GM ShieldBug |

Hello and welcome to the game! Please make yourselves at home. Unless something changes I'm looking to start the game at the beginning of January for character (re)introductions, and we'll start properly soon after that. In the meantime, feel free to dot and delete in the gameplay thread, and discuss whatever you want here. If there are any questions, ask away!
Thanks and I'm looking forward to our time together! :)

So excited! Also excited to meet our new member!

![]() |

Oh me too! I will get some use out of Abyssal as a language to boot.

![]() |

Oh me too! I will get some use out of Abyssal as a language to boot.
Yup, your character will be the only one he can communicate with in battle, for the time being.
However I mispoke about the out-of-battle part, I actually do get it as a bonus language as well.
Anyhow, thanks for the welcome and very much looking forward to coming aboard the team. While I haven't written out a full background yet, I was thinking of playing him as a gnome whose parents expected him to train as a talented wizard or sorcerer before the curse struck and derailed their plans. So, he stuck to the books and is now harbors resent that so much of his time was wasted.

![]() |

Also, one thing I didn't get done before my submission is picking a couple of traits. I'll do that in the next week.

![]() |

"Yaiho welcomes little gnome."

![]() |

”Thank you! I suspect I’ll be standing behind you quite a bit in battle.”

GM ShieldBug |

Don't stand too close, it tends to get messy. :)
Welcome aboard Arin, and welcome back everyone else!

![]() |

I tend to write too much into my backgrounds for PFS. I have always enjoyed writing so I tend to flesh them out so much that it seems heavy handed for a level 1 character new to the society/adventuring.
Oracles are always interesting to write for because the curses (origins/purpose) provide so many possibilities.

![]() |

Agreed! This submission was a bit sudden so I have to go back and do some writing. I’m excited to try my first Oracle. The notes above are just a possible seed.

![]() |

Hey guys! I'm super excited to be back! Danicka's one of my favourite characters to play, and we have a really fun group, so I'm pleased you've invited us along for the ride, Shieldbug!
Welcome to the team, Arin!
I LOVE the background part of making characters. I try to keep it shorter for PFS, but it's the background and history of a character that makes them come alive. I like knowing what they've experienced and where they're coming from.
I can't wait to get this started in the new year.
@ GM - Advanced warning: Come the new year I'll have to start looking for a second job. Although, I'll still be available to post once a day, it won't be with as much frequency as I can now. Evenings will be off the table for me most days, with daytime being when I'm available to post. Thanks!

GM ShieldBug |

I agree, backgrounds can be a lot of fun! Although, I usually have a little trouble starting, and my backstories tend to get filled out little by little over my first three scenarios. :)
@Danicka - No worries! I only ask for one post a day anyway. I mean, I may get carried away on occasion with little posts, but I won't make any more than one big post a day that pushes the story along. Good luck with the search!

![]() |

We had some days where we were running a pretty impressive pace so going back down to the one isn't a terrible issue in my eyes.
In a similar note if I get the position I applied for I will be in training for 5 months. I can still make my minimum 1 post per day but it would be before/after class. Maybe during breaks if I finally try Wayfinder.
I also want to try my hand at PbP Gm'ing this year as well so that is something that may happen and y'all would have spots if wanted. Any recommendations for Scenarios/Modules are welcome. (I am partial to a campaign mode Dragon's Demand because some days I miss playing without the PFS limitations. Heheh.)

![]() |

Hey, I missed some discussion!
Is it time to start yet? My normally slow games are going SOOOOO SLLOOOOOWWW this time of year. One combat is grinding to a TPK, my Skald wen't down in round one (of four) over a month ago. He's just been bleeding on the floor for so long.
I'm excited to try this new archtype for Brock, but I've recently started rewatching Samurai Champloo again, and the original Brock had more than a little Mugen in his attitude so we'll see where it goes, leaning on probably going back to the Daring Champion when I hit level 2 after this adventure.
But maybe I'll get some epic charges in and change my mind (also reading the Traitor Son Cycle, so knightlyness is fun too).
Also, welcome Arin! This is a pretty darned fun group so far, some ... morally questionable folk contrasting with Danicka's goody goodyness, but we seem to work quite well when the chips are down!

