oopse sorry, missed that. Is the spear a longspear?
Yoshi will take the spear.
"I am wondering what the potions are doing, and whether they are belonging to the snake people."

"Barksin and enlarge person to you, Yoshi? Jump to Felicitas, maybe? While I take one Cure light wounds and Sindelle takes the rest?"
"You're, right, Sindelle." Karos goes to grab one of the nagaji and put him to the question. Once the monk is awake, Karos backhands him once across the face. "Rise and shine, Sparky. Want to walk away from this? Well, slither away from this? Tell me what's happening here. Why did you attack us?"
Intimidate: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (18) + 13 = 31
Kraak Sharpbeak |
Trying to speak to the Nagaji Felicitas will use a scroll of comprehend languages and tries to get a discussion flowing.
Kraak Sharpbeak |
True but thumps up, nodding and shaking hand always work ;-)
She will try to pantomine her questions.
PerfPantomine: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
Michael Hallet |
The nagaji appears to be confused by your pantomime. Perhaps there are some cultural barriers to your use of hand signals.
Actually they don't always work. Sometimes what is a benign gesture to one culture can be a rude or obscene gesture in another. A knowledge (local) check would actually be more appropriate in this case.
Kraak Sharpbeak |
I Know. They always work... just not in the way you think!
Know local: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21
Michael Hallet |
Felicitas recalls some of her Pathfinder training. Hand signals used in the marketplaces of major cities of Tian Xia like Goka.
Though they are more suited to mercantile needs, Felicitas makes a go of it and tries a few gestures.
The nagaji tries to make a few gestures in reply
Sindelle Lifewater |
Sindelle steps between Karos and the nagaji.
"Seriously Karos...don't do that. He's tied up and not a threat. You catch flies with honey not vinegar anyway." Looking maybe a little bit disgusted that he slapped the helpless nagaji, Sindelle shoves him a way a bit before turning to face the prisoner.
"我知道你说天。你在战斗中大喊我们。我们不在这里伤害你...好吧,我们不是*所有*这里伤害你。我们正在试图找出这个地方发生了什么事,因为郝金做了事情, 并试图给我们的朋友Tanbaru一些和平。不会帮助我们比战斗和失去我们更好吗?"

Yoshi, back from whatever meditations a non-monk might engage it, asks the snake men in Tien.
"Please be telling me what you are attacking us. And what you know of this place. We are not wanting to be disrespectful to the trail or this holy spot at the end of it."

He thinks about the gestures.
"This is now being your home after being long abandoned and you are thinking we are wanting to be taking it from you" he asks
Yoshi Masaso |
"Who is being Master Hsamira?" asks Yoshi.
He translates for the others. "Has anyone being heard of Hsamira?"
Turning back to the snake-man he assures him "We are not wanting to be removing you from this place. But to study it with respect."
Karos Valdian |
"We're here for historical records and to discover what's happened since the temple was torn in half," says Karos. "Ask them about that. They can't be serious about respecting a temple they've turned into a bandit's headquarters."
Yoshi Masaso |
"How long have you been living here" asks Yoshi.
"And how are you coming to find the temple is being unoccupied?"
For each of PbP, Yoshi is happy to translate any and all questions into Tien.
Yoshi Masaso |
Leaving the captive tied up, Yoshi gestures to the others.
"There is still being the one area as yet unexplored. Then we can be deciding what to do."
He heads west towards the last area of the temple the team has yet to explore.
Kraak Sharpbeak |
"Sounds good! Onward!"
Sindelle Lifewater |
"Before we do...is this Hsamira also here in the temple? Are there any other threats we should be aware of? As we've said we don't want to hurt anyone here just learn and help our friend Tanbaru." (She will ask him in Tien and tell the party what she's asking)
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (15) + 12 = 27
If nothing else can be learned Sindelle will stay near the center/back of the party as we continue exploring.
Michael Hallet |
Hasmira is not here, they left to start their own monastery and hopefully train other nagaji monks.
You continue exploring the last room of the temple which the nagaji describes as the meditation room.
The walls and columns of this small building are covered in carvings of mythological scenes. Three sitting pillows of slightly different sizes lie on the floor.
Perception or Survival
On the northern wall, two inhuman creatures with hair burning like flames hold down a third creature with rough, chiseled features atop an anvil. The two fiery creatures have hammers raised as if shaping their victim in a blacksmith’s forge. Behind them, a towering monstrosity crushes an army beneath its elephantine feet.

The south wall shows the horned humanoids driving the spike into the monster, pinning it against the wall of a cavern above a pool. Far in the background, a bearded giant with ram's horns curling from his head howls in pain.
Knowledge (religion)
Knowledge (geography or nature)
The west wall's carvings depict a mortal woman who carries a battered suit of armor and gazes up at a towering old man who stands before her. With one hand he points to the snowcapped mountains behind him. The other he uses to gesture palm-outward to the woman, as if instructing her to go no further.

