The Midnight Mirror

Actually it's Arcana, but it doesn't matter since they're all the same for you ... however, its CR is higher than the DC 20 you just made, so no information.

Rhuul tells another joke, and once again everyone is confused at how much better it makes them feel. He studies the giant wheeled machine, and curses that he didn't pay close enough attention when such things were being discussed in the past.

Narika aims at the back wall, and a blast of cold air and show bursts back, catching the juggernaut but just missing Fek and Narayan.
Reflex Save: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13
The driver appears to be intent on the creatures in front of it, as it takes the full force of the blast. Despite the snow, it moves across Fek and Narayan, then turns to run over Tiny, Rhuul, Jing Kwan, and Narika.

Trample! Everyone except Sihir has to choose:
1) Reflex save to possibly take half damage, or
2) Attack of Opportunity with -4 penalty
I need everyone to make their choice and either roll Save or AoO before I reveal the damage from the attack.

The choice between AoO or Save is based on the fact that it has to pass through a threatened square to trample, so you get one or the other. I'm going to make you choose one, then reroll since it isn't really fair to anyone else to let you roll both then pick one.

I'll try to avoid then. My reasoning was that if Rhuul was not being tramped, he would still have got an AOO on the creature as it moved left to attack Fek and Narayan. This is like a wizard in melee casting a ranged spell giving out two different AOOs, one for casting in melee, and one for using a ranged attack in melee.

The Midnight Mirror

OK guys, I am going to do a little retcon. After working out the results of the trample and getting a TPK (only Sihir survived due to not being in the trample) I went to the forums to see how other GMs handled this fight.

Turns out most teams are a little better prepared, owing to the fact that they saw the pictures at the temple, and Old Man Mountain actually used the word "juggernaut" to describe the thing. Most GMs allowed Knowledge checks at that point, letting the party prepare a little better. I'm calling that GM fault and restarting this encounter.

Jing Kwan's rolls of 32 above gives you some good information:
* A Juggernaut is a 15HD gargantuan construct whose defenses are DR overcome by adamantine, fast healing, general construct traits, and a good (20+) spell resistance.
* A Juggernaut's primary attack is a brutal trample. Owing to its size and weight, it can kill most people in a single attack.
* When a Juggernaut kills a creature, part of that creature's soul is drawn into the Juggernaut. This does not prevent raising the dead, but it does make the Juggernaut even tougher.

Armed with that information, please reposition yourselves prior to removing the pick. If you want to change how you remove the pick, you may do so. If Fek wants not to use his scroll of Invisibility, feel free to take it back. Do any other buffs or preparations you feel appropriate. Once you are ready, we will restart. Your saves against the first round lava bombs will hold, but we will reroll initiative. I will also point out that Fossilblight is an adamantine weapon.

"Hmm" says Rhuul, a vision of the future passing in front of his eyes.

"All we really need is the pick. If the Juggernaut is so large, then it may not be able to cross that bridge. Thus flight with Fossilblight might be an option. "

When Jing Kwan starts describing the juggernaut, Fek simply vanishes. One second he is there, the next second whimpering can be heard from somewhere out of sight.

First and foremost, I appologize in advance for any meta-gaming. It is not my intent to do so, I am suggesting the following based on Jing Kwan's experience and the information he/we gathered as mentioned above.

"I have a plan. During our adventures, Tiny and me found the +1 adamantite greatsword that he carries to be very useful fighting robots. We also found the spell "Glitterdust", which I can cast, to be also of use. Furthermore, I have the ability to transport Tiny to me from a fair distance.

My idea is for all of us, except Tiny, to stand at the enterance to the cavern. When Tiny pulls out the Pick, I will bring him to me, and we will be able to start attacking at range. We cannot simply run away with the pick as we promised Old Man Mountain that we would destroy the creature.

What do you people think?"

Rolling back to just after you solved the puzzle, but if you used a reroll on the save against the lava, that is still used.

Technically it's "save or massive damage", but in the case of several people in this group, it amounts to the same thing.

See above; I used it on my Knowledge (Arcana) roll (and it turned out even worse than the original, certainly no contest whatsoever to what jing kwan got), NOT the Reflex save, so rule as you will.

Do we know anything about this thing's sensory faculties? How much good is mundane Stealth against it? How about improved invisibility (or comparable effects)?

I suspect Tiny is the best person to wield it. If it is a heavy pick, I could use it (dwarven weapon familiarity) but would have to put aside my flag, which massively reduces my to-hit and damage bonuses, both personally and for everyone else. So I'm probably not the best person for wielding it.

Fek is going to be useless here. My ranged attack won't even get through DR without sneak attack--which I would most likely get once. The best I can do is loan some magic items to Tiny--take a look at my character profile and see if anything would be helpful.

I don't think it'll fail the reflex saves, I think that its acrobatics probably isn't great, and that more difficult terrain and spaces it can't trample through are how we get a swing at this thing.

If we grease a lot of the area it would need to go through to get to us, that might really slow it down. Even if it makes most of the saves, it only has to fail one to buy us another round.