![]() |

@ Mhazruk - I'd be up for that. I'm already playing in a Dragon's Demand pbp, though, so I'd prefer another adventure.
@ Brock - Hahaha. No, it's not starting until the new year. Also: Samurai Champloo is AWESOME.

![]() |

Given that you're through two scenarios already, any problem with the fact that I'll level up a bit later?

GM ShieldBug |

@Brock - Hehe, yeah you're just going to have to hold on for a couple more weeks. ;)
@Arin - I don't anticipate any problems. As far as I can tell, it will make absolutely no difference to the tiers we'll be playing at, and scenarios are built for a wide range of levels anyway, so you should be just fine! The only difference will be that by the time you retire Arin, he may have slightly more gold than the rest of the party. ;)

![]() |

Sounds good. Thanks!

![]() |

@Mhazruk- (Can I call ya Mhaz?) There is a PbP convention coming up in the spring. That is a great time to start GMing. (GM boons!) Also, I've been wanting to get into a Campaign mode adventure path for some time now. (PFS credit, no limitations, and no F2F scheduling. It sounds perfect!)
@Brock- One round per week??? That's a ridiculously slow pace. Goodness gracious. That would drive me crazy! 1 a day minimum!

![]() |

@Forrest - Yeah, it started off great then really took a dive. I think a mixture of the GM getting a new job and posting mlre infrequently and some of the characters (I suspect) losing interest due to pace and TPK.
It might not seem so slow if my Skald didn't go down first thing round 1, but yeah 1 post a day in combat is really important.
Before silverhex and all of your excellent posting I was getting a bit discouraged as my other forray into PFS was the solstice scar and my group couldn't keep up, had encounters cut short and several missed all together.
Luckily I found a solid group to reup my spirits!

![]() |

I'm running Dragond Demand now and its pretty fun. My group was all new to PBP and we have managed some pretty good roleplay so far.
Only on the third major part so far (level 3)
Also running in reign of Winter (for PFS credit) and it is not as fun, we again are maybe 1/2 through the first chronicle and the encounters are kinda more boring, but it could easily be my group (not nearly ad much RP in the group)

![]() |

Ruk (Rook) usually but Mhaz works too. I have heard great things about Dragon's Demand which is why I thought of that one but I am definitely open for others. Anything with group members like this should be interesting.
I was thinking about signing up to GM for OutPost and now probably will.
---
Going down early in PbP can be a real drag especially if the pace is already slow. Only had it happen once myself but had two recent ones that got semi-abandoned which was rough. These types of groups help refresh after those.

GM ShieldBug |

Sounds like you've been quite unlucky so far, Ruk. PbP games can be pretty variable sometimes, but when those awesome ones come around, they just get you hooked. :)
If that offer of a spot is still going, I'd love to be part of your first foray into PbP GMing. I haven't got a whole lot of personal experience, but I am told that Murders Mark is a fun module for beginners, and Gallows of Madness is pretty good too, I think.

![]() |

Oh for sure! I had some pretty good ones before the abandoned ones so it hasn't been all bad. I got referred to Flaxseed from Reddit when I was looking for a way to play since there was nothing locally. It was a very warm welcome.
And the spots are definitely still open. Putting out feelers at the moment and looking for a module we all are excited about. Looking into those modules as well.

![]() |

I'm going to spend a bit of time reading over the past adventures for this party. AFAICT, the party was very different in the beginning for Mists of Mwangi (I see Danicka and Yaiho there), and then for the Silverhex Chronicles it looks like this current group had (nearly?) fully formed.