Michael Hallet |
The calm of the room is soon broken.
Surrounded by fierce whirling winds, an athletic woman of living stone appears. In a booming telepathic voice, she declares, "For over a thousand years I've stood vigil over the procession that leads up to this temple. I was watching you while you walked the Pilgrim's Path. Everything you faced along the way was a test of your abilities and your character. But the test is not over - answer my questions and face my judgment!"
Tanbaru recognizes this creature as the dosojin kami, Jiraku, his mate. Jiraky managed to lower portion of the Pilgrim's Path, and Tanbaru the upper.
"Who are you and why are you here?"
You quickly formulate four ways to answer this question and the corresponding skills that would be helpful in conveying that answer. You should choose one skill and one PC to make that check.
Sense Motive - Each of you can try this.
Bluff: Lie about the Pathfinder Society’s goals to make them seem more honorable.
Diplomacy: Tell about the Pathfinder Society in an honest but positive tone.
Knowledge (geography or local): Tell about the people and traditions of the Inner Sea region.
Perform (oratory): Describe Pathfinders and their past successes in a dynamic manner.
Yoshi Masaso |
sense motive: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
Yoshi looks at the others, ready and willing to aid them, but knowing he is no story teller himself.
Yoshi favours telling the truth, albeit in as positive manner as possible. He has only know(local) and a cha negative, so best chance for an aid (if allowed) would be local, totally equal on the others.
Karos Valdian |
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (9) + 13 = 22
Karos tells the team what he's sensed about this situation.
GM: Do we jointly choose a method? Or do we each choose a separate one?
Yoshi Masaso |
Yoshi is more than happy to be guided by smarter folk on this one, but his preference is the diplomacy or oratory route. He just isn't good at either.
Kraak Sharpbeak |
senseMotive: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (14) + 14 = 28
Felicitas has bluff 14, Diplomacy 12, Know local 7 and perfrom oratory 7
Sindelle Lifewater |
Sorry I missed so much my laptop literally burned out and I've had to borrow one from a friend
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (12) + 10 = 22
Sindelle has Bluff +6 or Diplomacy +12. In this situation she'd side with Yoshi and be honest. She'll aid Felicitas if that's the route we take with a straight +5 charisma to aid if she uses perform.
Karos Valdian |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
I can't read the final clue, but the first two suggest that Knowledge checks and Diplomacy are inferior solutions. And given that certain results may anger the kami, Bluff is probably a dangerous option. That leaves performance as our best choice. Luckily, we have a bard with us.
Kami are creatures of sensation and emotion," says Karos. "Diplomacy might work, but I think the spirit might be more impressed by performance. Felicitas, perhaps you should tell the story through song?"
Karos, despite the tense situation, seems to be in a good mood, smiling and confident.
Michael Hallet |
"Very well, but this is no place for an oni! What were you thinking when you brought that creature here?"
Sense Motive - Each of you can try this.
Bluff: Claim that Tanbaru never revealed that he was an oni.
Diplomacy: Explain that what happened to Tanbaru was beyond his control.
Knowledge (planes): Point out that a spirit oni is not as evil or corrupt as other types of oni.
Knowledge (religion): Point out that as a neutral deity, Yamatsumi has no particular bias against oni.
Special: A PC with the Tanbaru's Respect boon gains a +2 bonus on her check and may attempt the Knowledge checks untrained.

"Holy one, Tanbaru had no part in his own fall. It was the doing of Hao Jin when she severed the two halves of the temple. As he fell into becoming an oni, so may he yet rise to become again a faithful kami. We have known him for many days and found him to be honorable and of good spirit."

Kraak Sharpbeak |
Ok wait a moment! I started with perform oratoy 25.
Now there is a new choice of action. And still the same rules apply? OK I get it. So If again, bluff is the worst, knowledge seems like evading this leaves diplomacy as the best option? OK I got it now. Then she won´t bluff but aid Karos. Automatically successful. with +12 to diplo.
It is a bit confusing to be honest. Thanks for the chance to change my action.
Sindelle Lifewater |
Sindelle will aid Karos' words speaking in Tien if needed to translate "The desire to do good should outweigh any evils brought about by external forces. Should pilgrims on the road be blamed for having to forge a new path if a tree or stone falls from a mountain to block it?"

"But I have failed my ward. Look at the desecrated altar! Tell me why I shouldn't just let the fire and ash of Yamatsumi cleanse this place?"

Craft (sculpture or stonemasonry) or Knowledge (engineering): Give a realistic estimate on how easily the temple can be restored.
Diplomacy: Promise to find people who can repair the temple.
Intimidate or Knowledge (planes): Warn Jiraku about turning into an oni.
