Can I use the Enlarge Person and Tongues spells from the scrolls? I would like to add them to my formula book.

M somewhat akin to a kender Y / MA

I don't see any problem with that....

"Hm. What I wouldn't give for a bag of holding." Erine scratches her head. "Goat's telling me he can make one of the dead grimlocks talk to me and and answer my questions. But I'll need a night's rest before we'll be ready to try it, and I don't fancy staying down here."

I'm not sure. From the spell description:

Quote:
You can cast this spell on a corpse that has been deceased for any amount of time, but the body must be mostly intact to be able to respond. A damaged corpse may be able to give partial answers or partially correct answers, but it must at least have a mouth in order to speak at all. This spell does not affect a corpse that has been turned into an undead creature.

So it's pretty much up to KK.

I am fine either way. If it only requires the head, we could take it with us more easily.

M somewhat akin to a kender Y / MA

Once the grimlocks are dead and you have spent some time in discussion and Minniwick even looking over some scrolls the boarded up doors of the warehouse burst open unexpectedly throwing the daylight into the interior of the wharehouse......

Male Human Druid 3 / Wizard (Foresight School) 3 / Mystic Theurge 2

A familiar shape appears in the door with the light shining behind him.....

"Looks like tha guards err comin this way."

Female Gnome Witch 6 (Ward currently on Nobody, Hero Points: 1, Hit Points: 50/54)

KK, will just the head be enough for the spell?

M somewhat akin to a kender Y / MA

Sure as long as you get the vocal structures and Minniwick has a bellows to blow air over the vocal cords!

Female Gnome Witch 6 (Ward currently on Nobody, Hero Points: 1, Hit Points: 50/54)

Heeeey! Hello in there! Hey! What's so important? Whatcha got here that's worth fightin' us for?

M somewhat akin to a kender Y / MA

Was that an intentional reference to The Princess Bride and Miracle Max?

Female Gnome Witch 6 (Ward currently on Nobody, Hero Points: 1, Hit Points: 50/54)

Yes. Yes, it was.
Anyways, I'd rather handle the questions IC, but we'll have to wait a day to get started--Erine won't technically have the spells prepared until she rests and communes with Goat. So if there's anything else to do in the meantime...?

M somewhat akin to a kender Y / MA

She grimaces just as the words leave her mouth.

I think it is time for us to Head on out of here!

M somewhat akin to a kender Y / MA

The inn is next door, your room allows you to overlook the work of the guards in cleaning up the bodies of the grimlocks.

I am assuming that you took the females head....

The day fades into evening as in the candle-light the grimlocks eyes seem to move in the flickering flame. It is more than a bit strange to have a head set up for the spell tomorrow.

Erine prepares spells and the new morning dawns.

Female Gnome Witch 6 (Ward currently on Nobody, Hero Points: 1, Hit Points: 50/54)

Erine awakens bright and early and goes to the neighboring room to get Edrukk, Broccan and Minniwick. Oh, and Canvy might come, too.

She looks about as disheveled as usual, though she hasn't yet taken the time to scrub the grimlock's blood off her hands and it's getting her some odd glances. "Are you ready for the interrogation?"

Male Human Brawler 3 I AC 17 T 13 FF 14 l HP 40/40 l F +7 R +6 W +2 l Init +3 l Perc +1 I Action Points 1/6 I Att +6 I CMB +5/+7*/+9** I CMD 17/+19*

Female Gnome Witch 6 (Ward currently on Nobody, Hero Points: 1, Hit Points: 50/54)

Erine goes back to her room, whether or not the others follow. The head is resting on the floor.

She gets down on her knees and begins humming. The tune is discordant and confusing, fading in and out sharply. It's something like a mosquito's buzz.

She starts to poke and prod the head, opening its eyes and shutting them, turning it to face her, drawing odd symbols on its cheeks in bright blood.

Ten minutes go by thusly, and the head begins to pick up a crimson glow.

At last, Erine stops humming. She speaks, utterly monotonous. "Why did you come to the surface?"

The SRD wrote:

You may ask one question per two caster levels. The corpse's knowledge is limited to what it knew during life, including the languages it spoke. Answers are brief, cryptic, or repetitive, especially if the creature would have opposed you in life.

If the dead creature's alignment was different from yours, the corpse gets a Will save to resist the spell as if it were alive. If successful, the corpse can refuse to answer your questions or attempt to deceive you, using Bluff. The soul can only speak about what it knew in life. It cannot answer any questions that pertain to events that occurred after its death.

A lot depends on this question, so I'll hold off on the others until it's got its answer. I get a total of twelve questions. The Will save DC is 17.

M somewhat akin to a kender Y / MA

"We were seeking to trade with 'Those who Hear'."

”We were going to trade magic scrolls."

"Food."

Female Gnome Witch 6 (Ward currently on Nobody, Hero Points: 1, Hit Points: 50/54)

Erine turns to the others, scowling. She mouths, those who hear, and shrugs.

She turns back. "What were you trading for?"
Questions: 5/12
Any ideas on how to narrow down the identity of 'those who hear'? My first instinct is the wererats, since they'd naturally have good ears, but I'm not really sure. Might be a stretch. :P

M somewhat akin to a kender Y / MA

The face snarls at you with no eyes at all in it's head.

"For something more useful to us than scrolls!"

Maybe 'where do you find those that hear' or something along those lines?

Edrukk watches the process impassively. His deity had little use for the already-dead foes and Edrukk found that attitude to his liking, as well.

Female Gnome Witch 6 (Ward currently on Nobody, Hero Points: 1, Hit Points: 50/54)

M somewhat akin to a kender Y / MA

"The wrinkle in reality."

Female Gnome Witch 6 (Ward currently on Nobody, Hero Points: 1, Hit Points: 50/54)

Erine blinks.
Knowledge (arcana): 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (14) + 11 = 25
If (the planes) applies better, subtract two from that roll. Can Erine think of anything that might resemble what the grimlock referenced?
Alternatively, Knowledge (local) 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20, looking for a location in the city that might be referred to as such.

Dwarven Warpriest of Gorum| AC 20, T 11, F 19| HP 78/99| F 8 R 4 W 9, +2 vs poison, spells, spell-like abilities| Init +1| Perc +5| Fervor 6/7| Blessing 7/7| Sacred weapon 7/7| armor 7/7

Failing something useful from the knowledge rolls, how about "what path do you take to the wrinkle in reality?" Do we want to ask where they got the scrolls from or is that wasted going in the wrong direction?

M somewhat akin to a kender Y / MA

There is a bookstore called the Reality wrinkle in town, which has obscure books.....

Erine doesn't immediately respond to Sanstree, perhaps worried that something she says will be interpreted as a question. "How many of Those Who Hear are usually at the 'wrinkle in reality'? Are the wererats allies of Those Who Hear? How did you get the scrolls?"

And, finally...

"Are there any golems or undead at the 'wrinkle in reality'?"

As the last answer is about to be given, Erine turns away. "That's good, Sanstree. I think I know what the 'wrinkle in reality' is. There's a store not far off called the Reality Wrinkle that sells obscure books. We should pay them a visit."

Spoiler:
The reality wrinkle specializes in arcane of the strangest sort – obscure philosophical treatises dealing with other dimensions and alternate realities, pseudo theological texts of an alchemical or theosophilical bent, and the ravings of lunatics who delve too deeply into bizarre magical secrets...
