            Not wishing to waste any of her magical energies on such a pitiful creature, Malena unleashes an acid splash at the water beetle. She finds the effects her minor spell within the murky water to be just as pitiful.

Wilhelm circles to his right, stabbing the bug between its grasping mandibles and causing it to wail in a high, piping scream. Gritta's arrow pierces its heavy carapace a moment later, badly injuring it. Bram stumbles in the neck-high water, his attack ineffective. Similarly, Malena's discomfort in the dark waters causes her acid to splash only into the drink.
Beetle v. Wilhelm: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17
The angry beetle again slashes at Wilhelm with its razor-sharp mandibles, but the agile rogue slips out of the way.

            "Ha ha!" Wilhelm laughs as he dodges the beetle's attack. He takes his rapier in both hands and stabs again at the giant insect, trying to find a particularly tender spot with the beetle flanked.

            Wilhelm stirs his blade around in the water to wash off the beetle gunk.
"Well, I must say that was a good show! Thank you Bram for helping me out with that flanking - I'm at my best when exploiting the weaknesses of my opponent...though, I suppose that's true for anyone. Oh well!" He smiles.
The rogue then turns back to the door in the muck. "So, let's try this again," he says to nobody in particular as he opens the door and peers down.

            Stepping a wide berth around where the beetle's corpse sunk into the murky water, Malena rolls up her sleeves and bends down to help Wilhelm with the handle.
"Just like being on farm again," she says, gritting her teeth as she strains. "Pump was always rusty."

            Between the three, you yank the heavy plug up out of the mud... and release several thousand tons of water into the space below, and you along with it. As water roars into the now-open void, you are swept off your feet and plunged down the cascade into the space below.
From the corner of your eyes you notice Devis Marlinchen hurl himself into the waters, permitting himself to be sucked into the necropolis with you.

            Gritta, please reflect the 3 damage you took on your Class/Level line.
Only Gritta is injured by being unceremoniously dumped on her rear in thee now-soggy corridors the inundated structure into which you've all fallen. Once you have picked yourself up, you find yourself in a narrow corridor stretching east. The only light is the wan sunlight filtering in from above. You are in water up to your knees, but it is rapidly draining away to the east.
You'll need sources of light.

            Malena draws a sunrod from her pouch, cracks it, and uses it to assess the extent to which her clothes and gear have been sullied by the murky water. With her free hand, she uses prestidigitation to dry and clean herself.
"Anyone else need quick cleanse?" she asks of her comrades.
Not sure if prestidigitation can dry clothing, though I know it can be used to clean it. Also, does anyone else think of a sunrod as a giant glow stick?

            "Oh dear, it seems that I have neglected to procure a source of light. Huh, who would've thought a place called the necropolis would be dark and scary - am I right?"
Wilhelm stands up, "Does anyone have a torch or sunrod?"
I know I should've bought a wayfinder.

            A cleanse wouldn't hurt" Gritta answers. "not as much as tumbling down that well. Grace has never been my style"
In the light of the sunrod, Gritta has a look to see what she can discern.

            "Of course," Malena says to Gritta.
After she finishes magically cleaning her own clothes and hair, she quickly gets to work doing the same for her fellow Chelaxian.
"Wilhelm? Bram?" the sorcerer inquires, "You want next?"

"Why yes, if you wouldn't mind... I'd hate to catch a cold."

            "No spell," Malena says as she works out the last bit of muck from Bram's beard, "But I have another sunrod."
She hands the dwarf the sunrod she already cracked and draws her spare from her belt pouch. She cracks it unceremoniously before getting to work magically cleaning Wilhelm and his gear.
"There, she says. "Now we are spic-and-span for finding ring in dangerous ghost dungeon."
I love feeling useful. I also love how preposterous it is that four adventurers with magical powers took the time to clean up before exploring a haunted necropolis. Now we're all ready for the ghost prom.

            Somehow I missed that Malena had a sunrod already active.
"Oooh, shiny! Yes, this should make it quite a bit easier to navigate this necropolis." Whilhelm takes the sunrod and holds it in his off-hand.

            "Very convenient" gritta says. After being made slightly drier and cleaner, she can now also see things. "I saw Marlinchen coming after us, have you seen where he went?"

            Narrow hallway. We are on the left-hand side of it - only room for single file. There is an opening on the right, and then past that, the hallway makes a right turn.

            "You lead," Malena says to Wilhelm. "I will follow."
The sorcerer holds her sunrod in one hand, her other ready to conjure up another acid splash should they meet a threat in the dark hallway of the necropolis. She scans the walls, floor, and ceiling as she walks down the hallway, getting a feel for the drowned chamber.

            Wilhelm nods at Malena. "Yes...I'll lead." He tries to sound braver than he feels. He steps lightly down the hallway and peers into the first opening.

            The Pathfinders examine both branches of the corridor, finding a door at the end of one and a collapsed dead-end stairway at the other. Returning to the door, they find it ajar. Peeking into the dark room beyond with the aid of their sunrod, they see that carved pillars in the corners of this chamber hold aloft a double-vaulted ceiling of cracked frescos. On either side of the chamber, a single step leads up into a deeply recessed area that forms an arched room of its own.

            Gritta keeps her place as the rear guard as she sees Bram inspect the room. She keeps her eye on the recessed area.

            Malena follows her companions. She casts detect magic once she has fully entered the chamber.
"Let us see if there are any surprises waiting for us here," she says, flexing her fingers in arcane gestures.
Unless attacked or otherwise threatened, Malena will give it the full three rounds of detection.

            Wilhelm relents the lead to Bram. As he follows the dwarf into the chamber, he holds the sunrod high and steps off to the west (assuming up is north). He examines the walls.

            Devis seems annoyed by Wilhelm's carefree attitude. "Have some respect, sir. There are many dead here, mostly children!"
On the floor of the east recess, the perfectly preserved body of a young boy lies in a puddle and stares silently upward.
In the western recess, bumping against the back wall, is the moving, yet clearly deceased corpse of some large humanoid. It turns to face the sounds of the intruders and moves to the attack!

            Wilhelm takes a 5-foot step to the south side of Bram and draws his composite longbow. He knocks a cold iron arrow and lets it fly at the creature in the corner.

Also, he gets a better look at the thing.
