Talathel Wolfrider

Talathel raises a speculative eyebrow at Anera.
"That... Looks very suspicious."
The gnome says with a sly smile. After they have left the deck he returns his attention on her.
"Is there anything else I might aid you with, my lady?"
For the last he adds a small bow to her.

Sorry for not posting over the last few days. I was at a small comicon, playing pathfinder of course!
After a few days of innocuous conversation and friendly greetings and such... without again broaching the topic of his time working out of Okeno, Seijiro will just mention, "Look, I'm sorry if I offended or upset you the other day... that wasn't my intention, and you don't have to talk about that time in your life if you don't want to... I had just heard and have my own interest in the possibility of moving goods and services in and out of Okeno without notice of authorities, and thought you might have some insights to share. I did not mean to pry into any details of your time there, and I won't. Please be at ease on that score."
He pauses and continues finally. "Please forgive me for distressing you. Now, and this is me moving on, is there anything I can do to assist you with your duties on the ship... I am not an experienced healer, but I can wash up and roll bandages, or wash down the infirmary, or anything else you might need. I feel the desire to be useful."

brush her hair from her ear. ”How does that sound to you?”

| StephNyan |
"Oh, wait," Anera says before you can walk off. "Maybe you can bring the fish to Shira, if you don't mind?"
I don't want to skip any days here, because I want to keep you on the same day as the others. The exact day doesn't matter though.
"It's okay, Seijiro," Killik tells you when you apologize. "I usually don't mind selling information, but this I'd just rather not talk about. I don't blame you for asking, though. It's all fine."
Killik ponders for a bit, then shakes his head. "There's currently nothing you help help me with..."
You need to roll Diplomacy to get the information you want from Killik, or else you're not going to come an inch closer to your faction mission.
Your Diplomacy roll was too low, but I'm going to give you a +1 bonus for the way you made your proposition. This means you need just 1 person to successfully aid you this in-game day, and then Azuretta will agree to join Zarta's court.
Seijiro Saketa
|
"I understand, but if you ever feel the urge to talk to me, I'm a good listener and even better secret-keeper."
diplomacy: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (19) + 9 = 28
Kolris Isimlothe
|
Kolris doesn't want to insult Azuretta, so he asks her to table the discussion of going to court until after they've completed the other thing they came here to do.
While returning to the captain's cabin, he sees Talathel on the deck, so he stops to chat with the gnome for a moment.
(If you'd be so kind, Kolris is seeking another's aid in a Diplomacy check to convince the half-elf to accept a job at court.)
Talathel Wolfrider
|
Talathel smiles at Anera.
"Anything, for a lady as lovely as you."
He lifts the basket of fish with mage hand, as to not get his hands dirty, and is about to move away when Kolris arrives.
Diplomacy aid: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (2) + 9 = 11 Ouch... But just enough for a aid!
Talathel looks the woman up and down.
"Appearance isn't everything in court. She could be a lovely maid, yes, but can she be a real court woman?"
He stares her in the eyes.
"What do you know of court? Can you keep up with the gossip and intrigue?"
His eyes narrow.
"I think... Maybe you would be able to..."
| StephNyan |
"You know what?" Killik says as he sits straight up from his cot, "I think you're a cool guy. You don't seem the type that will confidential info... Know what? I'll tell you what you want to know. No need to even pay me for the info."
Killik then shares a couple of stories about his time spent on various slaving ships before coming aboard the Throaty Mermaid. When you ask him about it Killik even shares how to get human chattel in or out of the Katapeshi port of Okeno, which is the information you were after.
After Kolris and Talathel have spoken:
There's a sparkle in Azuretta's eyes and she proudly declares "I pride myself in my appearance, but there's certainly more to me than just a pretty face."
A moment of silence follows, after which Azuretta suddenly nods at Kolris. "You know what? I'll do it! I'm up for something new. Something more than constantly sailing on a ship, which will also provide me with a chance to let my other talents shine."
Azuretta winks at both Talathel and Kolris. "Though my services are still available to both of you."
Anera lets out a mocking sound while mumbling "Cheap whore."
Azuretta's face hardens. "Watch your tongue, freeloader."
"You got a problem with me, half-elf?! You think you're pretty, but you're just selling yourself 'cause you're an attention seeking cheap piece of filth! All elves are rotten to the core! Half-elves are no excepti...!"
Azuretta moves over to Anera and slaps her in the face, which results in Anera returning the slap. Just when Azuretta's grabbed hold of Anera's hair and Anera's about to punch Azuretta in the guts, Marzack comes running up and forces himself between the women. The first mate spreads his arms and keeps the ladies apart. "Stop it!"
The women glares at each other, and open their mouths to protest.
"Enough!" Marzack yells.
"I apologize," Marzack say to both Kolris and Talathel. "If you don't mind leaving us for a moment?"
Some time later:
After Marzack's had a good 'talk' with the women, he mainly just shouted how their behavior's not tolerated and forced each of them to clean an entire deck, he leaves and both Azuretta and Anera go their own way.
At the end of the afternoon Azuretta moves up to Kolris. "I apologize for what happened... I don't take well to people offending me like that."
Azuretta hands Kolris a sealed letter. "For miss Dralneen."
Anera's meanwhile returned to the fore deck and has resumed to stare out over the ocean.
Talathel Wolfrider
|
Talathel moves away for a while and eventually join Anera at the foredeck.
"You have a past with that woman?"
He says to her, unsure what else to do to kill time.
"Didn't look like this was the first time."
Seijiro Saketa
|
Seijiro will spend the rest of the journey, if it is uneventful, assisting when/where he can on the ship (prof: sailor), and if they don't need him, he'll just hang out on deck, staying out of the way, but watching the activities on deck, and enjoying the ocean and the weather..
He'll continue to socialize with other passengers and crew a little, but not so much as to intrude on their time or be a pest.
Kolris Isimlothe
|
He slips the envelope, unopened, into an interior pocket of his jacket. ”I’m very glad that you’ll be taking this offer. I have never been called to court myself, but someday I hope my efforts for the Dark Archive will earn me a visit. I will be glad to see you there when
that comes.”
Kolris, in general, will attempt to make time to spend with Azuretta, towards both amorous and mundane ends. Specifically, if he ever sees Anera in the vicinity of Azuretta, he will gravitate to the half-elf’s side in case she needs protection.
