Whether you have played/GMed this scenario before: Been holding off; unfortunately, some of the louder players at my local PFS have been commenting on it due to a TPK during a local Con while playing this scenario. I've been able to filter most of it out. The only part I have not is that having 6 players is vital.
Whether this character has played/GMed #2-02: Rescue at Azlant Ridge: Nope.
Any questions or miscellaneous information: A couple things actually.
-I'd like to retrain my Evocation Focus to Divination, for 5PP and 300gp
-Because of that I'd like to request an audit of my character prior to play. I am able and willing to submit a Hero Labs .por file or a pdf of the character (the pdf version would have the issue of not having chronicle sheets attached, but I could send a summary)
Are either of those things OK?
Illuthion Cinderrain |
There are no specific training rules that I know of. I am retraining based on the "retraining a Class Feature" section. All of the ones listed have a 5 day duration. It would make sense thus that retraining this class feature is also a five day endeavor.
GM Granta |
I have to say no then. There is an explicit list, and that class feature isn't on it. I would absolutely allow it in a homebrew, but PFS doesn't give GMs that discretion.
There might be an official ruling somewhere, but I didn't see one in the FAQs or Additional Resources. The best I can say is, search the messageboards for something by a Paizo employee.

Alright, that's fair. Oh, I realised I chopped out half my PFS number. It's 43451-15.
How about this then: If I can prove to your satisfaction that I have not played this character since he has hit level 6, which is when he would have gotten access to a new implement, could I have selected divination rather than illusion? as an implement class?
Periel the Pure |
A well miscellaneous information:
Proud owner of Uskroths armor and a shihedron medallion.
Links in character sheet.
Also Periel has the
Over the course of the Giantslayer Adventure Path, you can gain additional Power of the Giants boons that grant you additional options when you activate this boon’s enlarge person spell-like ability. You only apply one of these additional benefits each time you use the ability.

Just to toss my two coppers into the bin, myself and many other PFS GMs do not believe that the list of class features available for Retraining in Ultimate Campaign is exhaustive. It was simply an up-to-date listing at the time of printing, and set a framework for Retraining that everyone could understand going forward.
If you were at my table, I would happily sign off on your Retraining. And many others wouldn't blink an eye, either.
It doesn't make sense that only those classes can Retrain features. There's simply no reason to deny Occult classes or the Vigilante something that every other class can take advantage of.
There is no Retraining Synergy. So Retraining levels would be 7pp/level. But that's about the only sensible restriction at this moment.
Of course, this is GM Granta's table, and they have the final word here, but I'd encourage some leniency in this department.

I fully expect Illuthion's next GM to sign the retraining, and would make no attempt to stop him if I was at the table. I think Illuthion should be able to retrain, and it doesn't make sense for him not to be able to do that.
However, I also believe that Society GMs are expected to err on the side of caution rather than freedom. Paizo has gone to great lengths to prevent us from taking things into our own hands. I also believe that the Pathfinder rules are written to say what characters CAN do, not what they CANNOT do. The fact that something isn't explicitly prohibited does not mean that it is permitted.
Where is the line? When is it okay to allow something on my own judgment and when isn't it? There's no clear, right answer to that question, so I ask a different one: what is the consequence of being wrong? If I DON'T allow Illuthion to retrain and I'm wrong, his next GM (hopefully a VO) will correct the mistake. If I DO allow him to retrain and I'm wrong, his character is now unplayable and might take hours of work to fix.
TLDR; To me the issue is not what's right, but which wrong is more costly.
Illuthion Cinderrain |
Illuthion bursts into tears. "But GM... I am the VO."
Sorry, it's a Watchmen reference I couldn't resist making.
Honestly, it's fine; I'm not worried.
I am still on board for the audit though, I'm just finishing a couple things here. I would like to purchase a headband of Int +2 with Spellcraft as the linked skill.
I'll be putting up a link to a Google drive folder for the character sheet, the ITS and the chronicle sheets later today. ITS will reflect the purchase of the Headband.
GM Granta |
Sorry, it's a Watchmen reference I couldn't resist making . . . .I am still on board for the audit though
Dammit, I loved The Wathcmen, and I don't get the reference :-(
What exactly am I auditing? I'm not asking to look at anything, and am not sure what you want me to see.
Illuthion Cinderrain |
Initially, I was asking for a character audit so as to make sure you could see there was no funny business going on with the retraining. The retraining isn't happening, but I still think that auditing it for consistency is a good idea. It can be as in depth as you want, I just want to show I've been up to snuff on the character.
So, Here is the link to the character's folder.
I was referring to this scene

Right, but Spectral Hand also says this:
Most spells that are a move action to redirect say that they are (Flaming Sphere for example), and it's a problem with spectral hand. But is the touch a move action? Do you have to direct it to a place as a move action and then also use a move action to touch (as they are both "directing the spell")? Can you use the free action from casting a touch spell through the Spectral Hand?
The spell raises many questions, but I guess in the end it's your call. In the case of it being a move action to redirect, I might redo my action for last turn to something else as Spectral Hand isn't very useful with a Flaming Sphere out.
GM Granta |
Delivering a touch spell is part of the action of casting that spell. Returning to you after delivering that touch is a free action. Redirecting in a way other than that is a move action. And keep in mind, it appears anywhere within range. You haven't redirected it yet.
It is entirely possible that Paizo intended it to require a move action to deliver a touch, but I don't like that interpretation.
Tsishad~ |
Alright, I will keep my action with that interpretation. It will stay next to me for the most part until I use it, then it'll just come back as you say.

Re: the spalsh
Probably a little late to mention that it isn't a big deal. But hey! Now we all sorta get along!
GM Granta |
@Illuthion: Yes, you have the light disc in hand. The scenario doesn't say how much effort it takes to hold one, although I imagine it would be difficult to palm a heavy, round object in one hand.
So let's say that a disc can be carried in two hands without difficulty, but it requires a DC 13 Strength check to hold with just one hand, made at the start of your turn. Failure means you drop it.
Tsishad~ |
Just wanted to let everyone know, I am heading on my journey back from Japan to the United States, so I will be in a state of travel/hotels for about the next 40-ish hours and probably super jetlagged after that. I will post when I can but just want people to be aware.
Tsishad~ |
Just wanted to let everyone know my entire "My Campaigns" page disappeared. From the Flaxseed lodge, it sounds like many others are having the same problems. Will be harder to check but will still do it.
GM Granta |
With nobody getting notifications, it's likely that at least one player--if not more--isn't aware of new posts. And the problem will just get bigger if the rest of us keep going.
So . . . I'm putting all of my games on hold until either:
