Ibid halts upon hearing Adriana warning. Looking ahead for the source of the group's hesitation, the elf unslings the longbow from his shoulder and knocks an arrow.

Cyrus the Flea

Cyrus skids to a halt upon seeing Ibid halt, creating an odd accordion traffic jam in the narrow corridor. He leaps up 3 or 4 times to see over the shoulders of his taller companions. Short kid always gets stuck in the back of the class...

Cyrus realizes he isn't going to see anything himself, and pulls an alchemist's flask out of his pack, as well as drawing his sickle, just in case...
Menarul

Heading back from what was obviously the wrong tunnel, Menarul notices the group's tension and quickly draws his bow. He then waits for someone to move or explain what is going on.

"Can't we just burn it from a distance or something ... maybe plink it with arrows? Does it even move?"
GM Aerondor

They do move, but range of sences may be limited. Still, if you fire arrows from one direction, it is a good bet it would go in that direction. Also the low ceiling limits somewhat your options for long range combat
The sound of battle above start to grow more desperate.

"I have never faced one of these before," says the elf drawing his bow and knocking an arrow. "I don't know wether we should run, or stay and fight. Our weapons can hurt it, and will be effective, but this positioning may not be the best to attack. Lead it away? Attack from a distance and continue to fall back?"
Cyrus the Flea
|
All I know is somehow we need to find a way to help whoever is out there, that sounds rough...
Cyrus moves forward, as dashing as he can and winks at Adriana as he deftly moves in front of the group and chucks the alchemist flask he pulled out at the ooze.
Take that!
Attack with Splash Weapon (ranged touch): 1d20 + 4 - 2 ⇒ (1) + 4 - 2 = 3 for Fire damage: 1d6 ⇒ 3
Attack at -2 for range increment
Roll for square the flask lands in: 1d8 ⇒ 1
His smug smile disappears as yet another of his attempts at showing off yields the typical results. The flask, perfectly aimed sails through the air... and lands about 5 feet short of the target exploding in a tiny little alchemical mushroom cloud, and just barely splashing the ooze.
1 splash fire damage...
Wow Cyrus, that was worse than usual...

"It looks slow -- we could get it to come down this passage and then run around it through the other tunnel. I'll try to antagonize it, and get it to follow. Cyrus, Adriana, you'd better get behind me. If it works, everyone go down the other path."
Nyroba throws a javelin down the tunnel at the cube.

Nice maneouvres. I've not seen this encounter dealt with like this before. You can totally avoid the ooze if you like, and continue up the passageway.

W, W, W, W, W, S, W

The tunnel twists for another hundred feet or so, heading up to the surface. As you go along it, the words of your guide become louder and clearer.
The light of the surface world above provides a welcome reprieve from the blue and green fungus of the caverns below, and light illuminates a stream whose water is hastened by runoff from a recent storm further up the mountains. A ledge to the west rises up to the nearby forest canopy.
The full moon shows a tired and wounded Janira only just staying out of reach of the still mighty minotaur...
The stream is about 10 feet wide and 5 feet deep in this area, and the water moves downstream from east to west at 30 feet per round. Treat this as rough water, which requires a DC 15 Swim check to navigate. A Large creature can walk through the water as though it were difficult terrain with a successful DC 12 Strength check. On a failed Strength check, such a creature is checked and unable to move
farther that turn. A 3-foot-diameter tree truck spans the width of the river, creating an impromptu bridge. The trunk is slippery from the splashing water, and crossing it
at half speed requires a successful DC 7 Acrobatics check, during which time the creature is treated as flatfooted for moving on a narrow surface. If the creature fails this check, it falls into the water unless it succeeds at a DC 13 Reflex
save, in which case it lands prone on the trunk instead.
The slope to the west gradually rises to a height of 20 feet, and creatures standing at its highest point benefit from both a commanding view of the battlefield and a
clear vantage point for ranged attacks.
The minotaur has not yet noticed the group
I have scattered you around the 'clear' area at the cave mouth, before we go into rounds, feel free to move your icons to where ever you like within 30' of the actual cave mouth. That corresponds to roughly the clear patch.
The brave halfling is still singing and taunting the monster, but is obviously tired and hurt.
You all get the benefits of inspire courage this round. (+1 to hit and +1 to damage)