Kolris still needs to get the coin to Sephriel. As mentioned previously, my plan is to ‘lose’ the coin to the elf in a card game. Kolris’ plan is to study Sephriel’s playing so that by the end of the game, he’s confident that he knows when the elf has a good hand. He will then include the coin in a bet against the elf. Once the elf has won the hand, he’ll create a disturbance that ends the game so the coin can’t be bet again.
If, for some reason such a situation doesn’t arise, he’ll just palm the coin and add it to a pot that the elf has already won when he helps push those winnings towards the elf. Again, creating a distraction afterwards so that the game ends there.
Is this something that we should go ahead a roleplay now? Are there any rolls you want associated with that? Is there anything about the plan that sticks out as faulty? (Kolris is a smart dude, most likely smarter than I am. If I’m missing some obvious flaw, please give me a heads up.)
| StephNyan |
Anera shakes her head in frustration. "I've dedicated my life to taking care of this elven threat. They all deserve to die."
She slowly guides you to the forward cabin so no one will disturb you, and participates in whatever you want with you. (Let's just leave it there!)
I'll just say Sephriel has a deck of cards, because I like your plan. Let's skip straight to it! :)
During the evening you visit Sephriel in his cabin, or actually the claimed cabin that belongs to Marzack.
"Ah, Kolris! I have some time for you today, please sit down."
You propose a card game to Sephriel once you've sat down and have exchanged some pleasantries. "Hmm... so how does this game work?"
Unless you feel different about it, shall we leave the exact nature of the game in the middle? I think A DC 10 Int check would easily do to let Sephriel end up with the coin. It's not that hard to lose some money, is it? ;)
Kolris Isimlothe
|
Sitting down with the elf, Kolris introduces the game. "Ahh, yes. This is a game called 'The Chelaxian Prince'--I'm sure you've heard of it." He begins shuffling and dealing cards as he explains the rules, if needed, and learns any house rules that Sephriel likes.
(I'm making up the name of a game here that I'm going to say is common in Avistan. Kolris will explain the rules to Sephriel if he doesn't know them. Agreed that we don't actually have to roleplay the gameplay. If I wanted to play cards, I could log into a poker site, not an rpg site.)
Kolris will engage the elven diplomat in casual banter throughout the game. Since it's on his mind, he will mention Anera's anti-elven comments, wondering if Sephriel has had any contact with her, and ensuring that Sephriel will know of her bigotry should they interact in the future. "I'm sure she's just upset like that Ulamon character, over the ship and whatnot, but it's simply not reasonable to take such anger out on an entire race like that. I mean, if we elves treated every human as the sum of their collective crimes against us. Imagine..."
Intelligence DC 10, inspiration: 1d20 + 4 + 1d6 ⇒ (2) + 4 + (5) = 11
Glad I remembered to use inspiration this time! Whew....
Having successfully lost the hand--and the coin--to Sephriel, Kolris excuses himself.
"It was a pleasure to have played a game with you today. Even more a pleasure for the conversation. I was surprised to encounter an anti-elven bias from that woman. Ours is the best company by far. But I'm afraid I can't risk losing more to you, or I'll have nothing to spend when we reach port!"
Talathel Wolfrider
|
"Not all people are the same. But I understand your desire."
He replies to Anera.
"Don't let dark thoughts cloud your vision. I made a mistake once, a grave mistake..."
he pulls back his sleeves, revealing blackened hands and arms.
"I wanted magic. I was tired of the noble game and had one simple desire. I knew my ancestors knew the use of magic so I tried to call them back. I called them back, they burned me and plagued me ever since. I wish I could get rid of them..."
Talathel trails off about his story before coming back to his original point.
"What I was saying. Don't let something rule your life, enjoy what you have. You have a lovely pet and, I hope, work you enjoy. They probably didn't know better, just as you. Just as I didn't know better."
| StephNyan |
A smile cracks on Sephriel's face when he wins the bet and collects his money, including the coin you meant for him to have. "I've never played this game before, but it seems I've got quite the hang of it!"
He nods again as you excuse yourself. "I'd love to play with you, Kolris! If money's a concern for you maybe we can play a regular game next time, without stakes?"
"You're kind... but I'm not you..."
Everyone but Tsukaris has completed his faction mission! Congratulations! :)
Tsukaris sent me a PM. He hopes he'll be able to join us again next week, but he's been very busy and therefor not currently present. I'm not going to wait for him to return, as he's been gone for over 3 weeks, and I'll move this game forward.
It's been a week since you set out from Magnimar. You're currently on the open waters of the Arcadian Ocean, and it's in the dead of night.
Do you have a set watch for all the nights aboard?
Kolris Isimlothe
|
Kolris would definitely have supported setting up a watch schedule; we are an escort for a dignitary, after all. He will be happy to take first watch.
Murdoth Iralmin
|
Murdoth will take a watch as well... She's been sleeping for quite a while. Not sure how regular watches go in regards to how many or for how long
Seijiro Saketa
|
Seijiro is happyy to take a watch... without darkvision though, he'd opt for last watch, rather than midwatch.
Talathel Wolfrider
|
Talathel nods to Anera and leaves her to her thoughts.
Later that nights he lies on the deck staring at the starts with Forch next to him. Thinking about the vast empty space out there.
I'll take midwatch, I have low light vision and Forch has scent.
Should his watch pass by uneventful he'll wake up the next person to take watch and take a nap himself.
| StephNyan |
Alright! Based on the mentioned preferences I've come up with the following watch schedule:
Kolris (2 hours)
Murdoth (2 hours)
Talathel (2 hours)
Tsukaris (2 hours)
Seijiro (2 hours)
With this schedule you all get 8 hours of sleep and there's always 1 of you awake! :)
1d3 ⇒ 2
Talathel's Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12
Forch's Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16
While the rest of you is sound asleep Talathel patrols the ship. He's oblivious to the sounds of grappling hooks clinking against the railing of the aft deck, nor does he hear the sound of people climbing the sides of the ship from the water. However, when Talathel and Forch pass the stairs leading up to the aft deck, Forch seems to smell something upstairs.
@Talathel: You alone have 1 round to act.
@Everyone: Pay no heed to the map locations of crew members at this time. I threw them all to the crew cabin if I thought they might get in the way of the combat ahead, but that's just to get their tokens out of the way.
Talathel Wolfrider
|
Forch starts growling as he smells an unfamiliar sound. Talathel perks up and looks in the direction his wolf is looking. He sees nothing but trusts his wolf and decides to alarm everyone. He casts ghost sound, making the sounds of bells ringing alternating it with the sound of a voice calling 'intruders aboard!'
Seijiro Saketa

