Octarius is a little baffled by the whole scene, but he knows water, and he knows a monster when he sees one, so he flies closer to the water wysp and waves at it as he focuses his water blast on the ever-changing creature with the big maws.

She does, however, feel a little bit boosted by the nearby fire wysp. She also wants to get over there and attack that creature, so she makes a running jump across the small chasm in her way.
Jump: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (11) + 14 = 25 and easily clears it.

She then closes the gap with the creature, activating her rage and growing in size.

Octaris floats forward, and throws a stream of water at the creature, which is actually quite surprised by just how much the Geyser hurts!

Zephyr enhances his lava-worm ally, giving her the strength of a bull.

Rhyol then takes a mighty leap, getting large, and in the face of the Protean.

For its part, the protean grins, and a wave of chaotic energy washes over the entire plane!

If there is no air wysp and Cloak of Winds does not qualify for boosting Call Lightning Zephyr sees Rhyol's firey skin burns the protean and starts casting Call Ligthtning and targets the creature, using his lesser rod to transform the spell into one of fire.

If there is an air wysp...Zephyr casts fly on himself.

If CoW counts for CL Zephyr casts cloak of winds

EDIT: Wait...do we need to be able to fly to move around? If not, then skip the fly spell and start casting the Call Lightning. If we do, then I'll cast the spell and move within 30 ft of the air wysp.


Assuming the angel-thing is the wysp?

Ember flies out towards the wysp, keeping carefully away from the protean. "Ahem. Umm... Yoo-hoo! Yeah, you. Hi, I'm Ember. I like long moonlight flights on the beach and not getting murdered. So... that guy right there has 'murder' written all over him. Well, not literally, he doesn't. Hmmm... maybe he does. Kids these days and their tattoos, am I right?"

"Anyway, I was hoping you could see your way clear to helping the good guys...that's us... stop whatever evil, parade-raining plans your buddy there has. What do you say?"

Perform (oratory): 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (2) + 17 = 19 Yeah, seems about right.

Ember flies over, and tries to convince the corrupted air wysp to get a hold of itself...

...it flickers for a moment, but remains unmoved.

Octaris fires another blast of water, which knocks the wind from the Protean's sails.

The Fire Wysp suddenly turns in upon itself, dwindling down to the faintest coal, before winking out. In the process, Rhyol feels healing warmth envelop her.

Basically, it committed suicide to heal her 12hp.

Likewise, the Corrupted Earth Wysp gradually reduces itself to a fine powder, which floats over to the protean, and heals it, as well.

Zephyr starts casting a spell, intending to flambe the Protean with fiery lightning.

Rhyol, her mind overwhelmed with a kaleidoscope of colours, babbles incoherently.

Another wave of chaotic energy sweeps across the demiplane, but fortunately, this time, has no lingering effect on any party member.

The Protean then attempts to finish Rhyol off...

...its roar of satisfaction when she goes down being tinged with a significant degree of pain, as a result of the serious burns that it suffers.

Umm...can anyone heal Rhyol?

Zephyr will wit for Rhyol to make a stabilize check, if he fails, Zephyr moves forward and casts stabilize on Rhyol. I believe i have a 40 range.

Lightning rains down on the creature...only it burns like fire.
Lightning Strike: 3d6 ⇒ (2, 5, 2) = 9

If Zephyr does not have to stabilize, he calls another lightning bolt.

2nd lightning strike if no Stabilize spell: 3d6 ⇒ (2, 3, 2) = 7

The only healing in the party is Wands of CLW. Also, as far as I can tell, Rhyol doesn't having Raging Vitality, so once she dropped unconscious, she dropped out of rage... which would have killed her.

She meat-shielded quite well, though - her molten skin really did a number on the Protean!

I'd suggest just blasting the thing as quickly as possible, to stop it being able to maul anyone else :-/

Ember has another chat with the Air Wysp, and this time, her words manage to sway it, for it stops pulsing chaotically, and starts flitting around merrily.

Octaris, rather startled by the idea that the Protean has now shifted its focus onto him, frantically blasts it again, but his aim is off, and the creature manages to dodge.

Zephyr directs two flaming blasts of 'lightning' at the Protean...

Reflex: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (11) + 13 = 24.
Reflex: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (17) + 13 = 30.

...which, although it manages to dodge the worst of the blasts, is still slightly singed.

Rhyol remains lifeless.

The Protean then charges Octaris...

In retrospect, I wish I had gotten Inspire Courage up immediately before chatting up a wysp for two rounds.

Unfortunately, since Rhyol is a regular Barbarian not Unchained....

The Water Wysp then sublimates into a cloud of steam, which wafts over Octaris, healing him slightly.

To the tune of 14 points of healing.

Zephyr then gamely calls down another bolt of fiery lightning...

Reflex: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (1) + 13 = 14.

...which slams into the Protean's body!

Another wave of chaotic energy then washes over the demiplane, but mercifully, has no effect on either Octaris or Zephyr.

The Protean then rips into Octaris...

Bite: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (8) + 17 = 25, for 1d8 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8 damage.
Tail Slap: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (20) + 14 = 34, for 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9 damage.
Grab: 1d20 + 22 ⇒ (4) + 22 = 26.
Constrict: 1d6 + 9 ⇒ (4) + 9 = 13 damage.
Tentacle: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (17) + 14 = 31, for 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4 damage.

...almost tearing the poor mephit limb from limb!

Fortunately, it seems to have had enough of the battering that it has been taking, for it then releases Octaris, tears open a hole in the fabric of the demiplane, and steps through into the Maelstrom, the tear sealing shut behind it.

Combat over!

Post-combat status: Ember(Petrified), Octaris(-57), Air Wysp(-), Zephyr(-), Rhyol(Dead)

The roiling incursion of color slows and contracts upon itself, forming a vibrating sphere. Although the disruption beyond its otherworldly borders has abated, the tenacious rift remains.

Octaris instinctively realises that the only way to restore balance to the Plane of Air is to close the portal.

Fortunately, in its weakened state, it does not require powerful magics to do so...

Closing the portal requires the party to succeed at four DC 24 skill checks. Any combination of Knowledge(planes), Knowledge (arcana), Spellcraft, and Use Magic Device will work.

However, if you *fail* a check, the party will be exposed to another Warpwave; and if a certain number of checks are failed, the Rift will expand, and it will no longer be possible to close it.

Consequently, you cannot 'Take 10' on these checks.

Looking a little confused and fairly terrified, Octaris tries to close it.

Well done!

Perfectly encapsulating the old idiom of 'fake it 'til you make it', Octaris, in a breathtaking display of magical talent (and pure luck), manages to close the Rift!

As it does, pieces of chaotic coalesce into discreet objects, which the party is able to collect (several globules of pure chaos that function as Liquid Chaos, and a piece of crystalline air that functions as a Storm Lure.

Following this, the air currents are restored, and it is child's play to signal airship captain to come and collect you (along with the bodies of Rhyol and the Ember statuette).

Back in Armun Kelisk, you are met by a smiling Ashasar.

"I knew I could count on your team to handle this dangerous task.
Congratulations on a job well done. How did your mission go?"

Seeing the bodies of Ember and Rhyol, he frowns.

"Well, we knew the task was dangerous, but fortunately, we have a long reach..."

So saying, he arranges for spellcasting to return Ember to flesh, and gets a Marid to cast Wish to restore Rhyol to life.

As per the module, everyone is retored by Deus ex Machina.