I'm not sure if we can move yet, but I'll do an Initiative roll and post my first round action.
Init: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Good idea, Nyroba thinks, transforming herself as well, but instead of a lizardfolk, taking a form similar to that of the gillman they met in the cave. Alter self as a standard action to Gillman gives +2 str and swim 30ft.
"By the inheritor, this monster will fall!" she makes a quiet, but determined vow. Smite Evil on the Minotaur as a swift action.
Nyroba begins charging down towards the stream, intent on her target. Shown by the red arrow.

Adriana runs as close as she can to the wooden bridge (SW, SW, SW, SW) as a move action, before attempting to use the Raise the Dead Oracle revelation to summon a skeleton on the far side of the bridge (not sure of the range on this revelation). If for some reason this is impossible, she move to the same square and cast Shield of Faith on herself.
Can I assume that Adriana picked up the wands / scrolls that no-one specifically asked for? Just gives me extra things to do =]
Menarul

I have no objections to that. Oh and does the full moon count as bright light?
GM Aerondor
|
The PCs emerge from the caverns into a 40-foot
clearing at the base of the Kortos Mounts. The full moon
above casts provides dim light over the entire area,
bright enough to illuminate even the shaded leaf litter
beneath the trees (if the PCs rested in area A1, it is instead
daylight). These patches of woodland are also filled with
underbrush that behaves as light undergrowth (Core
Rulebook 426), creating difficult terrain and concealment.
The trees are only a few decades old and do not completely
occupy their respective squares. A creature that shares a
space with one or more trees benefits from partial cover

Cyrus, upon exiting the cave sees the battle ahead and the tired halfling trying to fend the beast off. With a smile, he sets his jaw to task ahead.
Don't think this was supposed to be a part of the test... Oh well, if I am going to go out, might as well be like this!
How about that flank now? He quips to Nyroba and the Gutter, and sprints off towards the natural bridge.
Man, I wish I had that potion of vanish still...
Depending on where I started coming out of the cave mouth, I would need a double move to get to the beginning of the log bridge, so I just placed myself there.

Ibid is roused from his dazed state, somehow lost in shock and fear upon seeing and recognizing the ooze. How long have I been mindlessly following the group? he thinks to himself. I owe them for keeping me alive...
The elf looks to the sky and sees the moon above, and feels rejuvenated by the beautiful, natural light shining down upon him. This feeling of calm and tranquility is short lived, however, when the sounds of the minotaur and halfling's peril pull the elf's attention back to the situation at hand.
Initiative Check(if needed)
Initiative: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 3 = 15
The elf instinctively pulls free his longbow and knocks and arrow.

I’m going to assume that effectively you all have a surprise round and then win initiative. Remember for movement, the coloured squares on the map are difficult terrain, so movement costs is higher in them.
Gutter calls out a blessing to everyone and then changes suddenly into a lizardman. [S&1]
Nyroba also changes shape, she rather than a lizard starts to resemble Uori, the gillman from the pond under the mountain. [S]
Menarul takes out a flask and drinks it.[s] He then draws his longbow and snaps off a quick shot – successfully. Menarul is still in the open area at the start, so that is fine
Adriana heads towards the bridge (surprise action, and move on first round) and then calls forth from the ground at the other end of the bridge an old skeleton. It lurches to its feet.
I’m happy with Adriana having any left over scrolls/wands. You can all allocate them pretty much as you see fit.
Cyrus moves closer to the action (in surpise round, given where he is and difficult terrain that move is his surprise and first round actions).
Ibid snaps off a quick shot, but it flies wide.
Janira continues to taunt the monster as she tries desperately to disarm it up with her whip.