perception?: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9
something tells me if we need a perception check to wake up and respond, that Seijiro sleeps blissfully unaware of it all... lol
| StephNyan |
@Kolris: Could you put a stat bar below your name, like the others have? It'll enable me to look up the most important stuff with more ease.
Talathel creates the sound of ringing bells, waking at least part of the crew.
That should wake pretty much anyone up. Unless... they're like me and manage to sleep through everything ranging from thunderstorms to hell breaking loose...
Perception, Kolris: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Perception, Murdoth: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 16
Perception, Tsukaris: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16
While Seijiro and Kolris blissfully continue to sleep, Murdoth and Tsukaris are awoken by Talathel's ghost sound.
Murdoth: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19
Seijiro: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5

Murdoth hearing the alarm bells ringing jumps into action. She quickly grabs her glaive and readies herself for battle. Muttering a prayer to her god, an aura quickly envelopes around her as she prepares.

It stays awkwardly quiet on the main deck.

Seijiro wakes up (I hope, since you can wake a magically slept person with a single std action, so why not a normally sleeping person?) He hops up to his feet. "Who, wha? huh?" he grabs his weapons readies to leave the room.
Murdoth Iralmin
|
Seeing her colleagues being woken up, Murdoth responds to Talathel's warning moving towards the deck.
I'm a little confused about where we are. I think we are on the third deck, and I'll double move to get by the stairs?
| StephNyan |
Number 6 (main hold / galley) is below number 2 (main deck). There are 2 pictures showing the main deck. I suggest we use the lower one, unless you want to open doors.
Murdoth opens the door and moves toward Talathel's position.
An elf with a blue-ish skin appears atop the staircase, coming from the main deck. He keeps his distance from Forch and throws a javelin at the wolf.

Suddenly he pops up to a seated position in his hammock, briefly rubs the sand from his eyes, and hops to the floor. He grabs his weapons and makes to follow the others out of the room.

Tsakuris also goes out of the room. As soon as he is out, he fires a Magic Missile to the blue elf

Seijiro grabs his weapons before waking up Kolris, who gets to his feet and also grabs his weapons.
Murdoth moves to the bottom of the stairs and stabs the blue elf in his throat. A spray of blood erupts from the elf's throat as he falls over and tumbles down the stairs.
@Tsukaris: I'm making that a readied attack, because your target's gone. Could you move yourself on the map so it's clear where you intend to be?
