard/stable?
Azdak Ejderha
|
I moved everyone along behind Boom on the map. I hope that is alright.
" "Kirael and Azdak, put these two other tunics and let's go! I will lead the way."
"Certainly! Especially if it helps us move about unnoticed!"
"Stay with Azdak here. He'll keep ye safe."
"I will do my best. I always try to avoid getting hit, but sometimes in these situations, the risk is far too great as it is. Come along, my friend. We will be getting everybody out of here as quickly as we can!""
Azdak escorts the Riftwarden as he follows Harnac and Boom. He asks the prisoner, "Will this way avoid trouble? Is this the easiest way to reach your companions?"
| Dungeon Master S |
The small courtyard below is oddly quiet. The door that leads to the main courtyard is slightly ajar (as if someone just didn't shut it behind them.) The commotion you can hear is that of planning and shouting.
You can also make out the spidery words of magic.
Boom Suburrae
|
Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4 Boom is FAR too busy thinking about bombs and fire and also that new mutagenic formula she's been working on to notice anything of much import.
| Dungeon Master S |
You HEAR the words of magic, not writing.
| Dungeon Master S |
Spellcraft check: Spellcraft: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12. Nope, not a clue what they're casting. Safe bet that they're buffing up for a big fight.
