Gotcha! :)

Year of the Skykey

Just a heads up. I'll be quite late with my update today. Feel free to finish off the walnut check and I'll move y'all on by the end of the day. ;)

Well, other than Yaiho finishing off enemies in grisly ways.

Hehe, two were really close though, and you still succeeded at a pretty difficult roll. :)

Speaking of which... We were due to do the module next, but I'm not sure I'll be able to do that properly within the time frame. As such, I'm going to move up The Segang Expedition to be our next scenario, if nobody minds. Also, it'll be the our last game before we take a bit of a break while I'm settling into my new home and the new workload. I'm going to see if I can start prep now so that we can jump straight into it without my traditional week hiatus between scenarios... fun fact: we have moved up a tier! :)

I lived in Japan for a few years back in the early '80s and one thing I learned back then when a Japanese person says, 'No speak English.' they are pretty much lying. They are taught English in every school grade. They might not be good in English, but they will know enough to get by.

Now when I lived in England, there was some times the accent was so thick, I couldn't understand a word they were saying. :P

I've never really had a problem with understanding accents. We're pretty multi-cultural where I live, so you can hear any number of different languages, and different accents of English, just walking down the street. Admittedly, not much British/UK accents, though, so what do I know. Haha.

A friend of mine left right after University for Japan to teach English for a year, which turned into two years, then three years, and next thing you know it's been eight. Haha. He loved it so much he's clearly not coming back.

Meanwhile, contemplating moving my family and kids over a few blocks to a new apartment sounds like way too much work, never mind changing schools! Moving to a new country? SO not interested. Haha.

Have fun, guys!

I found that to be the case in France as well. Apparently my broken Italian annoyed them so much they just figured out how to speak English on the fly!

When I did some work in real, real rural Tennessee I occasionally needed a translator with some of the accents those guys had.

Our longest move was from the upper midwest to far western Alaska (no we couldn't see Russia from our house, but we were only about 40 miles from the Bering Sea as the crow flies.

Our biggest issue was that most of our stuff had to be shipped barge, and arrived 3 months after we did as flying it in was to expensive and there were no roads leading to our town (Bethel).

A quick note on readied actions...

I forgot to mention, I'm not entirely sure that you can ready an action outside of combat. At least, that is what I have always been told and I kind of agree. If you could, then everyone would be able to ready an action and rolling initiative would become pointless.

If anyone feels differently, I'm open for feedback. :)

Oh the language will be a large challenge but I decided to dual-major with one in foreign language to expedite my path to fluency...that and to receive another stipend from the governmet. I am conversational already thanks to my grandmother. (I am a 1/4 Japanese). I too hope that Japan becomes my home.

I spent three years in central Alaska. Near Fairbanks at Eielson AFB. That was...an experience. The summers were beautiful but the winters were a pain.

Thanks for another great game folks! This is probably the first one I have seen where the entire scenario can be completed without a single combat. And what's more surprising is, apart from that creepy blood letting plant, you actually did deal with them all peacefully... What would level 1 Brock think? :)

Did helping Cassiel pass on count as:
"Defeat an outsider that has the evil subtype or an undead creature whose CR is at least equal to your character level."

If not I'll attempt the following, by organizing a charity event to raise funds for the education of the poor children of the Puddles.
"Forgo your Downtime and succeed at a Diplomacy, Knowledge (local), or Perform (oratory) check with a DC equal 15 + your character level to organize a charity event. Alternatively, donate resources worth 100 gp per character level to charity."

I will not be level 3. I really need to get on some GM credit. I think after a couple of my current games end I will do this instead of starting new ones (I’m in way too many games)

I’m going to copy off Yaiho and try for the same faction goal....

Forgo your Downtime to nonviolently fight for the cause of liberty by spending time organizing protests, freeing slaves, or distributing revolutionary material. Doing so requires a successful Disable Device, Knowledge (local), or Stealth check with a DC equal to 15 + your character level.

Arin follows Yaiho out into town to put up flyers but quickly shakes him when he realizes that people are noticing him. He finds boards that face street traffic and posts them as caravans pass in front of them, limiting visibility to his activities. It also helps that he’s smaller than Yaiho. He does this long into the night, while pondering recent clues about his hidden divine patron, and gets through two hefty stacks of flyers about Liberty’s Edge’s efforts to intercept slave trade, give refugees safe houses to come to, and so on.

SUCCESS

I'm not sure Yaiho will be able do that Downtime Faction goal starting at 3rd level unless I put some skill points in Stealth. Starting at 3rd level the DC will be 18 but Yaiho has a -3 Stealth. Not sure if a Natural 20 would mean success there.

@Arin: You're still on par with Rook, but if you really want to catch up with the others, there should be plenty of time after this next scenario.

@Rook: In the next scenario, much bomb throwing will be had, I promise! ;)

@Forrest: Thanks! And a level 3 swashbuckler is a beautiful thing, boosts to AC, Initiative, and Damage. :)

@Yaiho: That was you without power attack!? My word, things are going to get soo crushed. :)

@Danicka: Since you didn't actually fight Cassiel, I'm inclined to say that it wouldn't count as defeating her. However, if open to have my mind changed if successfully resolving encounters counts as defeat for faction cards. ;)

@ Shieldbug: Prickles has some new abilities you'll probably want to know ahead of time.

-Prickles has four AoO's a turn and can may make AoOs while flat-footed.
-Prickles can always act in the surprise round (though he remains flat-footed until he acts).
-As long as Prickles is adjacent to Danicka he doesn't fall unconscious below 0 hp
-When an adjacent ally is attacked he may use an AoO to attempt the aid another action to improve his ally's AC. (He's a big meanie, though, so he'll probably only use it to help Danicka.

Full details are under his profile.

Hmm, now I gotta figure out what feat to grab at 3. Deadly Aim had been my initial, but with 3 misfired in a row I question the point of using another ranged feat.

I do get Dazzling Display, so watch out bad guys within 30 feet, Brock is gonna dazzle.

Also, I don't think I've used my challenge since I turned level 2. Yaiho is too powerful vs the big baddie of each scenario... not that I'm complaining.

Year of the Skykey

I can't give any advice since I'm terrible with feat selection and once I have power attack, I have no idea what to do. :)

Looking ahead, I'm thinking of dropping the module entirely. After reading through it, I'm not sure I could jump into such an open ended adventure when I get back to it. Plus, I'm pretty sure it'll be way too easy for you anyway since it was designed for 4 Core PCs. If we do drop the module, how do the following scenarios sound to you guys?

#06-22: Out of Anarchy A rogue season 6 scenario that made it through the cracks.
#08-07: From the Tome of Righteous Repose Evergreen for levels 3-7.
#09-09: Beyond the Halflight Path Evergreen for levels 3-7.

Of course you can roll it for me!

And those look good to me. I haven't played any of them.

GM Screen:
I've GM'd and played the orc version of Tome. But have no issues with replaying that arc. I've GM'd the Kobold version of Halflight. Also wouldn't mind playing that. (Kobolds are awesome!) Just an FYI.

Also, when you pick the enemies, feel free to pick from the bottom of the charts. Those are normally harder than the top end. Your call either way, but this group can handle them! Ha!

Danicka will be so sad when we go through those dungeon crawls.
