Game Master Zoomba

Map and handouts

Recent events have left the Master of Spells Aram Zey unable to fulfill his duties, and without his expertise, the Pathfinder Society struggles to resolve pressing arcane matters. The Decemvirate has reopened the decade-old case of the most qualified replacement: Aram Zey's predecessor and former Master of Spells Sorrina Westyr, who disappeared while handling a powerful wayfinder that the Society has since kept closely guarded. It is up to the PCs to track down Sorrina Westyr — and bring back whatever remains.

Unlike his other small friend, Forlorn's magic seems to have an effect on the pech in the party's face. He looks confusedly at you, head turning to really look at Jötunn's dropped blade and the oddly signing goblin.

Terrna/Undercommon/you know the drill:
"You are not attacking? But you are invading the archive? Why? What do you want?"

He seems charmed for now. Of course, Forlorn, you don't speak any of his languages. How's your pantomime skills?

As the red pech pauses, Irizati heals the other fallen fey, bringing him back to consicousness. Seeing a raptor looming above him, he cowers. Meanwhile Simon's second sphere aslo fails to so much as tickle its target as his companion slithers up towards it.

Bluff is generally used for conveying secret messages and pantomiming. Linguistics might also be useful, but only for figuring out what language is being spoken, not to understand it.

Forlorn points to various weapons around the battlefield, as well as the fighting snake and pech. He then shakes his head vigorously at the charmed one, trying to indicate nonviolence. Hoping he has had some effect, he points his rod at the pech still fighting and pulls a strange face at it.

Casting Hideous Laughter at the green pech, using my Lesser Versatile Metamagic Rod from the scenario Serpent's Rise to increase the range to medium. For that I'll need a DC 13 Will save, I've already included the +4 it gets for being a different creature type.

Is Nagani letting go of the pech, then biting and grabbing it again? If she is just maintianing the grapple and then attacking each turn, you don't need the bite attack roll, just the damage (assuming it maintains). Either way:

Nagani continues to bite and squeeze the squirming pech guard. It seems further injured, but continues to struggle.

Irizati sprints over to the door by Jötunn. Before the pair lie another double-set of doors, these made of a light red-tinted glass surrounded by a silver frame. Move Action
Simon moves over to Nagani, taking out the Wand of Stoneskin on the way.

Standard Action
Simon gives Nagani a Cure Moderate Wounds from his Imbue with Spell-Like Ability spell.
Cure Moderate Wounds (On Nagani): 2d8 + 10 ⇒ (5, 8) + 10 = 23

Scarab Sages

'The Grandidierite Sage' Male Half-Elf Sorceror 9 (HP 74/74) (AC 16/10/16) (CMD 12) (Fort +8, Ref +5, Will +8) (Init +6) (Perception +22)

Numair moves up behind Irizati, confident that the snake has the pech well in hand.

As Numair joins the group near the door Jotunn leaves his post momentarily to run back towards [blue], grab his sword, and return before pushing open the door.

Barely able to see the Pech beneath the snake's coils, Jotunn grimaces. "What a powerful beast."

Scarab Sages

'The Grandidierite Sage' Male Half-Elf Sorceror 9 (HP 74/74) (AC 16/10/16) (CMD 12) (Fort +8, Ref +5, Will +8) (Init +6) (Perception +22)

"Hold a moment - we should allow the group to gather together, in case there are more hostiles behind that door."

Blooming Catastrophe Return to Grave

The injured pech strikes back twice more with a new set of earthen blades...

Attack: 1d20 + 15 - 4 - 2 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 15 - 4 - 2 + 1 = 27 for damage: 3d6 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (2, 3, 2) + 6 + 1 = 14
Attack 2: 1d20 + 10 - 4 - 2 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 10 - 4 - 2 + 1 = 14 for damage: 3d6 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (4, 2, 5) + 6 + 1 = 18

Before Nagani Don't roll a 1: 1d20 ⇒ 8 continues to squeeze and the pech passes out.

COMBAT OVER!!!
Simon (60 SS left)
Irizati & Nagani (33/51 hp, 30 SS left)

As most of the party gathers by the far door, the one still conscious pech continues to cower but calls out to you.

Undercommon/Terran:
No! Don't go in there! Even we can't go in except to deposit the important events!

The pech places both hands firmly against the crystal ground and starts chanting something against the ground. It yells out in sad anger one more time.

Undercommon/Terran:
You've doomed it you know! I can't repair the damage myself; now the other invader will destroy history!

The Exchange

Baloo:
Animal Tiger 9 | AC 28 (35)| T 14 (17)| FF 23 (28)| HP: 31/68 | CMD 29 | Fort +9 | Ref +10 | Will +6* | Perception +6 scent|

Simon healed Nagani. And Nagani is at 20/70 for Stoneskin. Once the Perch passes out Nagani continues to follow the last command and moves towards Irizati and dumps the body next to him.

"The Guardian says that there is another 'invader' beyond these doors. I hope it is one of the missing Pathfinders, but if not, we should prepare..."

Jötunn casts Divine Favor and waits for the group to gather.

I did miss Simon's CMW. Nagani will still have a minor scratch from that last strike, but will be at 47/51.

"That was fun..." Simon uncharacteristically jumps up and down in glee at the turn of events. He stops jumping and looks at Jötunn, his facial expression instantly changing to one of concern. "Oh uh... Maybe we can be more considerate next time?"

Simon assesses Nagani. "Almost used up all that stone on your skin there. Perhaps another will help." He uses the Wand of Stoneskin on Nagani again. 5 charges remaining.

Jötunn raises an eyebrow.

"I have nothing but respect for the Guardians. I hope that our greater goal becomes apparent to them."

Simon nods in agreement. "Yes, they were just doing what they know."

Simon tries to hold back a laugh a little, hoping none of it slipped during his statement.

Bluff: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (14) + 12 = 26

They were just some dumb guardians... so uptight! And it's not like we killed most of them or hit them while they were down.

My gnomes always seem to get more "gnomish" the further along the scenario goes... ;)

Even taking 20 Jötunn could never beat that Bluff. Low wisdom Paladin FTW =)

"Indeed. May the Inheritor bless them. And our cause."

It is comforting to travel in the presence of like-minded sincerity. Gnomes never cease to amaze me.