![]() |

I only did the Silverhex and had the most fun in PFS to date yet (I am a neophyte to PbP and PFS).
I rejiggered Brock to a different type of Cavalier so this time he will be more knightly and less... malicious.
Maybe, messing with Danicka is a lot of fun!
Thank goodness they didn't end up waking up in the same bed after the last adventure, would have been equally traumatic to both I thinl ;P

![]() |

lol... it would of been funny and probably horrifying for both of you if Brock and Danicka woke up in the same bed as Yaiho. :P

![]() |

Just when I though an awkward morning couldn't get more awkwarder.
Well played sir, well played

![]() |

lol, glad to see this group is “comfortable”

![]() |

@ Yaiho - Hahahahaha! Well played, indeed!
Danicka would have been so embarrassed. Better Brock or Yaiho than a stranger, though. Even if it was both!

![]() |

I read through the prior adventure. I'm going to like this group and hope I can contribute as much flavor as I observed. The characters in this party are played well.

GM ShieldBug |

Glad you enjoyed it Arin! I can't wait to see your character in action. :)
The new year is fast approaching, which means it's time to set a proper start date for our next outing together. Unfortunately, I've been quite ill over the holidays, which has eaten into my prep time a bit. I'm better now though, and if you are all amenable to a 5th of January start, I think I should be ready by then.
I hope y'all had (or are still having) a great time over the holiday season, and that y'all as excited to get this thing started as I am! :)

![]() |

@ Arin - I love gnomes. I'm excited to see yours in action!
@ GM - Sounds good! Danicka's nervously awaiting her departure date.

![]() |

Sorry about your illness! I hope all is better now. Baby #2 is kicking my wife's butt this time around so we've really had a mad holiday season too.
Jan 5 sounds fine for me, though I'd prefer today as I'm heading to my in laws and my mother in law have exactly 2 things in common, my wife and my son.
Having some games to focus on during the awkward silences would be nice ;P
@Arin, it should be great! Fun RP is contagious, and you certainly are bringing great energy! I can't wait.

![]() |

Roleplaying to that extent really does catch on once the group is doing it. Makes it much more enjoyable for me.
The 5th works for me. Just got back into town and took some leave so no work till the 16th for me.

![]() |

I find that I tend to role play in the middle at the beginning of every campaign, then rise or fall to wherever the group is. This group has definitely been the highlight of my PbP experience.
Excited for you to join, Arin!

![]() |

My level of roleplaying has always been contingent on the level of roleplaying by the group.
The 5th works for me too.

![]() |

The 5th works for me too. I started PbP in October, so I don't have *much* of a posting history yet. I've found I do better with flavor when I give myself a bit of time in the evening to post instead of trying to wing it on the bus on my phone.

![]() |

Forrest purchased a Cure Light Wounds wand with PP, and a Cold Iron rapier and a Silver rapier! (No more fairies getting away!)

![]() |

Yaiho wanted to catch that fairy badly. Make good pet for old woman at inn.

![]() |

That fairy was hilarious!

GM ShieldBug |

*Cue Fanfare* I now declare the gameplay thread... OPEN! *Cue rapturous applause*
It's the 5th, so it's time for us to get this thing going! :)
Once everybody has checked into the gameplay thread and has finished introducing themselves, we will get to the briefing. Also, I forgot to put this up earlier, but can you please fill in this spreadsheet with all your character information, making any Day Job rolls here in this thread if necessary. Thank you!
After this, we should only need to update that sheet every now and then with new job rolls and when you level up. :)
I hope you have fun!

Gambler: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19

![]() |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |

*excited dance*
Danicka's back!

![]() |

Rook spends the time before their mission making various volatile chemicals to sale on their adventure. He smiles as the more explosive ones are completed.
"Ah, these always sell well. Pathfinders enjoy explosive entrances." he bellows laughter while boxing them up.
Craft(Alchemy): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (9) + 9 = 18

![]() |

Was thinking about going ahead and use that Elixer of Treasure Seeking Boon, but I think it might be more useful at higher Tier with the ability to boost gold received if max gold is not obtained.

![]() |

Hey guys I am gonna be GMing Mists of Mwangi for OutPost if yall are interested. The excel sheet just went up.

![]() |

Posting here to say I just noticed that we started! I don't have time to do a good post at the moment, will drop mine in the morning. Feel free to do the briefing if you want, GM.
